A standalone dark romantic suspense novel by USA Today Bestselling author Nikita Slater.

*Please Lotus is the extended version of 7 Days, which was originally published in the Killing Me Softly Anthology*

Erik knows he's different.

But so is Letty.

They've both lived and worked in the shadows of the underworld. Erik as a mercenary for hire, Letty as a safe cracker. They know the score. Never trust anyone, never work with the same crew twice. Do the job, walk away, never look back.

Erik looked back. Then he followed, then he infiltrated every aspect of Letty's life. He has a plan and she's now part of it, whether she likes it or not.

He'll wine her, he'll dine her, he'll show her a good time. All in the comfort of her own home. She deserves only the best. But she must be handled carefully. Courted with calculated precision. He can't fail because losing Letty isn't an option.

He has seven days to make her love him and he refuses to take no for an answer.

Lotus is a captive love story and will be the first novel in Nikita Slater's brand new dark romantic suspense series, Agents of Casa de Flores. Guaranteed HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger.

This story seemed really long to me, which led to me taking that half of a star away. There were a few spots where I felt like Lotus and Erik's book was too focused on her sister's (Rose) possible future book, rather than just telling the story of this couple. Those scenes had me losing interest, even though at the same time, had me wanting to read their book, should there eventually be one. So while it was a draw to read future books, it also put me off of this one just a bit.

All that being said, I loved the Stockholm syndrome storyline, and feel like it was done really well, and in an accurate way were it to have been reality. The captive trope is probably my favorite one, so I figured this one would be up my alley, and it very much was. The writing was good, and other than the sister parts, I was completely invested in their story. There were a couple of minor plot holes towards the end that I felt didn't get answered, but they weren't anything pivotal to the story, so I can't imagine it would bother too many other readers. Over all, a really great read, and one that I'd recommend to readers who love dark storylines.

Excellent

Fantastic start to the series. I enjoyed the dynamic between Letty and Erik. Usually in their situation, the heroine is always the one to compromise and make allowances but Erik didn't account for how he'd feel about that.

I'm looking forward to Rose's story.

I absolutely fell in love with both Letty and Erik in 7 Days, therefore this book intrigued me, falling in love with them all over again was just what I needed! I can't believe how much I adored this book, and I can say that I'm ecstatic that I read it!!

Nikita had an extremely fascinating way of telling you the stories you had no idea you wanted to hear, until she tells it to you. Erik, her fierce, unyielding alpha man is prevailing over his women with well crafted tactics to make her fall for him in this one, and it's definitely one that made me fall in love with him on every level! I crave a man who's only good for his woman, which is where this book really delivers you the perfect experience! The added scenes definitely created a much different experience, and definitely worth it!!

Letty and Erik are both getting added to the harem, I think they're planning something....

This was maybe 3.5 stars instead of 3 but I wouldn’t go so far as to round up to 4. The last 30% wasn’t really my cup of tea so I struggled to keep reading.

So he’s a mercenary for hire, a Jack of all trades. She’s been trained by facility in espionage. Her thing is safe cracking. He fell for her in a love at first sight way. She thought he was creepy. He stalks her for 4 years and then acts on his plan to take her.

He traps her in her apartment and gives her 7 days to fall in love. He’s got “dates” planned. He’s keeping her at the end whether she wants to be kept or not. Of course she starts out hating him but ends up falling for him just as he intended. If we’re being honest it’s really Stockholm syndrome but that doesn’t really matter. She thinks she’s in love so I’ll take it.

I did admire his determination but it felt a bit too easy. The only thing he hadn’t predicted or planned for was feeling a sliver of guilt for her unhappiness with his plans. I needed more than him musing to himself that he was surprised for 2 pages about his “guilty feelings”. I wanted the struggle between them. I wanted him to feel actual anguish over her unhappiness and *adjust his plans accordingly*. It was all so easy I felt disappointed.

Then the train wreck that was the last 30%. This just missed the mark for me. After she goes with him the last 30% of the book deals with the practicalities of them being together with Casa De Flores being after them and other issues surrounding Casa De Flores and h’s family. Some of its set up for future books. Casa De Flores is clearly going to be an issue for everyone going forward. It’s totally a personal preference but I came for their relationship I don’t care about spies and assassins so I had a hard time forcing the last 30% down.

Medium burn, they have sex around 46%. I HATE slow burns, I tolerate medium burns but the sex here was also too quick and easy for this situation. It was weird to feel disappointed they were having sex.

No virgins
Massive push away from h
Dubcon, author tries to pretend like it’s not dubcon but it absolutely is
No OW drama
No real OM drama
No separation but he stalks her for 4 years and she’s unaware
No cheating
HEA for couple

Safety - 100% safe, from the moment H sees h he is completely loyal to her. He had only used prostitutes before for practical reasons. The h is unaware of H so she tries to date but he scares away every man she attempts to go out with. So she’s also celibate for 4 years.

This romance definitely has trigger warnings. Kidnapping, stalking, and dubious consent.

SPOILER PSOILER SPOILER SPOILER

The hero has been stalking her for 4 years. She never knew. He is convinced he is in love with her and decides to make her love him. He planned for years to retire (with her) and live happily ever after.

She wakes up one morning and she is locked in her apartment. Windows are boarded up, walls covered in concrete, front door a metal fire door that only opens with a code put in by the hero's cell phone (lock is on the outside of the door so she can't touch it without his phone).

He tells her he loves her and he is giving her 7 days to fall in love with him. She says she won't love him and what happens after 7 days? He says she'll go with him either way.

Of course they fall in love and live happily ever after. It turns out Casa de Flores is an evil organization that takes little girls and turns them into espionage agents. They stole her from her parents at 4 years old. She didn't remember. Hero reunites her with her parents. They all live happily ever after on an island in different homes.

3.5 - 4 stars.

soo good. i love when an insanely obsessed hero woos his captive heroine with the determination and calculation of a chess grandmaster. and yeah, he kept her captive, but like... in the sweetest way possible, and without cruelty or abuse. he courted her intensely and without giving her a choice, but it never crossed any lines i didn't enjoy.

the first 60% deserve at least 4 stars. but the rest drag the rating down.
i can FEEL how this book is an extended version of a story. it's too long. i can even pinpoint the point in the story where it should've ended (maybe that's the place the extension starts, idk, I haven't read the short version).
from the ~60-65% mark and onwards, the story is suddenly too convoluted. there's a bunch of spy stuff going on, an evil organization doing evil stuff, and also a bunch of teasers for (might-be-)upcoming books about the side characters. it was too much.
the story had, up until that point, been neat with a well thought out plot. it didn't need anything more added to it.

even so, it's going on my shelf for my favorite nikita slater reads! but if i reread this book in the future, i think I'll stop reading at the 70% mark.

Lotus has the most difficult thing for any author to achieve: a very likable heroine. I love NS's irrepressible female leads, and of course the heroes are always possessive and protective to the best extreme. It was fun to see Erik dealing with the reality of carrying out his plan. I love the world building in this and look forward to seeing future books about the Agents. :)

Something Different

I'm glad she's doing something different this time! Obsession love with less rough sex and pain. This book also has a meaning for the violence and not just because the people are sex driven, more a power fix! I had stopped reading her work but this one got me hooked again!

So good!

One of the best books I've read this year. Exactly what I was looking for, an over the top, unhinged, obsessive and possessive anti hero that we all love. I want an Erik, can someone please find me an Erik?! 😅

the positive... a man who will do anything to win you over. knows your likes and dislikes. finds your long lost family. provides an acceptance you have been looking for.
So, the negative... ummm, falling in love with the man who is holding you captive? timeline to complete this action? choices that are not really choices at all?
