'His was a simple faith. Trust Jesus, be good to people and everything else would work out.'
This little book was so very good. At times, it was a bit hard to read because of these two sweet children's lives before their aunt assumed responsibility for them. Linda Goodnight has another winner to add to her books. The characters are very well thought out--so much so that the reader just feels them burrowing into her heart. I did! Bowie is a wonderful and godly man, stable, honest, faithful and just a man after God's own heart. A true book hero. Sage, a new believer, is trying so hard to do the right thing with these two precious children and her new walk with Christ. I loved the townspeople, too! Great series. I can't wait for the next book.
I love it when the first sentence in a novel grabs my attention...like this one:
"She was pretty sure kidnapping was a federal offence."
Yikes!!! what has this heroine gotten herself into?! You better believe the author had my attention and I didn't put the book down until I figured out all of Sage's past and why she had such anxiety over taking her niece and nephew -- and that means I read this book in one sitting because Goodnight is cagey with dangling bits of the truth but always leaving me wanting more. Emotionally satisfying. Heart-rending at times.
Bowie is is one swoonalicious cowboy hero. A man who is right with God and lives out his simple faith by loving his neighbour. Be still my heart. Sage is the high school crush who got away only now she's back and more complicated than ever. And his heart goes out to the two fearful kids she has in tow. He wanted to know their story as much as I did! And it's a doozie!
This is the second book in the Sundown Valley series and can easily be read as a standalone but I love that we get to catch up with Wade and Kyra and the triplets -- eeeppp!!! And there's a bit of a thrilling cliffy style lead-in to the next book. I can't wait!!!!!

A friend (MH) sent me this book.
Sage's coping mechanism for years has been to run away, so little wonder that she grabs her niece and nephew and runs away. I understand the run away before they hurt you or abandon you mentality.
Bowie's and Sage's history makes the pace of their relationship more believable. Their histories also make their understanding of Paisley and Ryder work.
I liked learning a little about leather working through Bowie. I liked Ms. Bea having a gathering place (bakery) where many ages felt comfortable and safe and being concerned about leaving her town with no other place like that.
I didn't expect that several of the characters would have had such traumatic pasts. That was some serious subject matter. I really liked Sage's foster mother, Bea. She was such a good woman. Also, Bowie had had a very rough childhood before being taken in by an aunt and uncle, but he was a good, decent man.
I read all sorts of things, and I'm relatively okay with inspirational romances if the characters are not pushing their faith onto those who don't want it, or being intolerant. I know a surprising amount of biblical stories and quotations, considering that it's something I've never formally studied.
I enjoyed Blake and Sage's story. Their backgrounds as foster children provide them a unique perspective when dealing with Sage's niece and nephew. With their mother incarcerated, their ain't swept in to take them somewhere safe. She reconnects with her foster mother, helping out at her bakery and with her best friend. When her past catches up with her she does the only thing that she thinks will keep them safe, but will it work? You're going to want to read this book to find out.
I liked that the main character, Sage Walker, is determined to protect her niece and nephew. I liked the heroes' hobby turned business of leather working. I hadn't seen that in a book before and thought it was an interesting thing to include in the story. I thought the ending a bit rushed, but I loved the surprise twist that will have me looking for the next book in the Sundown Valley series.
I loved Bowie and Sage’s story. Sage is trying to keep her niece and nephew safe. She comes back to her hometown to do that. I enjoyed her aunt Bea and how Sage helped her out in her business. I loved the relationship the children had with each other.
I brought this book from the reader service. This book review is my own opinion.
Sage and Bowie had been friends all through high school until the day she took off to become a fashion model. Now,she was back in Sundown Valley with two children. Are the children hers, can they be more than friends now, will she stay or leave once again taking his heart with her. All ages will enjoy this story.
The story was beautiful but I had to keep a box of Kleenex hand. The characters are great and I was so glad to get to know some of the towns people. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
This book made me tear up!! So much hope despair angst and a sweet, well earned happy ending. Loved the small town setting, Mrs Bea, and Bowie!!! I could talk forever about Bowie. And I loved Sage, too, and how she loved those poor kids. Great book
You know there’s a problem the entire book, a growing, possibly fatal romance. But story ,characters , circumstances work to a, if not expected, logical conclusion. Very sweet.
I got this book from a neighborhood free library. I rarely read Christian or clean books, but I have to say that I have been missing out on good writing, a great plot, and a well paced story not dependent on sex to move it along. I loved this novel, it’s a great read.
Bowie it’s probably the sweetest guy in Sundown Valley. He’s pretty much everyone’s friend and always available to help out. Even without having to be asked. So it shouldn’t surprise Sage that he jumps in to help her when she returns home with her niece and nephew in tow.
What wonderful story of hope, redemption, and forgiveness. Sage Walker starts the story by kidnapping her niece and nephew, Paisley and Ryder, to give them a better life. She comes back to Ms. Bea and her bakery, to the best home she herself had ever had, in Sundown Valley. Sage is scared from breaking the law and running from her past mistakes. Bowie Trudeau is one of God’s truly good men! He has loved Sage since he was sixteen. Dare he trust and give her his heart? Linda Goodnight has a well-written and insightful story of what young children go through when neglected, and or, abused. This is a heartwarming story. I can’t wait for her to tell Yate’s story!!!
