After ten months of being alone on his moor, Lorne Turner receives a panicked call.
He needs to rescue some teenagers from an act of stupidity. Nice and simple. Fast rope down to a cave entrance, see if they are still alive, and get them out. Piece of carrot cake for an ex-operator.
When Ella Morgan is also ‘roped’ into helping, Lorne begins to understand the importance of friendship outside the military.
The pair descend into the cave complex and that’s when Lorne realises the dead don’t always whisper.
Sometimes the dead scream!
This short novella takes place before Counting Crows and gives us an insight into how Lorne and Ella first begin their friendship.
It is a return to the prolific writer that is Joe Talon and a prequel that allows us to finally discover how former soldier, Lorne Turner, met soon to be newly installed vicar, Ella Morgan.
It is a tight short story…littered with snippets about Turner’s past and where he may have first tasted the frightening supernatural that hangs over his life…
A group of teens have got stranded in caves…the storm is brewing and the rescue services are struggling to get there in time. Turner is sent down with firebrand Ella and in the darkness they face so many fears…and what is in the dark ? Or perhaps…what is the dark would be a more accurate question ?
With lives at stake and Turner’s PTSD threatening to unleash the beast within…so many battles are fought across the cave and across time.
We discover more about what happened to Turner in Syria and the horrible price he continues to pay to this day.
One of my new favourite authors…with unnerving stories…brilliantly real people and plots that grab you and won’t let go…even if you want it to.
Shirt and sweet ir should I say hair raising? Lorne received a call from a friend to help find some teenagers. They need an experienced climber to go look for them in a sea cave. Ella, a priest, also a climber partners with him. They find the kids but also something else… something old and not happy… Loved this short story. I’ve became a fast fan of Joe Tallon after reading Counting Crows and I intend to read all his books.
Excellent Novella well worth the read. I enjoy supernatural books but these have a bit more about them as Lorne Turners history comes to life. Will definitely be reading the rest in the series. Thanks Joe Talon
Turner is amazing person as I see. I want come rescuing me in my time of trouble. He knows how to look for the ones who needs them. I got my support 100. I will be adding this book to my book collection of favorites. Iler.
I love this how this explained the relationship between Lorne and Ella. It gives great insight to the characters and their friendship. Joe Talon is an author I will definitely be following!
A Meeting of Terrors is a quick, fast-paced novella that kept me reading straight through without pause. I'm eager to get my hands on more of Joe Talon's work.
I truly enjoyed the mix of realism and supernatural in this story. The plot was great and the characters even better. The horror was understated, which I prefer to gore for gore's sake any day.
