Catalpa Creek #6

The Hermit on the Hill

Rate this book
The grumpiest man in this small town is the father of my baby.

It’s not breaking and entering if the door’s unlocked, is it? I mean, I did knock. My brothers are on their way to Samuel Oakley’s house to syrup and glitter bomb him. I need to warn the man.

When he races into his office, rifle in hand, naked and dripping wet, I realize my mistake. But I can’t regret getting another chance to see him naked, because that man… I’d go to jail for that.

In all the commotion, I might have forgotten to tell him I’m pregnant, but that didn’t give him the right to barge into my life and start telling me how to live.

Turns out the big grump desperately wants to be a father and he’s got some idea that we could be more than amiable co-parents. It doesn’t sound like an awful idea, but one night of chemistry doesn’t equate to a long-term relationship.

I want to start by saying I usually do not subscribe to the theory that you can judge a book by it's cover. I know many people do and that first image is a deal-breaker on whether or not they pick a book or a shelf or even read the description. With that said, this book gave off such a YA feel that I almost missed out on a great read and an introduction to wonderful small town. To be honest, I don't know how this whole series slipped by me because it is filled with one of the most hysterical families I have read -- outside of Erin Nichols books. To think I almost missed this because the cover.

If you are looking for a read that is a self contained HEA and will leave you with a smile on your face days after you have finished the book and "One-Click Purchase" trigger finger to find out stories you missed on, look past the cover and find a very mature story that will pull you in.

With a great balance of dramatic moments that showcase Sadler's close analysis of character and motivation and drop the Kindle because you are laughing so hard moments you will leave The Hermit on The Hill wanting to see what happens next to the characters and smiling fondly.

Well paced, fun to read, great characterizations, with humor moments counterpointing the dramatic, and wonderful dialogue, The Hermit on The Hill is a keeper on my Kindle and a story I will re-read when I finish the first five books in this delightful series.

This is the story of Jenna and Sam it was somehow everything I thought it would be (grumpy alpha/ sunshine female Rom-com) and so much more.

I loved this story, it was unexpected, had me laughing out loud, crying and feeling so cheerful and positive when I got to the end.

It was heartfelt, emotional and funny with well rounded stand out characters, a great storyline and a rich family dynamic.

Jenna ended up pregnant after a one night stand with a man who lied about his name, gave her the best orgasms and then stole her research. 5 months later she is back in her home town, pregnant from said one night stand and who should she discover but Jake (or should I say Sam!).

The main storyline is about Jenna and Sam reconnecting, trying their best for themselves and their baby but it is also so much more, with funny and emotional subplots that drag you in. Plus sex scenes that will leave you hot and bothered.

Well worth a read . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the sixth book in this phenomenal series and this is Sam and Jenna's story.
This is a well written story which has emotions, family, friendships, humour, witty banter, loyalty, challenges, heartbreak, romance, and love which all leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner.

This story has everything all rolled into one great adventure! I laughed, cried, wanted to yell, and sat on the edge of my seat to see what was next. It was an adventure from start to finish! The chemistry between Jenna and Sam is like watching a fireworks show. Throw in Jenna’s family and you better sit back and buckle up. I hate to give anything away there is so much you have to look forward too. Get the book, make some popcorn and enjoy. You definitely won’t be disappointed!.

From the blurb, I wasn't expecting a paranormal twist. A long story short, Sam Oakley is a grumpy hermit whose house is haunted by his grandmother's ghost that makes banging noises and throws things around. His Nana used to be a witch and a healer, and Sam harbors a lot of anger regarding the way she was treated. Jenna had a one-night-stand with him at an academic conference. He gave her several orgasms and stole something from her for research.. He told Jenna a fake name but coincidentally she moved into the town he lives in, coincidentally her brother and his sister know each other independently of Jenna and Sam's relationship, and coincidentally her sister took a photograph of Sam's posterior parts. Jenna recognized Sam's butt from the photo although she is pretty absent-minded and forgetful otherwise. There is a glitter bomb plot, ice cream in hair, a house break-in, a treasure hunt, a bolt of lightning, a spooky bobcat and a naked man with a gun Jenna is unemployed and five months pregnant. Sam figures it out immediately seeing her baby bump, but none of her friends and family seem to suspect a thing.

This all happened in the first fifty pages or so and it was all a bit much and over the top. It was fast paced, unpredictable, slightly confusing and not very plausible, so I might have stopped reading there if I hadn't signed up for to review it. But I stuck it out and it gets better when they start navigating their relationship so I upgraded it to three and a half, four-ish. Sam wants to take care of Jenna and the baby but he has to deal with a lot of anger and bitterness inside his heart. Jenna needs to learn to trust him, a task made harder by the less-than-honest beginning and some secrets he's keeping. However, she is into folklore so when Sam tells her about his Nana's hidden treasure she's all in wanting to help figure it out. She also has to sort out her strained relationship with her mother and there are irate townspeople to deal with. There is some sexual content but not what I would call a steamy book.

Jenna and Sam have such a sweet and steamy love story! Their grumpy hermit meets ray of sunshine story had so many feels! Sam had so much hurt to overcome regarding his Nana's death. Between Jenna's good-natured personality and Nana's ghost sending Sam on a treasure hunt, there are laughs and sentimental scenes that made me tear up as I read them! I can't wait to read more stories by Katharine Sadler!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sam returns to his home town with only revenge on his mind. He feels they turned their backs on his grandmother and let her die.
Jenna returns to her hometown because she is pregnant. She discovers that the father of her baby lives in a mansion on the hill. He had lied to her about his name and stolen her research, ID, and computer access from her. She confronts him about that and later about the baby.
They have a emotional rollercoaster of a ride. Her brothers and her sister’s boyfriend are comedic relief throughout the story. It deals with past hurts, town prejudices, hauntings, superstition and family.
Has a HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wow love this book. The characters are amazing. There are moments in this book where I felt like crying and other moments where I loved how jenna had so much of a positive influence in Sam's life. I think it's amazing how much support Jenny and Sam receive from each of their family members in their lives.
I highly recommend this book to read , it's one of the best books I read in a while.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sam and Jenna go on a treasure hunt… he finds more than he bargains for… whether it’s love, friendship, or otherwise. An intangible feeling of being wanted and loved. Something the almighty green dollars doesn’t buy!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Couldn’t wait to go back to Catalpa Creek. I loved seeing more of Sam and seeing why he was the way he was. Watching him change and let go throughout the book showed how he felt about Jenna. I was especially thrilled with the addition of his grandma’s spirit in the house. What a fun addition!

1. Noah and Aubrey
2. Cody and Carrie
3. May and George
4. *Dilly and Oscar
5. Sam and Jenna
6. Jill and Alex
7. Jared and Brittany

I have figured out that I love a series where each book tells the story of a different family member, but we still get to see what's going on the lives of those whose story has already been told. Be they blood or found family. I just wish we'd gotten to start Sam and Jenna's story at their meet-cute rather than reading about that in a flashback. I'm excited to get to the final book and see how Brittany convinces Jared to finally take on her! :)

The Hermit on the Hill is a super cute sunshine and grump romantic comedy with a few hints of paranormal. Sam is hell bent on revenge for the the whole town and Jenna needs to be closer to her family when she finds out she is pregnant with the baby of a man who seduced her and stole her work. When she discovers Sam in town things get fluffy and funny from there. I loved the whole treasure hunt, I wish there had been more of the folklore in the book that was a really neat element. .

This book can be read as a standalone . It takes place in Catalpa Creek. This story is Sam and Jenna’s. The chemistry between the two is undeniable. One is Sunshine while the other is pure grump.

I enjoyed this book it was an easy read. I would recommend this book if you enjoy small town romances. I loved that there was a bit of paranormal/folklore thrown in the story. I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review and opinion above.

Please hire a copy editor

The storyline was ok, the supernatural stuff was a fun extra, but for the love of god, hire a copy editor. So many mistakes in this series. Animals changing sex, characters going from parent to grandparent and then back to parent again. Characters knowing things they were never told, people’s professions changing. Makes it hard to enjoy the story
