This one is a 2.5 for me. If youngsters or their caregivers can scan the code on the back so they can read and sing along, the rating would be higher, but not every child or family has access to cellphones so they can do so. If someone reads the book with just the right of energy, zest, and emphasis, the onomatopoeia will be quite appealing, but if not, then it's just words on the page. In the hands of the right readers, this one will work since it uses repetitive language as well as posing a question, "Did you hear that?" that might prompt youngsters to listen carefully. The back cover indicates that this book could serve as an introduction to the symphony since it includes a trumpet, a cello, and a piano, instruments that are typically played during a performance. But it would also seem there is a need for flutes, violins, violas, and their exclusion might lead to confusion about the music to be heard at a symphony. For many young readers, their lack of familiarity with symphonies since the only music they may have heard played was on a radio or from a school or street band, this might be over their heads. Still, I appreciated the tear-resistant pages and the colorful artwork with talented animal musicians striking the right chords together.

A fun, interactive (if you participate with the noises and try to guess before turning the next page) visit to the symphony is in store for musicians and readers alike. One critique: the phrase 'brava' would have made an excellent addition to the final page, celebrating this tribute to the pieces of the symphony.
