Superworld: Save Noah

Rate this book
In a world where everyone is extraordinary, it takes a totally normal kid to save the day. This new series breaks the mold with gorgeous black-and-white art on every page, and a cinematic, blockbuster feel.

Every 12-year-old kid feels like they don't fit in sometimes -- but Noah takes it to a whole new level. When a meteor crashed to Earth on his seventh birthday, the whole planet got superpowers.....except for Noah.

Thanks to his tin foil superhero costume, Noah's powers got deflected -- onto his little sister.  He's literally the only normal person in all of Superworld. He can't fly. He can't scale tall buildings. He can't turn broccoli into candy. (And of course his little sister got double powers. Of course. ) And still...when the biggest, baddest villian in town plots to take over Superworld forever, normal Noah and his supercharged best friends are the ones who just might save the day. Seriously.

Valla bekliyorum hemen gelsin🤌

What a unique, creative, highly imaginative, BEAUTIFULLY illustrated story that was just so FUN! Every 12-year-old kid feels like they don't fit in sometimes -- but Noah takes it to a whole new level. When a meteor crashed to Earth on his 7th birthday, the whole planet got superpowers.....except for Noah. Thanks to his tin foil superhero costume, Noah's powers got deflected -- onto his little sister.  He's literally the only normal person in all of Superworld. He can't fly. He can't scale tall buildings. He can't turn broccoli into candy. (& of course his little sister got double powers. Of course.) & still...when the biggest, baddest villian in town plots to take over Superworld forever, normal Noah & his supercharged best friends are the ones who just might save the day. Seriously. This was such a uniquely told story in its formatting. Not graphic novel, but not fully traditional novel formatting either. Almost every page is full of the most BEAUTIFUL artwork ever, bringing this adventure superhero story to life in vivid detail. The superhero story itself is also different, & so imaginative. Incredible characters, & amazing underlying messages/lessons throughout. Fabulous story building & character growth. Noah is such a great MC. To be the only human without superpowers..& being in middle school too? Like it wasn’t hard enough fitting in at that age lol. Plus the constant danger, & heroes always wanting to save him?! Wow. His friends truly are super though, because he found some kids that even with “super brain”, they manage to be friends 1st before that. Noah’s little sister is so creepy in a evil genius type of way, but creepier-just because creepy little kids freak me out lol. HIGHLY recommend. So excited for the next book. STUNNING cover & artwork by Yarrow Cheney as well.💜

What worked:
The book’s title refers to a game that normal Noah plays with his superfriends; they put his life in danger and then try to save him. The book opens with Noah having just broken eighteen bones in his body. The premise of the story is very unique, as everyone else in the world has a superpower, and they all want to rescue Noah. In addition, many of the citizens are supervillains with Destructo being the most powerful. The author develops Noah’s low self-image as Noah feels useless among his friends; his six-year-old sister even has two superpowers! Noah is shocked and skeptical when Mobius tells him he’s the only one who can save the world. Ironically, a non-super person may be the savior of all the superheroes.
Noah’s group of friends presents innovative abilities and personalities. Arturo (super name Replay) can do anything his character could have done in a video game. Tabitha (Hairstrike) is an ultra-fast thinker and can wield her hair like super-powered tentacles. Hugh (Hugh-Mongous) is usually rather small but can quickly grow into a huge, powerful fighter. Ivy (Nightingale) is perhaps Noah’s closest friend, and she’s what’s called a Fixer. Ivy can fix anything that’s broken, which means she can repair those eighteen broken bones Noah suffered playing “Save Noah”. The characters are enhanced by fantastic, black-and-white illustrations that depict scenes of them in non-stop action. Readers will encounter pictures every time they turn a page.
The story includes an abundance of humor, some of it being a bit juvenile. Noah’s parents, especially his mother, are overly protective since he doesn’t have any super abilities. His mom grows to a giant size and literally hovers over his school to make sure he’s not being hurt. He goes on dangerous missions with his friends but he can’t let his parents know he’s part of them. His little sister Joy may be six years old, but she’s a sneaky toddler. She’s a big fan of Dr. Destructo, and Noah’s afraid she’ll grow up to become a villain. Noah begins working with the five most popular superheroes and he’s mentally joined with the team. He discovers it can be embarrassing when others know what you’re thinking. In addition, one of the superheroes is an invisible rat who tends to startle Noah when perched on his shoulder. It’s absurd when the characters get super-brain and become uncontrollably obsessed with fighting villains.
What didn’t work as well:
The sense of humor may not appeal to everyone. As mentioned, it’s often silly but entertaining for readers with a tolerance for it. Also, there are a lot of characters, so they’re not fully developed.
The final verdict:
This book is perfect for middle-grade readers looking for superhero humor with awesome illustrations. It may not appeal to everyone but I recommend you find out for yourself.

I got this for my older son (10) thinking he would really like it. I don't know if it was because mom picked it or because he is super adamant his books are straight up comics and not anything related to real books, but he didn't want to read it. My 5 year old decided he wanted it read to him and it sure did hold his interest. He'd bring it a few times a day wanting a chapter read to him. About half the time that older brother (and a 7 year old sister too) that didn't want to read it himself, still ended up listening as well. I have to admit I feel like a little kid and was jealous books like this weren't a thing when I was growing up. The pages are stylish and beautiful. True artwork on the pages and SO MANY of the pages. I get that printing costs negates this being more profitable possibly, but it is a beautiful book. I hope more books follow this lead and bring more life to books to draw more kids into the story earlier. This book was constant action with a few life lessons peppered throughout. I was SO bummed when we got to the end and ran into a "To be continued....". A full grown adult is fully hooked on this kids series. 🤦🏻‍♀️ In some ways, not really. I did fully enjoy reading it with my little one though and was a bit disappointed when I remembered I pulled it off the "brand new" shelf and couldn't look for the next one upon my next trip. Gah! I WILL be keeping an eye out for the release of the next one.

Good clean action packed thrills book for your kids. A few good moral lessons. I personally would highly recommend.

First off, I'm a huge fan of audiobooks but make sure you read the print version of this, the illustrations are great! I really enjoyed this story a lot and the text and illustrations intertwined wonderfully. The story was unique and refreshing and, though it didn't dive into anything too deeply, still made you think. Like Noah seemed to be trying to save some of the old world: non-superhero related books and other media, human-made structures (because most kept getting destroyed), and other stuff. It tells of two natural wonders being destroyed and it makes you wonder what else of the natural world has disappeared. Also, I'm not sure a single animal appears in any illustration (besides some heroes/villains who can turn into them). It is not blatantly a conservation book but I think it may start some readers thinking about the effects humanity has on our world, even without us all being superheroes.

There were also some strong hints that having power can blind you and how, when you have a whole lot of power, you may be doing something to "help" when, in fact, you are causing harm.

Those thoughts may make it sound overly deep or philosophical but really it's just a whole lot of fun. The text interspersed with so many pictures may make this a perfect recommendation for reluctant readers and for those who think they only like graphic novels (not that I think there's anything wrong with those). This may be a good start of a bridge between those and more traditional "chapter books."

Imagine that a meteor crashed into Earth, and everyone got superpowers – except YOU! That is Noah’s life. As the only NORMAL person left on the planet, he is constantly being “rescued” by the Supers and is the evil focus of all the Villians. Until he gets a text from the most famous superheroes in the world and is told he is the only one who can save the Earth from destruction. What will he do?!

I enjoyed this book. There was lots of action, adventure, and comedy. The story is told by inserts of text with pictures that show you exactly what Noah is experiencing. I thought it was a great, fast read. My favorite thing was probably his friend, who could heal all his injuries. There are many times he is laying around with broken bones or bleeding, and his friend fixes him up for the next bout of “rescuing.”

The only thing I didn’t like was the ending. It ended on a cliffhanger, and now I’m dying to know what happens next.

My little boy and I are in LOVE with this book. It is the first chapter book he has ever showed interest in and for that we are forever indebted. It has stunning artwork on every page. When we are not reading the words together, my son is flipping through the pages on his own. We can't wait for the Super sequel!

Super fun and superhero charged! A great story about a normal kid who saves the world when everyone else has superpowers (He's just a tad bitter that he's the only person wo didn't get superpowers when a meteorite hit the Earth). Fast-paced thrill ride for kids who love plot-driven stories with loads of action. For upper elementary and middle grade readers. The first in a new series.

A cross between the style of Hugo Cabret and the concepts of Superman. I hope kids love it.
