The Honor might have survived the first encounter with the Nazuc, but it won't be the last. Before the next engagement, Captain Masters and his ad hoc crew will need to find help.
But will anyone beyond the belt be interested in joining the fight?
Beyond the Belt is the second book in the Honor in Exile series, which features plenty of aliens, action, and the worst—and best—of humanity.
Interesting enough, a good continuation of #1. However, reads simplistically or like it was written by someone very young. Ideas don't always connect or aren't fully developed. There's nothing wrong with it and I'll probably finish the trilogy, but glad I bought the whole set for 0.89p
This book was better than the first one. I liked the characters. The aliens were great characters. There was more action and the story had heart. I would recommend it.
Captain Roc Masters and crew of the Destroyer Honor, lead a small fleet in starting to develop a Resistance to the aliens that have enslaved earth. Fighting the invades with a 100 year old Honor with gui, risky tactics, and sheer gut. Start gathering ships that escaped capture. Face with insurmountable odd. They will not stop their unstoppable pursuit of freeing humanity!
Book 2 follows the pattern established in the first book and skillfully adds new characters and cast, continues character development for established crew and offers new plans and direction for the plot. Several battles with some decisive actions increase storyline tension and intensity. Book two ends with some story threads resolved and a soft launch into the planned next installment.
This is typical space adventure with lots of unexpected events and characters. It’s fairly fast moving and interesting. The Alien characters are quite friendly so the interactions are copacetic and the companionships are great. Book 2 should be better.
A little disappointed by the fact the book did not take long to read, it seemed quite short. That does not say it was no good but the story did flow well with the encounters they went through just ended abruptly.
This is a good space opera and the storyline is improving. The story itself is standard with a few interesting ideas. An obsolete ship, crew of misfits join with A few other untrustworthy vessels to fight back against an alien conquest of the solar system and using their own technology against them. The characters are a bit thin, the battles a bit one sided against a supposed technologically superior enemy and the treachery was blindingly obvious. Still it is very readable in a light way
BEYOND THE BELT is an exciting sequel to STARSHIP HONOR. The characters are fully developed and interesting. The plot is simple but not easy with many thrilling surprises along the way. On to Book Three!
