She is a rarity among the ton: a young, unmarried, Countess. Ivy Kington, Countess of Everleigh, has come to terms with the fact that she will never be as memorable as the rest of her distinguished family. She has too much to do with her estate to dwell on it. When the arrival of the elusive Duke of Blakeburne sends the entire ton aflutter, she can’t imagine that she will have to face more than blank looks and spiteful remarks.
He is a rarity among the ton: a young, unmarried, Duke. Gabriel Eastham, Duke of Blakeburne, isn’t sure he prefers ballrooms to the battlefields he fought in. Now, the most dangerous thing he has to face is marriage-minded mamas. His own included. He has other ideas, however. And everybody knows that this Duke never deviates from his course. It is really inconvenient that he can’t go anywhere without covetous eyes following him or that a Countess refuses to leave his mind. He can’t imagine that his greatest battle will be against enemies lurking in the shadows. Or that they will not come for him.
It’s clear who will need to be saved. Isn’t it?
Saving You is the first book of the ‘Hidden in Plain Sight’ series. It is a standalone historical romance that will take you to Regency Britain, where an unexpected Heroine will turn an earnest Duke’s world upside down. There will be laughter, tears, and heat! Join their tumultuous journey to HEA.
Val Guildthorne was born and still lives in Italy (alas, far away from the sea and the Alps!). Her passion for reading started when she was very young, feeding her lively imagination. She voraciously read everything from thrillers to the classics of Italian literature until she discovered romance, in particular historical romance.
After a master’s degree in specialised translation and interpreting at the University of Bologna (aka Alma Mater Studiorium, the ‘Nourishing Mother of the Studies’, the oldest University in the world), she started working as a translator and interpreter. Her job, and her love for travelling, give her the opportunity to spend some time all over Europe, especially in the UK and in Germany.
When translating other people’s words wasn’t enough anymore, on the advice of her wise cat, she decided to follow her dream of bringing to life those stories that have always been there, in the back of her mind.
I just couldn’t get into this at all. I liked the outline of the plot and was excited to read it but did not find the characters drew me in at all. I found myself skipping pages hoping something would happen. The central premise , that Ivy was overlooked by everyone , was not consistently dealt with either. She seemed a pleasant friendly girl and the Duke did like her straight away. DNF at 30% as could not care what happened to them…
Hello hello! This is obviously not a review but rather a chance to thank all of you who took/is taking/will take the time to read my debut novel.
Meet Ivy and Gabriel, or better yet, the Countess of Everleigh and the Duke of Blakeburne. A perfect match. Until it wasn’t. And then it was. Then it wasn’t…
My wish is that, by the end of the book, you will feel the same sense of kinship with Ivy and Gabriel I felt while their story took form.
