'He grasped the indescribable experience of finding God on the other side of the darkness and realized that He had been there the whole time, carrying him through.'

I'd never read a book by this author before and I'm very glad I did, because one of the themes here ministered to a situation I'd been having in my own walk with the Lord. It was very well written and very God-honoring. The plot was a good one and the author knows how to flesh out a character well.

Lessons can be learned here, too. Sometimes things happen to us in life, hurtful, even devasting things. We can trust God through these things, or we can be bitter at Him for not rescuing us. But we need to remember this one thing: God can redeem ALL our hurts and sorrows and redirect our paths. This one is for the keeper shelf.

My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. The opinion in this review is entirely my own.

A sweet, Christian Love Inspired read by Donna Gartshore called Finding Her Voice. This book follows the love story between Bridget Connelly and Sawyer Blume.

Bridget Connelly, who works at a veterinary clinic, wants to buy it and get her own business, but is not happy when she hears that there is another buyer for it. And when it is Sawyer Blume, the father of Delilah, the girl who has the same mutual love for dogs, she is a little bit shocked. Even though Sawyer has the funds to buy the clinic, his little family has fallen apart after the death of his wife. Can they overcome their struggles and help each other?

This book was the first I read from the author but it didn’t disappoint me. The characters were well written and Delilah is definitely a good addition to the story. I will definitely read more of this author.

If you love Love Inspired books or Christian reads with an HEA, then this is definitely worth a read.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy from the author through JustRead Tours and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are My own.

“Finding Her Voice” is a warm. easy read that will have you forgetting the troubles of the world. It’s a story set on the Canadian prairies with characters that you immediately want to root for as broken lives are brought together in a tail of romantic love, familial love, and faith.

“Finding her Voice” opens with Bridget Connolly’s dream to purchase the veterinary business where she works. But the arrival of the auditor, Sawyer Blume and his daughter, changes everything.

Bridget immediately bonds with Sawyer’s young daughter over a mutual love of dogs. But it’s soon more than his daughter that Bridget is falling for. As their relationship grows, she struggles to come up with the funds to purchase the veterinary clinic. Then, she learns that Sawyer might be purchasing the business and literally pulling her dream out from under her. What she doesn’t know is that while Sawyer might have the finances, he’s struggling with the emotional impact his wife’s death has had on his young daughter. He’s barely holding his small family together.

Finding her Voice is full of love and inspiration as the hero and heroine prove that not only is their love strong enough to face their differences, but it will carry them and their small family into the future and beyond.

One of my favorite things about being a reader is discovering new-to-me authors, and even though Donna Gartshore has written a few books, Finding Her Voice was the first book of hers I read. And I am so glad I did.

This character-driven story is about three people (and a canine companion) who have experienced heartbreaking trauma in their lives and each of them has lost something. Bridget has become timid about grabbing hold of her dreams, Sawyer isn’t sure what is best for his and his daughter’s future, and little Delilah has lost her voice (and so much more, but you’ll have to grab a copy of the book to discover it all).

I enjoyed this small-town and the citizens who know and love Bridget, yet welcome Sawyer into their midst, and the way the romance build between Sawyer and Bridget. This may have been my first time reading Gartshore’s books, but it won’t be my last.

Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. All opinions are my own.

I received a complimentary copy from Just Read Tours and all opinions expressed are entirely my own. The book follows three people in need of healing - a little girl who finds herself and her joy by bonding with a dog and her dad's bond with the dog's owner. An uplifting story about how healing can find you when you do not expect it.

What a sweet, uplifting story! I’ve not yet read a book by Donna Gartshore, but I’ve always been a fan of Love Inspired so I thought I’d give it a try. I’m so glad I did! Gartshore took two broken people, situations really, and brought them together in the most unexpected, yet brilliant way. All throughout she dropped faith themes that readers can really connect with.

To be honest, I think what blew me away was Sawyer’s daughter. She reminded me of my favorite Hallmark movie – Christmas with Holly. I cannot imagine the weight that little girl was carrying after her mother’s death, and while Gartshore doesn’t give us her POV directly, you can kind of see how her character goes through her own growth throughout the story. It really touched my heart.

Gartshore shows readers that grief comes in so many different ways, as does being affected by something traumatizing such as abuse (if that is a trigger for you, take a peek at other reviews and perspectives about this book). And the way individuals can grow and recover (as much as one can) happens in different ways as well. For some, it’s with a K9 companion. For others, drawing closer to the Lord. The list goes on and on. I enjoyed seeing how Sawyer, his daughter, and Bridget all had their recovery separately, as well as together.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the first book I’ve read by Donna Gartshore and I enjoyed it. I will admit that it took me a couple of chapters to get into it but I’m glad I hung on. It has depth, even though it’s a quick read. For me a bit more humor would have been nice; it was pretty intense and could have used a few lighter moments but it really was a good read. (Please be aware that it talks about domestic abuse and other traumas, in case this would be a trigger for you.)

Both main characters are on their own journey to healing, as is Sawyer’s adorable daughter. They are all well written and true to life. They learn that God can redeem the past and bring about complete healing, leading to a healthy life. And I loved the secondary characters as well.

I enjoyed reading about the community of Green Valley, and the care they have for each other. Maybe I should go visit, and eat at Seth’s. Sounds fun!

If you enjoy contemporary Christian fiction with a sweet romance then I recommend Finding Her Voice.

Finding Her Voice by Donna Gartshore is a Love Inspired sweet romance.

This is a precious story about an abuse survivor with her rescue dog and a widowed father with his little girl. While the topics of grief, trauma, and abuse are heavy and may not be for everyone, they are handled in such a real way that endears this story and the characters to readers. I loved how all four help one another through challenges they face – it completely melted my heart. Truly, I was rooting for these characters the whole way!

A fun aspect about this book is that it takes place in Saskatchewan. I always enjoy reading books set in places I don’t often read about. Add to it that I love K-9 stories and this was a heart-touching story.

If you enjoy sweet romance with emotional depth, then give Finding Her Voice a read!

If I could sum up Finding Her Voice in one word it would be healing.  When I first started to read this novel I felt depressed by some of the subject matter that is touched on in the first few chapters.  There are some hard backstories that had me questioning if this was going to be a heavy read or not, but once I got more into the story it was hard not to be intrigued.

Bridget is a very driven woman who is focused on not letting the darkness of her past define her future, and I am here for that!  I liked how she focused on her own self care and didn’t jump into another relationship without first dealing with the issues from her past.

Some of my favorite parts of the book were seeing the bond between sweet little Sophie and Delilah, the distressed dog, develop.  It shows how important animals can be in therapy, something I believe many of us already know, and shows how one bond can help heal more than one wound.  I have dealt with a lot of illness and issues in my own life, and I cannot imagine what I would’ve done without my Yorkie by my side.  There truly is something so wonderful about animal companions that makes the hard stuff more bearable.

There are a lot of truly heartbreaking things that each character is facing, so it’s no surprise that faith is being tested, and witnessing these doubts and fears really helps the characters be more fleshed out, as well as helped me feel that personal bond between myself and these flawed characters.

Though the subject matter can be daunting, it is all handled with realism and the utmost respect, and seeing the bonds that were created amid the ashes were truly endearing.  I would have liked a little more lightheartedness to break up the heaviness of the subject matter, but overall it was still a great read.

Warmth exudes from these bonds, and this community as a whole, and you know I am a sucker for a small town romance.  I enjoyed this quick read that has such wonderful heart and emotional depth.

I truly enjoy books under the LOVE Inspired brand as they are easy to read and usually a quick read. Finding Her Voice by Donna Gartshore is the latest book in the LOVE Inspired brand that I have read. Donna Gartshore is a new-to-me author and I also really enjoy new-to-me authors.

Bridget Connelly has a life goal to own the Veterinary Clinic where she currently works. She is a little dishearted to learn that Sawyer Blume, who is an auditor, also wants to buy the same Veterinary Clinic. Bridget has trust issues with men, but Sawyer's daughter and Bridget's little pup bond easily, allowing her to not be so guarded with Sawyer. Sawyer and his 7yr old daughter, Delilah, have recently lost their wife and mother. Delilah has been going through a lot since her mother died, but the little pup brings her out of her shell. Sawyer and Bridget discover that another person is also vying to buy the Veterinary Clinic. Bridget is lacking the funds to make the purchase happen and Sawyer is emotionally broken right now. Will Sawyer and Bridget come up with a plan that allows them to become partners in buying the Clinic? Will there be a Romance between Sawyer and Bridget?

WOW, just WOW!! I LOVE the theme behind this book. The author addresses some sensitive topics, including Abusive Relationships, but does so with grace. Bridget is a woman with dreams and goals. I LOVE that she has such a passion for animals and is very caring to them. Sawyer isn't expecting to find love so soon after his wife's tragic death. His focus is on his daughter, Delilah, and helping her through the loss of her mom. I LOVE how Bridget and Sawyer come together to not only achieve life goals but care for each other and Delilah. Their faith is tested in many ways throughout the book, but Bridget and Sawyer come out stronger through all this. The author does a great job at showing how faith in God will help those struggling get through circumstances. A WONDERFUL Faith-Based Christian Romance and I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Finding Her Voice was wonderful!! I have read many Love Inspired books, and this is one of the best. I even got emotional reading the Dear Reader letter at the end. The characters are well developed, and the details made it easy to get lost in the world of Green Valley. I found myself rereading sentences because they were so fresh and beautiful. If you are looking for a sweet romance to root for, this is it.

I found this a sweet story, and an easy read. Bridget had a lot of trauma to work through from an abusive relationship, and Sawyer and his daughter had a lot to work through, as well, from a different cause. How could Bridget learn to trust God, as well as men, again? The setting of a vet clinic, and the way a dog is integral to the story, adds a lot of interest. Anyone who loves dogs and enjoys romance will love this book. It is also a delightful peek into the way small towns operate, with everyone knowing everyone else’s business!

I liked this book. I liked that the characters were believable and that their actions were consistent with people trying to overcome abuse and a traumatic event. I liked seeing how the little girl and dog helped each other to heal. I also liked seeing Bridget and Sawyer open up to each other and how that brought healing to the both of them. I liked how they had a strong support system from the community and I liked that their relationship with God improved as they were willing to open up and share about their past. I thought this was a good book.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

FINDING HER VOICE by Donna Gartshore is the story of Bridget Connelly and Sawyer Blume as they seem to be after the same goal – a chance to start off fresh with the purchase of the Green Valley Animal Clinic.

Bridget is still suffering from the trauma of both mental and physical abuse she suffered during her last relationship. It wasn’t until she was physically slapped that she begun to realize how her boyfriend had actually been mentally abusing her for months by manipulating her actions and thoughts while making them appear that it was all her choice. Somewhere along the way, she had lost her identity and her freedom, but that slap brought it all back into focus. Now she must just figure out how to deal with the thoughts of being unworthy and the determination to be independent not allowing any man to dominate her ever again. When Dr. Doris Burgess, her boss at the veterinary clinic she works, told her she would be selling the clinic due to her ailing mother needed more of her attention and time, Bridget knows in her heart that buying the clinic she would be able to move forward in life. If she can only figure out how to buy it. It would allow her to do three things she honestly believed would be the right thing to do – keep her close knit, family oriented town just as it is, give her the ability to work with animals and people bringing both together in a loving way, and to become the Bridget she knew she could be.

Sawyer’s wife died sudden from a medical issue, that gave them no warning for, in front of Delihah, his very young daughter he nicknamed Dee Dee, while he had gone for snacks for their movie night. The trauma left his daughter a shell of her former tomboy, energetic self only talking briefly and then only in whispers. Dealing with his grief, lovingly trying to reach his daughter, and working for his family business, which he’s begun to believe wasn’t the job for him, all has him weary and tied in knots. When the job came up to work for the veterinary clinic making sure the books were correct and up to date, he jumped at the chance to get away – from life as it was and from the crushing job of working for his demanding dad. After arriving in town, meeting some of the town folks and the effect it’s having on his daughter, he begins to dream of living in a town like this, starting over in life with a smaller more rewarding job that is more into his way of thinking and basically dealing with his grief and trying to move forward. Word on the clinic going to be sold, makes him realize that this might just be what he’s been looking for.

When Bridget and Sawyer realize that each of their goals depends on the purchase of the clinic, will it have them working against each other? Or will finding out each other’s story affecting their way of thinking? Will the interaction between one little girl and a golden retriever open each of their eyes to what is really important? Will Sawyer be pulled back into the drama of his family business by his dad demanding that he return home or will being blocked out of the business finally make him see that to you can’t make yourself happy by trying to make others happy? Will the actions of Mildred’s subtle remarks and actions and the assumption of the people seeing them together having them getting closer or pulling apart as they both claim not to be open for any sort of relations? Is it possible for Bridget and Sawyer to be just friends? Will they find a way of dealing with the past making moving forward possible? Can putting Dee Dee first have them both realizing that life often offers up a second chance at love? Can a temporary job become a permanent home town?

FINDING HER VOICE is an amazing, uplifting, can’t put down book that will touch your emotions as you feel the hurt that Bridget and Sawyer both bring into the story. Love how each, through their faith. work to move forward proving that life may not be easy, but with God beside us that there’s nothing we can’t achieve. It was a joy to see how a little girl and a rambunctious dog can work their magic to bring about a happily ever after. If you love a story that pulls all your heart strings, shows the down side while proving that there is also an upside, and leaves you with a great big smile on your face, then FINDING HER VOICE is a book you need to read. Donna Gartshore has definitely given us a loving story woven with a thread of faith full of many moments that causes one to stop and take notice. I loved the one statement that said in part – “she didn’t ever want to be the kind of person who was bitter over someone else getting an answer to their prayer…even when it meant that her own prayers had gong unanswered.” FINDING HER VOICE gets my FIVE STARS and I highly recommend it to anyone that loves a fabulous, clean read that’s full of life – its ups and downs, love, joy and happily ever after.

Donna Gartshore gifted me with a pre-release copy of Finding Her Voice, with no expectation that I would write a review.

This was a highly enjoyable read that flowed seamlessly along. It was fun to return to "Green Valley" to become well acquainted with new characters, who interact with those in the previous Green Valley books. But my words here can't even begin to capture the warmth and caring depth presented as several hurting people cross paths.

Both Bridget and Sawyer are recovering from traumas in their recent pasts - as are Sawyer's seven-year-old daughter Delilah, who has only spoken in a whisper since witnessing the completely unexpected death of her mother, and likewise, Bridget's rescue dog Sophie. I absolutely loved the way Gartshore created an instant bond between the grieving child and the stressed, traumatized dog ... and it was clear that this healing bond would also serve to bring the two adults together, despite the fact that Bridget and Sawyer each had individual goals that were in direct opposition to the personal goals of the other.

For Bridget, her recent abusive relationship has led her to question her faith. For Sawyer, likewise, the shocking loss of his wife has put his faith on rocky ground. Sawyer's situation is compounded by the constant, overbearing demands of his workaholic father in the family business - from which Sawyer has escaped, temporarily, to do a financial audit for the much-loved veterinary clinic where Bridget works. And yet the clinic is jeopardized because the owner must sell, *soon*, due to the full-time needs of her aging mother. The protagonists' doubts about their faith spring very naturally from their individual situations, and the progression from these doubts is handled in an empathetic and seamless manner, with nothing cloying about it.

And the secondary characters of Green Valley! They are beautifully crafted and provide a genuinely warm and caring community for both Bridget and Sawyer (as well as Delilah and Sophie). I could feel the kind and loving hugs that were exchanged, appreciate the concern of others, and even taste the lovingly prepared meals. In this tight-knit community, Sawyer is able to risk exploring dreams he'd long since set aside, and Bridget, with caring assistance from others - especially, and unexpectedly, from Sawyer - is able to manifest her own dream. Not to mention the deeply loving new relationship that forms to unite these once-rivals.

A truly heartwarming book! Having read it, I feel uplifted. Terrific job, Donna Gartshore!

Finding Her Voice
By Donna Gartshore

Bridget Connelly has a dream of owning her own business - one that involves helping dogs and people. There is just one problem - she needs to come up with the money to make it a reality. And she needs to overcome the doubts her ex-boyfriend has planted in her mind. When her boss Dr. B as everyone refers to the local veterinarian, decides to put her business up for sale, Bridget can see her dream beginning to crumble before her very eyes. And when the auditor, Dr. Burgess hired, takes an interest in the same property, Bridget sees it slipping even farther away.

But Sawyer Blume has his own reasons for this trip away from his home. The sudden loss of his wife and his daughter's traumatic experience has left him seeking something new. Delilah isn't the young girl she was before her mother died, and Sawyer will do anything to bring back the rambunctious young girl she was - even if it means staying in Green Valley. Just leaving his former life behind isn't as easy as it sounds, especially as he works for his family's business. But the connection Delilah makes with Bridget's dog Sophie. Could Green Valley help him find what he's lost? Or is it merely a wishful dream?

When both Sawyer and Bridget's plans for the clinic are threatened, can they work together to come up with a plan to help them both? Or will Bridget's past keep her from accepting help from anyone?

Finding Her Voice is an appropriate title for this book as it has meaning for both Bridget and Sawyer's daughter Delilah. This is a contemporary romance that deals with the aftermath of abusive relationships, traumatic experiences, loss, and PTSD. Yes, there is a whole hodge-podge of issues dealt with in this book by various characters, but that isn't the focus of the story, so that it gets weighed down and depressed. No, it deals with these issues but in a way that provides hope of healing.

This author is one that is new to me, so I went into the book with no expectations of any kind other than what the book description provided. Donna Gartshore's writing is well executed. She gives her characters depth and provides a detailed setting. The subject matter was well presented. This is a Love Inspired publication, so there isn't any detailing that should be triggering to readers. Overall a good story that I would recommend.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that provide my honest opinion - all thoughts presented are my own.

Yay -- a contemporary romance set in Canada! A rare gem indeed. And you gotta love a single dad hero who struggles to bring healing to his traumatized daughter. Sawyer and little Delilah tugged at every last one of my heart strings!

So, new town with fresh perspectives -- Sawyer is testing the waters with a temporary job before committing to the upheaval a major move would cause in his little family's life. But a certain golden retriever named Sophie makes the transition way easier than he thought it could be. Only there's a catch -- Sophie's owner, Bridget, a woman who has the power to shake up all his plans and future ambitions.

There are so many emotional layers to this story! Both Sawyer and Bridget have issues in their past that need to be worked through before they can be free to commit. And they both tend to shy away from those obstacles instead of facing them head on. But, oh, the lure of romance is strong and the small town setting makes the perfect backdrop. All the while Sophie works her healing doggie magic on a grieving little girl.

Happy Sigh. The kind of feel-good escape read that will leave you basking in warm fuzzies.

I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy of this book. The characters are real and authentic and the story line is original, set in a little town in Saskatchewan, so very relatable. I love how real the people feel. They experience life as we all do with questions and without knowing the outcome of their decisions but doing their best to navigate their trials. Two of the main characters are a child and a dog, it’s not just about adulting issues. It’s taken from real life. The main characters are 3 dimensional and don’t know all the answers. I love this book. I felt uplifted and happy after reading it.

I enjoyed reading this clean, Love Inspired inspirational story!

There are heavy topics mentioned in this story like abuse, trauma and grief so this book may not be for everyone. Both of the main characters have experienced heartbreaking traumas and it was interesting to read how animal companions can help in so many ways!

Another theme in this book was about trusting God in all things; even when horrible, devastating things happen in our lives. This book was about second chances, love and finding God’s peace.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Phenomenal writing styles with a capativing storylines and techniques. The story, itself, was incredibly intriguing from the very first page to the very ending.

This was truly an emotional journey for Sawyer, Delilah, and Bridget. They all had hardships and powerful internal struggles they had to personally overcome to physically move forward into the future. I loved how positive they each were, in helping the other to achieve their goal. I also admired how the community naturally surrounded them with unbelievablly strength and unconditional love.

This talented author used her excellent creativity in writing an amazingly uplifting and inspirational story.

Highly recommended

Finding her Voice

I loved how Bridget’s dog bonds with Sawyer’s young daughter. Delilah had something dramatic happen to her. Sophie ( the dog) helped her out so much. I loved how music is used to help too. I kept wandering where the title came from, I found out it is a special part of the book. Bridget had a past to overcome and so did Sawyer. Will they be able to get together? Read the book to find out. A great story.

I received an advanced copy of the book from the author. This book review is my own opinion.

Donna Gartshore has written a lovely, tenderhearted story of what it looks like to move forward from trauma. They're both looking for a fresh start while keeping up the walls that have protected them after life dealt bitter hurts. They both have plans for the clinic where Bridget work and both are at cross purposes. But when Sawyer's grief stricken daughter bonds with Bridget's shy dog, they have to look deep to take the next step. Sweet, charming, and set in the lovely town of Green Valley, Finding Her Voice will tug at your heartstrings and have you rooting for Bridget and Sawyer.

I really enjoyed this love-inspired, romance. I bought this at a local store and I voluntarily chose to review this and I've given this a 5* rating. This clean story is full of the couple growing stronger after life has tossed some darkness in their lives. With a child and a dog to stir things up, it really touched my heart. A couple of different issues were addressed and a couple little surprises lighten the story.

I really enjoyed Finding Her Voice. It includes so many of the elements I like in a book- characters I like and care about, a small-town setting, and even my favorite kind of dog! I won't go into details that could be spoilers, but I will say that as the story wrapped up, I felt satisfied and quite emotional. Pick up this one if you like a warm, gentle, uplifting read.

Beautiful! This well-written story tugged at my heart and made me laugh out loud! Loved all of the characters, especially little Delilah! Donna Gartshore has outdone herself. A thoroughly delightful read!
