My life has only gotten crazier since I found the hole in my backyard that led to a magical underground world.
But I wouldn’t change it for anything.
I own my own land, my wife, Ibseth, is a beautiful Night Elf who adores me, and my gorgeous half-demon partner Amrila is the perfect companion to have at my side while I loot the underground dungeon world known as the Gloom.
But Ibseth’s insane half-brother is still hunting for her, and I need a way to take care of him for good.
This does not have much story to it. And the characters have zero growth. This feels like a transition piece put in to buy time. Nothing really bad going on, but nothing really good either.
This can be considered pulp fiction without much depth. Logan Jacobs is no J. R. R. Tolkien or J. K. Rowling but I don't think he is trying to be. If you are looking for something for a moderate amount of enjoyment without too much thought then have at it. I will say this it is the best of his work that I have seen. His other books I could not stomach and his take on male/female relationships is a bit on the adolescent side. The closest series that I would equate his books to would be the Richelle Mead Succubus series but even that author writes better in my opinion.
This book lacks the novelty of being the first in the series, but it's an enjoyable follow up.
There are a lot more sex scenes, some of which seem unnecessary. The new characters introduced and the furthering of the overarching plot keep me interested, although the specific plot of this book wasn't as good as the first. The final battle was pretty well done, though.
What would you do if you found a doorway to a fantasy world in your backyard? In the second installment of the Backyard Dungeon, we are able to see Eddie continue to find his way through the Gloom, meet another tribe of Night Elves, fight new and interesting monsters, find new allies and friends-maybe even a future wife!?! Logan Jacobs’s sequel has everything you would want in a fast paced adventure book. Eddie is able to capitalize on his wealth and a increase his power by adding new weapons, who brought a gun to a sword fight, and powerful new allies in the Dolroth tribe of Night Elves as he continues to try and find a way to defeat Ibseth’s crazy brother. This book moves quickly and keeps your attention. While shifting between adventuring in the Gloom and living on the surface, this book gives you a little slice of both sides of Eddie’s new life. The adjustment of the girls to technology and surface life is interesting, although essential limitless wealth that Eddie now has makes it easy. The book ends with a great battle and sets things up for a good book 3. How he adds Amrila as a new wife adds an explosive ending as well in its own right. I can’t wait to pick up where book 2 left off and see Eddie’s next adventures.
I hate to put this in writing, but I didn’t review book 1. I simply jumped straight into book 2 as it popped up at the end of book 1. Let's just say I enjoyed it that much. I really enjoyed the anticipation and the nibbles from the first book and the second. Those nibbles, turned into a great end of book 2.
I think I only found like one or two uncaptured edit, but, that's all I can say that is even remotely negative. I especially enjoy a writer who knows the difference between a clip, and a mag. It drives me nuts to see a writer call a magazine a clip. I also love an AK. They are a very sturdy weapon that gets a lot of abuse. You could fire 1000 rounds, not clean it, and still fire another 500 (huge examination by the way *clean your guns well*).
I look forward to the next book in the series. Eagerly in fact.
Mistakes: I didn't find any, but did skip three decent sized chunks of this book.
Plot: Hunting a wraith and some politics. No real looting to speak of. The sex was stupid, corny, and juvenile. All three times it brought nothing to the story. The sex could have been left out and would have actually improved the story.
Characters: I do like the characters, however the sex is so badly done that it hurt the story. Also they didn't even bother to take the weapons and armor of those enemies that they killed. Armor and weapons can be sold! Lack of smart looting also hurts this story.
4/10 Short read that would be fine if you are stuck in the bathroom otherwise give it a pass.
The book equivalent to the movies Beastmaster or Conan the Destroyer.
This book, other than the adult content, would feel right at home next to Beastmaster, Conan the Destroyer, or the like. It's escapism where the hero overcomes adversity, there's very low stakes, but the world is fun, and it's light. Don't come into this book expecting some deep introspection of the human psyche. That said, it's enjoyable and fun escapism - put away the world of greys and moral ambiguity and just enjoy a story where the hero is a hero, and wins in the end (to be continued - not really the end right now).
This story does *not* end on a cliffhanger, for which I am appreciative.
Better than the First Book-- and that one was great!
Logan Jacobs has done it again. Book Two in his Backyard Dungeon series is a hoot. Eddie Hill is back and fighting bad guys in the vast underground world accessed thru a mine shaft in his backyard. Beautiful fantasy women--Night Elves, half-demons, and others yet to be identified. To protect his growing family, Eddie leads great struggle against a mad king who is in league with some seriously bad dudes from the lower regions, demons and worse. Like Book One, there are infrequent episodes of sexual play, but they are tastefully written and important to the story arc. Highly recommended. Looking forward to Book Three.
Always a fun day when Logan Jacobs releases a new book, and Backyard Dungeon is one of those books that grips you from the start!
And book 2 is the kind of book you don't want to put down, with new allies made, enemies rising from the Dark and bigger plots coming to light, who would want to?
So far so good with the storyline, although the few sex scenes were a little ordinary with the same old phrases used in all cheap porno’s, I would prefer some variety and more romantic words to accompany a loving relationship than the ones used here. Other than that it was a really fun read with dungeon diving and loot gathering as the story slowly expands. Looking forward to more.
The author surprises me over and over again with these masterpieces
I loved the book these books bring me the inner most joy I could have. The story was great the action is on par with the first and the eroticism of this book is flawless. I rated this 5 stars because of how much this book pulled me in. I would recommend anyone who would listen and appreciate what this author as made.
This book shocked me because it isn't often the second book is this good. It has just the right amount of suspense without drawing it out to long. The action was amazing with just the right amount of sex. I love how the women in this story don't just throw themselves at the mc. He really has to work for it and It definitely makes it feel more earned. Great book, would certainly recommend.
I love this series of books! If Logan Jacobs wasn't so prolific, I would be frustrated waiting for book 3. Fortunately, he has written several already as well as other books. I don't just recommend this book or this series, but check out all the books he writes! Definitely read Backyard Dungeon and also look for Welcome to Heathen Row. I hope you enjoy his writing like I do.
Book 2 of Backyard Dungeon was ever fun and enjoyable, we get to see more world building, gear upgrades and a amazing final boss fight. The beginning of the book in my opinion was a little boring at times but some chapter were nice, like when they went to the arcade but More to the end was when It really picked up and was hard to put down.Their was new characters new land to explore, the final fight and by the end we get a nice spicy sense.(Definitely recommend)
3.5. Seems like a lot of filler around a modest amount of plot progression. Direct continuation of book one, and seems to be headed in the same formula of a lot of books with really predictable progression. If you like that sort of thing (and a lot of people apparently do) you my get more out of this than I did.
This book represented a slight but noticeable improvement on the character development from the last book. At its core this book series seems to be a pretty straightforward wish fulfillment type of story. It's an interesting twist on the transported to another world trope.
Eddie is still climbing down the well in his back yard going on more adventures into another world of life & death. He is also meeting beautiful women and one has become his wife and another will become a wife. He also finds a lost tribe of dwarfs who help him to kill a shadow demon.
Not a lot of new in this book, fairly fun, simple adventure. A complaint I have is that if you know that an enemy is harmed by light you get the flashlight attachment for your rifle. Even if it makes you have to push a whole other button. Come to think of it, maybe you should have had that all the time. You adventuring in a dark world after all.
The author kept me coming back to read more of the story, and while I did notice an occasional error, the errors were less than those I normally see in ebooks (maybe the proofreaders had time to correct most of them prior to me reading this ebook?). I am looking forward to reading more of Logan Jacob's books!
This is such a great series, it fast paced, with an incredibly engaging storyline. The world and characters within the pages are truly a delight! I eagerly await the next in the series!
Totally entertaining. Eddie is a great MC. Love the ladies... A great mix. Just don't understand the science/magic of the dungeon...unless the door is a portal to another world or a pocket universe. Keep up the good work. Res non verba!
I read the first one, and thought, it's alright, not great but not bad. After reading this one, it's beginning to grow on me, making me wonder about the next one
An action packed, fun adventure series!!! Wonderful characters, enjoyable adult fantasy activities and great characters!!! You'll laugh and cheer throughout this series!!!
Definitely a fan of this author and am very much enjoying this series. Lots of action with some well done adult content thrown in for good measure. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
I’m really enjoying this series, it’s the best he’s written in awhile in my opinion. This book was a great continuation and set a good track of where the story will go from here
The premise is quite original, overall the feel is light and fluffy, with good action and sex scenes. Development of secondary characters is minimal. Looking forward to the next book to see where the storyline goes.
I liked the consistency of quality here. The only real downside I found is that maybe it could've been longer, but that's hardly enough to gripe about. It just speaks to how much I enjoyed the ride. Keep up the good work.
Love this series and can't wait for the next book to come out. Just wish they were a bit longer, I fly through them in just 3 days, or maybe their that good that I don't realize I'm sitting and reading for hours on end.
Great story. Character development of not only the main characters but the support characters is among the best. My on!y issue is length of the book. Everything is going on but then you have reached the end of the book and wishing for a lot more
I’m enjoying this series and looking forward to reading more. The story reminds me of a fun d&d Underdark adventure but with sexual tension, sex and a charming courting mixed in.
