What is reality?

What if you could manipulate it through software?

A programmer found a way to do it… and he named it seglife.

On Theo's 35th birthday, his best friend tells him that he has discovered something astounding: a way to travel through time using software.

However, soon after they use seglife for the first time, they receive a visit from two mysterious strangers: Dr. Tom and Dr. Will. One seems nice, the other not so much. Soon, events spiral out of control. They find themselves being hunted by the guardians of the source code and also get caught up in the middle of a revolution. Worse still, they find out that peoples' lives are not completely their own!

Is there a way out? One man seems to know how to set them free, but it will not be easy!

You’ll love this dystopian futuristic novel with a twist, because it has shades of “the matrix” and “ready player one”.

Disclaimer: I received this book as part of Good Reads' First Reads program.

Seglife is the first part of a series which begins about time travel and ends up in a very different world. I won't explain that further, so as not to give away the ending. It's an interesting idea, and I liked the premise. However, the execution is marred by bad writing and poor grammar. It appears that English is not the author's first language, and there are countless mistakes with word usage and idiomatic usage. I also dislike it when a book is finished, but the story isn't, which is the case here. If you want to find out what happens to the protagonists, buy the next book in the series. I'll pass.

I'm a huge sci-fi fan, and was really excited about this book based on the synopsis, but boy was I let down. The writing style was incredibly immature and unpolished, the pacing of the story was really weird, and all around it was just not a pleasant read. It's only 98 pages, but I couldn't even make it past the third chapter. I got this book for free from a giveaway, and I'm glad that's how I got it because this would have been such a waste of money had I spent any on it. Marked as DNF on page 21.

I received a digital copy of this in exchange for a review.

Seglife is an impressive novel from Tiago Motta Jorge, and a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of technology and human experience. The novel is both entertaining and thought-provoking, and leaves the reader pondering the complex ethical questions raised by the prospect of virtual reality technology.

While the plot seems to get a little onerous at points, I still had a good time following Theo through the maze of suspense, thrills and one honka-chonka twist. Highly recommended.

sorta interesting concept but really hard to read for me & definitely needs serious editing. i gave up at the end of chapter 3 because i couldn't follow it. probably partly memory issues but also the writing style is almost simplified repetitive technobabble from what i read.

Definitely a Version 1.0. great concept and I will probably read the next book in the series. Like someone else said, it really needs editing. Areas of extraneous details followed by sections that could really be fleshed out.

I think the premise behind this book is interesting. However, I really struggled as a reader with the editing errors and word choice. I had trouble connecting to the characters as they felt forced sometimes.

The editing is crappy, the grammar isn't far behind. I didn't care for the format, dialog was all written as a paragraph instead of line by line when a different person was talking. I had trouble understanding the tech talk. was impossible.
