History, family, fate. Accept it or deny it at your will. To have a future they need to make peace with the past.

Condemned to a half life for helping to protect Bonnie Prince Charlie, the only way Lachlan Stuart can live properly is to find someone who trusts and believes in him in the present day.

That person is Bonnie Drummond, who is not best pleased at having her peaceful life disturbed.

Especially when she discovers just what she has to do to give him, and that it appears there are powerful entities who will stop at nothing to ensure they don't succeed.

After 30 plus years in Scotland, Raven now lives in East Yorkshire, and has swapped forest walks for coastal ones and her Aga for a hob and oven.
She still enjoys writing where she can see the birds in the garden and her lovely hubby still has to ignore the dust bunnies, rescue dinner and hand her a glass of wine while she finishes what she is writing.

Raven McAllan’s The Heather and the Plaid gives us the second story in her Castle on the Loch series and in it, we get Bonnie’s story. Not nearly as contrary as her sister, Marcail, for she is far more comfortable with her second sight even if it does make for some interesting and hawt dreams. And much like her sister, there’s a ticking down clock. True love must be had or…you don’t want to anticipate the or. Bonnie is a lovely character that I took an instant liking to. Her parents, as usual, are intentional vague and it would cause me to have outbursts as well, and of course, Lachlan is downright “dreamy.” Charming story in a delightful series. Definitely recommended.

This book certainly captured my imagination and my only regret is that I had not read the first book in the series before reading this one. It can be read as a standalone, but it does end in a sort of cliffhanger. Bonnie is a weaver and a writer. Her family has extra talents that can come in handy or be problematic depending on how you look at it. One day she hears a man's voice in her head and he likes to tease her. She soon senses that her life is about to take a turn for better or worse. She soon meets the owner of the voice in her head and then the adventure begins.
Lachlan has lived in limbo for several centuries waiting for the one who can help him finish his quest. He loves sharing thoughts and feelings with Bonnie and he hopes that she will be the one to help him since she is the one who can hear him. Read their story and follow their winding path to what each hopes will be a happy ending.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed this sort of time travel romance, but the ending was abrupt. Lachlan had helped save Prince Charlie, but someone betrayed him and called him a coward. He was condemned to a half life until he found the woman who would totally believe in him and complete some tasks. Bonnie was a modern day woman, living in a small home on her parents estate, Her family had some super natural abilities. Bonnie could see the past and present but not the future. She started hearing a voice in her head. Then he started appearing some. They went through so much, but the ending was abrupt.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
