After agriculture, trade, industrialization, colonization and capitalism, technology is arguably the next big shaper of geopolitics in the world. It is increasingly a major determinant of the destiny of nations today and is creating a new set of winners and losers on the global stage.
In The Great Tech Game, the author provides a coherent framework outlining the key drivers that will determine the ability of a nation to succeed in this technology-dominant era. He lays out a roadmap for how any country must develop its own strategic plan for success. Leaders must inculcate a new set of capabilities to understand and take advantage of these trends, and create enabling environments for their nations to not be left behind. A particularly challenging aspect will be the ability of countries to define and manage the roles of state and non-state actors in a global race for technological leadership and success.
The book goes on to evaluate whether digital colonialism is an inevitable reality, or whether new frameworks will emerge to govern relationships between technology-rich and technology-poor nations.
It is no surprise that in present day technology is shaping our destiny, our economy, our society and indeed, us. What is actually happening in this tech world is far more vast and intricate than what is present in front of our eyes. The major changes are nothing but the accumulation of strategic moves that dates back to even ancient history. In this book the author has pin pointed every aspect of global technological upsurge and related geopolitical alignments that contributed to such relatively competitive game. The game includes all and slowly but surprisingly it's changing everything.
This book is a bird's eye view of the global technological changes and how everything is changing along with it. This great surge of change is connected to a series of multi-layered historically significant incidents and here various facets of it has been discussed in great details. The way everything has been connected and linked with major events gives us a broader understanding of the situation both in terms of complexities and opportunities. The details hold profound meaning and all the concepts are clearly surfacing through the writing. The storytelling is a work of genius, never once along reading this book I felt bored or dissuaded, in fact it was really interesting to read something so extensive and well structured. It's a good book to educate oneself in geopolitics with special emphasis on the the tech world as it's the controlling factor of our future.
Divided into 5 parts and 16 chapters this book is an insight into how technology is affecting our life as well as the geopolitics.
Have you ever thought how much Technology affects the development of a country? The answer is a lot. The keys that disrupt 'The Great Tech Game' are - the climate and the biotechnology.
The author has used very simple language and the technical jargons are written in such an easy manner that anyone with very limited knowledge can understand the content of this book.
Although I am from a technical background, I got to learn so many new terms!
It took me quite sometime to finish this book because I am afraid of big books but don't let that scare you - this book is worth reading (even if you are not from Geopolitical or Technological background).
Book - " The Great Tech Game " Author - " Anirudh Suri " Genre - " International relations, non- fiction, Geopolitics , history , Science "
There is a quote at the beginning of the book - ' Adapt or perish, now as ever, is nature's inexorable imperative. ' by H.G Wells.
Every period in history had a game changer which defined the course of humanity and how the human civilisation evolved. We are aware of the agriculture, trade, colonization, industrialisation and capitalism has transformed the world for better or worse.
The author now says that the great game of the 21st century is the " The Great Tech Game " which is unfolding in front of our eyes. I doubt anyone would not agree on this as our day to day lives are closely interconnected with technology. Right from the moment we wake up to we say bye to our loved ones miles away through a video chat. Technology has redefined the way we lead our lives and has rooted deep into our cultural psyche without which life can run amok.
The book delves deep into these aspects interconnecting out past and present as to how one invention lead to another. This is a cycle which keeps adding new elements overpowering both our expectations and the predecessors.
The book is divided into 4 parts with each part masterfully written to weave a big picture as to how tech is here to stay. The author has done enough research to prove beyond doubt that technology has not just impacted us at micro level but even at macro level.
He urges the all countries to remain relevant in this tech era. Falling back on past solutions is no longer an option in this generation where tech has engulfed and spread its tentacles on every branch of government and life. How policies must be written in conjunction with the information in hand, how our foreign policies needs to be revamped , etc. All these carefully and strategically planned out options is what is going to usher any nation to success and to survive in this technologised world.
This is more than just a roadmap but a survival kit for the nations which can prove to be very decisive in the present and the near future. Overall, I loved this book for the information and inter connectivity which the author weaves with ease.
"Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved." -William Jennings Bryan

As we further move or delve more and more into the new digital normal that has been caused due to the recent changes that took place, there is profoundly a new picture of the relationship between technology and geopolitics that is emerging, which is quite different from anything that we have ever witnessed before.
As the author has rightly mentioned, these numerous capabilities are fast becoming the frontlines of either global competition or coordination.
As a result of this, all the developments that are taking place happen to lead to a need for global norms and protocols in order to accelerate the benefits as well as mitigate the risks of the new technologies.
It was surprising as well as refreshing to see the vast range of the author to portray about the genesis right from the 10000 BCE up tp the present era that we are all witnessing.

The globalised world we are living in today wasn't like instantly turned into a world where we all became interconnected and interdependent on each other. The foundation of it was laid way back when human civilisation actually started to explore the riches of the earth and went on deeper to know its usefulness. The British also had a huge contribution to make us a globalised world. The colonial era that we thought ended in the late 20th century with Britishers moving back to their island country was actually end of a chapter of colonialism, not colonialism as a whole. Because from time to time, different empires had tried innovative techniques of exploring a new land and establishing their hegemony over them. And now is the age of technology. The new weapon to control geopolitics, global market and diplomacy to a good deal of extent. And that's what the author talks about in this book.
Author Anirudh Suri has distinctly pointed out in this book about global tech war and its consequences. It's not only a war between two nations (US-China) over a little competition and at the end of which we declare a winner by handing a trophy to the winning one. But it goes deeper to how politics and patrons will eventually takes side and lay down the foundation for a new era.
The Great Tech Game was a wonderful read for me. The book explains the global contest for technological, economic and geopolitical dominance, which had started to shape the world political and economic order. Technology is making us freer than ever, and more monitored. It has made it easier to love, and easier to hate. The author had also evaluated technology’s impact on human behaviour, human relationships, values, culture and re-shaping many aspects of decision-making. All the chapters are informative and well-researched. The language used is simple. Though, the book was bit lengthy, but it was worth reading. Highly recommended.
“As former Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, and Jared Cohen point out, ‘the Internet is among the few things humans have built that they don’t truly understand’, even as we all are witnessing how ‘mass adoption of the Internet is driving one of the most exciting social, cultural, and political transformations in the history.’”
Many inventions, such as Agriculture, Money, Industries, Capitalism, etc. have revolutionized human history, and we rose as the most intelligent and dominant species. Technology is one of them too, and every little thing in our life is an outcome of technology and engineering.
Technology not only has made our life easier but also affected us mentally through propaganda and polarization. Countries use social media, which is an integral part of our life, to polarize us, create chaos and amplify hatred in order to fulfill their greed and geopolitical objectives.
Technology is now treated as wealth and the nations which are greatly equipped with it can do anything imaginable. It is shaping the destinies of nations and their people. It has become a game where everyone is trying hard and "smart" to win it. It is now a GREAT TECH GAME.
The Great Tech Game is an in-depth study of how technology has been and is shaping the human race. It is an interesting book that connects dots of present, past, and future and thereby explains this circle of effects of one invention on another. Although the book is bulky, it dives deep into every aspect of history and technology and presents the analysis.
“As amazing as the changes of the past twenty years have been, they are only the first stages of a multi-decade transition to a digital economy that will rival the industrial revolution in terms of transformative power.”
The book is divided into 5 parts: 1. Insights from the great games in history 2. Technology: The new economic destiny of nations 3. Technology, Geopolitics and the new world order 4. Setting the rules of the great tech game 5. The changing face of society and humanity
If you are a history lover or interested in learning geopolitics, the evolution of the human race, you should definitely go for it. I absolutely loved it and recommend it to everyone.
• “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.”
• The overall length of the book is 556 pages and the overall theme of the book revolves around the analysis as done by the author concerning the changes which shall be brought forth after Capitalism which is the technology and takes the reader to an insightful journey to how any nation must use their resources to adapt and thrive in this technology-driven era. As we proceed further, the whole of the book has been divided into 16 Chapters with the Preface of the book verily setting the book’s tone as the author brings about a succinct discussion regarding technology in the light of contemporary times. Delving further, the first chapter of the book is titled “The Great Agri and Trade Game” where the author delves further into the historical paradigm of one of the vital facets of human evolution which began through Agriculture and its interplay with trade and Geo-Politics. As the chapters progress further, the author carries forth a systematic form of narration which adds to the brevity aspect of the book.
• The writing style of the book has been kept simple, analytical, and very descriptive as the author has done holistic research to give us a brief picture of the historical perspective of things and the contemporary times. Additionally, the length of the book remains to be justified as nowhere can one find anything irrelevant with the theme of the discussion and analysis.
• In the light of the same, the book can easily be considered a must-read for anyone willing to keep himself/herself abreast concerning the emerging sides of the technological front of Technology which would have a far-reaching consequence on our Geopolitics.
Today we are dwelling in what can be known as a science dominant era. In such instances it receives very essential for nations to control their positions. Anirudh Suri, a technological know-how assignment capitalist in his e book The Great Tech Game has furnished a specific perception into the present day familiar tendencies and how countries have to take gain of them to rise. The book has been divided into sixteen chapters, all revolving round the new participant introduced about by using capitalism – Technology. Throughout records innumerable elements have affected geopolitics, as the creator mentions in the book, and now it suggests us the affect of tech over geopolitics. As a tech student, this was once a very informative read, some thing I will come returned to again. Geo politics as a theme is very complicated to comprehend. But the distinct components of science as added ahead in the e book helped in analyzing the modern-day state of affairs a bit clearly. It offers suggestions, particularly in the Indian state of affairs of how to buck up and seize with the trends. How to successfully use our sources and take keep of the opportunity. To be honest, technological interventions are taking area regularly in our daily lives as well. Moreover, it has a exquisite affect on geopolitics too. Through this book, Anirudh speaks about all the technological transformations with the assist of his full-size ride as an entrepreneur. With references from previous and present, the creator additionally gives an perception about what kind of technological have an impact on will be there in our future engagements. There are additionally some components of the e book which speaks about what India can do to be a phase of this evolution. This e book would for positive exchange our standpoint on science and its impact.
Geopolitics simplified is a term that I would like to coin if I have to refer. Author Anirudh Suri a managing partner of India Internet Fund & former policy adviser, Management consultant and known to be worked with the Indian Government – writes about how the futures and probabilities of nations are interlinked and how can we culminate major power changes in strategy to our advantage using the gravity of technology.
This book is all about how technology shapes our world & the nations through the matters of the integral substance of Policy, Economy, democracy and history. How we come from ancient times to colonialism to current industrialisation is a long way that paints a bigger picture that needs tons of work to make us understand the medium of geopolitics, but flow in the narrative gained the space to understand the following: National rivalry in future, the strategies to compete with the other nations, global climate spectrum or environmental change, to spot the developing war conflicts and much more digital constraint of resources. What does this book offer? Digestible notes to understand the complexity of the topic along with the extensive notes and substantial research. With the key statements of strategic thinkers, he enables us to observe sources of sanguinity around the various sectors, the factor of production – government, society and international ties. Technology in geopolitics is a brain-stimulating subject, and the author’s writing makes the read a lively and relaxing one. This book relatively speaks of everything about humanity in the modern tech era that we need to know and what we skip or fail to connect with - The range of global importance of how an individual choice gets affected by some unnoticed crisis that happened elsewhere. This book tops my rereading list as I want to explore this subject in detail. The Great tech game is all you need if you are up for some mind-boggling game.
The Great Tech Game: Shaping Geopolitics and the Destinies of Nations by @anirudh_suri
@harpercollinsin
Written by an entrepreneur in the technology sector hence you can feel the depth of the subject matter while reading this book, complemented by the commendable cognition of history, politics and global affairs. The Great Tech Game is not merely a book about the emerging era of technology, but rather a complete package of wisdom about society, history and global understanding.
It's very substantial, relevant and indispensable to understanding today's geopolitical leverage. Most importantly this book is explaining these complex topics in the easiest possible way. This book broadly has been divided into five parts, including historical references to the tech game.
It's a jargon-free and easiest book to understand how technology is shaping us as a nation, and our future as a society. I would love to highlight chapter two of part one here which talks about tech/digital colonialism subtly, and I found the observations very interesting.
I didn't find any information irrelevant or outdated. It's very insightful, laden with plenty of references, articles and literature, but fascinating at the same time.
Here in this book author has magnified what is needed for a nation to develop its strategic plan to succeed, and how technology can be used to the threshold value to enable a domain in which their nation can flourish.
This book is a great addition to your library and the scholarly study of the topic.
One should read it not only to understand geopolitics in terms of technological advancements but also how to write a well-researched book. Worth my time. Many times. My sincere appreciation to the author for this book.
The book stretches around with 550 pages encompassing a total of five parts comprising sixteen chapters. The content of the book is captivating with various facts. Although the language is simple and served to be understood by the general readers, I found it difficult to grasp certain content that talks advance about the technology. There are a lot of new vocabulary that is new to me, such as cyberespionage ( a form of cyberattack that steals classified, sensitive data), Technology laggards (those that are not used to any significant degree for the development of new software systems today), tech titans (people or companies that have contributed the digital/Information age with innovative tech products or services).
Mr. Anirudh also provided a clear understanding of how important technologies are for the development of a country. The author sketches out the relationships between technology-rich and technology-poor nations. I'm extremely new at learning about digital colonization, which is an intriguing topic to read. Our government had taken various initiatives and schemes to improve digitalization in our economy. And how these could have a long-lasting impact on our society can be realized after reading the book.
The author highlighted the two keys namely, climate and biotech which have the power to disrupt the Great Tech Game. As a biotechnology student, I could greatly relate to this. The author offered his perceptions through various examples that made them understand with ease. I must appreciate the author for his extensive research in each chapter. Although the book might interest only the readers interested in technology and geopolitical content, I would suggest everyone go for this book.
Anirudh Suri's book, The Great Tech Game, promises much but cannot deliver the goods. On the positive side, the book is descriptive, giving me the impression that he wished to pack in as much information as possible, but not so much that the reader's patience runs dry. In the book's first sections, he discussed some trends taking place in AI and how they affect geopolitics. He speaks of 'the Great Tech Divergence,' an excellent phrase, using it to highlight the growing differences between countries. In the latter sections of the book, he abandoned this analysis, focusing on cramming in as much information as possible—information irrelevant to the subject at hand. Even when he discussed issues like education and the growing gaps between countries, he did not draw inferences to explain how this will affect future AI and geopolitical strategy. His geopolitical analysis is consistently superficial: AI and related technology are a new aspect of rivalry between nations. However, he makes one consistent point throughout the book: India is a laggard in the race. Even here, he did not take his analysis to the logical conclusion. What is India's position today, and what will be its projected position ten or twenty years from now? What holds India back, and what can India do to speed up its development? I would have liked to have seen one or two detailed analyses explaining the growing US-China rivalry and how AI and related technology will change their relative positions in the coming decades. Will they go to war, and will a global conflagration engulf us? The book contains a lot of information and is readable. However, the author delivered an information dump with little or no analysis, an unfulfilled promise.
The Great Tech Game Genre: Technology The Great Tech Game is a technological book divided into 5 parts: 1. Insight from the Great Games in History 2. Technology : The new Economic destiny of nations 3. Technology, geopolitics and the new world order 4. Setting the rules of great tech game 5. The changing face of society and humanity Writer have started Right from "The Great agri game" in previous era then dove into economics related to technology, through some stats and graphs and perfectly elaborated how each country's GDP is affected/dependent by/on the technology. How modern Era technology is giving employment to a large extent of population and as a result of that supporting economy one way or another. Writer have also pointed out the tussle between states and Big Tech, USA and China and how the former or latter is dominating the other one. Major technological issues of the recent times are also described in an elaborated manner, whether it's Jack Ma's disappearance, Indian govt vs WhatsApp, Zhang yiming's step down from Ceo position and many more. Writer have also mentioned the major impact of technology on human civilization and concluded the book on a happy note with the Game Plan for India. Verdict: Being my first technological read, I came to know about many terms I wasn't aware earlier, e.g. Technology laggards, tech titans, cyberespionage are some of them. Book is well researched and updated with the recent time events. Being a techie myself I was totally able to grasp most of it and would surely recommend it to every techie out there.
THE GREAT TECH GAME is an account of human evolution from the perspective of GEO-POLITICAL and TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS. The evolution of hunter-gatherers, agriculturists into 21st century man, the evolution of an economic and competitive mindset and the evolution of our society at large- are the key components of this book. Now, if you are wondering about the title, let’s decode it and see what you can expect from this book: From waking up in early morning to go to bed at night, our lives are shaped through the benefits of technologies. Not only our private lives, but also the social, political and economic aspects of our nation are built upon the foundation of technology. Throughout the course of History, how this great tech has played an important part and in the course of upcoming future, how it can be an important driving agent, it is the main theme of this book. Now, coming to the ‘GAME’ part, our life is divided into 2 parts. (1) Play stage and (2) Game stage. Play stage is usually associated with children but the Game stage is the final showdown. I’ve found it interesting how Agriculture, Trade, Colonization, Industrialization and Capitalism are shown as Great Games played by dominating powers to rule the earth. But what are the new emerging geo political battlegrounds? How colonialism is changed into Digital Colonialism? What could change or go wrong with this great tech game? These are the questions whose answers you can expect from this well-researched and well-structured book. I liked this book very much and would recommend it to everyone. Also if you are a fan of hardcopies, I know you can’t resist to give it a try.
This book is based on the vast topic of Geopolitics of technology. Each topic is widely covered to the details yet it is easy to read and understand. It’s an outlook on the Tech Game by powerful countries like China, Russia and US.
It started with a simple choice, back in the history when we had barter system it seems simple but it was also a part of a big Tech Game to be developed. We inherited from those activities and lead to the future to use technology to our advantage.
This book gives us a new perspective on the economic, social and political implications of technology globally. All actions are tied based on the effectiveness of the alignment between the nations.
Agriculture, trade, industrialisation and digitalisation are the key aspects determining the nation’s growth but with Technology acting as a catalyst and making the complex phenomenon simple to understand . The various instances here are appreciating the most important consequential drivers of our individual destinies- Technology
Started with The Great Agri Game set in motion significant changes in human society which was back in history yet can be classified as the greatest game changer in the world’s innovation.
Technology throughout the years has two major roles - adoption and penetration. It started with adopting new measures for advancement but then slowly it penetrated in every phenomenon.
But we should always remember that The past is not always the best predictor of the future. The past is history but the future is yet to be build through the Tech Game.
The Great Tech Game written by Anirudh Suri was quite lengthy and it took me some time to complete it. But, trust me, this was an informative and insightful read. I will never regret the time I have invested in reading this book !
Nowadays technology has become an integral part of our society and economy. To be honest, technological interventions are taking place often in our day-to-day lives as well. Moreover, it has a great impact on geopolitics too. Through this book, Anirudh speaks about all the technological transformations with the help of his vast experience as an entrepreneur. He also explains about the emerging politics of technology. With references from past and present, the author also provides an insight about what sort of technological impact will be there in our future engagements. There are also some parts of the book which speaks about what India can do to be a part of this evolution. This book would for sure change our perspective on technology and its impact.
There are around 5 parts in this book which deals with The great games played in History, the new economic destiny of the nations, geopolitics and the new world order, rules of the great Tech Game and changing face of society! So many details and information can be gathered from the book. Sometimes, while reading certain parts of the book, we would be awestruck by the technological impacts in geopolitics! Such an insightful read and I would strongly recommend it to all who love reading about technology and its impact in a very detailed way!
I picked this book up because it just felt so relevant to my career, my passion and to the world as a whole. The cover was as attractive as the theme, so there was no stopping me.
I, obviously, was a little sceptical at first. I expected it to be full of technical jargons and hard to be understood and comprehended by laymen like me. Fortunately, I was met with a pleasant surprise, when I started turning it's pages without once feeling the need to use dictionary or even Google an event in history- as everything has been described so simply, yet keeping it so informational, that one never feels out of place.
Since I belong to a technical world, being up to date with what's hot is kinda the need of the hour for me. No matter how much catch-up we play, there's always something new, way ahead of its time, *sigh*.
However, this book very carefully tackles that doubt in one's mind. We always think about future as something completely unpredictable, something completely new. But, with the thorough research done in the book, we can see how much future our almost forgotten past holds.
With thorough description of revolutionary events throughout the history, which seemed to change the world, author very skillfully draws a picture of our future clear enough for us to be prepared, and even lead it successfully!
I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, regardless of which field of work they belong to. If you want to stay relevant, if not ahead of time, you need to pick it up, sooner than later.
Firstly I must start by mentioning that I never had much interest in technology or anything related to it. Sure my life, and many of yours almost completely rely on technology, but there are high chances we never gave it much thought before. But this book by Anirudh Suri really got me thinking. It shows in a very interesting way how technology is shaping our world.
This is an extremely informative book and it will take readers quite some time to grasp everything it says, but as someone who read it recently I can vouch for this amazing book- it's well worth the time you put into reading it. I already feel more informed about things I never paid attention to before. Matters that actually need to be discussed.
Kudos to the author for writing such a well-researched, detailed book. The best part is that it was easy to understand, even to a person with not much knowledge about the topic. Not once did I get bored or feel like the information was too dry in this 500-page book. The author moved to India after living in the US for over a decade, which is something very unusual- but what impressed me more is that he decided to write a book that focuses on technology's impact on Asia specifically.
This book, that's divided into 5 parts, might truly be one of the best nonfiction books I've read in a long time and I recommend it to all, even if you aren't a fan of the genre- because knowing the facts stated here seem absolutely necessary in today's world.
It’s a non fiction work. It took me a while to complete it as it’s bit far from my subject and it’s a huge book. I will try to briefly outline about the book here that will give you idea. This book is about how technology is shaping us, nations and their destinies, the world order and the future of humanity. And this book is about sensing that change and understand the way technology is changing us. The book is divided into four parts. Part one is into deep history and help us understand what we are living through today. Part two is about how technology is beginning to transform the economic destinies of nations. Part three is outside the confines of the nation. About how is technology shaping the relations between nations and the world order. And part four is how the rules of the Great Tech Game are being set. This book is a roadmap for how any country must develop its own strategic plan for success. The book goes on to evaluate whether digital colonialism is an inevitable reality, or whether new frameworks will emerge to govern relationships between technology-rich and technology-poor nations. I liked the concept. Author has explained it deeply. Author has explained everything with proper examples and literature references. The references of articles and proper timeframe suggests that author did ample amount of research before penning it down. The language of the book is lucid so layman like me without background knowledge can understand it. Quite an informative read.

Highly recommend you to read out this book... Happy Reading !
👉It had been long since I had read something technological and political. This book brought both these things in it. Anirudh Suri’s “The Great Tech Game” is a culmination of research done by him in the field of technology and politics. His interest in internet has established the first branch of Internet’s Fund in India. In this book the author talks about how technology has impacted everything around us and how there is an interconnectedness between technology and everything happening around us. From personal things to wars. Anirudh Suri will take you in the trenches and then introduce you to bunkers. If you know what I mean to state by this metaphor.

👉This book is written in a very prompt manner without leaving any details. It is fluid and easy to read. Informative, indeed. The name itself says a lot about the context of this book. It is based on real life just with a glimpse of perspective and understanding by the author. I loved reading this book because it was a new genre for me, plus is provided me with a lot of information that I was not known to. It is a long book of 500 pages but if you find your interest, it is an easy chunk.
