Her mysterious past holds the key to protecting his clan.

Between helping teens at an After-School Art Club and trying to publish her granny’s fairy tales, Chantelle’s life still feels somehow unfulfilled.

When his father and older brother died, Charles was forced into the role of Alpha. Three years later, he still hasn’t dealt with the loss. Now a rival pack is stirring up trouble in his grandmother’s hometown, and he must investigate.

But that is only where the mystery begins. There’s something else going on and it starts with the mysterious and beautiful Chantelle. The secrets of her past and her untrained magical abilities hold the key to the rival pack’s attacks. And when they discover that sorcery is behind the violence against women and children in the territory, they have to trust each other and forge a connection.

But is their bond strong enough to protect the pack and fulfil a Fated Mates prophecy, or will they lead the pack, and their love, to ruin?

Reader advisory: This book contains scenes of racism, violence and attempted/threatened sexual assault. There is reference to past memory modification and the off-screen death of a teen.

Charles and Chantelle . . .

Charles Ducharme was forced to become the Alpha when his father and old brother died and he’s still trying to adjust. It seems that that the rival Trois-Rivières pack is causing problems in his grandmother’s hometown where Chantelle Mizuki also lives, and he must investigate why this is happening. So he drove to visit his grandmother Marie and calm himself down. His brothers, Thomas and Henri, and his cousins Michel, Clementine, and Bertrand, offered their support. He just had to figure how to take a step back and let them help more instead of doing everything on his own.

Chantelle had been helping at the After-School Art Club at the library. Alfonso, a student, needed to talk to her about his art school application, and they didn’t finish until it started to get dark. Her granny warned her never to go into the forest at dusk, but it was too late to avoid that now. She had accidentally locked the keys in her car, and no one was around to help her. So she started walking home. Wolves began to howl and the hair rose on her neck. The wolves they were seeing were larger and more vicious lately. They even killed local dogs.

She had reached a neighbor’s wall on the edge of the woods, and three large, shaggy shadows were standing there. She ran toward Marie’s gate, but they barred her path then circled her. The largest one bit her calf as she screamed. But suddenly her fear turned to anger and her skin tingled, ears buzzed. Chantelle reached for the wolf dragging her by the leg as energy raced down her arms to her hands. A blast of blue struck him, then a spotlight came on as Marie came to her rescue, shooting one with a rifle. By her side was a huge growling dog. As Chantelle passed out, she heard Marie talking to someone as he carried her inside and she passed out again. Will Chantelle work with Charles to find out what’s going on? Do her new magical abilities have something to do with the attacks? Is the bond they are forming strong enough to protect them and the pack?

Heart's ease was not only a shifter romance but it introduced magic and mysteries that added so much to this story. It had rival clans and myths that our main characters needs to work to understand. Chantelle and Charles were from completely different paths of life, Charles was the new alpha of the Laurentian Mountain clan after the death of his father and oldest brother. Charles was forced into a role he never really considered taking and Chantelle is an orphan who helped at risk youth channel pent up energy into art, which was something that gave her life meaning. Charles had that family support Chantelle had and lost since her grandmother passed away.

In their town there had been wolfs attacks and everyone was told to stay out of the woods at night. But one night Chantelle had to walk home through the woods, she was attacked very close to making it home and that changed her life forever. Charles and Chantelle were pulled together by fate and other magical forces neither of them was ready for.

I really enjoyed the plot as it unraveled and we learned more details making the bigger picture make more and more sense. I am very excited to read the next book in The Laurentian Mountain Clan series.

Thank you to Mimi Rose for sending me an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Chantelle lives in a small town in her Grandmothers house. She’s still mourning her passing. Trying to find her way in life, she helps youth and at risk children learn art etc. On her way home one night she is attacked by some wolves. Marie her grandmothers friend helps save her. She’s then introduced to Marie’s grandson Charles.

Charles is the Alpha of the Wolf pack. He’s still finding his feet as Alpha after a tragic accident took his father and brothers life. When he and Chantelle meet there is this connection between them and they feel like they have known each other for their whole lives.
Chantelle must unlock her past that has been blocked from her and uncover her hidden Fae powers. The fated mates are the Prophecy “The Wolf King and The Fae Queen”.
These two must learn to balance their love for each other, Protecting their Pack and fight off the opposing wolf pack who have Chantelle and Charles as their target.

First book I've read by Mimi B. Rose but wont be the last. When Charles Ducharme's father and older brother die, he is forced to become the Alpha of the Laurentian Mountain Clan. When the rival Trois-Rivières pack starts causing problems where his grandmother lives, he goes to investigate. Chantelle Mizuki lives there and is attacked walking home and rescued by Charles's grandmother. They meet and there is chemistry, but there is a ton of push and pull between these two. Can these two find their HEA? There is a lot of sizzle, steam, action, and drama. I look forward to reading more about this shifter community.
I received an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest review.

Wow, Mimi had me captivated from cover to cover! I look for romance novels that combine an intriguing story with lots of steamy heat and this satisfied my every expectation. Chantelle and Charles, fated mates, are truly delectable characters whose chemistry builds throughout the book. The shifter story itself was beautifully written and I enjoyed the many French Canadian references. To me, this is a perfect debut novel, fascinating, hot and entertaining which has me looking forward to the next one. If you are still wondering if you should read this book, I recommend that you do, you will not be disappointed.

Charles and Chantelle have a push and pull relationship right from the start. He pushes her away several times only to ask her to come back, and she runs away only to let him bring her back in. Lots of delicious steam to be found and an instant connection from the fates that both deny and fight against until the last 25% or so of the book. Shifters are terrorizing the town where Chantelle lives, and she comes under the protection of Charles' clan. They have to unravel the mystery of why, who, and how before it's too late. The story ends in a HFN and leaves room for future books. A good debut.

Charles and Chantelle occasionally got on my nerves with all their "i want to be with you but i shouldn't" i don't blame them for protecting their hearts but it happens a little too frequently. Aside from that, I very much enjoyed this PNR interweaving of fairytales and myths with the realisms of everyday living. This story was filled with heart and family and strenght of character, of loyalty, of home being where the heart is and sadly it had some harsh realities. I can't wait for the other sisters and for the mystery of the cloaked figures to be revealed.

A very well written shifter romance.

The characters of Charles and Chantelle and the fated mates romance truly draws one in and the chemistry between these two roles builds throughout the book; the book also contains a lot of steamy scenes and really does leave one constantly wanting to know more about Charles and Chantelle's relationship.

A great follow up to the prequel and a brilliant step into the world of the Laurentian Mountain shifter clans.

I highly recommend this for any lover of shifter romance fantasies .

Its was an enjoyable book. Few typos but not much else. The story itself was interesting. Charles and Chantelle both have their own trust issues. There were a few moments in the book I was lost and confused. Very romantic though.

Heart’s Ease was a moderate paced shifter romance and explored the concept of Fated Mates. It is the first in a series and sets the stage for the Laurentian Mountain Clan and future trials that they will face. It has a HEA and a good story line. I can’t wait for the next book to release!
