Hell Hath No Fury -
Immediately upon her marriage, Cecily realized that her new husband, Flavion, is “a narcissistic, good-for-nothing, parasitical b….” and wanted him gone from her life. Stephen, Flavion’s cousin, is the complete opposite of Flavian, including being in love with Cecily; however, he is consumed with guilt and makes some devastating choices. Flavion is a horrible character who has no concern for anyone except himself and you can not help but hope that fate steps in. Cecily is a strong character that the reader can’t help but cheer for and hope that she ultimately gets some happiness. There is humour, mystery, and many interesting moments in this story.
What the Duke Wants
The Duke of Stonebridge, Ambrose, happened across Grace after she fell in some mud and he decided to help her. He is completely smitten; although he is expected to announce his betrothal to her horrible cousin, Beatryce, at the house party. This story is along the lines of a Cinderella story with the horrible relations and a confused, sometimes idiot of a Duke instead of Prince Charming. Ambrose makes some rather difficult decisions and acts quite poorly throughout this story but Grace keeps forgiving him. This series starter is exciting, amusing and peeks my interest enough to make me want to read more in this series
A Study in Scandal -
Amelia is a lover of a good mystery and fancies herself an amateur sleuth. When a sculpture is stolen from her house, her father hires Colin, an inspector that intrigues Amelia. The two of them work together to solve the mystery of the stolen sculpture and Amelia falls in love with the detective who wants facts and evidence, not emotions.
Desires of Lady Elise
This is an enjoyable read centred around Elise and Thornton. It is a 2nd chance romance as the 2 main characters have had 10 years to mature into adults. Elise is angry with Thornton for disappearing for 10 years, but she hasn’t stopped loving him. Thornton hasn’t stopped loving Elise and when she gets into trouble, he is more than ready to prove that he is her knight in shining armour.
Never Have I Ever with a Duke
This story did not hold my attention. Graham is a surprise new Duke since his uncle, cousin and father all passed away. He is left with a couple of properties and a mountain of debt due to the previous duke’s poor choices. Arabella’s father made a poor decision to invest with the same swindler as the previous Duke and lost all of their money. Both Arabella and Graham decide that they should try to marry someone with money to solve their issues; however, neither of them are interested in marriage without love. They meet, are attracted to each other and when they learn of their similar backgrounds, they decide to work together.
One Kiss from Ruin
Emmeline and Daniel have loved each other for years but were torn apart by lies and poor decisions. I found this story dragged on with the back and forth between the main characters, the scheming, the wallowing in self-pity, the pompous prigs, an uncaring father, etc. etc.
The Reluctant Duke
A desperately broke Thomas Seabrook, the Duke of Wentworth, plays cards with Emma Hamilton’s father, the New Bedford Whaling Tycoon, and not only wins a lot of money, but also a lucrative business and a guardianship. Thomas is a bit of an idiot, jaded towards love due to an infatuation when he was only 17. Emma is definitely what is needed to shake things up and of course the road to happiness is not without a few bumps. This can be read as a standalone;however, it does involve multiple characters and the start of their storylines.
Engaging the Enemy
Leopold Randall returns to English soil to find his family after years in exile due to the machinations of the previous Dukes of Romsey. The current Duke, is the son of Mercy, who is too young to have any information regarding Leopold’s family. There is mystery and danger surrounding the new young Duke and Mercy does all she can to keep him protected by staying out in the country with her son, away from others. Her friend, Anna, and Anna’s lecherous brother, Shaw, visit Mercy to try and convince her to go to London away from her son and Shaw continues to make Mercy uncomfortable with his suggestive ways. Blythe, Mercy’s widowed sister also visits often as she loves to be around Mercy’s son after having lost both her husband and child to a fever. There are strange and disturbing happenings at Romsey Abbey and Mercy fears for her son’s wellbeing. There are many little twists and mysteries in this story to keep a reader interested.
Loving the Marquess
Nicholas, the Marquess of Overlea has been suffering debilitating headaches and fears that he will die from them like his father and brother. He does not want his useless cousin to inherit and devises a plan to wed Louisa and convince her to sleep with his friend, Lord Kerrick, in order to produce an heir. It is a foolish plan that neither Louisa nor Lord Kerrick are interested in; however, Nicholas is convinced that it is necessary in order to protect everyone and to ensure his “illness” does not pass on. There are any number of characters who could be guilty of Nicholas’s ailment, but chances are that the reader will guess wrong. This is a great story with a little mystery.
The Ice Duchess
This is a quick standalone romance about Georgie and Dex. They were childhood friends who lost touch with each other as Dex was involved with his geological adventures, Georgie’s brother died, and Georgie was married off to an old cruel man. When they meet up years later, Georgie is afraid of relationships and Dex finally figured out that he loved her and never should have left without her. This is all about the two of them moving forward and getting over the past.
Masked Intentions
This is Adrian and Vanessa's story. Adrian was badly burned in a fire that killed his father and turned his mother from him. When his mother remarried, the monsters that were her husband and stepson were extremely abusive to Adrian and his two brothers. As an adult, Adrian carried so much emotional baggage that Vanessa ended up blackmailing him into marrying her, even though she was very much in love with him. This is an interesting story, but not a completely happy one for all the characters and it definitely sets the scene for the rest of the series
Don’t Tell a Duke You Love Him
The Duke of Longley, Max, and his friends had reputations as some of the biggest rakes; whereas Lady Lily Ducat and her sisters’ reputations were almost pristine. Max and Lily are enamoured of each other upon first seeing one another at a shop. They are thrown together during a snow storm and find it hard to avoid one another. Lily’s mother is not looking out for Lily’s best interests so it is a good thing that Lily;s sisters are there. The cast of characters are enjoyable and this story definitely makes me interested to find out how the Ducat sisters’ stories turn out.
Stone Devil Duke
Lady Augustine Christopherson, Aggie, puts herself in the crosshairs of killers in an effort to protect her family. She accidentally involves Devin, the Duke of Dunway, and thus begins a very interesting adventure. I couldn’t put this story down; at times it broke my heart, made me uncomfortable and had me cheering for the main characters. This is a must read for those who want something a little different with a strong female lead who will do whatever she thinks is necessary; all be it without thought to her own safety.
