Seeing how the young princes have grown under Heine’s tutelage, King Viktor decides the time has come to choose his successor. His five sons will have one last opportunity to demonstrate their worthiness—in the form of a speech that will be delivered to the whole city! The future of Granzreich will be decided in the final volume of The Royal Tutor!
I was not expecting Eins to choose the youngest as a successor. That was unexpected. The ending also left me quite emotional with how they all grew up and led their own lives. Endings with extended epilogue like that always make tear up.

The series wraps up with a final test – a public speech! Heine’s mission from Day One was to train the four princelings into suitable candidates for the throne, and now they must prove themselves without their tutor’s help. That’s not to say they don’t get encouragement, and this final volume includes cameos from characters we’ve met throughout the series. As for the ultimate conclusion, it’s… uh, complicated? Even so, fans will likely approve of The Royal Tutor’s harmonious conclusion.
The Review
It’s the final volume, and the series wraps up with an extra-long installment – 242 pages! But even though it’s so long, it really just focuses on one arc. After a single chapter that briefly reunites Heine with his old acquaintance Gustav, the king announces his final test to decide his successor: a public speech at the Founding Day celebration at Weinner City Hall.
Thus Heine’s last group lesson in this series is public speaking! Interestingly, despite his presentations in the academic realm, Bruno considers himself a novice and freaks out as much as his brothers when the royal tutor assigns them a speech in front of the palace staff as practice. And because public speaking generally doesn’t come naturally and is a huge fear for many, their struggles leading up to the practice run are both funny and relatable.
Then Heine unexpectedly kicks the princelings out of the nest by declaring he won’t provide any assistance for the actual Founding Day speeches. Thus, as the princelings rely solely on their own efforts to accomplish the task, Heine’s job switches from instructor to cheerleader. Joining him in encouraging the princes are all the side characters with whom they formed connections throughout the series. Surprisingly, Eins and Count Rosenberg also offer genuine words of support right before they present themselves at the City Hall ceremony.
By the way, for those who enjoy admiring the princes’ wardrobe, they don formal wear for the occasion, which I don’t believe we’ve seen before.
As for the speeches and the king’s ultimate decision, I won’t give away the ending, but it was both like and unlike what I expected. The princes have always harbored affection for each other (this manga is definitely NOT a cutthroat succession drama), so it’s no surprise that it incorporates a collaborative spirit. However, the issue of Eins’ lingering problem around women is addressed in an unexpected way. Anyway, the resolution isn’t exactly simple, but readers will likely find it satisfying.
And yes, like most manga, the ending includes a glimpse of the main characters’ futures.
Extras include illustrations on the inside of the covers, the first page printed in color, and afterword.

The perfect end for the series. It's always been headed that way and it never strayed from the finishing line :) I'm glad for it, but it seems strands of the story got let go prematurely before the end which is a bit sad :/
I also wished And it was so sad to read that
At least, returned!!
(But also: Would it not have been something if all princes had been Franz Ferdinanded on the balcony, kicking off the sequel series "World War Tutor"??? Imagine.)
A satisfying conclusion to a fun series. Even though it dipped in quality in the middle by having the mysteries drag out too long, it ended well with, in my opinion, the right prince(s) becoming King.
Leonhard is the one we saw studying the most throughout the series and the one who changed the most, so he definitely was the one I was rooting for. I was sad that Eins didn’t reunite with his lost love Matilda in the end after he stepped down… that would’ve made it perfect for me. The author said he never took a wife but I’ll hope that means he still found and got together with Matilda at some point. I also wish we’d gotten more details on the personal lives (wives and kids) of the other princes in the future.
I did find myself getting a little choked up during the speeches portion realizing this was the last I’d ever see of these characters. I’ll miss the antics of the princes.
All in all, a manga that’ll hold a special place in my heart for the loveable characters.
Final average of all 17 volumes: 4.03/5

An overall 4.8/5 series for me. I did not expect to love it this much especially since it is a slice of life manga and that is so not my genre but this series man it had me from the start. The story is about a royal tutor who came to the palace to nurture four princes to be worthy king candidates. A moving and inspiring story on the importance of education and privilege. I have come to love the third son Prince Bruno as his thirst for knowlege is so inspiring and motivating especially for someone like me who aspires to be a scholar. You will grow attached to each one of them and when it is time to part your heart will weep and ache. I cannot believe the series is over but then again when I miss them (which I know I will), I can just reread the series as it is so worth it and extremely motivating. As a burnt out uni student, this is exactly the manga that I need :')
I'm so happy! I really loved this volume! I think this was the right ending for the princes as a family and as individuals. They've all come so far under Heine's tutelage and have done great things through their own strength and efforts. I wish we could read more volumes to see the bright future they'll make, but I'm okay with ending things here. I'm so proud of these boys! This has been an incredible journey.
It hurts my heart to be finally finishing this series after seventeen volumes with these characters, but I enjoyed it like crazy and it will forever be a series that will be close to my heart from now on. Truly a warm and captivating story that well worth the read!
I loved this series so much! It had just the right ending for me (the prince I wanted to be king got to be king!). I just wish I hadn't taken two years to get through it all, lol!
