In LEFT TO DIE (AN ADELE SHARP MYSTERY—BOOK 1), FBI special agent Adele Sharp is a German-and-French raised American with triple citizenship—and an invaluable asset in bringing criminals to justice as they cross American and European borders. When a serial killer case spanning three U.S. states goes cold, Adele returns to San Francisco and to the man she hopes to marry. But after a shocking twist, a new lead surfaces and Adele is dispatched to Paris, to lead an international manhunt. Adele returns to the Europe of her childhood, where familiar Parisian streets, old friends from the DGSI and her estranged father reignite her dormant obsession with solving her own mother’s murder. All the while she must hunt down the diabolical killer, must enter the dark canals of his psychotic mind to know where he will strike next—and save the next victim before it’s too late.
In GIRL, ALONE (AN ELLA DARK FBI SUSPENSE THRILLER—BOOK 1), FBI Agent Ella Dark, 29, is given her big chance to achieve her life’s dream: to join the Behavioral Crimes Unit. Ella’s hidden obsession of gaining an encyclopedic knowledge of serial killers has led to her being singled out for her brilliant mind, and invited to join the big leagues. But face to face with a real murder, a real killer, and a real ticking clock, Ella realizes she can’t rely on her knowledge. She must learn to trust her instinct, and allow herself to enter the dark canals of a real killer’s mind. If she gets it wrong, her career is at stake. And so is the next victim’s life. Will Ella’s talent be an asset? Or the source of her downfall?

Clearly, by creating a favored author bookshelf for Blake Pierce that should signal that I like the guy. More importantly, it should signal that the author has gotten me interested in the work, psychological thrillers that catch you up in a tornado of dark mysteries that usually revolve around female investigators that are contending with psychotic, serial killers sweeping the reader up in thrill-rides of engaging suspense and heart-pounding danger.
In this FBI Mystery Bundle, Pierce includes two series starter novels. The first, Left to Die, involves the unique FBI special agent Adele Sharp who has a triple citizenship with not just the United States, but Germany and France, as well. Consequently, when a serial murderer attempts to leave the United States to evade capture, Sharp is qualified to pursue him throughout Europe and her dogged instincts make her so avidly single-minded that she leaves the detritus of her passing along with what already has been a life too focused on career and too littered with the dregs of a failed personal life.
In Girl, Alone, FBI agent Ella Dark is given an opportunity to join the Behavioral Crimes Unit because she voices an off-hand observation to a person at the gun range. It turns out that the keenness of thought grabs the attention of a supervisor that wants to add her to his division. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of serial killers of the past and her recall gives her an advantage in analysis of crime scenes. Yet, facing her first case, the gore is real and she realizes that looking at pictures is a whole lot different than the actual tactile sensations, smells, and sounds of true crime.
Again, I was caught up in these stories with very real and impressive characters, a narrative that is consuming, interesting, and ultimately hopeful, and a setting that pops. The mood is gritty and dark, as you would expect with the seedy underbelly of crime stories involving serial murders. Five stars because you get 2 novels for the price of one and did I forget to mention that these are free?
This book/author is not for me. I struggled through because it had such good ratings, but way too graphic, detailed on the murders, gruesome and just slow and not interesting to me.
Ok so the first book LEFT TO DIE was ok, it dragged a bit but it did pick up. Now GIRL,ALONE that had me hooked at page 1. I loved Ella and Ripley and can’t wait to read more of her journey. If you’re obsessed with serial killers line I am you’ll definitely love GIRL,ALONE.
