The Lament Years

Rate this book
It’s been 79 years since the disease that nearly killed off the human race attacked the world. Now living on the Island is Talise, a young girl among the survivors of the human race. Talise has her world thrown upside down on the day her adult life is to begin.

In a place where being different and asking too many questions isn’t an option, Talise finds herself in a predicament where she must fight to save her family, friends, and possibly everyone else on the Island.

Talise’s life is constantly on the line as she learns some of the lies she’s been fed since the beginning. But Talise wants to escape; to go outside. A place she didn’t even think existed until her 18th birthday, due to the 80ft wall that keeps them all caged in.

Will her new love help her on this quest, or add to the risk? Everything is at stake for this young girl as she embarks on a dangerous mission she didn’t sign up for, but can’t back out of.

This book was more than amazing! It was definitely unexpected for me. I normally don’t read this genre, nor have I in a long time. But all I can say is that I fell in love with this book. It was so well laid out, with many imagery and descriptions that allowed me to truly be able to visualize the book! I was constantly on the edge of my seat and I could barely even put it down! The description really caught my attention, so I figured I would try it out. At first it gave me like The Giver and Divergent vibes, but soon I realized that this book was very unique and different from anything I’ve read! Before I even finished the book I was hoping for a sequel, and to my luck, there will be not only 1 but 2 books! I will definitely be looking out for them!

The Lament Years makes you think "what if this happened?" It's definitely a possibility and it's an scary thought. The way Nadia wrote this incredible novel opens your eyes to what could be. I couldn't put it down. The pacing, character development and the anger you feel towards the people who run the island is immense. You root for the FMC and I cannot wait to continue the series to find out what happens next! Well done

I don't even know how I'm supposed to properly review this book because WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!

I cried. I screamed. I got angry. I got far too emotionally invested and by the end I genuinely felt like I'd been through it alongside these characters.

The whole concept of the Island absolutely fascinated me. A society built around fear and control, where everything you've ever known has been presented to you as the truth, only for Talise to start pulling at those threads and realising just how much has been hidden from her. I was hooked.

But it was the emotional side of this book that really got me. I wasn't expecting it to impact me anywhere near as much as it did. I cared about these characters, I was terrified for them, I was angry for them, and there were moments where I genuinely had to sit and process what I'd just read.

This wasn't just a "that was a good book" read for me. This was one of those books that actually made me feel something, and those are always the ones that stick with me.

And THAT ENDING?!

I already know books 2 and 3 exist and it is taking everything in me not to completely abandon my TBR and immediately continue the series. The second I'm caught up, I'm going straight back into this world because I NEED to know what happens next.

Absolutely incredible. Five stars without a doubt.
