Sometimes the pen isn’t just mightier than the sword… Sometimes it’s deadly. It’s a chilly February in the tiny town of St. Drogo, on Prince Edward Island, when Olive Martin rushes home to help run her father’s stationery shop. But Olive has a lot more on her mind than pens and paper. Her father’s partner, Malcolm Warbly, recently died of a mysterious illness—and now Henry Martin is displaying the same symptoms. No one suspects foul play at first, but a cryptic set of messages left on a pad in the shop point to something being very wrong, and Olive soon finds herself embroiled in a mystery she’ll have to solve before it’s too late. Find a cozy spot, grab a hot cup of coffee with a slice of St. Drogo’s favorite Chocolate Potato Cake (recipe included!), and settle in for this charming Cozy Mystery!
I really enjoyed this new cozy mystery by Thea Cambert. I hope this is the beginning of a new series as I liked the characters and the community of St. Drogo.
Loved this book. Not sure if this is the start of a new series or a standalone but I'm hoping for series. The backdrop to the story is a typical small town where almost everyone has known you since birth. The characters are a vast array of personalities. Having a stationary store is a bit different than the popular bakery type setting. This book was well written and includes a unique recipe. A delightful read.
Olive rushes home when her father is hospitalized. Is he I'll or is something more sinister happening? The small town police force is in over their heads so she decides to do some investigating on her own.
When Olive Martin receives a call that her dad is sick in the hospital she rushes home to help temporary run her father’s stationary business. He has the same symptom as his partner who recently passed away.
She stumbles upon a cryptic message at the shop who her dad says that the partner wanted him to bring to the hospital but it was too late. Things seem suspicious as poison is found in the partner, will her dad be the next victim.
Delightful new cozy that will entertained you inner sleuth.
This was a fun little murder mystery that I'd been meaning to borrow from KU ever since it came out since I like any cozies this author's written. Her characters are always engaging and easily draw a person in when they're reading. I liked these characters so much I'd love to see her come up with a series for them sometime.
I was so wrong about whodunit, but it was a good surprise twist connecting the murder to another mystery. The ending was really sweet and made me wish I could read more about this cute little town and characters.
A well written short story that keeps you guessing. Fun characters that you can relate to. When she comes back to the island as her dad is in the hospital she finds someone has ransacked her father’s partner’s office. Then someone breaks into the store to go through her dad’s office. The plot thickens and has a surprise ending. A very fun read.
This was a really good story and great cozy mystery. Wish there was more in this series?. I loved the setting of a fine stationary store. It was described in loving detail. The mystery was really well written as well. The characters were very likeable.
I have read almost all of Thea Cambert’s books. My only “complaint” about this book is that it was too short. It ended too soon (haha). I enjoyed it and wanted more of the story. 😁
I enjoyed this so much. The characters are great. I am hoping there will be many more in this series. I look forward to seeing how the relationships develop.
This was a cute quick introduction to the series. I loved the stationary shop setting but this might be a little to cheesy even for me. I know cozies are suppose to be light and fun, but the police chief and his officers came across a little three stooges-ish for me. Some things left me with a few questions (like mentioning an estate was haunted but then that storyline never going any further).
I might give another one of the books in this series a shot at another time, but for now this one was just middle of the road for me in my opinion.
