I find this a very difficult review to write. I enjoyed the first book in this series so much. I loved the whole moral dilemma that was woven into it. My heart ached and hurt. And I was so proud of Eva while reading the book.
The first book ends with Eva, now called Angela, going back to earth to find the two missing members of the ring. It starts immediately with her being on earth in a rural area. A woman called Jane passes her, offers to take her to town, and eventually even offers her a place to stay.
And that is where Angela's journey starts. She is trying to follow her heart, instinct and does everything she can to find the two missing members.
But I must admit, I wasn't really invested in her journey on earth. This second book feels so different from the first. The first was fast paced, had me on the edge of my seat - and I was so curious after what the in-between all meant.
The second book is quite slow. And it felt a little.. woolly? I had a hard time connecting and understanding her actions, and her talks with Thomas felt so far away.
I missed that fast paced edge. I missed the mystery and the throbbing in my veins.
SPOILER ALERT!
Even when she reunites with Luke. I didn't feel it. And when she has to make the choice to take him with her, or leave him behind. I didn't feel that. While in the first book my heart broke when she had to make a similar choice regarding Luke.
I think the huge difference in how the book feels, left me a little disappointed. I ached for pain, hardship and difficult choices. This book lacked that a little bit.
But overall, I truly loved the first one. And even though it took me a while longer to read this one. I am still curious to read the third one. I hope the third one will have the same magic as the first book. And the same pace.
So 3 stars from me!
