He's sexy, single, and he can bake!

The doting single dad is also fresh off his win on a popular cooking show and a whiz at campfire cooking, so who better to help her win this year's annual cookie bake-off? She's too kind, too optimistic, and could do so much better than hitching up with a curmudgeon like him. But every time she draws near, he can't help but wonder if he could open his heart and love again.
As the holidays come closer, the magic of Twilight starts to weave its spell...and soon it's not just the competition that's heating up, it's the hot sizzle between Roan and Jazzy.
Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.
She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.
Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.
She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.
Aww, The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is so cute!🍪🎄🐎 I listened to this while baking my holiday cookies and it was the perfect book for it. And even though this is book #13, it's excellent as a standalone.
I read this for my personal COWBOY + CHRISTMAS challenge. Although I had my eye on this title last year, it disappeared from the Hoopla catalog but it's back and I'm so glad I stuck to it.
This is a steamy open door, age gap, insta family, and second chance romance 🔥🔥🔥 with mandatory break up.👎
Jazzy Walker never wins. Her childhood best friend Andi always does and now even takes her boyfriend. Jazzy has to get away and leave her hometown Twilight, TX and she plans to do that by applying for a traveling nurse job.
When Jazzy heard about the Campfire Cookie contest she's determined to learn and win the challenge with the help from the best, Roan Sullivan - a widower with a little girl, a former cooking champion and campfire cooking expert. Great couple and chemistry!

This was on Hoopla, and now it's gone! I should've grabbed it when I had the chance. 🎄😭
This is a Christmas Cowboy Romance, and this is the 13th book in the Twilight, Texas series. I loved the romance in this book. I loved the characters so much, and the little girl in this book is just so cute. I also loved the little bit of Christmas in this book. I have never heard about campfire cooking cookies, but I love that this book had so much campfire cooking mixed in with the two main characters getting to know each other. I really enjoyed this book so much. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Avon Books) or author (Lori Wilde) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Lori Wilde does it again! This was a really cute read! Fun small town romance w/ great Christmas spirit! While I really enjoyed the characters I did find the epilogue a little bizarre and wish the book had some campfire cookie recipes. I received an arc of this book in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank netgalley, the author Lori Wilde, and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book!

The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is the thirteenth book in the Twilight,Texas series. This is such a fine series. I have really enjoyed the books I've read in this series. Twilight,Texas is a beautiful place that you will definitely want to visit. A charming small town pediatric nurse Jazzy Walker meets Roan Sullivan when he brings his daughter in to be treated. Yes Roan is attracted to Jazzy but he's still grieving the loss of his wife,doing the single daddy thing to his 4 year old daughter and just happens to be ten years older than Jazzy. I loved the daughter she has such a fun,mischievous personality. Now not only is this guy good looking , he can bake too. Actually he's just won a baking competition and is encouraging Jazzy to enter the cookie baking contest with something that'll really catch their attention. I had never heard of baking cookies over a campfire, sounds like you need a special technique but it sounds like a sure fire winner to me. I loved the slow burn relationship Jazzy and Roan had and seeing their characters develop. This couple has quite the chemistry. This is a wonderful series!
Pub Date: 25 Oct 2022 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Fun return to Twilight, Texas. Here we have pediatric nurse extraordinaire Jazzy Walker. The twenty-three-year-old nurse is well known for her cheery personality and positive attitude. The cheeriness has taken a little bit of a hit lately, as her boyfriend was stolen by her nemesis, Andi Browning. Jazzy would like nothing more than to finally beat Andi at something, so she enters this year's cookie bake-off. The problem? Jazzy can't bake to save her life, and this year's competition also involves baking over a campfire. Her only hope is talking the father of one of her patients into helping her.
Roan is the single father of a four-year-old little girl. He lost his wife two years earlier and gave up the competitive cooking that they did together. Instead, he devotes himself to his daughter, Trinity, and his ranch. His first reaction to Jazzy's request is a resounding "NO!" but it isn't long before he gives in to her pleas. Roan doesn't understand why he is so drawn to Jazzy. She's too young, nice, and optimistic for a grouchy old guy like him (he's thirty-three). But there is something about her that makes him wonder about the possibilities.
I liked watching the relationship develop between Roan and Jazzy. Roan is hesitant because of the age difference and his reluctance to risk his heart again. Jazzy makes no secret of her attraction to Roan and willingness for a rebound relationship. Jazzy is on a three-week vacation from work, so she has plenty of time for campfire cooking lessons from Roan. I loved Roan's patience as he helped Jazzy overcome her confidence issues when competing with Andi. The more time they spend together, the harder it is for Roan to resist Jazzy. However, his fears have him waffling about how he treats her - first kissing her silly, then pulling away.
Though Jazzy initially proposes the rebound relationship, it isn't long before she realizes she wants more. She tries to bury her feelings, believing Roan is still in love with his late wife. This is harder to do as she and Roan give in to their attraction, and she starts dreaming of a future together. One of the things I liked about seeing Jazzy and Roan together was how she brought some light back into his life. But when the competition is over, Roan lets his fears come between them. I ached for Jazzy and wanted to shake some sense into Roan. I was happy when he saw the light, but Jazzy should have made him work harder to get back into her life.
The cookie competition and rivalry between Jazzy and Andi were critical to the story. Andi was very unlikeable, and the more I learned about their history, the less I liked her. Andi's constant bullying of Jazzy was one of the motivations for Roan's decision to help Jazzy. I liked Jazzy's growing confidence and how Roan's support helped Jazzy let go of her hard feelings. I had fun watching Jazzy improve her skills while still being her somewhat klutzy self. I laughed at the happy accident that gave her the recipe she needed for the contest. The contest itself was a nail-biter. Several twists affected the outcome. Andi's actions didn't surprise me at all.
I enjoyed the secondary characters of Trinity and Charlie. Roan's daughter was adorable, and I understood his protectiveness after what he'd been through. Her love for her daddy was evident, and I liked how she made Jazzy part of their circle. Jazzy's best friend, Charlie, was great. He knows Jazzy very well and does his best to rein her in when she needs it. He is there when Jazzy needs him, whether it's dealing with Andi or heart-related issues. I also liked seeing characters from earlier books, including Jazzy's dad and stepmom.
Jazzy Walker is 22 and a pediatric nurse. She meets Roan, who is a widow, when his four year old daughter is in the hospital for a tonsillectomy. She is known for her positivity and seeing the good in others. He’s ten years older and barely meets my okay range for age gap romances. Jazzy decides to enter a campfire cookie competition because of an ongoing rivalry with a fellow nurse who has one upped her forever. Roan it turns out use to be a champion campfire chef. And he agrees to teach her.
The whole romance takes place in just a few weeks before Christmas. So it is going to be instant attraction. It is complicated by Jazzy being Roan’s first romance since his wife who was his high school sweetheart died. Roan is also concern about the age gap and that Jazzy has only been with high school sweetheart. The guy broke things off with her to be with her rival. The romance is sweet and they talk things out somewhat before leaping into intimacy.
This is the 13th in an ongoing Twilight Texas series by the author. In fact, the third book in the series was the romance of Jazzy’s dad and stepmother. Most of the books are holiday romances. If you follow the series and want to stay up on the characters you’ll want to read this book. (I’ve read a few of the series.) I liked the story but some of the phrases felt immature or at times cliche. Roan refers to his raging boner and later suggests she is confused in her feelings because he gave her her first orgasm. Eww. Honestly Jazzy felt more mature than Roan at times. Still a good romance set during Christmas time. Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’m disappointed because it was not quite what the synopsis led me to believe. The immature rivalry between Jazzy and Andi was so cringey. Jazzy’s eternal optimism was exhausting and very one-note as a character. Even her petty side wasn’t that petty. There were moments that it was so inspirational that I thought someone was going to start speaking in tongues and instead, the main characters have sex and give her her first orgasm. Roan is barely in his 30s and acts like he’s 50. The two of them together made bo sense at all.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
She's a pediatric nurse and his daughter was at the hospital for minor complications due to a tonsillectomy and she caught him just in time before he almost fainted.
Roan lost his wife two years ago when she died from a minor operation complication so he was pretty stressed for his little girl's surgery. He's a cutting horse rancher who once won a campfire cook-off competition on Food Network. So it's only natural that Jazzy ask for his help when she enters the Christmas Cookie Challenge in the hope of beating the long-time winner, aka the former friend who stole her fiancé. At first, Roan refuse. Cooking is a heartbreaking memory of his life with his wife. But when he learn the reason why Jazzy wants to compete, he doesn't have it in him to say no a second time and they start spending time together trying different cookies recipes. They soon acklowledge the attraction they feel for each other but both are hesitant to start anything romantic. He thinks she's too young for him and she's waiting for a call from Traveling Nurses. There's lot of slow burn before they finally decide to give free reins to their desire.
This is book 13 in the Twilight, Texas series. It was sweet to see a previous character grown up and find love. Jazzy was first feature in book 3 (she was Travis's little girl). Not to say that this book can't be read as a standalone. At times I thought that Jazzy and Roan's chemistry lacked a little bit of heat and I think some readers might be bothered by the many references to his late wife, but I enjoyed my reading and was happy to see them find their HEA.
Jazzy Walker is a nurse in pediatrics at the local hospital and Roan Sullivan is a single dad whose daughter just had surgery. Jazzy ex-boyfriend is newly engaged to her nemesis. Andi always seems to best Jazzy at everything and is rubbing it in she is engaged to her ex. Jazzy doesn't want him back but would love to show Andi up at something. This year's cookie challenge is campfire cooking and Roan is an expert. Jazzy convinces Roan to teach her how to bake cookies over a campfire. Roan thinks he's too old for Jazzy since there is a ten-year gap. I loved watch Roan let go of his dead wife and Jazzy realize she never really loved her former boyfriend. You get to visit some of the old spots in town and new people. Overall, a great Christmas book.
A fun holiday time read, small town, age gap, cookie baking romance. Jazzy is a pediatric nurse in the town of Twilight, TX. She meets Roan, the father of her charge, after her surgery. Roan, is attracted but feels he is too old for Jazzy.
Jazzy enters the town Holiday Cooking Contest, but Jazzy can not cook. In addition, the theme is a specialty cooking that Roan is a champion of. Jazzy enlists Roan’s help; she needs to best Andi in something.
I enjoyed reading about the character growth and seeing them thrive together—a nice holiday read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
I would love to see this one turned into a movie! Jazzy needs all the help she can get when she enters a Cookie bake-off, so she asks the professional campfire cook, who's also a grumpy single dad.
I adored everything about this story, from watching the way Jazzy cares for everyone, especially her patients. Roan as a dad, who's suffered a huge loss, will win you over immediately.
I'll be reading this one every December and can't wait to bake some cookies to have on hand for the next time! If you love the warmth and comfort of Hallmark movies, you'll adore this book.
Jazzy and Roan are a terrific couple. Jazzy is a funny, caring and loyal pediatric nurse. Roan is a dedicated single dad. The writing is phenomenal. t was interesting learning how to bake cookies in a Dutch Oven over an open fire.
I received an ARC of, The Cowboy Cookie Challenge by, Lori Wilde. Cookies and cowboys what more could a women want under her Christmas tree. This is a delightful Christmas story. Jazzy is a really cool character.
Jazzy Walker, a shy Pediatric Nurse, with a positive attitude believes everything and everyone can be fixed. After being dumped by her boyfriend who isn't compatible with her personality, he becomes engaged to her childhood nemesis, Andi Browning. Jazzy decides to leave her home town and become a Traveling Nurse. But, before she leaves, Jazzy wants to come in 1st place and beat Andi in the Christmas Cookie baking contest. Jazzy enters the Dutch Oven Cookie Challenge. The problem is that Jazzy can't bake.
Roan Sullivan, Cowboy Rancher, single dad, and winner of a cooking contest meets Jazzy while his 4 yr. old daughter is in the hospital. Ron's attracted to the much younger Jazzy's bubbly personality and compares her to his deceased wife, Claire, who was the opposite and suffered from Anxiety and needed constant emotional reassurance.
Jazzy wants Roan to teach her how to bake which he declines to do so until he hears Andi Browning taunting Jazzy telling her she's going to lose. Roan decides to help Jazzy win the contest before she leaves town. But as they spend time together, Roan's not sure he can't let the love shy Jazzy go as he opens his heart up to love again.
The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is a baking challenge with a difference. First the cookies have to be baked in an iron cast.pot and second they have to be original recipes. Now I don't bake but ever since I finished the book I've been craving cookies with coconut, chopped pecans, and chocolate chips. Let me know what you think .yes or no.
All of their lives Jazzy and Andi had been in a competion.with each other. Jazzy was the cheery friend of everyone and And was the cut throat mean girl who stole.Jazzy fiance. When Andi signed up for the cookie bake, so did Jazzy. Past winner Roan, after hearing Andi insult Jazzy and buy the last cast iron pot on sale, decides to help her, although he hasn't cooked since his wife (his cooking partner) died.
Love blooms as Roan, Jazzy, and his daughter Trinity get acquainted. Trinity is definitely the glue that brings this couple together, and Roan is a cowboy filled with guilt for thinking about starting a new relationship. Jazzy, at times, made me me want to shake her for letting people walk all over her. But then, we are who we are.
~~~ I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ~~~
The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is the story of Roan (a campfire chef) and Jazzy. It is a light-hearted holiday romance. This book has potential to be a decent book, but maybe the author and/or editor was in a hurry? I am not sure. There are a lot of discrepancies in this book (for example at one point the book says that Roan and Jazzy stop at the pharmacy to get her prescription on the way home from the hospital, then a few pages later Roan tells Jazzy that he should go get her prescription before the weather gets worse...). There were more than one of these type of scenarios int his book, which was really annoying. Additionally, the characters of this book were very immature for being in their 20s and 30s. I didn't feel connected to the characters or feel their connection with each other.
This is the second Lori Wilde book I've read and both have been mediocre, so I'll probably pass on her novels in the future, they're just not for me.
In this book we find ourselves back in Twilight, Texas Jazzy is a pediatric nurse who is constantly in competition with her rival Andi. Andi always does what it take to win, by hook or crook she is determined to win at all costs. The cookie challenge this year involves how to bake cookies over a campfire. Lol of course need Jazzy or Andi know one thing about cooking this way but that doesn't stop either one from entering the contest. What follows is a sweet storyline about falling in love, overcoming past hurts and looking forward to the future. I most definitely would recommend this book to others.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher Avon Books, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
ARC for honest review with no compensation Received from NetGalley 4 stars
The Cowboy Cookie Challenge is book 13 in the Twilight Texas series by Lori Wilde and another great read!
This is an age gap romance between young Jazzy and Roan 10 years older, a widower with a 4 yr old daughter Jazzy takes care of after her surgery. Sparks fly from the beginning but Roan feels he is to old for her.
What happens next will keep you turning the pages, wanting to slap someone up side the head, who’s more mature, childhood rivalry, sparks, romance and so much more.
I always enjoy a quick cowboy Christmas read and this one did not disappoint. I enjoyed visiting Twilight again. Loved each of the characters. I Look forward to the next book in this series.
I really enjoyed this book. It made me giddy and happy. Both of the main characters were great along with the supporting characters. It had one spicy scene. The rest was closed door.
Jazzy and Roan have had a time of it. Jazzy is the now adult daughter of a couple in a previous book in the series. She grew up to have a very sunny and positive disposition - even in the face of having her mother abandon her and suffering from illness as a child. She's a pediatric nurse - and pretty much the exact person you'd want to take care of your sick child. She has an amazingly positive attitude and sunny personality. She's had an almost lifelong competitive relationship with a mean-girl. That mean-girl recently moved in and "stole" Jazzy's long term boyfriend and continues to make it her life's goal to beat Jazzy at everything and anything. Jazzy is dying to finally beat Andi at something - so she enters a cookie competition that involves campfire baking. Since Jazzy isn't good at baking to begin with and doesn't know where to begin with the campfire part - she enlists (or begs for) the help of Roan.
Roan lost his wife recently to complications related to a minor medical procedure Since then he's given up on his cooking videos and competitions and focused all his energy on his young daughter and his ranch. His relationship with Jazzy comes as a total surprise - and a heck of a lot of fear.
Roan is a total sweetheart and Jazzy is a total ray of sunshine. I think the best parts of the book involved her working through her issues with her ex and her nemesis Andi. Overall - I think this would have been a four star read for me but for the temporary breakup at the end and TBH the epilogue (). This is a sweet and sexy holiday romance - with all the small town cheer you can handle.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
In this sweet book from Author Lori Wilde we get book 13 in the Twilight Texas series. When you take two beautiful people that are broke whether from loss or betrayal and a very sweet 4 year old child you get the perfect foundation for a possible love match if they just get out of their own way. The author writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors Blurb: He’s sexy, single, and he can bake.
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
The Cowboy Cookie Challenge by Lori Wilder is a romance but is far from serious. Jazzy is a pediatric nurse and everyone’s favorite. Just that day she had caught a man who was about to pass out from the stress associated with being in the hospital with his daughter, who had her tonsils out. He was still recovering from his wife dying in a hospital several years earlier. She was in the bar telling the story to her friend, Charlie, who worked in the emergency room, when who should walk in but a gorgeous cowboy who turned out to be the dad in question. She went over to check and see if he was OK and asked him out. She always thought she could fix everyone. He told her he didn’t go on pity dates. Just then her ex and his new fiancee walked in and made her feel terrible. She always lost to Andi, even Danny. Right then she decided that she was going to enter the Dutch Oven Cookie Challenge, just to win something. Could she bake? No. Did she know anything about Dutch Ovens? No. It turned out the dad, Roan, had been a champion. She went to beg him to help her. He told her no but did tell her he and his wife had made some videos and he could repost them on YouTube so she could see them. She did and it was a lot harder than it looked.
Jazzy and Roan turned out to be good pair. It took some getting over hangups: Roan thought the age difference was too great. Jazzy really was sunshine in a human body: such a positive attitude. Roan was a mature man who had learned a lot in his life. The were well-written characters who melded well with one another. The plot was what one would expect of a romance plot, but there were a few twists and turns. The cookie challenge and the whole situation with Jazzy’s competition with Andi, or maybe it was the other way around, made an entertaining diversion in the story. All in all, it was a good read. Positive and light. Not to mention, hot.
Whenever I get a chance to return to Twilight, Texas, I am ALL in. The Cowboy Cookie Challenge by Lori Wilde was such a wonderful read that I am still smiling from the enjoyment I got from it one day later. Jazzy Walker is a character we’ve met before when she was a young child in The First Love Cookie Club, and now she’s ready her love story. Jazzy is a pediatric nurse and has a competitive rivalry with her frenemy Andi Browning. Andi wins everything they compete in and to add insult to injury, just recently got engaged to her ex-boyfriend. Jazzy wants to win the Cookie Bake-Off badly and needs help to win. When she finds out that Roan Sullivan was a championship baker himself, she tries to recruit him to teach her his techniques but he’s not having it. Roan has become somewhat of a curmudgeon after the death of his wife, and blames baking for taking him away at a critical time in his life. It takes Jazzy’s persistence to get him to change his mind and maybe also have a change of heart.
I love second chance love romances because the characters open up their hearts again and the journey can be heart-wrenching. In the beginning their closed off and that they don’t consider the possibility of finding love again. Roan was a single dad raising his young daughter and had enough on his plate. Starting a relationship, even a rebound friendship, was too much to handle, plus he felt old being 10 years older. Jazzy however was upfront with Roan and made her intentions known that she was attracted to him. He reluctantly agrees but realizes how much he enjoys his time with Jazzy and that the attraction is mutual. There are bumps here and there but that is all par for the course and it all works out for everyone. I do love an epilogue at the end of a story and this one I wish would have been more of it. The author has created another romantic story and it to be around the Christmas season is icing on the cake. I never like to see a Twilight story end because it is such a romantic town and the legacy of true love sweethearts is always on people’s minds.
The Cowboy Cookie Exchange by Lori Wilde is the 13th book in the Twilight Texas series, but is the only one I have read and I had no problems following this story. I really enjoyed this story about a hunky single dad, who is also an amazing cook, and a smart, sweet nurse who has had enough heartbreak that she wants nothing to do with romance. She also has a low self-esteem and Roan is just the guy to cure her of both these issues. Jazzy Walker is now single after her live-in boyfriend left her because she was "too upbeat". He is now engaged to her nemesis, Andi Browning, a bully and very nasty woman who acts like she is still in high school and that she is the "Mean Girl". Roan Sullivan meets Jazzy under less than perfect conditions and doesn't think much of her, but she bonds with his little girl when she is her nurse after a tonsillectomy. When Jazzy enters the annual cookie bake-off, she convinces Roan to teach her how to make cookies over a campfire. What could possibly go wrong?
Roan's and Jazzy's story is fun and sweet, but the interactions with Andi were very annoying. I enjoyed seeing them get closer together with their banter, humour and of course the time with Roan's daughter. This is a slow burn romance, and when things take a step back, there are secondary characters that help it take two steps forward. The characters are well written and I was rooting for Roan and Jazzy. The only character I disliked, a lot, was Andi. The author certainly portrayed this enemy of Jazzy well and I got to the point that I wanted her gone. As the story progressed, we see more of her reasons and past, but I still didn't like her, at all! If you liked a sweet romance, one where a character experiences growth, a cute kid and some splashes of Christmas, then I highly recommend this book for you. I enjoyed it so much, that I will be going back and reading the rest of the series, which has each full length novel set at Christmas. The audiobook was narrated by Lisa Zimmerman, a new narrator to me. She does a wonderful job with the voices using expression, tone and emotion to make the characters come alive for me. I will not hesitate to listen to books she narrates.
