Lady Amelia Chastain knew most men weren’t to be trusted. And Lord Simon Davenport was at the top of that list. Handsome, rich, and a rake, the man was too arrogant, too … confident for his own good. What made it even worse was that he stood between her and her dreams.
Confronting him was both worrisome and challenging. But at the same time, exciting and fulfilling.
Lord Simon Davenport never intended to marry but it was becoming evident that a partner, a hostess, a mother to his children, might be beneficial. But if he was to marry then it wouldn’t be an empty-headed ninny. No, it would be someone like Amelia Chastain, intelligent, beautiful, and stubborn. Someone who could help him navigate the social structure of London. Unfortunately, the woman despised him.
Really, there was but one solution, seduce her. Make her fall in love with him. Only then could he ensure he controlled the levers of power within the marriage. Of course, he must do so without losing his own heart.
I read this book through to the end because the story was engaging and the characters delightful. The story was well-woven and continued to make me want to know what would happen next. My only criticism, and it is substantial, is that the entire book needs a good editing, from start to finish. So many typos, dropped and missing words, wrong names, and other issues. A solid copy editor would have taken care of all this and brought up the rating to five stars.
Wow, what an Intriguing and fun story ! I would recommended reading book one first. "Deal with the Duke". It will give you history into the family and its members. Lady Amelia Chastain has learned no men are to be trusted, as she is different from most Ladies of the ton, she has decided she will not marry. She will never surrender her independence to man. She has her studies and a book she has worked on forever. Flowers will never let you down. The man on the top of her list of marriageable men is Lord Simon Davenport. He is arrogant, rich, a rogue and handsome as sin. Lord Simon Davenport never intended to marry. He is the second son of a Duke and has an older and younger brother. Unfortunately, he has come to see where a wife might be helpful. He will need a hostess, a partner and if he has children them a mother for them. She would have to be Beautiful, Intelligent, know and understand the ways of society. He could never stand for any of the young, dumb witted ladies just out of the school room. The only Lady he knows that has everything he wants also happens to hate him. Oh Brother. As these two try to figure out who the other really is and what is just ton talk. Her brother Thomas and his brother Noah and his wife Elizabeth with the younger girls all help out. I knew that something bad was going to happen when the professor showed up and so will you. He adds more to the mystery and twist and turns of the story. There is so many mistakes, secrets and miss understanding in this very emotional story, it's great. Will keep you reading thru to the end. This is a steamy story, for those who like to know. I can't wait for the next book where I will be staying up all night to read it... I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her, this is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.
Lady Amelia Chastain is an independent woman and a brilliant botanist who never intends to get married and let any man tell her what to do. She is a woman who won't be subservient to anyone. Lord Simon Davenport has the reputation of being a rake, mainly because he's so handsome and appears to have every woman's attention. Amelia knows that she's attracted to him, but that's as far as it goes, well, as far as she'll let it go. What she doesn't know is that he's one of the kindest and most helpful men in the entire city with all of the good things he does to help other people live their best life. Simon was so attracted to Amelia...her mind, her beauty and her heart made him see what a perfect match they were for each other. He has to have her in his life, so he sets out to seduce her, but his plans go awry when it turns out that she's seducing him. This is a clever and sexy story that is only marred by Amelia's overwrought petulance. She fights this man who she loves, and who loves her, because she created her own narrative of what Simon expects of a wife. She freaked out when he told her he loves her and she ran because she thought he wanted to control her, which doesn't fit with her character through the whole book. With that caveat, I have to say that it was an extremely well-written plot with richly described characters who brought the story to life. The narration was nicely done by Sloan Oliver. She had a well-modulated voice, natural pace and lovely accent; however, there was an interminable wait between chapters that pulled me out of the story. It seemed as if she had a countdown before she started to speak at every chapter break. Other than that, it was an excellent story and narration.
“Seduced by a British Lord” is the second book in ‘The Davenports’, by G.L. Snodgrass. This book can be read as a standalone.
Amelia was born into the aristocracy, but she has no patience for it. She’s intelligent, has an interest in a particular type of science, and wants to be an independent woman who can pursue those interests freely. Simon enjoys his indulgent life as the second of three sons of a Duke. Just like Amelia, he has no intention of ever getting married. Until he does … and set his sights on her. He knows she’s not interested in getting married at all, particularly to him. He concocts an elaborate plan to get close to her and seduce her into changing her mind.
This story was a little bit crazy and a lot of fun. There was irony in the fact that the handsome rake was the one who wanted to be married, and the one woman he wanted was the one who wasn’t interested in him at all. I liked the way he understood her and appealed to her scientific mind. They both need to let go of their preconceived notions about one another, and about marriage itself. The steamy chemistry between them definitely helps his cause. I enjoyed the book, thought the dialogue was particularly well-written, and liked the ending.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I also purchased a copy on Amazon.
This was quite an interesting situation put forth in this story line. Lady Amelia Chastain was intelligent and not interested in marriage or giving up what was important to her for a man’s ego. Lord Simon Davenport was a prime example of that nonsense with his arrogant ways. But Lord Simon began to realize that he needed a female partner to manage his household and care for his children. He valued intelligence, beauty, and even the stubborn quality he saw in Amelia since it would allow her to help him deal with the social structure of London.
Since Lord Simon knew Amelia disliked him, he figured he would simply seduce her into loving him which would give him all of the power in their marriage. With such delusions, the reader can already see the road ahead for this man when he tries to get the best of an intelligent and strong female. He won’t even see it coming…
It’s always fun to see these normally structured relationships go outside of the “norm”. You never know what the repercussions will be as the roles we expect move in different directions. But you know there will be some drastic changes, and the crazy fun getting there pulls me right into the story. Grab your copy and watch it all play out!
Although Seduced by a British Lord had an interesting beginning, it only took several more chapters for this read to become boring and annoying. Don't get me wrong, G.L. Snodgrass is a good writer, and I have read and enjoyed many of this author's works, but I had a hard time finishing this book.
At first I liked the heroine, until she made a number of questionable choices, which were all at odds with her supposed superior intelligence. From the start, I did not find the hero very likable, and his arrogant manipulating plan only put him on a lower like-rung.
An then there were the pages and pages of sex. More sex than plot.
Thankfully, the last chapter and the epilogue were both happy and smile-worthy.
Content 411: Although there is only a small amount of secular and religious swearing, there are multiple pages of detailed sex.

Simon thought Amelia was annoying until she offers him a scandalous bet in order to get something back that her brother lost to him and he discovers she has hidden depths. Simon came off as a carefree rakish younger son, but he has a serious side and plenty of commitments that keep him busy and his family flush. He comes up with a plan to take her reckless brother under his wing to get close to Amelia so he can seduce her into marrying him. I thought she was kind of reckless with the whole it's not the right time of the month so we don't need condoms explanation. She was also foolish about her book. I was surprised by names in this book as I thought second sons of Dukes usually went by honorary titles of Lord and then first name and that unmarried daughters of earls were just Lady and their first name.
Lord Simon Davenport who was happy with his rakish ways never intended to marry until he took notice of Amelia Chastain. He discovered that he was enjoying the sparring of words they shared and it made him feel alive. He began seeing Amelia, stubborn yet intelligent and beautiful as someone he could spend the rest of life with and never would there be a dull moment. He just had to convince this independent, head strong women of that fact. So he decided to seduce her. He used her inquisitive mind to his favor and the courtship began. The story was funny and I enjoyed the way the two interacted trying to be one up on the other. Very entertaining and well written.
I was given an advance copy of this ARC review and am giving my honest opinion.

It's a mix of manipulation and honorable intentions. He knows that he can't win her using traditional methods. He pulls out all the stops and with every victory he realizes the importance of the stakes. Then he botches it. Then he has to figure out how to live without her. Honestly, there are enough hints that he should have confessed his love for her early on. She was the first person he sought out his whole life. And when it came time for them to fall in love and marry; she was the first person he sought out. She rejected him and crushed him. Creating friction but he'd still rather have friction from her than the adoration of another woman. This is all subtext and that's why I'm only giving it three stars.
A time when women felt like chattel unless they were truly loved by their husband
Amelia is an intelligent educated woman determined to be independent and live life on her own terms. When she got to know Simon she was almost persuaded into marriage until a few words not taken the way they were intended brought that to an end. I could relate to Amelia knowing how women were expected to behave during this time in history. Simon's methods of handling business dealing and relationships with other members of the ton didn't work when courting a woman. It was an interesting story line as well as insight into life in the ton.
I absolutely loved Simon and Amelias story. She never wanting to marry, to never have to be beholding to anyone. He a wealthy lord who wants to know why Lady Chastain hates him so much. Can two people with different ambitions actually find love with each other. Another wonderful book with a beautiful ending.
Amelia and Simon had been enemies or several years, oil and vinegar. Then a situation occurred with her brother and Amelia confronted Simon demanding he fix the problem. This sets up a series of events that allow love to grow. Though it is not an easy road but will keep you Turing the pages. There is a little steam but well done. Enjoy!
This book was a awesome read. I just loved the chemistry between the two characters. Finding true love is a blessing. Can't wait for Duncan's story. A definite must read series.📚😍📚😍📚😍📚
I have to admit that I’m a bit in love with Simon myself. This is a simple story with a fairly predictable ending but the characters are so likable that it is totally worth reading.
I enjoyed the story much more than the first novel a deal with a duke .Characters were much more believable and I did enjoy simon. Just started book 3 and got into it quickly would continue to finish series
Simon was structured and organized, Amelia as independent as a Regency lady could be. There was definate chemistry and an agreement that turned out neither wanted.
The story is quite fantastic, and the MCs are wonderfully sketched out, but the lack of proofreading took me out of the story. A proofed copy of this would be a 5-star book for me.
An editing disaster—if there was an editor at all. Note they are well worth the money if you want to hide the fact you’re illiterate.I didn’t even highlight all the errors and it was so amazingly bad that it’s all I remember of the story. 😵💫
So I ran across G.L. Snodgrass back in mid 2020. After doing my usual research, I realized I had read 4 of her books back in 2016 but at that time I wasn’t really keeping up with the books I read or my thoughts on them or the author so I didn’t remember those 4 books.
I am so glad I picked up her books again. This is my 18th book and I love her writing. Her stories are always well written and thought out.
I really liked this book a lot. I loved Simon and Amelia. Loved the storyline. Just an all around good read.
I would definitely recommend this book and all the others :)
Lady Amelia Chastain is intelligent, stubborn, and she thought, independent. She doesn’t trust men and has no desire to wed. She wants only to continue her research in botany and publish her first book. There is a snag in her plan. Her brother Thomas has gambled and lost her inheritance, the money with which to publish her book, to Lord Simon Davenport. Lord Simon Davenport is handsome, arrogant, and smart. He is most happy with his life as a rake. He has no desire to marry in the near future. He laughs and adamantly refuses when Amelia demands he do the right thing and return her money. Now she despises him, but he is fascinated with her. He has decided she is the woman he will wed. All he has to do is to make her see things his way. Right. He has his work cut out for him. Will his persistence pay off?
This is a romantic romp with an arrogant hero, a feisty bluestocking heroine, fun family members, and a sneaky but cowardly villain. There is a lot of snarky banter, some steamy romance, and a bit of intrigue. An entertaining story, interesting characters, and, of course, a happily ever after, a good read. I enjoyed and recommend it.
I received an ARC of this book via BookSprout. My review is voluntary.
This is a sweet story about a believing best intentions are often ill thought out. Simon and Amelia are destined to be enemies. An outrageous bet starts a game that has unanticipated results.
