Mr. and Mrs. Platt are married at a big ceremony in Chicago. They spend their wedding night in the honeymoon suite of a five-star hotel in downtown Chicago. Robert Platt picks up his wife on the balcony to carry her over the threshold and back into their honeymoon suite. Instead, he tosses her over the railing and sends her plunging twenty-three stories to her death.
Homicide detective Cliff Ford is called to the scene. It's inconceivable to him that a man would kill his bride on their honeymoon night. His skills are challenged as he must unlock the mystery behind a devious mind. A man who has killed before. And will kill again, if Cliff doesn't stop him.

Terry Toler has written a tale that keeps a reader turning the pages wondering about what's next. A dead woman is found on the sidewalk in front of a very expensive hotel in Chicago. She is wearing a very expensive nightgown. Detective Cliff Ford tells his wife Julia about what happened. In this case she makes suggestions that help him solve the case, but far longer than Cliff hopes.
I loved this one! So glad they got the bad guys! It would have been interesting to hear about the confrontation with the father of the murder victim and the son!
This is an awesome mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was intriguing and really kept my interest. I always look forward to reading Terry Toler's new books!
This was the first book by Terry Toler that I read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I look forward to finding additional books from this author. The book was clean, no foul language, which I appreciate.
From the beginning, the reader knows exactly what crime was committed against who and by who. So how could there anything left to tell? Something about being in the know as a reader while the detective is trying to prove everything was interesting. The result? One of the best suspense books I have ever read. I greatly enjoyed it!
Cliff Ford is on this case. His wife also contributes her insights to help solve the case. At first the motivation is not clear. But gradually, the reader comes to see why Mrs. Platt does not survive her honeymoon.
I would consider this a stand-alone book. But I am glad that I read the first Cliff Hangers book first. I am really enjoying this series since it focuses on a couple.
Note to remind me to change this later: I actually finished this book in April, but I did not manage to include it on my timeline. So for now it says May. But I will change it later.
Engaging story. Author has a pretty basic writing style that's easy to read. Not sure I was totally on board with the narrative about the investigation, especially early on. Seemed like he would have persisted in following up at the hotel.
Another great book by Terry Toler. It is hard to come up with a motive for him committing a crime like this, especially on one’s honeymoon? It always comes down to the husband and greed. I find it hard to believe that they would go to these lengths but I guess it happens.
Toler has a way of keeping the reader reading into the night. A husband throws his wife off the balcony of the honeymoon suite the night of their honeymoon and it seems like that would be a slam dunk case, but things get in the way and complications arise and cliff and Julia rise to the occasion.
Fun and entertaining at times, but way too many holes and inconsistencies in Ford's skills and persistence. There were a number of times alternative investigative options were available that were not even attempted. Other times, he didn't consider obvious tactics that his wife, an unskilled civilian, had no trouble investigating - ludicrous for a supposedly top detective. I'll give the series another try, but I hope it improves. Additional note: The series did not improve, but actually was significantly worse. If you want to read a series with a capable and competent detective, read the Black Beacons Murder series based in Wales.
