She is the girl who got away. He seems all too familiar. Could the man behind the beast be her cowboy in disguise?
Sky
I’m back in town licking my wounds after losing my job in Dallas. Only I haven’t told my parents yet. They think I’m in town just visiting.
When I run into the man everyone calls The Beast, I can’t shake the feeling that I know him from somewhere, even if his long hair, beard, and scar make it impossible to figure out where.
It’s only proper Walker Lake ranching tradition to say hello to your neighbors, so I take him to dinner. I never thought I’d get a job offer out of the deal.
And I never would have guessed the true identity of this growly beast.
Dash
I find it amusing that Sky doesn’t recognize me, but I guess that’s the whole point.
After my military time, I came home to take over the family ranch.
With Sky gone in Dallas, the ranch was my sole focus until I ran into her again.
With her around, I start to feel human again, and I want people to see me.
When she finally figures out who I am, will she still want me?
The Cowboy and His Beauty is a Beauty and The Beast Retelling set on a ranch with a cowboy who is home from the military. There is tons of small town goodness, quirky characters, a town pet horse, and a little drama and suspense along the way. As always there are your favorite steamy bits, no cheating, and always a Happily Ever After.
Second chances are not always as they seem! Back in her home town where she is most definitely wanting to be, yet her parents expect more of her, always more! She meets a rugged cowboy who she feels connected to, yet things aren't as they seem, she takes a job from him. The chance meets, opposites attract (or are they opposites?), and dealing with her parents are obstacles. Beautiful story about two people who find themselves attracted to each other. Can she forgive, and open her ❤️ heart?
3.5 STARS A second chance with the highschool sweetheart who got away…
Sky is headed home to Walker Lake after quitting her job in Dallas and ending the lease on her apartment. Her life is packed into a storage container a couple of towns over, and she has a week to build up the courage to tell her parents that she’s jobless and homeless. Being back in Walker Lake is like hitting reset after her time in Dallas, and it makes her realise that he true home is her hometown. All she has to do is figure out what she wants to do with her life. And then she meets ‘The Beast’, a mysterious and quiet rancher who has taken over the ranch that belonged to her highschool sweetheart Corey’s parents. Sky can’t shake the feeling that she recognises this bearded stranger, and makes an effort to show some Walker Lake hospitality that he’s clearly missed out on since arriving. The last thing she expects is for Dash to offer her a job cooking and cleaning, and the above-garage apartment. But even more-so, she doesn’t expect that once Dash takes the step to finally cut his hair, shave his beard and expose his scar, that he’s actually the guy who broke her heart eight years earlier when he enlisted in the military.
Spoiler alert: she’s entering her yeehaw era!
I read the synopsis of the second book in this series and knew I just had to read it, but being the good companion novel series reader, I held off on temptation to start with book two, and I’m glad did! Kaci has always been on my radar but I hadn’t picked up any of her books, so I wasn’t really know what to expect from her. Her writing style is really enjoyable and I quickly felt like I was in Walker Lake and surround by all these interesting small-town characters.
Second-chance romances are always really fun, and Kaci crafted a really sweet one with Dash and Sky. Because they originally ended their relationship on somewhat mutual terms, it was easy for them to fall back into a relationship as they relived memories from their teen years and caught up on the last eight years of each other’s lives. It was sweet, a little bit swoony, and a little bit spicy, which is always a banging combination.
Obviously, this series is part of a bigger Kaciverse, with mentions of previous characters and relationships in the two earlier series. It’s definitely not necessary to have read those series before this one, but I do feel like I would have enjoyed and appreciated the namedrops more if I actually knew the characters. But that just means I now get to go back and read about all these characters I’ve heard snippets about!
I find it interesting that this is touted as a Beauty and the Beast retelling, because while I can kind of see the vibes, at no point during the book did I even think I was reading something inspired by Beauty and the Beast. If you’re coming into this thinking you’re going to be reading a cowboy version of the beloved fairy tale, I feel like you’re going to be a little disappointed.
The story definitely could have benefited from being a little longer. I really wanted to see more exploration of Dash’s time in the military - he was obviously injured and was no longer going by Corey upon his return, so I wanted to see those conversations with Sky since she would obviously have questions. It’s clear that Kaci glossed over the nitty gritty of such a topic by saying that the characters discussed what had happened over the past eight years in both their lives, but Dash’s time in the military and his anonymous return to Walker Lake are an important element in the story and his reconnection with Sky. It just would have been nice to add that extra depth to the story.
If you’re ready to take a ride on the wild side and fall in love on a ranch, this is the place to start!
Corey and Sky were high school sweethearts even though her parents didn't approve. Their town was divided between the rich lake people like Sky and her family and the ranchers like Corey and his family. Corey broke Sky's heart when he broke things up with her after high school and joined the military. Sky went to college and took the job that her parents arranged for her even though she hated it. She was working for a startup company that was on its way to failing. Her boss was demanding that she work more hours for less pay so Sky quit. She is on her way back home for a vacation but she doesn't want to tell her parents what a failure she has become. On her first day back she meets the man called Beast in the grocery store. He seems familiar to her but she doesn't recognize him. She decides to cook him a Welcome to town dinner. Her beast is called Dash and he has long hair and long beard with a scarred face. He seems very kind and friendly and gives Sky a job helping at the ranch so she can take her time deciding what to do next.
Dash is actually her old boyfriend Corey. The military has changed him so much that people don't recognize him. He hates the way they look at his scarred face. He broke up with Sky because he felt unworthy of her. He never forgot her and he promises himself that if he ever got a second chance he would take it. When Sky returns to town, he is surprised that she doesn't recognize him. He decides to try to make things work but he doesn't want her to feel sorry for him. So he keeps calling himself Dash, his nickname from the military. Kissing her without her know who he really is seems wrong though.

This first book in the series was also this reader’s introduction to the author. Years ago, Sky and Dash/Corey, were HS sweethearts. When he left her behind to join the military, she was devastated. Even after leaving town for college and later working in Dallas, she never forgot the boy that even though he left her heartbroken, she still thinks about. Dash is back in his family’s ranch after his years in the military. He’s a different man with physical and psychological. Memories of Sky kept him going all those years he was away. To cover his scar and his identity, he hides behind his long hair and beard. Unaware of his true identity, the town nicknames him “Beast”. Sky has left Dallas, resigned from her job and has returned to the place she always loved. When Sky “meets” the Beast, she doesn’t recognize the man to be Corey, though she feels she has met him before. Realization doesn’t occur until she starts working for him. Can these two get a second chance in life and love? Or will the past and her parents keep them apart? This was a sweet and touching story . The one draw back was the fact that if like me the readers have not read previous books by the author, the large cast of secondary characters who had their stories in previous books, made this new reader feel a tad lost on who was who. Thus the rating of 4 stars instead of 5. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Booksprout. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Start of new series, good solid characters and storyline I enjoyed reading I very much enjoyed this the first book in the series I enjoyed the interactions between the various character, Sky and Dash and Corey who had all been in a relationship in their past and when Sky had been left behind when they moved on with their military career she had been deeply hurt.
Dash has returned to his family ranch and is not the same man he was, sky has resigned her job and moved back to the only place she has ever loved and when she first sees the man the town has nicknamed “The Beast” she is unaware it is Corey. As she starts working for him she realises who he is and they have a chance at new love and a new life, it will not ne easy but them those things most wanted never are.
I loved the story and the way it had been written and I am sure that other readers will be equally as enamoured as myself.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Sky grew up in a lake house in Walker Lake, Texas. However, her best friends are from the cowboy side of town. Her parents are more concerned about appearances than their daughter. Her parents think she is home for vacation for a week. In reality, Sky quit her job. She was working for a tech start up in Dallas but they kept cutting her pay but still wanted her to work full time hours. The company is going under so Sky quit. Her parents won’t care why she quit, they will just be disappointed they can’t brag about Sky working for the big-time tech guy. She runs to the store for dinner supplies and run into a cowboy she doesn’t recognize. He has a long scar down the side of his face which is covered with a thick beard. When he grabs her to steady her, she feels sparks that she hasn’t felt since she was with her high school boyfriend, Corey.
Dash Michaels is surprised that Sky doesn’t recognize him but he understands that he looks different with the longer hair, beard and scar. It is Corey. He went into the military and now goes by his military nickname Dash. He had not seen Sky since he left for boot camp.
Sky and Dash were both hesitant about renewing their feelings. It was cute watching them decide what they wanted to do.
Returning To Their Destined Life - Sky felt a connection with Dash that she just couldn’t explain and what threw her, was the fact she experienced the same feelings she had with her high school boyfriend, who broke her heart. Spending time together brought them closer, which helped the rekindled their relationship. Unfortunately, their path to happiness didn’t run smooth as Sky discovered the secret her parents had kept from her about Dash’s departure from her life.
This story had so much pain and regret, but also had hope and healing. My heart broke with each page turn, with the life Dash was living since his return and the life Sky had endured away from home. However, what really got to me, was the way Sky stood up for Dash even before she realised who he was and also to her parents unconditionally, no matter the consequences. This was a really moving story, that had my emotions running all over the place, but I was really happy by the time I reached the end. This book deserves a high recommendation.

Sky and Dash's (Corey) story is second change tale that breaks your heart and has you melting at the same time.
Sky and Corey were high school sweethearts, when he joined the military, Corey broke it off with Sky. Eight years later, Corey has returned as Dash and Sky has returned from the big city after leaving her job and wanting more.
After meeting in town Sky wanted to know more about the man they called "The Beast", she wants to know more. When he offers her a job, she takes it only to find out who he is.
This is a great story with the ups and down that steals your heart. The preadjust of her parent demands compared to what she wants. When Sky finds out what they did back in high school, Sky leaves to regroups and when she comes back she does what she wants.
This is an amazing love story that pulled me in from the start and kept me with each turn of the page. Love Sky's strength and Dash's love.

One thing I can definitely expect f/a Kaci Rose book is that I’m going to love it! I’m always instantly grabbed & I’m never ready for them to end. She became one of my favorite authors when I first discovered her last year & I’m always excited to read anything she writes. After losing her job, Sky returns home to Walker Lake to figure out what she wants to do next. As soon as she arrives she runs into a guy who she has a sense of familiarity w/but she doesn’t recognize him. She has absolutely no idea that this guy is her ex, her first love, & the guy who broke her heart after HS graduation to join the military. Dash (AKA Corey) & Sky were high school sweethearts, who had everything planned out for after graduation. Until Dash destroyed that plan & broke up w/her to join the military. Now years later both are back in WalkerLake & the feeling & chemistry is still as strong as it ever was. The Cowboy & His Beauty, is a must read second chance romance.
I liked the story of Sky and Dash in 'The Cowboy and his Beauty ' by Kaci M. Rose. It is the bittersweet reunion of a man and his sweetheart after being separated for years. It is about regret for decisions made that the man wishes he had never done by leaving his girlfriend to go off and join the military and telling her not to wait for him. Years later, he is back in town scarred and hidden behind a beard and long hair without telling anyone who he really is. His former girlfriend comes back for a visit and immediately senses something familiar and mysterious about the loner everyone calls "beast". The attraction to one another is undeniable and irresistible.

Sky returns home, having packed up everything she had in Dallas, unhappy about her life there. Her stumbling into a stranger in the local store, sparks her interest. He seems familiar but no one knows much about the reclusive man and rancher, and from his appearance he is nicknamed The Beast. She hasn't recognized her ex, Corey, the boy, now man she hasn't forgotten and he hasn't forgotten her. There are several issues here, but once he reveals himself the relationship is rekindled. Lots to think about and plenty of plain speaking required, especially involving her parents before they are going to get their HEA Love this author.

Once I started reading, I did not want to stop. Our heroine returns home because she lost her job and gave up her apartment. Her parents are all about appearances and she is hesitant to tell them anything. During a run to the store, she encounters the town recluse, and they share 'sparks'. Our hero is a wounded military hero who is sort of hiding from life and is surprised that someone he has 'just met' is willing to defend him. When she shows up to fix him dinner, he decides to offer her a job and a place to live. There are several twists to this story, and I loved all the characters that were involved in the telling. I really want to read the next story in this new series by Ms. Rose.

Sky has returned home, the startup company where she worked, courtesy of her parents, became bankrupt. She hadn't liked it anyway. Dash has changed a lot since he went into the military, he relishes the quiet of the ranch. Sky bumps into a man at the grocers, he seems familiar, but she can't work out why or how. Then he offers her a job at her high-school boyfriend's ranch. As she's intrigued by him and the sparks he seems to send her, she goes. Will their secrets cause problems?

The Cowboy and his Beauty is book 1 in the Walker Lake series by Kaci M Rose and a great start to this series.
Sky and Corey/Dash were high school sweethearts and looking forward to spending their lives together until Corey suddenly decided they didn’t belong together and enlisted in the military. Now years later Corey returns to Walker Lake but a different man and goes by the name of Dash..when Sky accidentally runs into him she doesn’t recognize him as everyone calls him the Beast..
Second chances, secrets, chemistry, heartaches, passion and hopefully finding their HEA!
It’s a pretty quick read, but a very interesting read. The descriptions of the characters is well written to the point you understand why they did what they did. Your mind might like it, but your heart won’t but never give up. Second chances are for everybody and that’s exactly What Fash and Sky got. It was a really interesting way how they got back together. It was a long time coming and it was pretty frightening to find out who really caused their separation. Doing the wrong saying or what you think is the right reason is still the wrong thing. But it didn’t stop Dash and Sky from finding each other. had a really good happily ever after.
Dash ( aka Corey) left Sky broken-hearted when he left town and joined the military. After leaving the military, he goes back to his small town but he’s hiding as best as he can. Sky’s been living her life, but she’s never forgotten the boy who stole and later broke her heart. Now she’s back in her hometown. She and Dash get closer but Can these two get a second chance at true happiness? This is a sweet and endearing story.

This was a fantastic second chance romance. It was the first book in the Walker Lake, Texas series and it’s off to a great start. It had the same feel to it as the Rock Springs, Texas series and some of the characters from that series appeared in this book. This book focused on Sky and Dash. And their story was such a sweet one. I loved their chemistry. I really enjoyed the story and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Sky grew up in Walker Lake TX and was glad to put Dallas behind her. Her high school boyfriend Corey left to join the military, and she never quite got over him. Now to explain to her cold parents that she has no job and no place to live.
A rough-looking, scarred man townsfolk call ‘the beast’ gives her a chance at a ranch job that comes with housing. An enjoyable second chance romance with the requisite small town goodness and challenges.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. Corey and Sky were young and in love once. When he left for the military, they were both heartbroken even though he made the choice. They are both back home and picking up the pieces of their lives. When they meet, that chemistry and attraction is still there, but Sky doesn't connect Dash with Corey. Their second chance at romance has heartache, frustration and secrets but also some laughs, friendship, passion and love. It was a good story with great characters that were good for each other
This was a bittersweet story about a second chance at love. Sky returned home feeling defeated to parents that were self absorbed and focused on appearances. She meets Dash, someone the who town calls a beast. She is drawn to him and doesn't know why, not realizing she knows him well. Dash is scarred and grumpy, happy to be alone on his ranch. These two were meant to be and I loved the chemistry and fireworks between them. Lots of heartwarming moments and a good HEA.

What a great second chance story. Sky is always trying to please her parents. She has quit her job and moved home, but didn’t tell them she quit. She gets a job at a nearby ranch that her former boyfriend’s family owned because she feels a connection with the “new owner”, Dash. Only yo find out Dash is her ex! It is played out very well. All of the secrets of the past come to light and Sky finds her happiness by standing up for herself. Great story!.

Sky and Corey/Dash have been through a lot in their short lives. Most if not all the problems start with Sky's parents and them sticking their noses where they are not needed or wanted. Sky is hurt the most and ends up winning the most despite her parents. Dash has been hurt and is still hurting and not letting anyone in because of what he went through. Another great hit by Kaci M. Rose.

Returning home is all Sky wants but returning after quitting her job isn't going to please her parents who are hyper-aware of appearances so when she is offered a job that gets her out of their house she takes it. I can't get enough of Walker Lake. Ms. Rose brings the heart with the heat every time. I love their picnic and their diner date.

This was a really sweet second chance romance that will have so swooning. Dash and Sky were really cute together. I really enjoyed that Dash and Sky got to know each other as they are now instead of just going off their feelings from high school. There is a little bit of drama but Dash is not willing to let his future go again. I can't wait for Josh's book next.

The Cowboy and His Beauty is a second chance charming romance story. I enjoyed the connection this book has to other books by Kaci Rose. The scarred hero gets a second chance with his first love. She gets to learn the truths behind him leaving.
Kaci Rose is a wonderful author. I am looking forward to the additional stories in the Walker Lake, Texas series.

Lovely! This is such a lovely second chance! The characters meet again and recognize each other... It's a slow burn as love rises again. The whole small town vibe is just amazing. A story about family, love, and friendship. Although it costs a bit to retain so many names from other stories, at the same time it makes you want to go to the other books to learn about them.

Such an unexpected storyline filled with personable characters who work their way into you heart and don’t let go. I loved how Sky was able to follow her heart after being so unhappy. Dash knew what he wanted, I loved how he went about achieving it. This book will keep you turning pages through to the end, you won’t be disappointed.

After loosing her job Sky returns to Walkers Lake, hoping to restart her life. When she meets the Beast, she feels like she knows him but just can't work out how! Dash has returned from the war scarred and damaged...But spending time with the woman he once cared for makes him feel alive for the first since he's been back. I LOVED this story and would love to read more like this!!!!.

Sky is back home with a new job when she runs into Dash, he seems familiar but she can't place him. Dash has changed alot due to his military years, but when he sees Sky after all this time, he doesnt know how to feel that she doesnt remember him but could their ever be a second chance? Well written a twist on the beauty and beast story, steamy scenes desires and more.
