This is interesting vampire lore with some good characters however as the series progressed I've lost the pull and draw into the world. I've also found watered down versions of initial main characters being retread. I wanted to like these main characters and be there with them when they fall for each other but instead I was skimming over the love scenes. These two never fell in love Kyle belated realizes they are mates. It was so underwhelming! But to top it off there was so much that could have made for deeper romance. Initially Samantha is so pitiful and Kyle rebukes her and carry's on demeaning internal dialogue. Instead he could have seen through the downtrodden woman and pronounced her his queen. This would have been the beginning of a love story instead of " oh she is just one of those." Then he could have continued to build her up and support her as she redefined herself. But instead it was so degrading. It was kick the puppy sad.
Additionally there were some time/ place history issues written in the series and a few oddities like that. The kind that stagger the mind and keep me muttering to myself 4 chapters later while I'm still internally arguing about it. Lol. But it matters.
The series has potential and I wish this author the best. But for now I'm gonna hit a new one. I might be in a reader's funk for now but make it back here later with greater positivity.✌🏼

Kyle's Mission . . .
Kyle is working undercover on behalf of the vampire King Nic. The Dupont family vampires rule over New Orleans, and Kyle’s mission is to infiltrate the Blackbloods and dismantle them from within before they encroach on the Dupont territory.
Kyle had a meeting set up in a bar to meet with Esmé, the second in charge of the Blackbloods, but it looked like she had stood him up. Instinct told him to wait there anyway. At closing, a woman sat down in his booth, but it wasn’t Esmé. She smelled human but sort of tainted. He recognized that she was human but also a thrall addicted to vampire venom. Someone needed to turn her soon or she would die; her life was on the line.
The woman looked at Kyle who was pretending to be bored, but she had been watching him for some time and he noted every single person there, like he was doing a survey. The man looked like a killing machine. His eyes missed nothing. Esmé wanted unquestioning minions working for her, not someone as sharp and well-trained as this man. When he meets Sam, how will that complicate his mission when she begins to depend on him for survival? Will he help her get away from Esmé? Will she compromise his mission?

Loved it! Big, burly, quiet vampire has a tender side for his mate.
This book gave me all kinds of happy feels. Our MMC, Kyle, was turned, savagely, by a rogue vampire around the time of the civil war. Nic found him and gave him a purpose again. He’s a bodyguard, a fixer, a warrior. He’s a man (or vamp!) of few words. He has infiltrated a group of rogue vampires known as the Blackbloods. Make no mistake, these are dangerous vampires and they have a eye towards taking over New Orleans.
I absolutely love when we have a strong, silent type that really doesn’t want a mate, but gets one anyway. The only thing I love more, is a man whore who reforms his wanton ways because he found his mate, but I digress . . . Kyle’s mate is Sam. She is a thrall to a violent, ill tempered vampire, Esme. She is pretty pragmatic about her future. I love me a pragmatic, strong FMC. When she realizes what is between her and Kyle, she is all in. I was too! The whole storyline left me very satisfied as the final chapter sets the stage for another looming skirmish, and love for one more of Nic’s men. I do love these Vampires of Baton Rouge.

Vampire Enforcer/Soldier Kyle was the next up to meet his fated mate!
At first, I wondered how they were going to make the hardest character in this series yield to anyone. This man is like a machine. I think pairing him with a thrall was exactly what he needed.
Sam was the perfect match for Kyle as she was someone who was in need and Kyle was a person who wanted to be needed. They just fit. It was nice to see Kyle's walls slowly give way to Sam. And it was nice to see Sam get her happy ending after everything she went through.
Reading this story was like watching the Incredible Hulk fall in love... and I'm here for it. Another great installment of this series. Looking forward to seeing Jason meet his mate.

This story is the best in this series
This story has a steady flow of excitement. It keeps you interested and doesn't get bogged down in background and settings. The story is pretty much all outside of the previous books in the series so not too much overlap either. That's fantastic for keeping you interested in what's next. The situation with Essme and Sam's brother doesn't become entirely clear until the end... For part of the story I thought all 3 of them were human but I think Essme was turned before she met Sam and her brother. It was an interesting twist having Sam be a thrall. I think the witch Naomi is a fun character. One thing the after story follow on intros , are for the story I just read... Nothing for book 3.... Not sure why. I liked this one best so far.

This is the story of Sam a thrall and Kyle, a vampire. It was a crazy and entertaining story full of action, danger, and intrigue as Kyle and Sam two meet and what happens next. Fun and entertaining to read I had to see if Sam would get her freedom and if war would actually break out. Would Kyle be successful was the question. And had to see what might e revealed and learned this time around.

A wonderful addition to the series. Sam is a vampires slave and no longer leads a human life. Kyle is instantly drawn to her and wants to protect her even while he is infiltrating a rival vampire nest. Non stop action and romance!

Ruthless Enforcer was amazing. That's the least I can say. Kyle and Sam meeting each other was 100% love at first sight even though neither of them knew it at that time.
At this point, I have to say that I'll read almost anything that Roxie Ray publishes because I love their books. Yes, they have very similar tropes, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
4/5 stars.

Ruthless Enforcer: A Paranormal Vampire Romance (Vampires of Baton Rouge Book 2)
Another really good story! This is the first book I have read about a Vampire Thrall and it was very interesting. It is really sad though to think that someone would have that much control over another human! It’s a very touching story but still filled with lots of action and intrigue.

This one was much better than Nic and Sebastian's novels. Had better storyline but I do feel something all the books are starting to have in common is the ending are so rushed. There's a lot of build up than it's done.
I like Sam. Her character I felt bad for with everything she endured. We finally got more personality from Kyle but still not much. Now let's see how's Jason's book.

Hoping For The Best Before I Die
I like how she went from blood slave to mate. The mental and physical abuse and drama of what she went through was hard. All the characters were exciting to read about. The suspense and action was awesome throughout this book. Excellent!

I expected this series to be similar to Nic and Leia’s. It was a surprise when it was not a continuation of Seb and Kayla’s story, but Kyle’s story with his mate!

Some typos, but a good read and a nice addition to the series. A little slow at first and definitely not my favorite one so far, but definitely a worthy read.

The plot was very intriguing and I loved Kyle in the first book. Execution of the book just wasn’t it for me, still had a fun time reading though.

I really, really LOVED Kyle and Sam’s story!! It was different and unexpected! I do wish we could’ve gotten a tad more emotion out of Kyle or maybe just more Kyle & Sam together time - just them doing things together but given their unconventional storyline, that probably made it a bit harder. It was a great read and I CAN’T WAIT for Jason’s book at the end of the month!! I want there to be more though, I want MORE of this Family!!!

This is a great series set in an amazingly well constructed world!
Sam and Kyle's story is dark and dangerous with non stop action as they try and safely navigate the murky waters of their city!
