Canceled is the second book I’ve read from this author. It was intriguing with the plot twists, the supernatural element and the surprise ending (at least for me!) It definitely lived up to its suspense category. The one thing I didn’t like about this book was the detail given to the Ouija board’s description and how it is used. I think the author could have gotten his point across without introducing the reader to a Ouija board session. He did emphasize that Ouija boards were evil, but there was still too much detail for me. I actually skipped over that part of the book because I choose not to participate in that activity – whether through written word or in person. The characters were likable, the suspense and mystery and “who dun it” definitely stumped me, and I was turning pages quickly to find out what happened next.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was under no obligation to review it. All opinions are mine.

This is a good novel exploring what might happen when liberal theologians (there is no such thing as the supernatural) are confronted with the reality of spiritual evil. It starts at a liberal seminary when a student disrupts a class. It continues as the seminary professor commits suicide. Then another dies. Then another.
Leading the attempt to figure out what is happening and who is behind it are Jerold, professor and ordained (though a nonbeliever) and Brenda, daughter of the seminary president (also a nonbeliever). As the two follow leads provided by the first professor to die, they are confronted with spiritual truths they cannot deny. There must be a God. But if God exists, then does evil? If there is evil, how does one fight it?

Faubion does a good job of exploring evil spiritual attacks and deceptive temptations on unsuspecting people. People unaware of the whole spirit world. He portrays well the spiritual awakening and the struggle to recognize how wrong they have been.

I liked this novel. Some readers might be skeptical of the portrayal of evil and its influence on willing people. Faubion's novel is a good wake up call to the reality of the spirit world and the influence on humans. The events at the end might have been a little predictable but other than that, a fine, thought provoking novel.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I’m not the typical audience that would pickup this book but it was in my recommendation on BookSiren and the description sounded good so I decided to read it. I say that because I’m not super religious and have never read a Christian thriller. I did grow up in a Christian household so am familiar with the things discussed in the book.

I am glad that I read this book. I didn’t find anything offensive and whether you’re religious or not, if you believe there is good then there also is evil.

It is fast pace and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

I received this copy free from BookSirens, this is my honest options of the book.

I had such an uncomfortable feeling the entire time I read this story. The topic of the book deals with people who don’t believe in God. Some turn to darkness and a world where evil prevails in their mind. I didn’t want to continue with the story when I read that a character had a satanic Bible in their office. I felt chills on my arms as the story drew me to a place where only God could rescue me.

Jerold is a complicated character to me. He is a professor at a seminary but is up front about being a non believer. It is hard to explain the eerie things that start happening to him, but I knew evil was present and surrounding him. What would you do if suddenly you were erased and didn’t exist in any data that proves who you are? Suddenly your ATM card doesn’t work and the bank has no information on you at all. Jerold is up against a power that wants to take him out. With the help of Brenda whose father is the president of the seminary they try to unravel what is happening with deaths of friends they work with.

The author takes us to a place where doubt comes in and Jerold begins to question if perhaps the Bible is real. The story is thought provoking and follows Jerold into a desperate place for answers. Who is Evan Gale? Is he the enemy who is killing people? What control does he have on others? These questions are exactly what Jerold needs answers to if he wants to stay alive. His friends and colleagues all turn on him.

I wasn’t prepared for this story at all but what a powerful message it delivers. Like Jerold we sometimes doubt God and turn our back on Him. He will never leave us and Jerold comes to a place where he hears the truth. I could feel all his disbeliefs fall away as he fell to his knees. In that moment the story takes on a different feel to me. Perhaps the darkness was starting to go away and I could see the light where darkness once was.

Be prepared to take a journey into spiritual warfare as Jerold fights an enemy that wants to destroy everything that represents God. This is not a book that is easy to read but one that gives a message of hope. In our darkest moments, God is there to fight the enemy. Do you believe in God? Jerold faces that question as the story reaches a point where a decision needs to be made. The ending is good and left me with an urgency to pray against any evil that would try to turn me away from my faith.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

I love a good thriller book. Something to read and keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. There is just something about it that I love. Maybe it’s because my mind is always working to figure out who is behind it all and how it can be stopped. I love books that make me use my mind!

This is my first experience with this author. I really enjoyed reading his book. It made me think, not just about the plot and storyline but also about life now and some of the parallels that can be seen.

While I think this is a wonderfully written book I also do think that some of the content could have been left out specifically on the ouiji board. There are lots of evil things in the world that yes, we should be aware of, but not in detail or to a point where we’re familiar with how it works etc because that does take our mind to somewhere that I believe it shouldn’t go.

Also, I know it’s a novel, but why have an unbeliever be a professor at a seminary? That doesn’t make sense to me. At all. You would think where you are training believers you would want to surround them with believers who are teaching and disciplining them.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

I am thrilled to have read this book and its well done, strong message! This book will offend those who don't want to see how some of the darker spiritual forces creep in and how they can alter the lives of those who aren't aware and fighting it. Jerold was just teaching at a seminary. Like some other lukewarm Christians, he was just going through the motions. Jerold is not particularly processing them at all. When a chain reaction of things starts, he finds himself in a situation similar to the movie The Net, but with all the spiritual aspects included. Jerold has opened spiritual doors and lack of an active relationship with God may not have been his best move. What will he do now? There's murder, and mystery and all kinds of spiritual warfare. Friends and foes, and it's written to make people think. I really like that about this story. Where can doubting God lead? Who do you trust?

I think the a author did a really great job of showing the darker side of things that I've been exposed to some of in the past. Not for the same reasons, but it helped me understand where this story was going.

I can't give it less than 5 stars and a heads-up for those who haven't seen some of the spiritual struggles that are not so hidden in the dark.

BIG thanks to Celebrate Lit for my digital copy of this book. This review is all mine and a positive reivew is never, ever, required.

Canceled is a Christian Thriller that is written by John Faubion. This is the first book that I have read by the author. This is a book that will have you rely on your faith. Jerold is a luke- warm Christian that was going through the motions - even thought he was going through seminary. Which, most would think is an important thing to dive head first in. Things start to go downhill with Jerold. Jerold Steele has been canceled. His identity is stolen. His job is gone. Even more bizarre, the people around him are dying. While going through all this he starts to wonder where God can be in all of the chaos. He starts to wonder if God is even real.

Brenda is a non believer. Her father is the president of the seminary. They have been investigating all the strange deaths. She wants to trust Jerold. But since everyone around him seems to be dying - it's hard.

The author created some well written characters. I love the lesson of dark vs light. This book focuses on spiritual warfare - when we have to fight an enemy that wants to destroy everything that represents God. It's not often that I read books that have some intense spiritual warfare. I hope to read more from this author.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

I have mixed feelings about this book. At first I was confused with the many characters. I was also offended by the premise of a seminary with professors who had "taken all the prescribed Bible courses" but "studied the Bible as a piece of great literature", where the Bible was revered but just a book. We're told that "no one believed in devils" but that "angels were a different matter".

But as the story continued, deaths start occurring, and Jerold begins to wonder "what if the Bible were true?"--and that's when "Canceled" began to pull me in with its many twists and turns as well as spiritual challenges. As Jerold and Brenda begin to investigate Professor Potter's background and "suicide", Jerold wonders "Where was God in all of this? How can there be a God when something this evil exists?" Nothing had prepared Jerold for the evil that he was seeing all around him. Brenda is wary of "religionists"--the preacher, prophet, etc., because she had seen hypocrisy. As she and Jerold face fear and near-death experiences , they begin to question what they truly believe.

I'm glad I stuck with the book! As Light is revealed, Truth is uncovered, and there IS a HEA ending!

“We know the enemy, and his name is Evan Gale."

“Who are you, Evan Gale?”

Canceled by John Faubion is a thriller ride you won’t soon forget. Reminiscent of Peretti, a spiritual battle is taking place while events unfold on earth. A liberal seminary that doesn’t believe in the supernatural begins to question its teachings, as staff members meet violent ends.

I was glued to my seat as I followed Jerold Steele and Brenda Neal in their search for the truth. I could almost taste the fear and terror that Faubion puts some of his characters through. The twists surprised me, as I thought I knew the identity of the killer.

I appreciated the great, easy, and clear gospel presentation as it was very appropriate. I was surprised by the use of a 70’s tract in this very modern story. (I read that tract as a kid.) I would have been happier without denominations being named, since some readers may infer that a particular denomination mentioned must therefore be evil.

I received a copy of the book from the author and publisher via Celebrate Lit. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

"Canceled" by John Faubion is a book that I didn't like at all. I know it is rated as a thriller, but is also listed as in the Christian genre and there is only 5 pages if that many that has anything to do with Christianity. The rest of the book deals with evil and killing and saying the Bible isn't real.
I know most of the reviews are 4 and 5 stars but I'm giving it 1 star. I know that is cruel but I honestly cannot recommend this book. I was uncomfortable reading it. I kept thinking as a Christian how can I approve my unbelieving friends and my grandchildren reading this. I have to say that the 5 pages that I did mention above was very good and I underline them, I liked how he used worldly examples to explain Christian principals. If a reader reads this book than I say make sure to pay attention to chapter 27.

This novel is quite different than most I’ve read. It has a supernatural element, but one of evil rather than the holy. How could someone’s personal records disappear as if he never existed? Sounds bizarre, but makes for an intriguing plot. Then colleagues start to die. Jerold Steele, who had been head of the college religion department, fears for his own life. He had not believed in God or Satan, but the spooky danger surrounding him may convince him differently. As he tries to figure out what is going on and why, he may just stumble upon the truth—truth that will change his life. The compelling idea kept me interested even though the character development wasn’t as strong as it could be. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, you should find this one fascinating. The author makes the story seem plausible, although it’s one I hope would never really happen. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

I had the pleasure of reading previous books by John Faubion. I was excited that he had a new release called Canceled and jumped at the chance to read it. I was far from being disappointed. He has a unique style of writing that keeps me intrigued. In this book, I was entertained from start to finish. I felt like I was on a thrilling roller coaster. This is not an easily predictable tale. I never knew what was going to happen next.

I am giving Canceled a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romantic suspense. I look forward to reading more like this by John Faubion in the future.

I received a digital copy of Canceled from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Canceled provides non-stop action from the start. Something evil works against the faculty of a seminary. Jerold Steele loses his job, his identity and almost loses his life. Brenda Neal joins him in trying to discover what evil wants so many dead.

What I loved about this book beyond the characters stems from the part God plays in their lives. When we call upon the name of God, He will protect us. Some of the twists and turns this book takes caused me to shake my head in disbelief. But the author creates a story that shows how God triumphs over evil.

So if you enjoy Christian thrillers, check out this book for yourself.

This was an intense book to read. There is a lot going on and not at all what I expected. I was expecting a more watered down version of this I suppose. The author makes it realistic and points out the ways people can go astray in so many terrible ways.

I liked the authors writing style and how realistic everything was. I was uncomfortable at different parts of the book. There were different things going on that were dark and not at all what I’m used to. Overall it was a really good book and I’m happy I read it.

4/5

This story was not at all what I had expected. I thought it would be about the cancel culture, no, this book delves much deeper than that.

What do you do when you work as a seminary professor and do not believe in the God of the Bible? Or any one of your colleagues? In fact, what if they all have their own opinions of what god is? But what if you were all forced to deal with the supernatural that none of you believed in and you could not just dismiss it away with trite excuses?

I know that was a lot of questions for this review, but that was what I had for this entire book. What was the author's plan and how was this all going to play out in the end? As I read this supernatural mystery from the perspective of a man who did not believe, it was a bit creepy. Jerold had no one really to stand with him. Everyone was in a way canceling him, besides the obvious canceling that was happening in his life. What does it mean to be canceled? - to be erased.

This was a supernatural thriller that does deal with real life consequences when certain religious leaders have an apathy about the spiritual realm. The spirit realm certainly doesn't feel the same way towards them. Creepy and engrossing, I would not read at bedtime, and I would recommend for the mature believer.

I was provided an e-copy of this novel. I purchased a paperback for my reading enjoyment. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

This starts out slow, a meeting between administrators at a local Christian seminary . At least that is how they are labeled, but most of them have no relationship with Christ and don’t even read their Bibles. A strange thing happens during this meeting and unleashes a series of events quickly. Spine tingling and an awakening of things that are real and upcoming.
This book is all about spiritual warfare. As a Christian it really hit home with me. Most churches only preach about heaven and what a wonderful loving God we have. But there is another side. I am going to search out more books by this author. I received an ARC free from BookSirens. I am leaving a review of my opinions voluntarily.
Sorry I didn’t get this read sooner. It was me missing out.
