I feel after reading this novel, that the author has heard of England and Scotland, but that’s about as much research as she has done! I just couldn’t decide exactly when this story was meant to take place as it was all so confusing. First of all, we are told that our heroine’s father is a viscount - so, okay, the first viscountcy was created in 1440, so very late Medieval, almost Tudor. Then the heroine states that she isn’t worried about her sister being betrothed or married as she is only sixteen, and has several years to go before marriage! What?! Medieval noblewomen were often married as young as ten, and early teens was more the norm than the exception. Next, our hero is captured, but left in his kilt. Kilts were invented in the early 18th century - Highlanders wore the plaid, a large piece of woven cloth, wrapped around the waist, with a belt, the extra going over the shoulder, to use to cover the head in the rain. It takes our hero and heroine only a couple of days to travel from England to the Highlands, a journey that, with the two of them sharing a horse, would have taken much, much longer! The heroine recalls that she had been likened, in the past, to a porcelain doll - porcelain was first used in Britain in the mid 18th century. I could go on, but I can’t be bothered, honestly. It’s not as if this stuff is hard to find - Google anyone?
I think I gave up when, during a fight, an arm was ‘decapitated’, and the villain called the villainess a Narcissist! I was only going to give it one star, but I did quite like the hero and heroine. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was written by one of those computer bots.

Beiste Douglas, future Laird to Clan Douglass, fought along side of his father Laird Caspain Douglass and his cousin Alpin against the English who had seemingly appeared out of no where. In the end Beiste and his father had been captured and when Beiste awoke it was to see his father murdered in the dungeon of the Viscount, Lord Maxwell by the viscount himself. After his father had been slain the viscount sent in one of his men to torture Beiste. Knowing he may not survive the next round of torture he knew he had to escape. As he broke free and was trying to figure out how to get the key, an unexpected visitor came thru the dungeon. Trying to escape her father and his plan of her marrying Barron Smith, Louisa, her sister Sophie and her maid Martha had come up with a plan. Louisa could escape thru a tunnel in the dungeon. When she couldn’t open the door suddenly she realized she was not alone. Hearing what her father had done, she helped Beiste escape and together they traveled back to Clan Douglass and their home. When Beiste is told by Callum there was a traitor in their midst, he desperately tried to uncover who it is, not realizing it was someone very close to him. Can he find the traitor in time or will he lose not only his life but the one he has come to love?

When Beiste is ambushed and taken prisoner by Viscount Maxwell, he is forced to see his father executed in a grizzly way. The torture he endures is both physical and emotional and he's close to giving up hope when an unlikely ally shows up and helps him escape with an agenda of her own. Coming closer as they travel, by the time they reach the castle a strong bond has formed. Little does the new Laird suspect, treachery awaits for a source he doesn't expect, though it seems fairly obvious to this reader. There is a lot of action followed by a happy ending however one can't help but feel that there are some stretches that are a bit wordy and drawn out. Both primary characters seem to have a lot of self-doubt and uncertainty which makes the story drag, and I hardly think it necessary to have the wedding night continue to two chapters. Other than that, it's a good story with strong characters. It is worth a read.

An absolute masterpiece!

This book is phenomenal and an absolute must read! The story of Beiste and Louisa is filled with love, loss, and betrayal and I was hooked from the very beginning. He is the son of a Scottish Laird and she is the daughter of an English Viscount. Fate will bring them together when he is captured by her father. Trying to escape being trapped in a marriage she doesn’t want, she will enlist Beiste’s help. Their journey will be filled with danger but they will reach the safety of his clan. But all is not as well as he believes and soon, betrayal by one close to him will put them all in danger. It will be a perilous time but in the end, their love will bring them through the hardships and on to their happily ever after.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Two people so different, he a Scottish Warrior Heir to the Laird. She an English Noble daughter, treated horribly to be betrothed to and evil Baron. As she tries to escape from her Father’s clutches she meets this Warrior in the dungeon. Together the decide to help each other. The Journey of a lifetime of experiences, adventure, trust, emotional growing, ingenuity, feelings of passion , happiness, hope and true love all come about.
Louisa Maxwell and Beiste Douglas were quite the unlikely pair. Fate, determination, desperation, had so much to do with this couples storyline. They will capture your heart and you will be hooked. You will feel all the emotional pain and happiness and feel, cheer , and cry.
This is another Great One by Fiona Faris.

bride for the highland beast

It started off really strong, with an interesting male lead who is the new head of the his highland clan and struggling to come to terms with leadership, the death of his father, and his feelings for the daughter of the English noble who killed his father. The female lead isn’t very strong in the beginning, but had potential to be a great character as a noble woman who had never been allowed to grow up under the rule of her father finds freedom and romance. But the female lead instead of advancing and growing shuts down and doesn’t communicate well which felt frustrating as it hindered the romance/sexual tension of the book. Still a satisfying ending though! 3/5

From a strong beginning, the story progresses through a distinct lack of communication until it almost breaks down all trust. With a traitor in his castle, Beiste struggles with his emotions, overwhelmed by all that happens in the first few chapters. Louisa also struggles, but more with her insecurities. Her new life is not easy but somehow, there are few events dealing with this.
The sex scenes are interesting - I have never heard that waists thrust during sex!
Whilst a good story, I would have preferred a little more about the people surrounding them and a bit more time for their relationship to develop within the life of the highlands.
Nevertheless, I gave this book 4 stars. It was an ARC I voluntarily read and reviewed.

Fiona grabs your attention from the start of the book to the finish. I love the character Beiste for he maybe large in size but he has a gentle soul. His wife Louisa reaches a part of Beiste that is fun to watch. The book is full of action from start to finish. It also has mystery in it. For there is a traitor in there midst. Who it is will be a surprise you. For the person is someone you wouldn't expect. Fiona makes the story come to life with the way she describes things. She breathes life into each character of the story. Making the story come to life. It's a joy to read from start to finish. It's definitely worth getting the book. J

Betrayal !!!

Another good read from this author, I really enjoyed everything about the lives of Beastie and Louisa how love truly conquer all. The plot was a good one the characters were on point and what's A good romance without the scorn and jealousy of the other woman who thinks she is the one, so again another very good read. But I have to say some of the words used caught my attention because of the era and time, not saying they were uneducated but simpler words like "you are with child not you are pregnant" and a few more, but I don't know I'm not a researcher just having read a plenty of historical romance. Again enjoyed the read.

Highland Conflict and Romance at Its Best:
A tragic beginning sets the stage for this fast-paced highland story.
Escaping together Beiste and Louisa are on a perilous journey that is
filled with romance, lusty passion, shocking betrayal's, an epic ending.
I felt this book had needless dialogue in many places.
The bed sport was not sensuous and happened to quickly.
Louia asking for him to perform certain things was out of character for
a young, sheltered lady.
Good epilogue finished the story to a happy ending.

Great story

Miss Faris does it again. Loved the story and the main characters. I especially like the fact that it’s more of a story that could have actually happened unlike most Romance books these days. There’s romance (of course )and there’s intrigue and action from time to time. I admit that I figured it out early (Atleast for me)into the story who the bad guy was but wasn’t sure til the end. It’s very easy to get caught up in the story and you will enjoy it. I definitely recommend you read this.

Another wonderful story from Fiona Faris. Fast paced and filled with captivating characters. The storyline contained deception, adventure, and treachery to the hilt. Bieste watched as his father was killed by a greedy viscount. As he tries to escape he is fortunate enough to have help from the viscount’s daughter. As they make their way to his home an attraction develops. Will Bieste’s clan accept the young English lass into the clan?

I enjoyed this story. My late husband has Douglas relatives as well as my granddaughters husband’s mother maiden name is Douglas. There was so much cruelty in the battles of war.

Excellent

I enjoyed reading this book, the villains weren't who you expected and it kept one reading to figure out who the traitor was. The Scottish wording I found was hard at times to pronounce correctly but did lend to more authenticity because of it. Very well written
