I was preparing to drop the series after Volume 6, which felt like mostly filler. Fortunately, this next book brought things back to the usual quality. Which is good for fans of GameLit Isekai / Light Novels, but not great.

Atobe's stalwart companion Therese has been inflicted with a curse which is progressively dominating her. When it completes its progression in a few days, she will be completely under the control of the Simian Lord. And just defeating the Simian Lord within that timeframe- the enemy who kicked their butts and sent them packing only hours earlier (at the end of the last book)- won't be enough to end the curse. So it's a mad dash for answers as well as weapons and strategy before the clock runs out.

And of course, in the meantime, Atobe is clueless (willfully clueless?) about the attentions being paid him by his female companions. I mean, sheesh, at a certain point it gets a little ridiculous. That's a popular trope for this genre, I suppose, and unlike many other isekai protagonists he's actually a good, supportive guy and an effective team captain, and his semi-deliberate cluelessness is in part from his desire to maintain a professional relationship.

The series also suffers from spammy game-log-like stats which you have to pay attention to, because they do provide part of the narrative. Fortunately, again, it seems better this time around than in the previous volume.

Anyway - it's fun, light reading for fans of the genre. I liked this one enough that I will plan on reading #8 when it comes out.

Another good volume.

The author managed to deliver another great volume on this serie. Introducing more characters and advancing the story at a good pace. The combination of narrative and game mechanics is nicely balanced and written, making it a nice touch in the worldbuilding. A good cliffhanger that will make you read the next volume as soon as possible.

I really like this series. The adventure and everything i just think that there are more and more characters and skills to keep track of and that sometimes can be very tiresome.
