I had one job — get my life back in line. It didn't say anything about me falling for the office vampire. My steering myself into insanely absurd situations. First day in the job, and my new boss turns out to be my mysterious hookup from the other weekend. Whoops! Classic Charly. Gabriel filthy rich vampire CEO, powerful business man, handsome as sin — and totally off limits. Keeping my distance is easier said than done. Be it in conference rooms, on our way to client meetings, through the glass walls of our offices — our smoldering gazes could melt a bank safe. How am I supposed to keep things professional when every little glance from him sets my panties on fire? But try as he might, he can’t stay clear, either. Turns out I’m just his type. His blood type. He killed his predatory instincts half a century ago, not needing a single drop of blood ever since — until he ran into me. Now he's frantically keeping himself from biting me. Because that would turn him back into a normal vampire. Bloodthirsty, sensitive to the sun, out of control. And he is such a control freak. And oh boy, do I like to be controlled. ---- This sizzling romance can be enjoyed as a standalone, HEA guaranteed. Also a bold and sassy heroine, a scheming Vampire/CEO confronted with his primal needs - and enough steam to melt your kindle.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Actual rating of 4.5
Charly has one job at the moment. Get her life back together and get on track to making something worthwhile of herself. But when she starts her new job at her brother's company, she runs into her weekend hookup who is introduced as her brother's partner - Gabriel Renard. Now she's going to have to try her damned hardest to ignore the pull she feels towards Gabriel if she wants to make her brother happy. And as much as Gabriel feigns indifference, he also feels the pull, even though he's gotten his predator under control, something about Charly brings it to the surface again. So for her sake and the sake of his business, he must keep things professional. Can they really ignore a pull this strong?
I was lucky enough to read an ARC of the first Paranormal Roommates book, which was a cute sunshine/storm cloud romance that made me smile. So I was ecstatic to find the ARC for this instalment in my inbox last week!
First off I want to make a point at how different the Paranormal Roommates stories are to each other. While they're similar at the core, a couple fighting against everything to try and stay away from each other while we watch a romance build and blossom, they're both very different from each other. I found the first book to be very cozy and sweet, while this book was primal, darker, and had a lot more of a sense of urgency to it. I love the juxtaposition between the two, and I think that so far, this one is my favourite of the series.
We get to meet Gabriel in book 1, but we don't see much of him, this book allowed us to really get a feel for him as a character and he turned out so much different to what I was expecting! As a secondary character he came across as very logical, put together, and in control, where as a primary character we got to see the struggles that he faces daily, the issues that keep cropping up and that he has to deal with and we also learnt a lot more about his past and his family, which I thought was brilliant. I loved his character being so rounded out and I loved getting to know him. I absolutely adored Charly's character, she's a woman after my own heart. I love that she's a metal head and she made me nostalgic for my clubbing days (I used to attend metal clubs twice a week for many years), I could really relate to her aesthetic. I also loved that she was so flawed. She's been through some stuff, and while she is a strong character, she does have her moments of severe weakness and compliance even when it's detrimental to herself. She has issues that she's trying to work through all the while trying to be someone that her remaining family can be proud of. I didn't hate her brother, but I didn't love him either, I feel like he didn't give her much credit, he was so sure that if he didn't help her she'd end up in a ditch somewhere, unable to take care of herself and that really irked me about him, and don't even get me started on her father, that man made me RAGE! I feel like the character building and development, as well as the relationship building, really lends credit to Cane's ability in her craft. Being able to write a secondary character (Charly's father) that we pretty much meet once and have nothing to do with, but he can still elicit such strong emotions is a master stroke.
The story itself is a romance at heart, but it's not an easy one. There were many times that I had to remind myself that this is marketed as a romance, so we would be getting a HEA, but there were times I actually questioned if this was possible. There is a tiny hint of mystery here when it comes to a dragon and breach, and there's also the underlying story behind Gabriel's brother and his intentions. This felt like a very character driven story to me, which is great, I love strong characters that have so much personality it feels like they're actually standing beside me telling me their story. There is a sense of urgency that I felt was much stronger in this instalment than the first, and I also found this story to be a touch darker, which I absolutely loved. I prefer to read darker stories, so that worked brilliantly for me.
I don't want to go into too much detail because I don't want to give anything away. But all in all, this was a great addition to this series and I feel like it really illustrates the scope of Cane's writing ability. To be able to create two similar stories that were so different to each other in so many ways is brilliant; while still having the same world and us having cameos from the first book's characters that stayed true to their personalities. I do believe that Cane is a writer to watch and I am looking forward to reading about Kai! I'm so excited to get to know her more and I can't wait.
This was such a cute and funny story, I love rom coms but add in the vampire storyline and I’m done for. Gabriel and Charly have a unexpected run in and it leads the way for a vegan vampire and his new free spirited and funny obsession Charly but he’s not even remotely happy about the many different feelings that she brings out of him
Vampire Boss is the second book in Emily’s Paranormal Roommates series featuring the story of Gabriel and Charly. The book is told in dual POV and can be read as a stand-alone.
Gabriel is a vegan vampire - which is so unique - who no longer consumes human blood and Charly is a young woman who is trying to move on from a traumatizing previous relationship.
As the story goes on, you’re taken on a whirlwind of plot twists and layers as you learn about the characters and their development as well as chasing after each other. It was a good story with mild steam but good development and some amusing scenes.
A vampire story that pushes the vegan lifestyle. (insert eye roll here) A little different than most vampire stories I've read so it was interesting without the same old cliches. Charly is a self destructive whiny heroine that clings to her past & Gabriel is the hot vampire boss. They start a relationship that causes problems with both of their families. There are some side stories with the supporting cast of friends who have their own books but can be read as stand alone. Decent story and I might come back to the series to read about the friends.
Hot-hot-hot 😍... while deep-deep-deep ... This one is my favorite one so far. Ms. Cane will have to work really hard to top that! If you've read my review of Book 1, you know I already loved the first one. But Book 2 in the series is even more steamy, and I feel that the author has fully grown into her voice now. Consider well wether you dare read this in public or not, my friends. 😇 My ears turned red like a pitaya in hot summer august on my commute to work! 🌶 But apart from all the steamy scenes and the witty humor, this time I found myself drawn even deeper into the backstories of the characters, aka Charly and Gabriel. Both of them carry deep deep wounds--and as a reader I felt them. It is not just about the vampire versus the human. It goes so much deeper than a lot of other paranormal stories. I don't want to give away too much, because there is also danger and suspense and mysteries heading your way ... So, you'll have to see for yourself. If you're anything like me and you want EVERYTHING in just one book, give it a try!
**I was given this story as an ARC reader in exchange for a fair & independent rewiew.**
I am so excited to have found this author. I received an ARC copy about Gabriel and Charlie's story and then I went and finished also Claudio's and Lilly's. Although it was in the wrong order, these books can be read as standalones as well.
This story is wonderful! Emily Cane blends paranormal and contemporary lifestyle so effortlessly, it makes me think "hey that could be real!" Maybe in a parallel universe these two could actually work. It's so refreshing to read something different and the writing style is so addictive. The book is written in dual POV and there are characters from the first book playing a significant role.
Charly is a young woman who once was a child prodigy but after an accident she had to face a harsh reality. She lives a very wild life and then ends up with the wrong boyfriend who treats her as a pet and abuses her not only verbally but also physically. With the help of her brother and one friend she tries to put all this past behind her only to fall - literally - in the arms of Gabriel. This is where the story takes a turn, as Gabriel is actually a Vampire, a vegan Vampire to be exact. He turned vegan so that he can stop wanting human blood and when the love of his life - in this century - dies in her 70s, he has an existential life crisis. The problem is that Charly is not just a human to him, she is someone very special and as much as he tries to avoid her, it simply can not be done. Their encounter starts steamy, ends awkwardly in the 1st night and then picks up again when Charly starts working in the same company. From then on, it's one surprise after the other.
Regarding the side characters, Charly's father is a piece of work, or P.O.S. to be exact and her brother treats her also poorly when the truth of the affair is out. I think Charly was too easy to forgive him but in the gran scheme, maybe it doesnt make sense to hold grudges. Gabriel's roommates are awesome and his brother is another piece of work...
The story has multiple layers and twists and turns and the author uses her characters to explain their past so we understand what has happened, instead of the time-shift narration which can be tiring. Charly and Gabriel are well developed characters with strengths and flaws, and you could actually feel their struggle. I felt sorry for Gabriel and the fact that as a vampire he would always outlive his human partner (such a shame :) ) and Charly for having suffered so much by her father and her ex boyfriend.
All in all, I enjoyed this so much and I did not expect the book to turn out so fascinating and different. Cant wait for Kai's (the other roommate) story...
Steam: 2/5 Strong Language: Minimal Triggers: Mild Violence, mostly of a magical nature
This is a paranormal romance between a 401 year old, taciturn vampire and a 20 something, free spirited human. Vampire Boss is the second book in the Paranormal Roommates series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. (I read this book first with no problem and enjoyed it so much, I downloaded book one) The world building in this book is excellent. Ms. Cane creates memorable, relatable characters. She has taken the "rules of vampirism" as we know them from past books and movies, and given them a fresh twist. Her story also has a wonderful mix of secondary characters, both friends and foes. Ultimately, it is the love story between Gabe and Charly that drives this novel. Whether you are human or not, 40 or 400, love makes us vulnerable to someone else. It requires us to Trust. Can their fledgling relationship survive family prejudices, their pasts, and paranormal dangers? "Love alters not when it alteration finds."
I received an ARC Copy of this book for free. The opinion is my own, no compensation was offered or received. This was my first book by this author.

5 ⭐ I loved it. I’ll revisit it like an old friend. This book is moving right into my favorites category. I would recommend it to everyone, even people that don’t ask. I’ll one click this author’s work in the future. 4 ⭐ A great read. I’ll probably reread again when feeling nostalgic. It was very enjoyable, not portable magic. I would recommend it to a friend. 3 ⭐ I liked it. It was a nice way to pass the time. I doubt I’ll reread it. I’d recommend it to someone asking for a specific genre. Thanks for the memories. 2 ⭐ I completed the Herculean task of finishing this book. At times, it felt like I was Prometheus and the suffering would never end. It just wasn’t for me but I applaud the author for their effort. 1 ⭐ I couldn’t finish this book or I wish I hadn't finished. How do I put this? It’s not me, it’s you.
This Is book two of the paranormal roommates series and after reading book two I definitely need to read book one this book had humour the paranormal's were relatable the word building was great and the ending was fast and dramatic so I definitely want to read more from the author.
Gabriel the Vampire that looks allot like a certain Fae Lagolise spends allot of time working and keeping to a strict vegan diet but one meeting at a rock concert he didn't even want to be at he suddenly can't suppress his vampire side good thing he split out before his nature took over and he won't make that mistake again because he won't see her again.
Charlie her life is over she starts work for brother he's helped her out but a normal office job how boring its only for a year then all debts will be paid and one last night of freedom her favorite band is having a concert. She never thought landing on a hot guy would lead to so many problems especially when Mr. Hottie leaves her in a delicate situation what just happened. Well it only gets better when she discovers Mr Hottie pants on fire is her new Boss he co-owns the company with her brother she's going to need allot of water to put out this much heat why won't he give in its not like she's asking for eternity or is she that stupid Dragon and her crazy ex pluse Gabriel's family may decide differently for both of them. Who needs enemies when you have family like there's.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this ARC and this is my honest review.
Where to start? This is the second book in this roommates series and as much as I really liked the first one, this is so far my favorite. In the first book where we meet Gabriel he is a bit different from this one. Gabriel was organized, in control and a bit more laid back yet since this is his story the author takes us deeper into the Gabriel that no one really sees. Which honestly just endeared me even more. Then we have Charly who is the younger sister of Gabriels' business partner. She is a mess. Her brother is a bit pushy and makes her work for him to get her life together even if it's not what she wants. Honestly she has no idea what that is at this time. She is a wild child and is outcast from her father and her brother is really only trying to help her. Well on her first day of work she runs into Gabriel who just happens to be a hook-up she had right before taking this job not knowing who he is and thats how this book starts. Lots of drama, heat and watching two people (one who happens to be a vampire....Gabriel), both work through their issues and fight an attraction that can't be won.
This second book was a bit more primal even a bit darker yet it was presented in a manner that made sense. We still get to have times with Gabriels roommates, Kai, Claudio and his witchy other half (book 1 people). So along with the the darker theme (not to dark) the author still finds time to add a bit of humor into the mix. Next up? Kai's story and Oh Boy! I can't wait to see how that works out. LOL!
Vampire Boss is book 2 in the Paranormal Roommates series by Emily Cane, but can be read as a standalone book.
Vampire Gabriel, Gabe , is not your typical vampire. He maybe over 400 years old, but he certainly doesn't act it... He has cracked the code... since turning vegan, he is not bound by the usual vampire rules & he can tolerate the sun like any other person. Gabe hasn't got the urge to bite, until he meets Charly.... Charly, a human, who has plenty of non human friends, much to her family's dislike , has to start living in the real world. Thanks to her brother, who helped her through university and got her a job at his company. But Charly is reluctantly giving up her wild life. One more wild weekend, what could go wrong... Starting her new job, who is her new boss, beside her brother? Yup, Gabe...
This book has it all, steamy romance, interfering families, dark secrets, comedy, ancient& outdated traditions, dragons, yes, you read that right. And plenty of baggage to sort through...
The storyline flows well and the characters are well thought out and are easily liked. If you read book 1, you'll like the returning faces.
Vampire Boss is more steamy than Demon Roommate, but no complaints here. I really enjoyed reading this perfectly balanced Paranormal romance with extra bite... Bring on book 3!
Fascinating Paranormal Read with a Twist! Gabriel Renard and Charly's love story is captivating. We first met Gabriel in Book 1 and had hints into his past as a nontraditional vampire. Now we get his intriguing story and are introduce to Charly who becomes his obsession and has him struggling not revert to traditional vampire characteristics. Charly is struggling to get her life on the right track and repay her brother for all he has done to help her. Obstacles are coming at her from all directions though. This is a steamy love story with personal struggles, blood thirst, drama, danger and suspense. It is well written and the chemistry between the characters is outstanding. Did not want to put it down till I finished the last page. Cannot wait to read Book 3 about Kai, the 3rd roommate. I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.
Thanks to Emily for the eARC of Vampire Boss in exchange for an honest unbiased review
Vampire Boss is the second in the paranormal roommates series and can be read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed reading this to start with, the main character Charly had to prove herself to her brother and her father and she seemed like she was on her way up. However I felt like throughout the book she reverted back to that old person and here she was again pleasing everyone else even though it made her unhappy. Gabriel on the other hand was the typical brooding vampire that made him perfect for Charly and the chemistry between them was hot.
Emily's writing skills are definitely second to none the way she writes is marvelous creating the characters and bringing the story together. The pacing isn't as fast as I expected and did find it a bit slow in places. However it is a good story and I think people will find it enjoyable.
Opposites attract? Gabriel Renard: Handsome, French, Tattooed Vampire, Intelligent & rich, a little OCD Gabriel: “Why did I come to this concert?”
Charly: Beautiful, Reckless, A Heavy-Metal band loving girl with a free spirit and a wild side Charly: Plows into Gabriel at the concert and soaks his clothes with beer as she falls. No worries she will run into him again in a couple of days as he’s her new boss!
Vampire Boss was a surprise in that it had some rom com adventures, a terrible ex, two dysfunctional families and a very sweet romance. The character development and story were great. I enjoyed this book very much. I had moments of laughing out loud and waiting to see what would happen next.
I’m offering an honest review of Vampire Boss. I received a free ARC from Emily Cane through my book club. This is the first book I have read from Ms. Cane and I look forward to reading more as this book was a wonderful read.
✨Sassy heroin, brothers best friend, vampires, office romance, hot boss, a mean dragon, a seriously crazy ex, and great friends...this book has it all✨
This is book two in the paranormal roomates series. I read the first book of this as well. This book is super cute and incorporates some of the first books characters, as well as the ones that still haven't found love (hopefully they call get HEA's, too).
Gabriel (Gabe) is a dark, broody 400+ vampire, and Charolette (Charly) is a 20 something, sassy, spunky human.
I love how these two meet. After the night the shared, neither of them thought they would see each other again. Until they realize, Charly is Gabe's best friends....little sister, and working for the company they own. Their story has so much packed into one story, it kept you reading just waiting to see what would happen next.
I was a little...mad....I guess you could say about Gabe not letting Charly decide what she really wants, or listening when she tries to explain what she wants…but at the same time, I get where he was coming from, as well.
Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review. This was a different spin on the usual paranormal romance that I usually read but it was interesting and thoroughly enjoyable to read.
Loved that the paranormals and humans are living/working together side by side so for once the focus isn't on the secrecy or killing of paranormals. So you get to read about different kinds of paranormals and the romance that is possible between them. The chemistry between Gabriel (Gabe) and Charlotte (Charly) is sizzling and there is a mix of insta-connection and slow burn as Gabe tries to fights his attraction to her, to keep her safe. The story and plot plays out well, with a nice twist that I didn't fully expect. With a strong cast of well developed main characters and side characters that kept this funny and interesting, it was a compelling and enjoyable read to me!
I received an ARC of this e-book in exchange for an honest review. This was a fun read. A light vampire (and other paranormal) story. The book cover gives an idea of the lightness of this read, not my favorite cover. Because all the recent vampire stories I’ve read are dark, this one felt a little tame compared. But it was still a good story. As the story developed, the past experiences of the two main characters (Gabe and Charly) gave some insight into why they got to who they were with each other. I enjoyed their journey to their HEA. Some drama, suspense, light banter, and love. Generally, a good read. Why I gave it 3.5 instead of 4 stars was because of some of the vampire cliches like the one that says you must invite a vampire into your home for them to come in. I feel like I need new ideas in that respect, but that’s just me personally.
This was a good read but there were things I liked and disliked about this story. I liked Charly and Gabe characters, the flow of the story was good and there were parts of this story made me laugh. However, I wanted Charly to prove to both her brother and her father that she learned from her mistakes and honestly, I wanted her to prove her father wrong. However, her character let me down when it came to what her brother said, and I get that he hurt her feelings, but she ended back up in a situation that she ran from with her ex. I wish I could say that I ended up liking Gabe's brother Vincent, but I didn't. However, it was good having the characters I enjoyed a lot in the first book in this one and I'm definitely looking forward to reading Kai's story.
I recently read an arc of this book for an honest review. This book was not my kind of book I will say that, I found it hard at times to get into.
I however found that I did enjoy getting to no the characters and the plot kept me interested in the book. I loved the dual povs as in other books I have read I sometimes would love to know what the other character was thinking.
My biggest difficult in this book was the vegetarian vampires this was just not something I was able to get into I am unfortunately a dark and twisted blood drinking vampire kinda gal.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good paranormal romance it is an interesting read. I have given it 4 stars because I feel the character development and plot were engaging and interesting.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Vampire Boss by Emily Cane was a really interesting and fun book. It was a little different then some I have read in the past. I liked that there were different types of characters in the book such as Fae, shifters, demons, dragons, etc. Charly is trying her best to make everyone in her life happy and to turn her life around. Gabriel is not the typical vampire, as he has gone vegan. Then he meets Charly. He must fight the urge to prey on her. He is attracted to her but doesn't want to hurt her or go back to his old ways. Charly wants him and won't just let him ignore her. the things they go through and the plot twists are well worth the read. I enjoyed the book and would gladly recommend.
I received a copy of the book from the author for an honest opinion.
I loved this story about Gabriel and Charly! Both are lost souls in their own way trying to find their paths in life. A chance meeting turns into an interesting night for the two that sets the stage for awkwardness at Charly’s new job. I really liked uncovering the story of both characters in this book. They both definitely had their flaws but fit together beautifully. The story took a little darker turn than I expected but I don’t mind as it added some gritty depth to their story. The characters were all well developed and I liked the chemistry/heat between Charly and Gabe. Overall a great love story!
This is the second book in the paranormal series by Emily Cane. The first book was so interesting that I couldn’t wait for this one. And I wasn’t disappointed. Charly is trying to get her life back on track after a series of bad decisions. The last night before she committed to her full time job with her brother, Charly let her wild side show at the club. Gabriel has followed his vegan-like lifestyle for decades, until the night at the club when a beautiful woman fell on him. So much happening in this story I couldn’t put it down. Another great read.
I received this book free from the author for an honest review.
Thanks, Emily for giving me the chance to read and review the ARC Vampire Boss. In exchange of a honest review. Vampire Boss is the second book in Emily's paranormal series. You can read the book alone but for personally I would read the book one first since the. Character's overlap. Emily has taken the time to development her characters and storyline. If you enjoy fast pace storylines like I do you most likely will find Vampire Boss storyline slow and probably too long. Overall, I enjoyed finding Emily Cane as a new author and giving g me the chance to read a new genre Look forward to see what Emily can do with the series.
This is another very fun entry for this series. Gabe and Charly were easy to love, and I found them super cute and mega funny. I thought the world building was well done and I enjoyed the layers to the characters. The storyline held my interest and kept me highly entertained. I thought that this PNR had some genuine relatability to it and that helped it to connect fiercely with my heart. If you like a book that is humorous and upbeat but still has those feels, this book is a perfect choice. This is my candid, volitional review.
This world that Emily Cane created is so much fun. Gabriel and Charly are perfect for each other. My heart broke for Charly as she was trying so hard to make everyone else happy around her while she was miserable. Gabriel is a terrific character - all broody and serious and hot. Perfect for someone as fun and free as Charly. They bring out the best in each other. Plenty of heat and chemistry with these two. It starts a little slow but you have to let yourself get into it because once it picks up, the story just flies. Absolutely wonderful!
Vampire Boss by Emily Cane is the captivating story of Gabriel and Charly. He’s a vampire….but, not. She meets him and changes him…in a bad way!!! Then, she discovers he's her new boss!! Now, the attraction won't go away!!!
At first, I thought this story would be too ‘out there’ for me. Everything was uncharacteristically strange…but, I was so happily surprised1!! I REALLY enjoyed the story!! The characters were so steadfast in their beliefs and yet, had flaws as well!!!
I am volunteering to leave a review for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This story is number 2 in series. It is about Charly and Gabriel. Gabriel we meet in book 1, but can be read as a standalone. Gabriel is a Vampire but not your 'typical' vampire as he's vegan. As a many centuries old vampire, he has experienced love and death. He meets his friend's sister Charly, and both have an immediate connection driving them together. This book contains witches, shifters, Fae, and cunning Vampire family members. This has been my second paranormal story I've read, and recommend. HEA.
These characters were easy to love and had certain aspects that were easy to relate to. I found her pink hair in the office setting so quirky and I loved it! Being able to get the history of Charly slowly throughout the book with little slips of Gabes throughout and most of his at the end was really interesting. I love the twist at the end and loved the way she changes the whole vampire aspect to allow for vegan vampires. And not in the twilight way which made it so much better. Can’t wait for the next in the series!
Your main characters are Gabe the vampire and Charly the rebel human. They meet by Charly who was crowd surfing at a concert falling onto Gabe. Charly is unusual because she doesn’t know what she wants her life to be. Gabe is a vegan vampire who abstains from blood. Gabe does seems emotionally detached at times. It’s very humorous but steamy. There is paranormal drama going on and creatures from the other world causing havoc. Over all this is a very lighthearted story that makes you smile and has a HEA.
I read this ARC for an honest review. This is the 2nd book in the series, but could be a stand alone. I did read the first book in the series before reading this book. The conflict that Gabriel has throughout the book is felt and he tries hard to avoid he's feelings toward Charly. I felt Charly's character could have shown more of her growth and stood up to her father, but over all I liked her character. The relationship that Charly and Gabriel have is kismet. I love the hidden connections and twists that happen. Fun read overall.
