My rules as Mr. Fake Date? Weddings only. Kissing has a surcharge. And catching feelings is absolutely forbidden. What could go wrong?
As a professional wedding date, I have strict boundaries.
Feelings make things messy, and I need this side gig because my pay as an active-duty Marine isn’t nearly enough to cover my old man’s medical bills.
Then my pops shocks me with one of those gut-wrenching “Make me a promise, son” kinda talks, saying he wants me to give up this fake-dating business and find something real.
But then the bookish stunner I’ve been low-key crushing on for over a year suddenly needs my services.
And even though this gorgeous woman and her beautifully different brain could be the one to make me risk it all, I’ll be her perfect fake date … and then I’ll walk away.
Because despite the promise I made to my pops, I won’t fall in love with her only to lose her like I’ve lost everybody else.
I can’t.
The Fake Date is a clean, standalone romance told from both POVs in the first person. You'll find sizzling chemistry, swoony kisses, but no steam.

Confession. The fake dating trope is not one I usually read. But when a trusted author writes it, I read it.
I have been curious about Lyndi and Beau for a little while. There was something about them that intrigued me and had me wanting to know their stories and see what makes them tick. I was excited to dive into their book.
I have to admit that, while I enjoyed their story, I had a bit of a hard time getting behind their relationship for a good portion of the book. They each have their own reasons as to why nothing real could happen between them, and they were valid reasons... it just seemed to drag out a little too long for me.
But that didn't stop me from finishing the book. When they both finally allowed themselves to open up and see what kind of future they could have together, the story picked up and I couldn't read fast enough. Even though I struggled, I really enjoyed their journey. It was real. It was raw. It was beautiful. Lyndi and Beau are absolutely perfect for each other. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of them in the next book.
I'm loving the Brides of Beaufort series. I loved seeing old friends (even though I kinda wanted to knock Layla out at one point) and meeting new ones. I'm looking forward to getting to know Chase and Zoe more! I can't to see what Ms. Mastorakos has in store for them!
And of course I can't forget my casting. I think these two are pretty perfect. What do you think?
Is it unethical for me to just instantly mark any book by Jess Mastorakos as a five star read? Because I just know before I even start that it’s going to be a five star read. She has become an instant buy author for me. I already own two full series in paperback and I’m working on the other two. And I’m not one to spend money on just anything so that should say something. Let me just say, The Fake Date is no exception to the five star rule for these sweet Marine romances.
If you’ve been reading along with the Bride of Beaufort series, you’ve already met Lyndi, an introverted bookworm who is also a wedding photographer, and Beau, a hunky Marine who works as a date for hire for weddings. Since they both work the wedding scene, Lyndi and Beau frequently run into each other at the same weddings. And while they may each be crushing on the other, neither will admit it for their own personal reasons. When meddling matchmakers try to weasel their way into Lyndi’s love life, Beau steps in without thinking to say they are dating. Eventually, Lyndi goes along with it to keep the matchmakers at bay. But it will only ever be fake between them. Right?
I absolutely adored Lyndi as a character. She definitely had a lot of quirks and challenges that you see throughout the story that really resonated with me as someone with several anxiety disorders, including social anxiety. Though there is no mention of any kind of diagnosis, I’m sure many readers can find ways to connect with her just based on how well the author wrote her as a character. There are plenty of bookish references to make any bookworm laugh with joy. Then of course, Beau. I mean, come on. Jess Mastorakos knows how to write a good book boyfriend (which is super ironic considering how many times Lyndi references book boyfriends!). He just really seems to understand her and her needs. Oh, just melt my heart already won’t ya. Also, fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, so this checked so many boxes for me.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am leaving an honest and voluntary review.
Loved this one! Every lover of books especially romance will have lots of giggles while reading this one. I appreciate how after reading so many books by this author I still found this one to be unique and fresh. All the characters and their distinct personalities shine through. This love story has the slow burn but the pacing is great and I couldn’t read it fast enough. I had put off reading this series a few months because I’m not a huge fan of plots about brides/weddings even though I love romance but once I stared it I loved it. This series is great. I can’t recommend it enough!
Beau, the Marine with a side hustle as a professional plus one, and Lyndi, the wedding photographer, two complicated people I have waited to meet. I was looking forward to this book, as Beau has been the plus one to several weddings in this series. However, I was not disappointed, and this book is my favorite in the series to date!
Another winner for Ms. Mastorakos, her stories are always clean and sweet. Well-written, quick, and easy reads.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Lyndi and Beau had some chemistry that everyone else seemed to recognize but they kept things tight to the vest so they wouldn't get hurt.
Lyndi loved to read romance novels so her perfect guy was found in the pages of her books and was the perfect book boyfriend. That way she never had to worry about getting hurt. But she had secretly been crushing on Beau Devereux for a year.
Beau was a Marine who had some baggage that made him want to steer clear of love. He didn't want to ever open himself up to the terrible pain and heartache that loss would inevitably bring. He had a side business where he was hired to be a "Fake Date" usually for weddings. There was a contract and kissing costs more. He was a master at faking his emotions and that kept him safe but he had a hard time being fake around Lyndi. She seemed to burrow under his shell without him even being aware she was doing it.
I won't give away the story but there is a happy ending that I absolutely love. The story is clean and wholesome and appropriate for anyone who enjoys a good love story with a happy ending.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I related so much to both Lyndi and Beau on different levels. Enjoyed this one a ton. Loved the dynamic and second guessing, and the blunt honesty between them when it came down to it.
Also loved all the friends’ support they all had. And it was fun to see the cross over of Grant from the San Diego series. Really well done.
Ok, so I’m writing this review mere minutes after finishing the book and oh my goodness I am still in a haze of loving this book. I absolutely loved this book. Definitely my favourite book of the month and very likely to be high up on my favourite book of the year. This is Jess Mastorakos’ best book.
It is crazy how much I related to Lyndi. She is so much like me. I loved her. The book love and introvertedness was so relatable. And of course, because I felt like Lyndi I fell in love with Beau too. I was so invested in their stories. I was emotionally invested right from the beginning (I cried in chapter 2).
There were just so many fun parts of this book, but my favourite part was probably all the trope talk. I love talking about tropes and it was fun seeing Lyndi explain and talk about tropes in her real life. It was fun, because it had a feeling of breaking the fourth wall, which isn’t something I seen in a book.
Since I mentioned tropes, this book includes one of my all time favourite tropes, fake dating. Jess did an amazing job with this trope; keeping it fresh and interesting whilst still being the trope we love.
You already know I love this book, so of course you should read it. But you should also read the rest of the series, and every other book Jess Mastorakos has written because they are all amazing.
I always love love love Jess Mastorakos books and this was just another amazing book! The Fake Date is about Lyndi and it is the fourth book in Jess Mastorakos’ Brides of Beaufort series. I loved learning more about Lyndi. She had been in previous books but you did not know that much about her. I loved Lyndi’s little quirks and the things that made her different. She was introverted, a bookworm, and overthink everything. She was just such a relatable character. It was fun to read about Lyndi as she figured out how to be herself and how to let others in. She was a wonderful character. Lyndi would have to figure out if Beau was worth the uncertainty of life, he was a Marine and there was no guarantee of where he would end up. Beau was also a sweetheart. I was so excited to see that he was going to end up with Lyndi. Beau was a fake date for hire but he was also kind. He did enjoy his side job but he never let anyone in. He had lost people at a young age and he was guarded. However when he agrees to fake date Lyndi, he finds himself opening up. She had a way of breaking down his walls. Beau will have to decide if Lyndi is worth it and if he is willing to risk love. Beau and Lyndi were a sweet couple. I really liked how they were able to connect with each other and how they truly saw the other person. Beau and Lyndi were both people who put up walls but around each other they could be themselves. The romance was so sweet and cute. They did have some bumps to go over especially since they were fake dating. However I never felt like the book was awkward or moving too fast or slow. The side characters were fun and I love seeing cameos. Mastorakos does cameos so well! The relationship between the main group of friends is always a lot of fun because they get each other. I am super excited for the next book! Chase has been a side character in so many books and it is cool that he finally gets his own book! The Fake Date was amazing as Mastorakos’ books always are! I would definitely recommend this book! I am also counting down the days until the next book, The Contract. The Fake Date is a clean contemporary Marine romance.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
The Fake Date is the fourth book in the Brides of Beaufort by Jess Mastorakos. Beau Devereux is a Marine with a side hustle. Mr Fake Date, a business in which women can hire him to be a date for weddings. He has strict rules. No feelings. Kissing is extra. Everything was going great until his father forced him to make a promise to find something real. Lyndi Robinson is the beautiful yet bookish woman who caught his eye a year ago. When she needs a fake date for an upcoming family wedding, he offers his services. They can pretend to be dating to satisfy his father’s promise and keep her family’s matchmakers away. As they begin their charade, Beau realizes she could be the one. But he is determined to be her fake date and walk away. He has to. He doesn’t want to fall in love and lose her like he lost everyone else. To say I am loving this series would be an understatement. And Jess Mastorakos is quickly becoming a must-read author for me. Great characters with flaws, of course, handsome military men are always a plus. The Fake Date dives deeper into the fear of loss, social anxiety and escaping reality. I loved that the mutual attraction between Beau and Lyndi was shown in the first book and carried on through the second and third book even though neither Beau and Lyndi were willing to act on their feelings. The growth of Beau and Lyndi in this story was great. I loved Beau who was closed off for a purpose, although he really didn’t want to be but felt he had to to protect his heart. I loved the bookish Lyndi, but there were times I wanted to shake some sense into her. Overall, I loved this story. I’m ready to jump right into book five. I highly, highly recommend The Fake Date.
The Fake Date by Jess Mastorakos is the 4th book in The Brides of Beaufort series, and I have to say it’s my favorite of the series so far. And it’s in my top 3 of her books. Lyndi Robinson is my favorite heroine because I have to say it’s nice to see a nerdy bookworm. She reminded me quite a bit of me.
Beau Devereux however is indeed my favorite hero. What’s not to love about a Marine hero from Louisiana. I mean what’s not to love about a guy who has the kindle app on his phone. Which to me makes him Jess’s swooniest hero.
I also loved Beau’s dad as a character because he reminded me so much of my own dad. Especially his relationship with Beau’s mom.
This one leans more to the rom com genre than previous books in the series. But for this one it works as the heroines a bookworm who loves her book tropes. And even though I’ve never seen Top Gun I did get the references to the movie in the book and thinks it adds to the story. Can’t Wait for the next book in the series.

I received a copy of this book from the author I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
Lyndi is a lover of all things books. She's constantly got her nose buried in a book or her kindle. She prefers the company of her many book boyfriends over large gatherings and the chaos of crowds (my kind of gal!).
She's never had luck with past relationships as the guys have always backed out due to her quirks and shyness.
Beau Devereaux is a swoony marine who has a side gig as Mr. Fake Date. He is for hire as a date for weddings and is known for keeping things to a T by the contract and not catch feelings. He's being stationed elsewhere soon and the one girl he's been noticing more and more over the last year has made it known she does not wish to leave her hometown. He also has his own reasons for not wanting to get close to someone or have a relationship.
When these two decide to come together to Fake Date to get their families and friends off their backs can they continue to keep their ever growing feelings for one another at bay? And what about the no kissing clause?
Read The Fake Date to find out! Available now on Kindle Unlimited.
I loved Lyndi and Beau's story and enjoyed seeing more of the other characters from the first three books. I love their tight knit community and friendships. And of course Ms. Hattie and her constant matchmaking!
Woot! Another fabbo book from the Military (Romance) Master.
I've been looking forward to Beau's story for what seems like forever (😂), and I'm so very VERY happy I had the opportunity to read this!
Don't ask me why I've been kinda obsessed with Beau (I'm thinking it was the mystery of the unknown), but I couldn't have guessed his background if I'd tried. Tragic. 😥 I'd enjoyed his interactions with Lyndi in the earlier stories (especially her sister's) but liked how deep they were able to get inside the guise of fake dating.
Lyndi was sweet and unsure of herself, yet confident in what she liked/disliked... once she gave herself the chance to think about herself. I loved how she saw and experienced things. She might be "classed" neurodivergent, but most people have several "quirks" just like Lyndi... 🤷🏼♀️ We're all unique.
Enjoyed all the ups and downs, the unexpected backstory, and the difficulties to overcome. A well-rounded, worthwhile read.
The Fake Date is the fourth book in the Brides of Beaufort Series set in South Carolina. This story features swoony Marine Beau and bookworm and photographer Lyndi. I love all of Jess’ Marine series but this book is absolutely one of my favorites. Beau has a weekend gig to earn extra money as Mr. Fake Date. He escorts women to weddings as a paid date, but don’t worry, in all his contracts he has a no kissing clause. Lyndi has secretly liked Beau since she met him a year ago, as she is usually the photographer at the weddings he attends. In this story, we discover Beau secretly likes Lyndi. He has huge attachment issues and Lyndi is far to shy to talk to him when their group of friends is together, she would rather hide in her books. Lyndi compares all men to the romances she reads and real men don’t compare. What happens when Beau needs a fake girlfriend to visit his father and Lyndi needs a date to her cousins wedding? You will not be able to put the book down to find out how they have there happily ever after.
Lyndi and Beau finally get their story and it’s a good one! Lyndi is a wedding photographer who has had a crush on Beau a Marine who works on the side as a Fake Date for women needing that plus one. The two have been avoiding their feelings for each other for almost a year! They both have major commitment issues but each are seeing their friends pair up ad know that they are missing something. Lyndi has an issue with reading too many romance books which makes her think life is like her books. Beau has her pegged and has figured that she forgets that real relationships do not work like her books. Beau has seen a lot of sadness in his life. He is afraid that if he gets too close he will lose someone else. They have a lot of baggage that they need to work through. Wait until you see what happens when a fake date might become real. Maybe the two of them work through their issues together and make it together!
This series just keeps getting better and better with every book!
I have never related to a main character so much! Lyndi with her love of fiction and how she thinks in book scenarios was so relatable! I also love how Beau makes it his number one priority to make it know that Lyndi is perfect, just the way she is, quirks, book loving, messy thoughts and all. That hit me in the feels soooooo hard.
Both of them have had hard times in their lives, Beau especially. I loved that the two of them understood each other so well and that their relationship grew from that understanding, despite their effort not to fall in love with each other. Take all of that and add in the fake relationship trope...heart eyes all around!
Hands down, the best part of this series is that all of the main characters are friends with each other. I love getting to see the past couples of this series live out their happily ever afters. It makes my heart sooo happy! I cannot wait for book five!
Ahh, Lyndi and Beau, there are so sweet! She is truly my book twin! I know exactly how she feels! She is an observer and shy one in her group. Beau is also an observer and sees her for the sweet woman she is. She doesn’t trust easily and Beau is not wanting to put his heart out there, he has some tragedy in his past. I loved how straight forward they were about what they wanted in a partner, Lyndi for her “perfectly imperfect man” to resemble her book boyfriends and Beau just isn’t willing to open his heart. It was fun watching them realize that their fake feelings and what they expected each other to do or say was not always how it played out. This was a great story for Lyndi and Beau and I loved catching up with the other couples in the series. If you enjoy a sweet, heartfelt, emotional story with a HEA, check this book and series out!
I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved this book. I don't often say this about books, but this one was perfect. I loved the characters and the easy way their story flowed. It felt like I knew them from the very beginning of the book, like I was getting together with old friends. The story grabbed me and didn't let me go. I found myself thinking about the book whenever I wasn't able to read it. I probably would have read it in one sitting if I had been able to.
I truly don't know what to say about the book other than I adored it. I think this might be my favorite book I have read this year. It was amazing. I wish it had been longer because I honestly could have read about these characters for a couple of books, focused on them the whole time. I'm glad that I should be able to see them again in the next books, but I will miss them and the comfortable feeling I had while reading their story.
I read an ARC of this book for free, and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Loved this book! Didn’t want to put it down! I was a volunteer ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review. Loved the characters in the book and the slow burn that leads to them getting together. Beau and Lyndy have known each other for over a year since she is a wedding photographer and he is Mr. Fake Date. Lyndi has had a crush on Beau but he doesn’t know it at the time. They have the same group of friends and Beau begins to realize that he is thinking of Lyndi more and understands her introvert ways. Beau recognizes when Lyndi is uncomfortable in situations and steers her towards solitude. Family and Ms. Hattie, the local florist and matchmaker, are trying to match Lyndi and Beau with other people. Lyndi and Beau decide to have a fake relationship to stop the matchmaking so they can both be left alone. I love that this book was written about an introvert who prefers books over people as there are many of us like that.
I loved this latest addition of the Brides of Beaufort as Beau and Lyndi finally get their story. Each of these books are a stand alone, but I think they are so much more enjoyable knowing the backgrounds of all the supporting characters. Beau is such a perfect book boyfriend, handsome, hunky, considerate, always knowing how to act in every circumstance. That being the role he played, as a date for hire on weekends , in addition to being a Marine for his day job. Lyndi was a wedding photographer, knowing Beau for a year and harboring a secret crush. She was quite a quirky character, extremely shy, hiding in her books, fearful to step out of her comfort zone. He had his own baggage of guilt and walls up. It was looking like they’d never get beyond their fears to pursue a “real” relationship with one another.
OMG what another fantastic read in this excellent series. Jess Mastorakos has away of making the latest book in the series my favorite and this one is no exception. Lyndi and Beau have danced around each other for quite a while now. It's an entertaining read as you see these two try to figure each other out. The characters in this series are so well written and the way they continue to support each other in each book, makes this series a favorite of mine. If you haven't read the other books you can start with this one and not feel like your missing anything. But if you have been reading the whole series the way these characters interact will keep you coming back for more. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
"The Fake Date" was an enjoyable read. Its entertaining plot was focused on Lyndi and Beau and their fake relationship. She was an introverted romance reader enthusiast and a wedding photographer who had OCD, and he was a marine who had a side hustle of being a fake date at weddings so he could help his ailing father with his medical bills. I loved the vivid descriptions the author used. They helped to create a lively tone. Moreover, it was clever that the author mentioned in the plot her own series of books about marines stationed in Hawaii. Finally, every woman should have a Beau in her life. I enjoyed reading the narrative. I received an advanced copy for free. I am voluntarily giving my honest review.
We finally learn a bit more about Beau who is a marine with a side business of being a fake date for ladies. He has known Lyndi for a while now seeing her at all the weddings. He is attracted to Lyndi and knows she does not date plus there is a major reason why he is other ladies fake date for money. Lyndi is a photographer and usually you will find her at the wedding for that week in town. She stays to herself and loves to read romance books. She doesn't date much. Yet people are always trying to set her up. She is attracted to Beau but does not act on it due to the fact he will be leaving the area when his time is up. Such a great fun read. Watching them become friends and more and realizing it was awesome.
This is a wonderful story of Lyndi and Beau. Lyndi has had a crush on Beau since the first time she met him at the wedding of a friend. She was a wedding photographer and he was not only in the Marines but also a fake date for weddings. He even had an app for his side business. Beau had also been crushing on Lyndi since they first met. They both were a part of the same friend group. When Lyndi starts getting pressured by her grandmother about dating, she seriously considered asking for Beau’s help. Beau’s dad, who has cancer, has started putting the pressure on him to quit the fake dating and find the right girl. Together, Lyndi and Beau they decide to help each other. What happens when the crush and fake dating turns into something more for both of them?
I love Lyndi. I just got her. I totally understood what she meant when she breaks down tropes and plots and all the things, because I do the same! I really liked getting to see inside her head. Although, that did come with a few rough spots for me. She drove me a little crazy with the constant comparison to "book boyfriends". (I hate that term, btw.)
Beau was fun to get to know too. He's way more closed off than one might think, considering he appears very social. And he has his reasons for being that way. Fortunately though he works his way out of it with a nudge from his dad.
This book was sweet, and charming, and ridiculously funny-in the best way. Definitely worth the read.
Lyndi is a wedding photographer and sees Beau at most events. When she first laid eyes on him she had no idea he was a fake date to rent so the woman didn’t have to go unescorted. She has many quirks that don’t mesh well with the usual dating pool and usually goes off by herself to read. They are nudged together by the town florist, Miss Hattie. As they spend more time together, he gets her. After a trip to his hometown of New Orleans to meet his dad, she gains a lot of insight into what makes him tick. She doesn’t want to leave Bluffton when he gets stationed in Hawaii. Where is the happy medium and when does the arrangement stop being fake? I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
What a good story! Lyndi would rather be behind the camera or reading a book than to be out in front of people. She prefers not to be in crowds or where there is a lot of commotion. Beau has made himself to be whatever he needs to be for his side job, so he is fake quite a bit of the time rather than allowing himself to get close to people and letting them see who he is. This book is the journey of Beau and Lyndi as they learn to really see each other and to let other people in rather than holding everything close and pretending to be fine. The “fake” dating is a lot of fun, and the author handles all of the nuances of this couple very well.
It’s always refereshing to me when the heroine goes against the norm and is not an extremely outgoing, life-of-the-party woman. I loved how Jes Mastorakos didn’t make Lynda seem strange or odd for being introverted and how it wasn’t something she needed to overcome on her journey in the book. Lyndi is strong, smart, sweet, and has a little sass all wrapped up in a more quiet personality. She and Beau are perfect for each other. I love how they just love to be with each other, even doing simple things like reading together. I was very happy to finally see Beau get his HEA and I can’t wait for the next book!
Another great and easy read by Jess! I was super excited to read Beau’s story because he has been a part of the other stories, so it was time. The part I enjoyed the most was that while he has his job as The Fake Date and plays an extrovert charming other people all the time, he and Lyndi definitely shared some introvert traits and quirks too. Beau and Lyndi compliment each other well and I love that he just went for it when the time came about, although it took over a year of them knowing her from her being a wedding photographer and him being a date at many weddings as his side job along with having friends in common.
