Starting over is never easy, and when twenty-four year old Rina Sullivan arrives in Song, PA, her plan is to keep to herself, at least until the bruises fade.
The old house she inherited is in disrepair and nothing seems to be going her way, that is until she meets Jesse Singer, the local mechanic that keeps popping into her life just when she needs it most.
Trying to put her past and bad relationships behind her, Rina is determined to make it all on her own. No matter how hot and tempting Jesse is, what she really needs is a friend.
Singer’s Garage is not only a reliable and honest collision and repair shop, but Jesse is making a name for himself restoring classic vehicles. With a business to run and a brother to get through college, he shouldn’t be dedicating so much time to the woman that keeps crossing his path.
Jesse is more than willing to respect the friend boundary, but the more time they spend together the less certain he is of being able to keep his hands to himself.
Wrecked is the first standalone interconnected small town, blue collar romance in the Singer’s Garage series. Set in the fictional town of Song, PA, it contains sizzling intimate scenes with a HEA guarantee.
I loved how the H and h characters grew through out the story. I loved their honesty with each other. Even the Mandy incident was believable. It was a great read. Just one character I must have miss read - Betsy. At first I thought it said she was new in town and reserve but later on it said she was older and married. Perhaps I misread but still enjoyed the story.
QOTD: Have you ever seen a bear in the wild? My A: Nope! . I was in the mood for a steamy small town romance and this fit the bill perfectly! There was the perfect blend of swoon worthy gestures, laugh out loud side characters and a sweet friends to lovers love story to keep me engaged. I ended up binge reading this in one sitting with it at only 244 pages, it made the perfect day read! Helene Laval set up a fun community that already has me wanting to read book two set in the small town of Song, PA. I would’ve loved to see Rina grow and heal from her abusive ex and more time building up to owning her own business, but all in all, this was a great start to a series! . This is actually 3.5 for me. I liked the premise of this story and the main characters had a lot of potential. The author did a good job building out a small town universe without overdoing it on kitsch and quirky side characters. Still, this book read like a draft in progress more than a finished book. The bones of a great story are there, but everything felt a little surface. Rina's backstory needed to be built out a little more, as did the portions of the story where she finds her footing. This woman goes from abusive relationship to successful business-owner fiancee in the blink of an eye and with no real explanation. I also found it a little odd that Rina is supposed to be finding herself and building her own life after ceding total control to an abusive boyfriend, but then basically cedes total control of her working life and business decisions to her partner? Granted, Betsy isn't horrible and seems to have Rina's best interests at heart, but it still seemed weird to me that Rina just sort of shrugs and says "well, if you think we should do this big business expansion and I can sell cookies, then I guess I'm in!" As for the big finale action sequence, again, we're supposed to buy that Rina went from this meek wallflower to a badass chick totally capable of saving herself in a pretty insane situation. Was the badass in there all along? Maybe, but we don't see that. Did she become a badass along the way? Maybe, but we don't really see that either. Again, the whole thing needed to be fleshed out to go from pretty good to great.
Story was kind of sweet, but nothing to write home about imo.
Writing was more factual based than feeling based, which is what I look for in romance books. I needed more intimate moments between the two main characters for me to be invested - a beaten woman making life in a new town is going to need more time than three months to move on and heal, and a lot more encouraging encounters by friends to move forward.
A small nitpick as well, but we don't need the pov person's name above every single paragraph. If, for example, Jesse is narrating three paragraphs in a row, just put his name on the FIRST paragraph. Readers can deduce who's still talking without the name spammed. It would give more impact when we finally switch povs again and you see a new name.
wrecked: a steamy small town romance ( singer’s garage book 1)
Jess and Rina were two souls that struggle to find good relationships. They had complicated and painful previous relationships. The storyline was interesting and entertaining. I enjoyed reading about the other characters in the novel.
