Really Good!!👏🏾🔥👏🏾🔥👏🏾🔥👏🏾🔥👏🏾🔥

I loved the depiction of the AA male protagonist as an intellectual. Something that rarely happens, if at all. The author was very adept at portraying the personality of such a man as he pursues his first true love.

This book made me think about my wife quite a bit. Those moments when I watch her, without her knowing, and I mentally begin to wax poetically. Wishing that I had written how I feel about her, but secure in the fact that 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙨.

This was such a beautiful story. Buy it, read it & enjoy.👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥

So sweet

This book was recommended to me by UniqueWords, LLC and I'm glad I gave it a chance. It isn't typically a sub-genre I'm into but I am a hopeless romantic who very much enjoyed this very well written love story. If I could sum up the book by using a quote from it, it would have to be "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Jake and Frankie were tormenting themselves avoiding obvious feelings they both had for the another, that would've made for a very lack luster book had they just told each other from the beginning lol. I loved that Jake was a brilliant and considerate black scholar that took pride in work, schooling and being a "nerd". His intellectual charm, genuine nervousness and "over selling" things was so refreshing. His passion for literature made me want to go back to school. ❤ I admired Frankie for her boldness and though she was fighting her feelings, she was very level headed, not ditzy or easily manipulated. I truly celebrated the admission of their feelings with them. It happened in such a beautiful way and though it didn't end the way I wanted, it was definitely fitting for them. Thank you again Ms. Unique for recommending it. It was a wonderful way to spend my days off. Look forward to finding more of Ms. Diamond's work soon.

Jake was one of my favourite characters in Passions' Players, so I was very excited when I heard that I can read a book about him and it did not disappointed me. The plot was entertaining and I loved to get know Jake better. He and Frankie are both awesome characters, who fit together so well! Shortly, I liked the book very much and I can recommend it! ☺

Hey Dr Newton

The vibe: smartypants romance meets hot for teacher.

A romance set in Ohio? In the city where I live? On the college campus I see or hear about almost every day? I was intrigued to say the least.

Theories of Attraction follows Jake Newton and Francesca (Frankie) Maynard as they navigate instant attraction after discovering that he’s her professor and she’s his student. Most romances that involve the professor/student dynamic shy away from showcasing any interactions in a true classroom setting, where the teaching subject is actually being discussed. ToA takes the classroom discussion on renaissance plays and poetry and weaves it through the course of the story. This does two things: it highlights Jake’s passion for his area of study and it shows that the author is more than familiar with the field and teaching.

While Frankie pushes for them to break the rules, Jake stands firm to his ethics. He has to; he’s a black man in academia. This leads to the other scene that drives the story & characters: the run in with campus police. Frankie is fleeing her attacker after being assaulted on campus when she runs in to Jake, and campus police finally get to the scene. Of course, they make assumptions and go through the administrative BS song and dance. It was another example of how ToA infused realistic campus scenarios when others do not.

Overall, I liked this book, though not as much as the first installment (The Love Campaign). The slower pace being the main difference.

Nerdy and Sexy

This was recommended by UniqueWords, LLC. I honestly had trepidation about reading this book. I passed it over literally 5 times. When it was recommended I bit the bullet and read it. The first couple of pages let me know I had to channel my inner nerd and I’m glad I did. Jake is a sexy sweetie with a very fit body. Academically brilliant, but too methodical on the ways of intimacy. (His bedroom is just for sleeping and nothing else!) Then enters Frankie who is so opposite from him. She’s brash with really no filter. (I didn’t want to like her, but I did.)
Did I mention he’s the professor and she’s the student? Needless to say sexy shenanigans ensued. SEXY SHENANIGANS (wink wink). Jake and Frankie balance each other. And for me his roommate Jordan offered comic relief (Jake, Frankie and the table).
I’m looking forward to reading more from Laura Marquez Diamond!

Content Warning: Frankie is assaulted by a group of 3 shitasses, she manages to run away, but gets a concussion from the assault. She runs right into Jake and finally Campus Police show up and do their racist skit on the Black Man. Everyone is safe in the end, and these topics are important to address, but take care of yourself when reading.

Smart is Sexy! I really loved this story where a super genius with limited social skills - Jake - falls completely and totally in love with a spontaneous firecracker - Frankie!

Not the typical nerd & jock

Francesca (Frankie) & Jake, meet in a normal fashion so to speak. However, their attraction is derailed once their relationship to each other comes to light. Reading this story with Frankie (her) being the jock and Jake being the nerd, was refreshing. The challenges make for interesting reading & is an enjoyable ride for the reader. This was a really great book! FMC is a mountain biker, and MMC is a scholar and also her professor. They are close in age. Jake was the definition of a cinnamon roll hero; he was very attuned to her, and as a reader, you can see how quickly they developed feelings and fell for each other.
Theories of Attraction sends you on a ride you won't forget, and I recommend this book to anyone who wants a great romance filled with spice and small moments that make you go ''awww''.

More like a 3.5.
There were a few plot threads that weren't picked up again.
There were POV changes that didn't make sense.
