Kings of Desire

*re-edited version

I ran as fast as I could, escaping the monster, escaping my personal hell.
I wanted freedom, a ray of precious sunlight, yet all I found was darkness. Pitch black consuming darkness. That’s until when an opportunity arrived, maybe the most dangerous of them all, but the only one that could save me- The Pleasure Room. Heaven and hell dancing in mesmerizing circles.
That’s how I found them.
The three kings.
My three kings.
That’s how they bond me to them, tying me with invisible ropes and turning me into a slave of their wicked desires.

Cole - The King of Echo Millenium Academy. Always playing a game of lust and uncomposed primal urges.

Brax- The King of the underworld. A collector who craves to turn me into his centerpiece.

Ferris- The King of wealth. A king with true royal origins, yet the blood running through his veins is far from being blue. Darkness and madness intertwine in this man in their sublimest form. A tempter and a psychopath, reaching to crush much more than my body. Reaching for my soul!

Three Kings. My Kings of Desire!

The Kings of Desire is a dark college bully reverse harem romance and is Book1 of The Pleasure Room series.
This book contains material that may be sensitive to some readers and it's addressed to a mature audience.

No angels allowed between these lines, no Prince Charming, just sinful desires.

The Kings of Desire is not recommended for the weak of heart or for those who are looking for a perfect love story. This book is dark, twisted, pushing boundaries and imagination.

With three different kings, this book has it dystopian romance reverse harem, reverse harem mafia dark romance, reverse harem academy bully dark romance, dark reverse harem royal romance.

Please, read the trigger warning inside the book!

This is the kind of book you hide under a pillow when someone comes into the room. You will either need a glass of wine or holy water to read Kings of Desire.

Enjoy!

Potential

Please get a good editor. This story has a lot of potential, but the writing is weird and at times hard to follow. The wording didn't always make sense and just got
confusing. I'm still interested in the next book, but it needs a lot of improvements.

DNF 37% on Kindle.

Book has a lot of grammar and spelling errors. It feels like it was written on a phone because of weird autocorrects. I can usually look past grammar and spelling issues as I pretty quickly can pick up what they were trying to say. However, I came across a ton of "speed bumps" that required me to slow down and really process what the author could be trying to say. Lastly, the writing style is overstuffed with adjectives. Like the author is trying to be poetic and overly "romantic" but it's nonsense if you start looking at how the author compares and describes places, objects, characters, etc.

I can't comment too much on character development but from the 1/3 of the book that I did read, the FMC is very strange and stagnant. Her running off for an education while her siblings are left in the hands of a trafficker is bizarre especially when she can't afford to eat, pay rent, have more than two pairs of pants, or pay tuition. There is no flow of time, just FMC materializing in different locations. After meeting the 3 MMC, I couldn't tell you if it's been days or weeks or months. Her education is a huge plot point and explains her drive, but I couldn't tell you if she's actually attending classes or if it's all off screen.

This is a first-draft Wattpad book with unremarkable main characters and a plot full of holes and nonsense.

I was on the edge of my seat. Intentionally I expected the book to be just like many other college reverse harem romances. I was game for one, lol, but this was much more. I was left guessing at every turn, and I thought she would get together with Cole's friends from the beginning, and when she didn't, I sat like. Huh? Then who will it be? Then I began to piece together the intro, and I was hooked. Lol, I loved how they all were dominant in their own way. Usually, there is a set hierarchy, but they were lone Alphas obsessed with owning their Queen.

The ending, though, lmao. I can't wait to read book 2.

Oh the games. Oh the drama. Spice and romance and plot too. Can’t get to the next book fast enough after that ending either.

I read this book on Kindle after I saw a tiktok about it. I thought it had potential the first half... but idk it wasn't that great.

There were multiple grammar errors but I can live with that. I couldn't get into the storyline even thought about DNF multiple times. But I finished it and had a lot of questions, so I even started the second book, but I DNF the second book at 83%.

Absolutely Outstanding ** NO SPOILERS **

Bea is living in hard times, as In really hard. Set in a dystopian version of our world the planet is in dire straits with pollution so foul that there’s a semi permanent pall of it hanging in the sky. Her home life is no bed of roses as with the death of her mother, her father has become a much darker version of himself. He was always envious of the time his wife shared with their children and after her death the envy switched to hate. Bea has to run away from home to find a way to rescue her siblings.

Determined to finish college to allow her to better her chances of success she enrolls into a new college where the disparity between the “haves and have nots” is stark. There are Elites and everyone else labelled with the jarring term of Annelids (worms). The difference and treatment is akin to apartheid. After receiving some bad news Bea is desperate and floundering but the next morning a very expensive looking note arrives promising the key to a new future if she’s brave enough to take the opportunity. It takes her to The Pleasure Room.

Yes it’s dark and explicit, it the FMC a has to endure humiliation and degradation but she’ll what she has to in order to rescue her brother and sister. What would you do to survive and keep your loved ones from harm? Definitely dark, it’s undoubtedly triggering for some people. The concept of the book definitely held my attention.

I'm not a big fan of dark romance and I didn't expect this story to appeal to me. but oh how wrong I was! The characters, the way each one is different and doesn't repeat the same personality, their interaction, everything. Another thing I like is the world created, not being the same boring and repetitive thing as in other books.

This book is set in a dystopian type of future universe. I thought it was a bit slow until the PLOT TWIST of the century kept me hooked. I liked the first one but not enough to continue the series further. SUPER dark.

Wow! It was sooo hard to put this book down! I stayed up till almost 2am because it just kept getting better and better. The men in this book are just drool worthy! Something about their dark sides and the mixture of good popping out makes this story so great to read. And the ending what a cliff hanger! Soo excited to find out what happens more with their relationships! Great book!

The teaser videos on tiktok and instagram were interesting enough to make me pick it up, and that's about where all of the heat lies with this book. Sorry?

The story and the world have a decent amount of potential with it being a world paralleled but different than our own but everything about this just fell flat for me. I was bored, I was confused, and as a whole the scenes I already saw in some of the videos was all the hot that was really here. I actually found myself skimming passages because I also didn't find myself caring much at all and just wanted to be done.

First and foremost - this book needs an editor, which is a constant complaint among a good amount of reviews I see here on GoodReads, not that I read any before diving in so that's my bad. But it does. Misspelled words, wrong words, missing words - none of this helps when I'm fighting to stay in the book and trying to find a reason to care in the first place. So it was definitely a struggle bus read on that side of things. And I'm so aware that editors aren't cheap, but even some beta reader eyes on these things to help in exchange for the read or other author friends that might have time to give a hand would be so helpful for this.

My second issue is when I first dived into this book I thought we were in a fictional world but one the same as the real one. I'm honestly not sure if I missed somewhere along the lines if it was kind of mentioned that it wasn't just a mirror of our real world, but its own or not and didn't really get it until the point when she saw the sun and was confused and in awe. It intrigued me that this was different than our world, but we're not really given a LOT for that. Give me more world-building, more ability to dive into a new setting, a reason to find myself there and potentially care. Even at the academy, we're told there's this hierarchy, but we don't really see it past Cole beating people up on occasion when we dane to actually appear at school. I'm not even fully sure how often she's going to school anymore or if it's just this plot pin to be able to pivot the FMC around in order to have a reason to snag the 'most dangerous man' at the academy.

Speaking of caring, I didn't really find myself caring about the FMC. At. All. She bounced between being nervous and resenting that she's trading her body for these favors and this wanton little thing that once pushed to the edge just gave in and fully embraced it and it might have given me whiplash if I was actually invested in her.

I understand her wanting to get her siblings out of the horrible situation she escaped from, that they're still stuck in. But while she trades her body for favors from the three men, outside of that I don't see her being that concerned. Like, sure we have her overhear a conversation between Cole's parents to find out where we were with that side of things, but she never actually talks to him about it, asks him how its going, etc, until after that point, and even then, there's no resolution to that side of things before the book ends.

Considering how possessive each of the three are presented to be, I don't understand why they're sharing. Considering this was sold as a Dark Romance, I didn't see it as dark at all. It's got elements of rough sex and controlling men, but that's not exactly Dark to me personally? Maybe I'm a little more twisted and this is to some people, not to me.

Finally, I get romance books have the 'for romance reasons' that you have to dive into sometimes because limited time to get heat or connection considering we don't want a GRRM novel for everything, but this just didn't even feel right for that reason as to why all of a sudden these three men care that much about her and her family.

Cole has literally no reason to offer her his help. She spys on him shaking down some classmates for money, he calls her a mouse, and then later at a party she's his companion for the night that he's contracted not to really touch. How does this lead to him caring enough about her at all, even in a heat/sex way to want to contract with her for his help? (technically his father's help)

She answers a pleasure request to sleep in someone's bed and now Ferris has to keep her? After one night of pushing him to boundaries because some of the things she's not comfortable with? And he's supposed to be a psychopath, but I see NOTHING of that in this book at all. All I get from him is PTSD episodes that he's trying to use joking and sex to get through. And because we have no backstory on him really, I can't even say that I care about him at all.

And then we have Brax, who used her to get into a party and suddenly this dark, angry mafia head wants to spend thousands of dollars to get her family from her father... ?

Even for romance reasons has its limit, and this book hit that limit and blew past it in spades. Which lead to a giant pile of me going, okay, I'm just glad this book is done.

Like even the ending and how it's supposed to be a push to roll the reader into book two, just doesn't make me care enough to continue on. I don't care enough about her siblings, the boys, or our main character to want to continue. And if the book is as poorly edited as this one is, that will just add to my want to care to continue.

Just not for me.

Normally I would find this book to be terrible at least the plot part but everything had a purpose like little snidbits of a convo she overheard or the buildup of characters and I would usually be annoyed that at the delay for a bit of action but like ga damn. I will definitely be reading the next book because it ends in a cliffhanger

DNF. Might pick this book up again. I was about 40% through and it was barely picking up. It was taking me forever to read due to slowness and repetition of the FMC.

!

I almost DNF'd this chapter 1 because there were an excess of exclamation marks and it annoyed me, but I thought I'd give it a chance. By chapter three I was counting them because I had to know - how many total examination points could this author use? The answer? 172 that I caught, who knows if I missed any. The rule is like 5 for a book this length. I'd even allow like two or three per chapter and not notice, but a single chapter of this book had 31, and that's egregious.

Insufferable punctuation aside, this was a slog for me. I can normally read a book this length in a day or two, this took me 8. I hated every character, the dialogue couldn't save it, but the world building almost did. In face, up until the last three pages I even considered reading the rest of the series because the social structure was interesting enough, until our dululu FMC got a god complex, or whatever inspired her choices in the final chapter. No way I'll be continuing on now.

Kings of Desire ( The Pleasure Room book 1) by M.O. Absinthe

I have to say for first time reading anything by this author. I have to say I really enjoyed this books. It is a reverse harm dark bully romance.

Bea has hard time growing up, her father once her mother died; treated her and her two younger siblings badly, like really bad. She was old enough to run and knew she’d get her siblings at some point. Enter she meets Cole at college he’s an elite and then she starts working at pleasure room and meets Ferris and Brax. She needs them to get her siblings away from her father. She how she gets these men to help her with the only thing she can promise. Join her journey into a new life for her and her siblings and what she sacrifices for them.

This had me screaming and throwing the book to stare at the wall for hours. It was also my first ever dark romance book ever and I had to question my sanity because of what I read. Not only did I realise I didn’t like reverse harem as much but also that I’d be fine with it as long as there’s fucked up shit in there. And there’s a lot of that. I still need to read Kings of Lust but honestly I still need time to heal from this book because it’s literally like drinking venom but refusing to stop because of some inexplainable burn it gives you even though you know you’ll die. That’s a pretty stupid way to describe it and you’re probably confused af if you’re reading this. I’m pretty bad at explaining things but either way. Just pick the goddamn book up and start reading it. If I’m gonna suffer after reading this, I’m not doing it alone.

Yesssss, Dark, Dark and Double Dark.

Sometimes you read a "Dark romance" and it's just a cute little romance with some spicy scenes that are only considered Dark to the newbies. I think I've evolved from that, and this first book was a step in the right direction.

I like the setup that's going on for the next book, and am hoping the POV goes into the minds of some of these Psychos, because the whole book was great, but I do enjoy the chapters from the men's perspective, since most of the FMC's observations are "his face was hard to read" or "he closed off his emotions" or something like that. I really wanna know more of what's going on inside their brains.

That is all, just like in the introduction, these books are not for the faint of heart.

Pretty Good

The only notes I have about this book are ones that brought me out of it while reading. There were a few word errors and spelling errors, but not too many. What did keep confusing me was the use of roaring, roared, etc. The dialogue would end with a period but the sentence would be described as a roar so I couldn't tell if the person was shouting or if maybe the author was just trying to emphasize the words being said. Lastly, the use of '?!' At the end of a great very many sentences. I realize they were used to express the magnitude of emotion the characters were feeling, but it did pull my out of the story quite a bit.
Other than the above issues, it was a really good read that I enjoyed, and I'll definitely be reading the next book!

When Bea moves away to go to school and to try and make a better life for herself, so she can gain custody of her siblings, she never thought she would get into the “predicament” she is in. With 3 Kings(as she calls them) vying for her attention, she makes 3 deals. Each deal holds a different piece to getting her siblings back and each deal has its dirty payments. 😈

Umm, give me all the spice… 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. (Whew, my husband loved this book. IYKYK. 😉)

Quotes from my husband after I read this:

“Where did that come from? That was some pre-kids stuff.”

H: “How many chapters did you read? 2?”,
M: “I read the whole book”,
H: “Gah Damn… well keep reading!”

That should give you an idea of how the book is. 😂

The book is ok. It feels like it was written in a different language and stuck in google translate. Some of the sentence structures and the terminology used for school is definitely not US based (which isn't a big deal). There is just no sense of location. If typos and grammatical errors are pet peeve of yours, do not read this. There is at least one if not more per page! Also, I still don't have a clear picture of what the characters look like. I hate when authors overdo it but aside from green eyes, tattoos and tongue piercings, characters remain vague. I like the idea of the book. It's a different plot from what I've read in this genre, just not quite sure where things are going, but I'll stick around to find out.

deals

Kings of Desire is book one in the series The Pleasure Room by author M.O. Absinthe. (Love the name by the way) Ok so this read will keep you on the edge of your seat. So many twists and turns. Three deals- Bea has a lot of juggling to do. However her first priority is her siblings and she needs help. Hence the deals- wealthy beyond means- is Ferris, political standing- is Cole, underground connections- is Brax. Each so different from the other yet they hold a key to helping her.
There’s also a war coming and no one is safe. Oh and the sexual tension is off the charts- it’s a slow burn that begins with chapter one.
Enjoy!!

I really wanted to like this as the idea behind the main story was interesting. I had also seen this previewed on TikTok a lot so finally picked it up.

Like others mentioned, this really needs to be edited. I had problems following the narrative in places because grammar was incorrect or things didn't make sense.

I also couldn't connect with the characters and it felt so disjointed in how she would build these deals and move forward with 3 different guys with zero connections (from what I had read). Also couldn't figure out if FMC was meant to be weak or strong as she rode the line too much for me.
