This is a beautiful story, one that I zoomed through with a smile, can pediatric ER doctor Chad McCain put his past pain behind him and find love and happiness again for him and his young son Henry? Pediatric nurse Izzy Lane has moved to Atlanta to start fresh after being hurt by her ex, she has been let down badly but wants to find happiness in her future, will she now?

A chance meeting in a grocery store starts a new journey for Chad and Izzy, Chad is determined to put all of his love into his son and stay single after losing his wife in a car accident but when he meets his new nurse, the woman who helped him in the grocery store and they work so well together, he is wondering whether or not there may be a future for them.

Izzy is new to town and looking for a place to stay and when Chad offers her is backyard apartment she takes it and soon they are becoming fast friends and Izzy is thinking that her life should involve a husband and family but Chad has other ideas but when one night of sensual pleasure leads to a fling her heart is beating faster but can she break down the wall Chad has built around his heart?

I loved this story so much filled with emotion, Izzy is the most caring and beautiful heroine inside and outside she is there for everyone and Chad what a hero so caring with his young patients but he was hurt so badly he is not sure that he can be good husband material but Izzy pulls at his heart so much. This story is sensual and moving and one that I highly recommend, you will not be disappointed.

My thanks to the author for my copy to read and review.

If I am reading a medical story written by Susan Carlisle, then I know the scenes will be coming across as totally believable, whether they are associated to some type of emergency in the hospital or the budding romance that the main couple are experiencing. In the first book in the Atlanta Children's Hospital series from this author, there are plenty of heartfelt situations which depict exactly what each character is feeling at that precise moment, and this insight let me come to be more connected to those who are featured throughout the story and relate to what was occurring in their lives.

When Elizabeth Lane moved to Georgia and started a new career at Atlanta Children’s Hospital, she wanted to forget about her failed relationship and what it meant for her immediate future. A chance encounter with a man and his son leads to a big shock when the older male turns out to be Dr. Chad McCain, who is employed in the emergency room where she now works. This means the couple often have to interact with each other, and though neither are at all interested in being involved with someone at this time, each can feel the attraction whenever they are near one another. But Chad has suffered a tragic incident that altered his life and way of thinking, while Izzy also is fearful of being with anyone at this time. Yet his devotion to his young son and patients has the nurse repeatedly seeing the single dad in a positive light, and leaves her wondering about what she should do about these unexpected feelings.

With a dedicated doctor and nurse as the lead characters in this story, I came to really admire them on a professional level. Chad and Izzy certainly care about those who come in for treatment, and I always felt as though I was right by their side during these rather scary events. When it comes to what was happening to them personally, the author did not make it easy for them to be in a relationship, as doubts frequently enter into the equation and then leave these two confused. The inclusion of there being a small child in the picture often made any choices more difficult, as Izzy and Chad also had to take his needs into account. Once again, I was treated to a conceivable and very emotional story imaginatively created by Susan Carlisle.

Mending the ER Doc's Heart by Susan Carlisle, book one in her Atlanta Children’s Hospital series, is a wonderful, sweet, and enjoyable tale of a doctor and nurse, working together in the ER of a children’s hospital and socializing outside of work. A chance meeting in a grocery store starts a new journey for Chad and Izzy. Pediatric ER doctor Chad McCain is determined to put all of his love into his son and stay single after losing his wife in a car accident but when he meets his new nurse, the woman who helped him in the grocery store and they work so well together, he is wondering whether or not there may be a future for them. Pediatric nurse Izzy Lane has moved to Atlanta for a fresh start after being badly hurt and let down badly by her ex, hopes to find happiness in her future. Izzy is looking for a place to stay when Chad offers her his backyard apartment. She takes it and soon they are becoming fast friends. Izzy wants her life to involve a husband and family but Chad has other ideas. When one night of sensual pleasure leads to a fling her heart is beating faster and hopeful, but it’s going to take losing Izzy to break down the walls Chad has built around his heart. Izzy and Chad are offered a second chance at love but will need to take risks of opening their hurt and damaged hearts before reaching a happy ending together. Chad’s cute, adorable, curly head son steals the show and adds another layer to this story and their feelings.

Ms. Carlisle wrote a wonderful, flirty, heartwarming, and enjoyable romance that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, magnetic attraction, chemistry, empathy, and endearing characters, giving Izzy and Chad a chance for a loving future together. I highly recommend Mending the ER Doc's Heart to other readers.

This is the first book in the Atlanta Children’s Hospital series. Since I recently read a book by Susan May (aka Susan Carlisle) about her son’s heart transplant; Nick’s New Heart 30 Years and Counting, which I highly recommend, I was excited to read this book about the ER in a children’s hospital.

Ms. Carlisle definitely knows her way around hospitals and that showed very clearly in the story. It was nice to read about a doctor and nurse’s lives within their jobs and also their personal life. This was a second chance at love story, where neither Izzy or Chad were open to love again. My favorite storyline is friends to romantic partners, which definitely describes this story. Add in an adorable curly head child and my heart just melts.

This is a wonderful escape from real life, which I enjoyed so much. I love to read romances since I know they will end in a happily ever after.

Second chance at lasting love for a dedicated doctor and nurse

I really enjoyed this book about a dedicated ER physician and the new nurse at the Atlanta Children's Hospital. Izzy was really used and screwed over by her ex and made the move from Nashville to Atlanta to escape reminders of his financial abuse and infidelity. Chad was left a widower with a toddler when his wife ran her car off the road and was killed.

The process of finding love -- in spite of either of their plans -- was a very natural progression of tiny incremental steps that made this story heartbreakingly sweet.

I received an ARC copy of this story directly from the author and voluntarily chose to share my review.

I only read this book because it came as a 2-in-1 with Amy Andrews' Nurse's Outback Temptation. Unfortunately, in Australia all M&B medical romances are now published as 2-in-1s, which means I get stuck with a lot of books I wouldn't otherwise buy. When I say that I read it, that's not quite correct. I started to, but it was so bad that I skimmed most of the book, donated it to charity & bought the Amy Andrews from the UK as a single title. My bookshelves are so crowded that I have no room for books that I'll never read again.

What was wrong with it? Predictable, cliched, not particularly well-written. The author says she writes 'hot medical romances' but the sex scenes are brief, poorly written and use old-fashioned language.

4 1/2 STARS!

Heartfelt and emotional! A second chance at love story always appeals to me as there are battle scars to overcome from that past love, but also hopefulness to finding lasting love again. With this story, there is the added adorableness of a kiddo who needs the connection of the woman who is so appealing to his father too, so it adds another dimension to the story. I felt like Izzy's character could have used a little more development, but overall this story was very fulfilling and enjoyable.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a fast paced storyline with emotional growth and endearing love at the center of it all.

This is a really good story. Pediatric ER doctor Chad McCain has a past filled with pain, and the only thing he was living for was his young son Henry. Pediatric nurse Izzy Lane moved to Atlanta to start fresh after a disastrous relationship. These two started as colleagues, became friends, and then it became more.

Mending the ER Doc's Heart will make you believe that good things come to those who wait and that second chances are possible. The main characters in this book, Izzy Lane and Chad McCain, have been unsuccessful in love. Now they find themselves both working at Atlanta Children's Hospital. They are caring people who are good at their jobs, but they'd like to find happiness in their personal lives. Izzy ends up renting an apartment behind his garage. They are cautious of the consequences of a relationship and decide not to get serious. But... I enjoyed this story, the characters, and the hospital setting. I was rooting for them to get their HEA.
