Complication doesn’t always have to be a bad thing.
Duke Charles needs a break. He’s tired of life on the road and never having a place to settle down. He decides to head to Norville for a rest in his childhood home. Once there, he realizes his life isn’t quite so relaxed—he’s not only inherited the house, but a cat to go with it. When his friend from high school sends him on a date, he finds out how complicated life can be…in a good way.
Roy Mars likes his life as an artist. He paints, sells work and takes his cat, Raphael, for walks through Norville. He channels his emotions into his art…until he goes on a date and meets Duke. His uncomplicated life gets thrown into chaos, not least because Duke has rabid fans who insist on knowing every detail of his life.
Can Roy handle a little complication in the form of Duke, or will he quit before he finds his forever?

When social media runs your life, you sometimes have choices to make.
Duke is the drummer in a famous band who has been on tour constantly for the past 15 years. He needs some time away to get his head back on straight. Roy is famous in his own way as an artist. They get set up by the fairy godmother of Norville, James, and fall victim to insta-lust followed by insta-miscommunication.
I much preferred Duke in this story to Roy. Duke is relatable, he has his issues and has worked/is working on them. Roy seems more along the lines of ‘this is me, deal with it.’ As with book one, there were storylines that didn’t seem to go anywhere – with Ted and with the Mayor. It will be interesting to see if these are picked up in future books.
This is a low-angst book that moves at a fast pace, continuing along the lines of book one. It was a good read, but I would prefer it to be a bit more in-depth with the characters as they felt sort of wooden in places. An enjoyable read that I enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending.
At first I did not like Roy and Luke in Complicating Roy by Megan Slayer as well as Summer and Arthur in Loving Summer Rain by the same author, partly because burned-out rock stars are not my thing. But then the cats Raphael and Chester entered the story and I appreciated the character development of Roy and Luke through their love for the cats. It was entertaining to see the different levels of fame the MCs experience as artist and rock star. There are lots of hints where the series is going in the future. Who would have guessed a small town in the middle of nowhere would have such a vibrant gay community? I would guess James finding his HEA will end the series, which seems fitting to me. I received a copy of Complicating Roy by Megan Slayer from Pride Publishing and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I am going to go back and read the first book in this series.
Roy is an artist living his life in Norville with his cat. He’s that character who delves I to his artwork with so much emotion. That is until he goes on a date and meets Duke.
Duke is a burnt out rockstar who just wanted to return to Norville to his childhood home. Though not as relaxed as he hoped, his friend sets him up on a date.
Roy and Duke are complicated. They have misunderstandings after misunderstandings but will their love of cats and chemistry keep them together? Or will Dukes lifestyle catch up to them and complicate things more?
I loved Raphael and Chester. Even Duke and Roy grew on me too. Can’t wait to see what the next book will entail!
I received this arc and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
I found it entertaining that James helping Summer Rain and now helping Duke and Roy was mentioned. Nice way to connect the two together. The heroes of this book had an instant connection but also an instant misunderstanding which was a good start. Their frequent misunderstandings were a little off putting but not enough to detract from the romance. Just shows relationships can be difficult especially new ones. Their love story developed very quickly and moved at the same pace but, again, simply threw you into their relationship without a lot of him hawing around. That was enjoyable and the HEA was equally so.

Roy, artist, slightly abrasive, loving furbaby dad. Duke, burnout rockstar, learning sobriety, and a new furbaby dad.
This book was very fast instalove. Kind of a mid-length book so not a lot of backstory but enough to keep the book flowing. Decent characters, cute cats, slimy mayor, lots of feelings between Roy and Duke.
This author is great. I have read several of her books and she’s a sold read for me, I really hope to see Winstons story.

This is a book by a new to me author and I had mixed feelings about it. I sometimes have a hard time getting into the tired rock star genre, but wanted to give this one a try because the blurb intrigued me. There seemed to be a lot of misunderstandings and issues to get through for Duke and Roy. Also, to me at least, going through the beginnings of sobriety is probably not the best time to start a relationship. In the end the book was okay, just not one I would probably put to read over and over again pile.
Sometimes, you need to stop and smell the daisies! Roy, out and fabulous, is rebelling not being able to freely create his art. He's chafing under the concept of his art being 'managed'. He stands by his artistic principles. Duke and his band have been on the road for 15 years. They are all tired and suffering from burnout. Duke, decides to go home to Norville and try to recharge. Does Duke find his normal? Does Duke get his muse back? Does Roy get used to the life? Interesting story, good flow. Nice characters. Nicely done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
James the hair stylist with the mostest, succeeds again. Loved book 2 in this series as much as book 1, and looking forward to more.
Complicating Roy had a great plot, the characters were over the top but realistic, their story sweet and romantic. The chemistry between Roy and Duke is hot, and after a few short dates, that don't go as they hoped, they both realise they want to try harder. That is until they are thrust into sharing a space due to Duke's intrusive fans.
Roy is a rock star that is burnout and loves cats. Raphel is outgoing, smart, fun to be around he loves cats also. The book is fun, romantic, sweet, and all the characters are great. The book has a great flow to it, romantic, and sweet. I enjoy any books by Megan Slayer and I wasn't disappointed.
