This set contains all five books in the Good Grief, Idaho Romantic Comedy series: Me and the Cute Catastrophe
Claire Harding
I was pretty happy with my life until the hot shot, all-state baller from my teen years moved back in next door. (I babysat him, yes, but I never changed his diapers. Just wanted to be clear about that.)
Guess who’s now the assistant b-ball coach?
Logic would say me – especially since I coached my entire first year holding the play book upside down (it turned out to be an old football playbook from the ‘80s, so it’s not like it mattered which way I held it) but the accurate answer is Trey Haywood, my all-star neighbor, and I’m honestly not sure which of us is more upset about it.
Trey
Yeah. What she said.
And…when I first saw her again, I thought she was a catastrophe.
New thought post septic control: she’s a cute catastrophe. (And, holy man, can she kiss.)
Me and the Tidy Tornado
Tammy Fry
I thought it would be a good idea to buy a dog…I ended up with an ATV I have no idea how to drive.
I’m not sure how this happened, especially since the man I purchased it from, Justin Gabriel, introduced himself by running his remote-controlled monster pickup into my high heeled shoe.
Justin
She’s tall, tidy and man, when she gets serious about riding her machine, that woman’s a tornado!
This country boy is in love.
I'm not sure the lady feels the same.
Me and the Helpful Hurricane
Leah
It took me a while – most of my life, in fact – to decide that my hometown of Good Grief, Idaho is the best place in the world to live. But, I have and I love it…except for one thing.
My boss.
Doug
What can I say?
She’s a hurricane.
Also, I think we might have broken some kind of workplace harassment rules when, after being tied up and slathered with honey, I kissed her.
But a man can only take so much.
I guess it says something about the kiss when I have to admit, I bought another gallon of honey and borrowed my brother’s handcuffs – all (mostly) in the name of saving Good Grief’s senior living center.
Me and the Sweet Snowstorm
Kimber
I was happy to use my influence to help my grandmother, Agnes, save her assisted care facility. I thought I was going to hate being out in the wilderness for days on end…bugs and bears and no internet or sushi bars.
To my surprise, I kind of…liked it.
To my further surprise, I found myself wanting to linger around our tour guide, Bain. He’s a rugged, outdoorsy type – not the kind of guy I’ve ever found attractive. But he was so good at what he did – just tough and rugged and unafraid of anything. Who doesn’t find confidence and competence in a man attractive?
Bain
Back east, I’ve heard they call those late spring snows “sugar snows” because of the maple syrup and such. For me, here in Idaho, I just call it what it is: perfect timing for me and my sweet snowstorm.
Me and the Dreamy Doomsday
Kori
People are so serious about life. I feel it was made to be enjoyed. I’m not interested in having a great career or climbing a corporate ladder or being inside much at all, actually.
Hoover
I thought I was leading a tour to show the ladies Idaho’s scenic places and wildlife.
I was misinformed, although Kori equals wild life. Way too wild for me. I mean, show the woman a mud puddle and she wants to skinny dip in it.
Me and the Cute Catastrophe: A book unlike any of Gussman's previous, but I loved it! Plenty of action, fast moving, and filled with laughter. A fun and light read. Audio: This is audio was over way too quickly! I just sailed through it. A sweet and heart melting audio. I love the emotion put into this romcom.
Me and the Tidy Tornado: I really liked this sweet romcom. I liked the ice queen mixed with the atv angle. It was a fun and light read. This audio was just what I needed after a long week. The humor came across perfectly and it was so relaxing and fun to listen to. Ahh.
Me and the Helpful Hurricane: An enjoyable and adventurous rom com. Man, I can’t wait until this is in audio! So much fun with the seniors at this center and the contention to romance with the boss and employee. Audio: I loved this audio. It was the perfect thing to listen to at the end of a long week. The humor, the amazing elderly characters... another wonderful audio.
Me and the Sweet Snowstorm: I liked this opposites attract, wilderness man and city girl. The scene with Jay? Oh man. I can’t even! I’m not sure whether to laugh or stare speechlessly! I really liked their connection and adventures. I was definitely super tense and on the edge of my seat at times! I think this was my favorite of the series. Audio: I’ve been waiting for this audio ever since I read the book. A reception scene with so many characters - including our narrator. I was surprised that his natural voice isn’t one I’ve heard in these audios. Impressive.
Me and the Dreamy Doomsday: I really do like seeing real people brought into these stories. And Hoover’s unexpectedly tender heart and how he can really dig deeply into things. And these ladies and their antics. Always a bright spot. Makes me want to visit these places. I really like the lessons on choices and doing hard things. Another lovely audio. You’d think only a month after reading the book it wouldn’t be engaging to listen to..but you’d be so wrong! Thanks Dyess for another amazing listen!
This box set contains three cute, fun, clean, romantic comedies from one of my favorite authors. Romantic comedy is not my preferred genre, but this series works.
Me and the Cute Catastrophe drew me in at the beginning and did not let go. Claire has interesting ideas about how to coach basketball! Trey would like to help the girls actually win a game. It is fun to be a spectator as these two battle about basketball and fight their mutual attraction. There are several laugh out loud moments. I really enjoyed the book!
Me and the Tidy Tornado is even better than the first book in the series. Despite being a romantic comedy this book deals with the real self esteem issues left after divorce. Tammy and Justin are flawed, likeable, relatable and perfect for each other. The story is clean, funny and romantic. This book grabbed me in the first chapter and never let go.
I love the spunk of the seniors at Cherry Tree Senior Center. In Me and the Helpful Hurricane, Agnes' bucket list is causing a lot of turmoil. There are so many laugh out loud moments as Leah and Doug help Agnes and other seniors enjoy some of those bucket list activities. This story sparkles with hijinks and banter.
I am really enjoying this series of romantic comedies. The characters and plots are the best.
I loved the first books. The author told the personal challenges of the characters in a humorous way. However, as the series went on, the most common sentences were: “I knew he/she is way out of my league. I’m not good enough for him/her. He/she is so wrong for me, I should not be attracted to him/her.” (I’m paraphrasing.) It was repeated so many times that honestly, it got old. I still enjoy the author’s writing and the way she uses humor, especially towards herself. Actually, it’s the first time I read books from her where I was not impatient to start the next one. Still, I look forward to the next book sets and hope you will give this one a chance.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
OHMYGOODNESS! I cannot remember the last time I laughed as hard as I did as I read this book. Jessie Gussman is a beautiful and masterful wordsmith!
I don't do spoilers but I would absolutely recommend this TOTALLY CLEAN and side stitching light hearted, heartwarming and all around awesome small town series!! The writing is spectacular, the characters are people I want to sit around a campfire and the storylines for those finding love at a later time in life as they heal from hurts that they got when life happened.
Imbedded in these books are so many life lessons that I needed to be reminded of and so many I try to follow and fail so many times but like these characters I keep trying. The humor…what can I say🤣. I love the inclusion of Jay and Jessie herself. Thank you again for good clean reading with a message of Christ intertwined.
Welcome to good grief Idaho. Do you love small towns? Do you love romance? Are you a fan of characters who make you feel as if you know them? If you answered, yes, to these questions pick up this box set, you will not be disappointed. It was a wonderful read.
The old ladies, Miss Agnes, Gertrude, and Harriet bring many many smiles as you read about all their fun times - schemes together. The romance between Kori and Hoover just keeps you hoping for a happy ending. The ending is sad losing Miss Agnes but happy ending for Kori and Hoover. So enjoyed!!
These books are so fun to listen to. I have laughed during everyone of the books. I am surprised with every new book I listen to of Jessie Gussman with Jay Dyess' narration.
I recommend listening to this book. I was provided a copy.
I was born and raised in Idaho, so of course I had to try this series of books. I really liked them too. I think these are the first books I read of Jessie's and it got me trying several more of hers, but I think I like these best. They were just fun, and unique.
A 'can't put it down ' box set. I love the way that Jessie Gussman laughs at herself and highlights Jay and Chasedi's roles, in the midst of telling humorous stories
This set is just funny and increditablely written. It was fun to meet these remarkable and delightful people in Good Grief, Idaho that I won't forget in a long time. Thanks Jessie for some wonderful reading these stories.
Jessie Gussman once again provides her readers with adventure, a bit of drama, entertaining characters, sweet romance, humor, intriguing storylines and Christian values. With these qualities there is no way that you couldn't enjoy these books.I
As always full of fun, laughter, good people, and love. There are some crazy happenings in each story that just makes you laugh. It was fun to have the series together. You will really enjoy these stories.
A great set of books that will keep you laughiing. If you are having a bad day, picking up one of these books and you will find yourself joining the people in the stories.
