Taking skills from their Criminal Science homeschooled class to investigate whether the explosion was an accident or a clever plot to shut down the government facility they uncover clues within the town in search of justice and to clear the innocent. This book is a must-read! I found the plotline refreshingly original that brings so much to the table. I came for the mystery but the relationships are equally intriguing. I liked how the adults in the novel were portrayed realistically and equally involved- something you don’t get usually from YA. I am looking forward to learning more about the characters and how they relate to each other as I progress through the series as well as learning more about Steven's Mill. The faith aspect of this novel is natural and not overdone. The YA audience will appreciate the level of intelligence and respect given to the teen characters. There is also something there for adult readers that happen to enjoy YA or mysteries - they will enjoy the parent’s relationships with the children in the book. Small town mystery readers will find this book well developed and will settle into the plot easily. Fans of Goonies and Stand By Me will enjoy the coming of age aspect with the teen sleuths. Be prepared though because this book ends in a cliffhanger that will tug at you to read the next installment in the series!
