This book was like a warm comfortable quilt that wrapped me up into the pages and captured my heart. I fell in love with the wonderful characters that made the story come to life. I enjoyed this book so much that I hated to see the end coming. A tender romance that grew from a long time friendship. What made the book seem more realistic was that it included bullying and abuse in one of the leading character’s past. The gifted author took the good and the bad and blended both together to make a beautiful story. Characters from book one of the series returned to this second book and made it a more enjoyable reading experience. I found Her Mountain Refuge to be very entertaining, a page turner, easy to read with a wonderful happily ever after ending.

Charlotte Tremaine had married into a wealthy Savanna Georgia family. It wasn’t a happy marriage because her husband Dylan Tremaine was an alcoholic and became abusive to Charlotte when he was drunk. When Charlotte tried to stop him from driving while he was drunk he beat her before he drove off in his car. That was the last time Charlotte seen Dylan alive and he left her widowed and pregnant with a pile of debt from his bad habits that she was expected to pay off. Not only that Dylan left Charlotte with a bitter, bossy Mother In Law who blamed the widow for her son’s death.

Things went from bad to worse in the following months after Dylan’s death. Elizabeth called all the shots and Charlotte began to secretly make plans to leave Savanna as soon as she could pay off her late husband’s debt. Her pregnancy was not going well and Charlotte passed out at a wedding while trying to fit the brides dress. This is where her best friend Logan Carter enters the story when he finds out Elizabeth needs him . Logan comes to her aid because they will “always” be there for one another when the going gets tough. Will Charlotte allow him to help her after the way they parted, before she married Dylan, over Logan’s objections?

I recommend this book to readers of Contemporary Romance and Love Inspired Romance books. This is book two of Laurel Blount’s Cedar Ridge series. I recommend reading these books in order because characters are carried over from book one to book two. It makes for a more enjoyable reading experience. This book is scheduled to be released on 5/24/22.

I was pulled into this sweet story from the beginning and loved every minute of it. I enjoyed a trip back to Cedar Ridge in the North Georgia mountains to visit with Ruby Sawyer and her six, now adult, children that she took in from the foster system. Logan, now a sheriff, reconnects with his best friend Charlotte after the death of her husband. This is such a tender love story, filled with bumps, but so heartwarming and touching. It hits all the right spots with friendship (always!), faith, love, loyalty, and hope. Highly recommended.

Her Mountain Refuge was a really great story. Charlotte and Logan had been close friends since they were teenagers. They hadn’t been in contact in years, though, after Charlotte married a man that Logan had reservations about. But, when Logan realized that widowed Charlotte and her unborn child were possibly in trouble, he jumped right back into her life and did everything he could to keep them safe. I loved the way these two picked up as the close friends they had “always” been.

Neither one thought that love or marriage would ever be in their futures. They were friends who were there for each other, but nothing more. They both had painful things from their pasts that made them leery of committing to someone else in that way. Yet, love prevailed. It was beautiful to see the way that love began to develop between them.

‘I have been praying and praying is a dangerous business.’

I love Laurel Blount’s work. She manages to engage the reader from the beginning and we are just invested in this book so much. Logan was a great hero here, one that every woman wants her husband to be like. His heart was wonderful. It was a great story and a keeper for sure. It also left me wanting more from this author. Well done!

My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. The opinion is my own in this review.

Her Mountain Refuge by Laurel Blount is a heartwarming story. Charlotte Tremaine is a widow who is seven months pregnant. She is under the thumb of her domineering mother-in-law, Elizabeth. Charlotte is trying to get her wedding dress design business off the ground. Her latest client is a doozy. Charlotte ends up in the hospital after passing out. The incident end up online. Sheriff Logan Carter sees the video and notices that Charlotte is wearing mother’s ring. That has always been her signal for help. Logan immediately heads to Savannah to see Charlotte. Charlotte’s doctor recommends relaxation and no stress which is not going to happen if Charlotte stays with Elizabeth Tremaine. Logan whisks her back to Cedar Ridge to stay with his former foster mother, Ruby on her farm in the mountains. Logan agrees to stay in the cabin nearby in case Ruby or Charlotte need him. Elizabeth is not a woman to be thwarted. She files for full custody of Charlotte’s unborn child. Logan will do whatever it takes to make sure that Charlotte does not lose her child. I enjoyed reading Her Mountain Refuge. I thought the characters were realistic and relatable. The story is well-written with steady pacing. I enjoyed getting to know Ruby, Charlotte, and Logan. We also get to meet Logan’s five foster siblings. Ruby is a delight. She wants to see all six of her foster children settled. She has successfully helped make one match which just spurs her on. I enjoyed the humor sprinkled throughout as well. I like that we get to catch up with the characters from Lost and Found Faith. I love the quilt that Ruby and Charlotte worked on. I enjoyed the beautiful description of the finished masterpiece. My favorite quote from Her Mountain Refuge is, “Try handing those raggedy plans of yours over to the Lord and see what He can do. You never know. He might add in a pretty new piece that pulls everything together real well.” I thought the author handled the topics of bullying and domestic abuse very well. The good and bad were woven together into one heartfelt tale. I loved the ending. I am glad that the author included an epilogue which nicely wrapped up the story plus tells us whose tale is next. Her Mountain Refuge is a book that you will want to take your time reading. Her Mountain Refuge has friendship, loyalty, hope, love, family, and faith. I am looking forward to Ryder Montgomery’s story which is next. Her Mountain Refuge is a touching tale with intimidating mother-in-law, a wedding dress disaster, a matchmaking foster mother, a fretful family, a devoted friend, and a shrewd solution.

I loved this return to Cedar Ridge and book two of the series! Ruby's matchmaking for her foster children continues with Sheriff Logan Carter and Charlotte, his best friend from high school. A fun read, this book resonates in all the right places. A twisty, unpredictable plot, characters so real, they seemed plucked from my own life, and a wonderfully satisfying ending. What's not to love? You don't want to miss this beautifully written story of hope and love.

Her Mountain Refuge is book #2 in Laurel Blount’s Cedar Ridge Series. As in book #1, I fell in love with this charming town. Charlotte Tremaine and Sheriff Logan Carter have been best friends since…ALWAYS. Their special word for each other since she sat down at a lonely boy’s lunch table in high school. Years later, she finds herself a pregnant widow living in Savannah, GA with her controlling mother-in-law. After a fainting spell, she wakes up in the hospital finding Logan sleeping in the recliner near her bed. She hasn’t seen him for years. Logan takes her home to Cedar Ridge to help Charlotte relax while she waits for the baby to come. She has a few secrets she’s scared to tell him. He might have a few secrets too.

I truly loved being back home in Cedar Ridge. I wanted to move right on in to Ruby’s (Logan’s foster mom) farmhouse or her rental cabin. I’d take either one. Such a lovely place to live. It was a beautiful love story that developed between two childhood best friends. I admit that I cried a lot of tears through their journey. Some were tears of joy. Some were tears of heartbreak. Laurel Blount knows how to draw you right in with her storytelling. I read the book in 1 day. I just couldn’t stop. I hope you will take the time to read about Charlotte and Logan. I know I can’t wait to visit Cedar Ridge again. Ruby’s up to her matchmaking ways and Ryder’s next.

Absolutely loved this book. The characters felt like part of my family and the storyline was so amazing. Sometimes the ones who were there for us in the past are the ones we need in the future.
The word always has special meaning in this story.

Amazing book...Beautifully written with exceptional details, engaging and compassionate characters...I truly enjoying reading this uplifting story.

It was richly developed showing how a devastating and emotionally pregnant young woman, Charlotte, was made to feel sadly insured, by her mother-in-law, whose deceased son, was physically abused Charlotte. I love how thoughtful Logan Rudy and his family was.

Like a favorite blanket, Laurel Blount’s Her Mountain Refuge wraps you in comfort and warmth as you journey to the Georgia mountains and settle in with Logan Carter and his patched together family.

This book is a friends-to-more romance with a dash of marriage of convenience thrown in there. I am always a huge fan of the friend romances because there is a huge history there and quick romances make sense because the couple knows each other so well already.

From the moment Logan saw Charlotte again, I was rooting for these two. Logan is a great hero—protective of his family, his town, and his friends. Once Logan brings you into his fold, he’s not going to let you down. That does come across as overprotective sometimes and I can see how that might wear a person out, but it’s also endearing.

Her Mountain Refuge hooked me from the start and held me there through the end, plus there’s a hint of more to come, which is perfect because there are some stories in these foster siblings’ lives that need to be told.

This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
Such a great story!
There were so many layers to the characters in this story. The "bad guys" weren't completely bad and the "good guys" weren't perfect.

Logan has all the right intentions but he still bulldozes Charlotte to do things his way. For all his bluster, deep down he is insecure.

Charlotte is really kind of the opposite. Her recent past gives her this fearful shell, that was so painful to witness, but time spent with her old friend and his foster mom bring out her old confident creative self.

Her Mountain Refuge is the second book in Laurel Blount’s Cedar Ridge about a group of adults who were foster siblings with the same single woman as their mom. I love how Blount features foster kids who have grown up and still consider themselves to be a family. I also appreciated her featuring a law enforcement officer in a positive light.
Foster kids often struggle with a sense of belonging and a sense of family. In Her Mountain Refuge, Sheriff Logan has a big heart and a sense of wanting to take care of “his own.” When Ruby, his foster mom, sees a former friend who has moved away on the news, she lets Logan know. He takes off to check on her because she appears to need help and support.
Her Mountain Refuge reminds me of God’s family - we are all His children and we should care for each other regardless of our differences.
Even though Her Mountain Refuge is an adult contemporary romance, there is nothing in the book that would keep it from being added to a K-12 Christian school library. I think high school girls and maybe older middle school girls would enjoy it.
I received a complimentary copy of Her Mountain Refuge. This is my honest review.

This is another book of Laurel Blount’s I couldn’t put down. Such down to earth characters and a storyline that gripped you from the beginning. Favorite quote: “God never wastes our hurts, but he sure ain’t shy about using them as a starting place. If you give Him the chance, he’ll take all that ugliness and turn it into something real special.” Recommend!

Hallmarks of Author Laurel Blount books are relatable characters and exhilarating storylines. Her latest, Her Mountain Refuge is successful in drawing the reader into the story. A true hero, Sheriff Logan Carter, is self-sacrificing, generous, and at times gallant. Charlotte Tremaine, a friend from Logan’s childhood, has a painful past. It takes determination and perseverance on Logan’s part to convince her it is okay to trust again. Can he encourage her to face the secrets from her past? Truly a story of hope, inspiration, and forgiveness. I recommend this as an addition to the top of your to-be-read pile!

I cannot rave about this precious novel enough! I devoured it within hours and loved all the warm, fuzzy feelings that enveloped me. No, Charlotte is not in the best situation. Actually, she's quite literally hit rock bottom and here comes her childhood friend Logan to rescue her, and help her find her way back home. How can you not root for a man who has a heart of gold and a woman that is lost in life?

I found myself identifying with Charlotte in so many ways. Who among us hasn't made life choices that led to our demise? I know I haven't! I just wish I would've had a knight in shining armor who would give me the world on a silver platter like Logan does. Logan is the perfect example of overcoming unsavory circumstances and rising above the lot you're given in life. I adore him and his family, especially sweet Ruby.

This is definitely a story of good versus evil, with Ruby playing the part of saint, and matchmaker, and Mrs. Tremaine is evil personified. Poor Charlotte is in the middle, not only wrestling with her own identity crisis, but life as a widow and future mother.

I seriously enjoyed every aspect of this novel, finding myself grinning one moment and growling the next. Laurel Blount does such incredible work of bringing you into these worlds, and giving you such amazingly fleshed out characters that you can see it all in your minds eye. I love that there is a set up for future matchmaking stories and I can't wait again be inspired.

HER MOUNTAIN REFUGE by Laurel Blount is the fabulously well-written and compelling story of Charlotte Tremaine and Sheriff Logan Carter.

Charlotte’s life wasn’t quite as she had expected or hoped. She thought she was marrying the guy of her dreams only to find out after the wedding that he was abusive and completely cowed down to his domineering mother, who thought her financial status entitled her to whatever she wanted. Her husband’s sudden death left her deeply in debt and expecting a baby. With nowhere to turn or the finances to even try, she too finds herself under her mother-in-law’s domination. With a light at the end of the tunnel hope, she is relying on her business as a wedding gown designer to make enough money to get her and her soon to arrive baby out of her mother-in-law’s clutches. When an angry bride pushes her over the edge, Charlotte finds herself in the hospital fighting to keep her unborn baby safe and sound.

Sheriff Logan Carter hadn’t had an easy childhood, but thanks to Ruth, his foster mom who opened her home and her heart, he’s learned to not only survive but to flourish. Ruth through the years took in children that had nowhere to go and arrived with load of baggage from rough beginnings. Through love and determination, they all became a family full of love for one another and knowing there was finally someone that had their back. It was Ruth that brought Charlotte’s predicament to Logan’s attention, but it was seeing the ring on her right hand that made up his mind that he had to get to his friend’s side. It had always been the sign that she was in trouble.

Over the last few years, their relationship had been strained. Logan had seen through Dylan’s façade, but Charlotte was always trying to save the underdog. After all, that’s how their friendship had started when she thought he was all alone and in need of a friendly smile back in their school days and he was the new kid. In the only time he’d ever spouted off, he had told her not to come crying when her heart got trampled. She hadn’t, but he also remembered their word with special meaning – ALWAYS.

One look at Charlotte laying in that hospital bed was all it took for Logan to know he would do anything to help his friend. For the first time in ages, Charlotte felt like there was peace and hope when she caught a glimpse of Logan in her room. When Mrs. Tremaine made it clear that after her grandson’s birth that she was going after full custody by portraying Charlotte as unfit and unworthy of being a parent, Logan knew he would move heaven and earth to prevent it. He starts by taking Charlotte back to Cedar Ridge –so she can relax and gain her strength while preparing for the birth of her son and away from the stress of her business and Mrs. Tremaine.

Will Mrs. Tremaine’s vast resources mean that it’s a lost battle before they even start? What does the arrival of Logan’s deadbeat Dad mean? Can Logan keep Charlotte safe while protecting his own heart? Can Charlotte see the goodness of Logan’s heart and it cause her own to open up again to possibilities? Will Ruth’s matchmaking bring them together or drive them to running in opposite directions? When the friend that Logan contacts, who is also a great attorney, states that Charlotte’s chances would greatly improve if she was in a stable relationship actually lead to drastic measures being taken? Can Charlotte find the strength to confront her mother-in-law? Is it possible for a marriage in name only to become an “always” marriage?

HER MOUNTAIN REFUGE is an inspirational love story that will have you falling in love with the characters, turning pages to find out what’s going to happen next and hoping for a happily ever after. Laurel Blount delivers it all within the pages of this amazing story as she touches on the fate of foster kids, abusive relationships, true and undying friendships and even acceptance and forgiveness. We learn that family isn’t always by blood but often times by bond and that love doesn’t always knock you off your feet, but may be like a flower seed that sprouts and grows until eventually it’s seen for the true beauty that it is although unlike the flower, true love never dies. If you’re looking for a can’t put down book that will leave you feeling good, then HER MOUNTAIN REFUGE is the book for you. Most definitely gets my FIVE STAR recommendation!

While reading this book, it didn’t take long for me to feel at home in the small town community of Cedar Ridge. This book has a “best friends to romance” theme that touched my heart and had me hoping that everything would come together for Charlotte and Logan to have a happy marriage. The more I came to know Charlotte, Logan, Ruby, and their extended family, the more I was drawn into the story. I loved all three of these characters and had great sympathy for the sad situations in Charlotte’s past. With books of this length, it can be tendency for the storyline to seem rushed, but I never felt that with this story. The author did a lovely job of making this story feel as if I’d read a full-length novel.

Please note this: Charlotte’s story has instances of physical abuse from her husband. These instances are not described in detail, but more as an explanation for Charlotte’s fears. If this is could be a trigger for you, please be aware of this before you read the book.

I am always looking forward to reading the next book from Laurel Blount. If you haven’t previously read one of her books, you’ll enjoy this one.

Sometimes, going home is just what we need, and this is the case with Charlotte Tremaine. Home to Cedar Ridge, Georgia---the place where she first became friends with Logan Carter and his foster mother, Ruby. Now, it may be the place where she can escape her domineering mother-in-law and find a safe haven until her baby is born.

Oh, how I loved this story! Her Mountain Refuge covers so many relevant topics: spousal abuse, foster care, and trying to find your way when life seems overpowering. It is also, however, a sweet story of enduring friendship and the power of hope, with characters that you won't forget. Charlotte needs help, Logan is an amazing hero who's ready to sacrifice all, and then, there's Ruby. She may not have given birth to her foster children, but no mother has ever loved more! She's also a confirmed matchmaker in need of a new couple to unite!!!

Her Mountain Refuge is a lovely inspirational romance, and I can't wait to go back to Cedar Ridge, Georgia. I need to see what Ruby has in store for her other foster children. Great job, Laurel Blount!

My 5 star ++ review of Laurel Blount's Her Mountain Refuge.
Firstly, I should like to thank Laurel Blount for gifting me this ARC in return for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
If there were more than 5 stars to award then this would be one book I would give them to. A plot so beautifully crafted in writing that was a delight and a wonder to read. Even a couple of today's issues were brought home to us but ever so gently and with care not only for those reading but for the characters being written about. It was difficult to not think this was a family I knew and was friends with. They all became so vivid and to me. This book was a picture painted in words and could be considered a brilliant piece. Yes, I liked the story, the settings, the plot, the writing. There was really nothing about this book that I didn't like. We had drama, happiness, sadness and all emotions in between. We laughed and we cried with the characters and were rooting for them when needed.
If you are a Laurel Blount fan then this is a MUST read for you and you know exactly what I am talking about. If you have never experienced the beauty of a Laurel Blount book then please pick this one up and add it to your reading. You won't be disappointed and know that if you love this book, Laurel also writes the most wonderful Amish Fiction.
Thank you again Laurel for gifting me with this ARC, and for allowing me the privilege to be one of the advanced readers of your works.

From Logan’s “never” to Charlotte’s “never again”, God has a way of changing hearts when it comes to love and marriage. And sometimes he uses a matchmaker extraordinaire to bring it all together.

This trip back to Georgia is Laurel Blount’s second Love Inspired Inspirational Romance set in the little town of Cedar Ridge.

Logan Carter and Charlotte Tremaine were best friends since high school, but life had sent them in different directions. After Charlotte’s high society marriage in Savannah ended in tragedy–leaving her pregnant and at the mercy of her controlling mother-in-law–Logan shows up to protect her. Taking her back to Cedar Ridge where she can escape the stress, trouble follows her in the form of a threatened custody battle with her wealthy in-laws. A marriage of convenience is the only way out, so best friends become husband and wife. And Logan’s matchmaking momma is ready to step in and use the situation to her advantage. With the birth of Charlotte’s baby, things only get more complicated–both their troubles and their feelings. But in the end, love always wins. Always.

I had looked forward to this trip back to Cedar Ridge–and reading Logan’s story– and as usual Laurel didn’t disappoint! I can’t wait to find a little glimpse of them in her next installment in this Cedar Ridge, Georgia series! Another one added to my Laurel keeper shelf!

Her Mountain Refuge by Laurel Blount was inspiring and sweet. I loved the small town mountain setting of Cedar Ridge, Georgia, and how the author made the characters of Charlotte Tremaine and Sheriff Logan Carter come alive on the page. Although there were some serious issues addressed, the book was a joy to read. At this time when things are going so wrong in the world, it is wonderful to be able to get lost in a book and the plot and characters and know you’ll get a happy ending. I especially liked the friends to lovers theme and the fact that families come in all forms. Charlotte’s two mothers-in-law were as different as night and day. I loved Ruby’s not so subtle matchmaking efforts. The pacing was perfect and the suspense made the book a page-turner. I’m looking forward to reading more about the Logan family from this author. A highly recommended read.

Charlotte Tremaine had a tender, compassionate heart that saw people who needed a friend. After making an unwise choice to marry a wealthy, spoiled, hurting man sh his left with the aftermath of widowhood and pregnancy. I loved seeing that her childhood friend, Logan Carpenter, whom she befriended now needed to rescue her and her baby.

There were several characters who were precious. Logan was a sweet, caring man who is the kind of man you’d like to see your sister marry. I was happy to see that he stood by Charlotte and baby Danny when times got rough. I loved Logan’s foster mother who was a blatant matchmaker and a fierce defender of all those she loved. This was a beautiful love story, the second book in the Cedar Ridge Series.

I received a complimentary arc copy of this book. All opinions expressed here in this review are my own thoughts.

A sweet story, Her Mountain Refuge is a must read! Pregnant widow, Charlotte, wakes up in the hospital & finds herself in the clutches of her rich, vindictive, manipulative mother-in-law. Charlotte, a dress designer, faints at an upscale wedding, while dealing with the "bridezilla." Sheriff Logan Carter, Charlotte's dear friend from high school, happens to see Charlotte on the news & recognizes their secret signal saying Charlotte is in trouble. Logan sweeps in & wisks Charlotte off to his foster mothers farm, where a series of twist & turn events unfold.

The captivating story, drew me in, as I fell in love with the characters, feeling like I was actually there & part of their unique family. You'll love this warm, engaging story of hurt, betrayal, healing & renewed love. As the story unfolds, you see how the hand of God leads, even when you dont think you want to go in that direction.

You can't go wrong with one of Laurel Blounts books!!
