I have a special fondness for Captain Joe and his inspirational YouTube videos. He helped me achieve my goals of becoming a pilot and I learned so much from him, which was a reason enough for me to read his first book. I thought his would be more aviation-oriented but I found here a collection of well-worn, all too common self-help recommendations, which was quite a disappointment for me. Ok, he has some good points and advices but I expected more from him. Well done Joe but please stick to the videos!!
Quickest I've ever finished a book so very happy about that. This was a gift from my good friend Maddy and I'm very grateful as she said she'd absolutely loved it and it'd helped her become a better version of herself so I was very touched when she gifted this to me. I normally don't enjoy self-help books because often they wreak of casual narcissism and serve more to stroke the author's ego rather than actually help anyone. Which I think he says something about that at the start so he knows the feeling. But I didn't find that with this book at all, it's a very easy read (in a good and practical way, he doesn't overcomplicate things to make himself seem smarter or more capable, it's straightforward, he says what he means and means what he says) and so it makes it far more effective and although I found myself realising I already do a lot of the things in the book it gave me a lot of stuff to try and some stuff to bring back that I've stopped doing over the years. Very good read, great gift and I do believe that it would've helped a lot of people with bettering themselves too. Plus I've seen some of his content online over the years and really enjoyed it.
This is a nice inspirational book. Every chapter has a checklist of things you can do to improve yourself and do something better. The only thing I'm not really fond of is the extra emphasis (typical of inspirational books by the way) on the need to work more, work hard, having success etc. Also, the book suggest to make a lot of lists and plan everything you want to do. It seems like a chain to me. But other than that is full of nice tips and info, like how to have a better sleep, eat healthy and so on. Captain Joe also has a stunning YouTube channel about aviation.

"Read and Do! - 100 Checklists to Become a Better Version of Yourself" by Joe (Captain Joe) is an extraordinary guide that delivers exactly what it promises. The book’s 100 checklists are not just simple to-do lists; they are genuinely thought-provoking and inspirational tools that push you to reflect on your current self and identify areas where change could lead to significant improvement.
Having had the privilege of meeting Joe at various events and discussing careers and personal growth with him, I can confidently say that his insights are invaluable. This book is a testament to his deep understanding of personal development and his commitment to helping others become their best selves.
The essence of this book is about seizing those moments when you find yourself wasting time on unnecessary activities and redirecting that energy into meaningful action. The checklists serve as a powerful reminder to take charge of your life in the same disciplined manner that pilots use their checklists—methodically and with purpose. The title says it all: READ AND DO.
Joe has been a significant influence in my life, both during my early career as a student and now in my professional and personal life. I consider him one of my greatest role models, and the wisdom he has imparted to me is something I value deeply. Writing this review is just a small way to express my gratitude for all that he has taught me. This book is more than just a collection of checklists; it’s a roadmap to personal excellence, and I highly recommend it to anyone serious about self-improvement.
