About The Author
Bijaya Kumar Mishra is a doctor, a medical scientist and an author. After spending many years of his life to alleviate people’s pain, he now works as a scientist in the field of medical research. His debut book ‘Ineligible’ has been acclaimed widely. When he is not working or writing, he can be found watching or reading thrillers. You can get in touch with him through:
"We humans are so greedy and possessive about everything – people, money, things – everything. We don’t even bother about whether we actually need them or not. If at all we need them, how much do we need them? But look at the flying termites. They are so sensible. They don’t hesitate to lose even a part of their own body when they don’t need it anymore. Isn’t that a beautiful and mature way to live life?"
This is the story of a small-town young girl whose life is turned upside down when the man she adores passes away. She has a deep secret that she can't share with anyone. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she finds a stranger who arrives unexpectedly and restores her faith in love.
However, new love brings with it a web of falsehoods, and the girl must expose the secret she has been keeping for years in order to escape catastrophe.
The plot is simple and straightforward, and I loved how the story came to a close. The setting automatically adds to the thrill. Most significantly, the writer's style of writing and the manner suspense is produced and sustained are admired. The story's many twists and turns provide enough hay for the reader and keep them hooked until the end. Every single character stands out as being incredibly intriguing.
Lies Look Like Love by Bijaya Kumar Mishra is a spellbinding mystery romance novel in the most beautiful and captivating of settings: A small, rainy, forest town. This story kicks off in the midst of an emotionally charged moment of despair - setting the stage for the chilling mysteries that lie ahead. But as the pages turned, I realised that this level of intensity wasn't limited to the intriguing introduction - and that every single piece of this story was in fact just as powerful.
The story begins at a villa in a remote place, where Maya has just lost her husband, Ansh, and the plot develops from there. When she meets Ravi, a new tenant in Maya's Villa and a research scholar in herbs, she is depressed and grieving over the death of her husband. She is carrying a profound secret with her that she is not able to share with anybody. After she finds consolation in Ravi, her life takes an unexpected turn, she begins to trust in love once again, and everything changes. However, the narrative takes unforeseen twists in Maya's life, as with her new found love comes new lies. Dark, moody, and with a sense of foreboding, Lies Look Like Love boldly delivers a generous combo of suspense, mystery, unconventional love, and heart wrenching scenarios.
When I first heard about this book, one of the things that piqued my interest and left me wondering was what the title truly meant — and there's a very particular point in the novel when the title is echoed in the story that simply had such a powerful impact on me as I read it. The story is narrated in a straightforward way, which contrasts nicely with the poignant subject matter it deals with. The writing is graceful, straightforward, and not excessively expressive.
Lies Look Like Love is a mind-bending whirligig of a novel that is fiendishly smart and full of twists and turns. It's a hall of mirrors where everything, even the people who live there, is a distorted image of themselves. Author Bijaya lures, tricks, and sets obstacles to drive you into his toils. With his unreliable characters, he creates a universe that is at once baffling, scary, and delightful, drawing you into a world where illusion influences reality and time envelops you in a haunting embrace of mystery and joy. Before I knew it, I had been entangled in this narrative and was unable to free myself from its grasp.
By placing us in the same unnerving darkness as Maya, author Bijaya creates a blanket of dread and bewilderment around the reader. Danger pulsates in every direction. Every page is like skating on a very thin sheet of ice. However, despite the fact that you can't see the freshly hideous future taking form in front of you, you can feel it nonetheless. I'm not discussing it on purpose since the fact that it comes as a surprise to you as the reader is really essential because it's also unexpected for the heroine. As Maya comes to comprehend the gravity of the situation she finds herself in, so will you. And this realisation allows you to experience her journey with her in a significant way.
This book has an extraordinarily strong message that is very delicately weaved into it from the very beginning. When the story starts, you aren't aware of how crucial each of these events is until you read on, and as you read, these pieces of the story come together to build a scenario that provides such a raw, honest picture of a very pertinent subject that is so relevant.
The way this story is mapped out and how it gradually unfolds is incredibly creative. Every word used is carefully selected and holds an importance that will eventually be revealed. Even the subtleties will ultimately tie into the final grand picture. This is obviously no easy feat for a writer, but I must admit that it came across as graceful and entirely effortless. One of my favourite aspects of this story was the ease of the dialogue and how truly natural and real it all felt. Highly recommended.
Lies Look Like Love by Bijaya Mishra is a suspense thriller that includes love, sinister actions, and a web of lies. Our protagonists Maya and Ravi have their respective back stories would those buried secrets allow them to come together and take a plunge into a loving relationship?
Maya is a widow who feels gloomy and even hallucinates after the demise of her husband Ansh. She stays with her sisters and two caretakers at an isolated villa in an unnamed location. Ravi, a research scientist, comes into the picture as a prospective tenant of the outhouse of the villa. Slowly, Maya and Ravi realise their brewing feelings for each other but amidst this, is the web of secrets and lies that keep the two conscious.
Lies look like Love is a pageturner by Bijaya that managed to have my attention right from page one. I was quite intrigued by the plot that had numerous plot twists and a certain air of enigma. The characters were sketched well and their relations with each other were portrayed clearly. Besides, I liked the lucid writing that made reading this thriller book a smooth experience.
While I absolutely liked the build-up of the story and how the narrative put together references to mental illness, I found the climax a bit underwhelming. It was unpredictable, for sure. But perhaps, it could have been expressed more enticingly.
What I absolutely loved about the book was how it is mapped out. It is a sure-shot recommendation for the lovers of thriller novels, especially beginners. However, if you already are an avid reader of this genre, you might find it does not really match your taste. Nevertheless, Lies Look Like Love was my first by Bijaya and I cannot wait to read more by him.
The book is a page-turner, kept me at the edge of my seat, and I love the plot twists. The language is lucid, and the narration is flawless. Without giving any spoilers, I just want to say that this book is impressive, and for sure, you can't predict the end. So, if you're a thriller book lover, pick this one. I highly recommend it.
One of the hallmarks of a person's maturity is knowing how to understand the things that matter to others. Even if they don't care for themselves. This is a story of a young girl, Maya, with a devastating past who embarks on a passionate, intriguing journey to discover the lessons of life, love, trust, and above all, the healing power that only truth can bring.
Much darker than I had expected, Lies Look Like Love is a harsh read that will clobber your heart, leaving you bloody and broken. It's the kind of story that is not meant to leave you flabbergasted by the sudden twist of events - although it's a mystery novel - rather it's meant to rattle your bones with its raw, visceral intensity. The story was so emotionally charged.
The story doesn't just suck you in, it transforms you. You're still the same person after finishing the book, but there's a little something extra that's been added to your life. The characters were unique and real, with their own personalities and quirks. You can tell right away that something is up with Maya, and I couldn't help but wonder what the reasons were. The writing was poignant and absorbing, making you experience a cascade of emotions and feel Maya's gut-wrenching turmoil.

Maya is living a second life of heartache, pain and intolerable memories, one tragic incident, one moment of time robbed her of the bright, happy girl she once was. This broken girl just wants to live her life and attempt to hide her secrets from those around her. Ravi has had more than his fair share of troubles, moves into Maya's mansion and becomes fascinated by the strange rumours that are spreading across the town about Maya and her sisters. The intersection of Maya and Ravi's lives begins the journey of redemption, healing, friendship, and love and ultimately the story of one tragically beautiful girl and one solitary boy who find each other amongst the pain of their own difficulties.
The way Bijaya Kumar Mishra tells this story is genius. It's a slow evolution. We see glimpses of Maya's memories, but we're left to figure it out right along with her. Just when you think you have it figured out, another piece of the puzzle is revealed and takes you even deeper than you expected. And when it finally all comes together, it is so heart-breaking and even more beautiful than you can imagine. Every single character had their place and purpose, the writing was flawless and the dialogue was enchanting.
Author Bijaya has a knack for dealing with the tough stuff and writing it in a way that captures all the emotions and conveys the enormity of the situation while still maintaining a bit of levity. This story is about love, loss, secrets, lies, and the lengths we go to in order to protect the people dear to us. It was definitely a way deeper and more intense storyline than I thought it would be.
The story is set in a small rainy town where Maya who recently lost the love of her life, Ansh, lives with her sisters and house help. Ever since the untimely demise of Ansh, Maya has been haunted by a stalker which makes her question her sanity.
But then enters Ravi, a bachelor looking for a place to rent. When Maya meets Ravi, a couple of coincidences, reminds her of Ravi's similarity to Ansh and she instantly starts liking him.
But with new love comes new mysteries from both sides. Lies look like Love is a beautiful amalgamation of suspense, love, thriller and amazing plot twists, which will keep you intriguing till the very end. Quite gripping honestly.
Lies Look Like Love is like a puzzle that comes without the picture on the box. You start to put together the edges to form some sort of frame and learn that it has something to do with a girl named Maya. Her story is definitely different from all the contemporary stories. It was real, mysterious, heart-breaking, and it's definitely tragic yet it was beautiful.
The story is emotionally charged from start to finish. There is no need to be afraid of dark problems. There are emotions that without pain are impossible to experience. They are beautiful emotions because they come from healing. They come from a heart that has been broken, damaged. A heart that has been reunited.
Bijaya Kumar's writing is absorbing, captivating, and flows so smoothly that you barely feel the pages slipping by. His meticulousness to detail as he develops the story brings it to life. I'm not talking about detailed descriptions; I'm talking about those little personalized touches that make a story real. Those little pieces that seem completely random until you finally realize that they all fit perfectly, seamlessly. Highly recommended.
The story is about a small town girl whose life takes an unexpected turn when the person she loves dies. She’s left heartbroken but when a stranger arrived in her life, she found love again. But her new love brought in a web of secrets that would prove dangerous if not disclosed. Will she be able to expose the truth to save lives?
A story with unexpected twists & turns that will keep you on your toes. The characters and the narration are both amazing and full of surprises. I enjoyed reading it and finished it in one sitting. Definitely recommended.
Life doesn't go in a straight manner. It has its own crests and troughs. This novel which seems like a usual love story at the first sight turned out to be a humdinger of affairs full of twists at every juncture.
The story is centered around a woman Maya who has lost her beloved Ansh and is at the brink of losing sanity when she discovers that unsusual stuff is said about her sister. The line between illusion and reality is quite bleak and every character has an essential role to play. The dots are difficult to connect at the beginning but soon every thing , every event starts making sense once you approach the climax.
The tale is crafted in an impressive manner. The best thing about the book is author hasn't gone over the board in his expressions and has left subtle hints to take cues from. Also the portrayal is quite honest and doesn't seem forced . Everything flows out naturally. The title is apt and cover is nice too.
LIES LOOK LIKE LOVE by Bijaya Kumar Mishra. @invinciblepublishers ___ It's #free to read 📚 on #kindleunlimited ___ Release date: 31/01/2022 232 pgs Genre: #mystery ___ The title & the cover fit perfectly with the story. MAYA is the main character in the story..a widow & an orphan who lives with her sister, PIHU in a huge villa on the outskirts of a town, near the jungle. Her husband, ANSH had an untimely demise. She is stressed because she thinks due is constantly being stalked by someone, but she's not sure whether it's real or a creation of her imagination. Pihu keeps talking about SAMIRA, her behavior but her identity is a suspense for the reader. The second main character is RAVI, 33years old, who visits Maya, in search of an accommodation. How these characters gel together to form a mystery story, is very interesting to read. The last chapter is my favorite because all the threads come together to make sense & reveal the suspense in this part of the book & it was pretty interesting. Ansh had a habit of reading 📚 5 pages everyday before bedtime & he didnot like reading the same genre consecutively. I think that's a great way to inculcate reading into your daily routine & also to keep it interesting. The story is a #mysterynovel , #romanticsuspense , a #lovestory & it also deals with #mentaldisorder #psychological issues & #multiplepersonalitydisorder Saying anything further would be a spoiler. Recommend it for beginner level #romantic suspense readers. . . #lieslooklikelove _____ About The Book

This gloomy psychological thriller is the perfect pick for this rainy season.
It made me feel as if I were in a dark, rainy forest myself. Without giving away any spoilers, it deftly portrays grief, greed, and mental health illnesses.
Ravi is both a hero and a villain. At the end of the day, he's just an ordinary guy (iykyk). Maya is a cunning woman and a loving sister. Ansh is no more, but he isn't who you think he was. Pihu has a lot going on. The lives of these four people take turns in a "cursed" villa.
Certain ideas are very well expressed, such as the analogy between fear and a disobedient genie, a stalker making you question your senility when you don't see anyone around but feel a presence, self-hatred over not being able to cry, instincts overruling reasoning, feelings being meant to be lived, begging for help to live happily, rightfully calling a cruel prank a joke, men using women for revenge, being an ordinary person, letting alcohol control you, small town gossip by crude men, and thanking God that your lover isn't married or has a girlfriend.
I loved the forest setting, car travel, natural disasters, Ravi's deadly encounter, and the fact about flying termites.
There are a few elements of romance as well, like gauging the mood of the rain by sipping a few raindrops along with your tea, watching horror movies on mute just to spend time with each other, and helping the other person's family just because.
The plot and the writing are awesome. The twists will shock you. Chapter 20, in particular, is exceptional. I appreciate the paragraph breaks and short chapters that make it easy to binge.
I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to thriller lovers.
P.S. At least the author is an actual scientist, haha! (You'll get this joke after you've read the book.)
I absolutely loved "Lies Look Like Love" by Bijaya Kumar Mishra! The small, rainy, forest town setting immediately drew me in, creating a haunting and atmospheric backdrop for the story. The protagonist, Maya, gripped my heart with her shattered emotions after losing her beloved husband, Ansh. Her struggle to protect the mysterious villa and her hidden secrets added a layer of intrigue that kept me eagerly turning the pages.
The introduction of Ravi, the enigmatic stranger, brought a new dynamic to the story. His presence seemed to rekindle love and hope in Maya's life, but the summary hints at a darker undercurrent, leaving me curious about his true motives and intentions. This added a psychological thriller element that kept me on the edge of my seat, unsure of whom to trust.
The story's promise of secrets, betrayal, love, and revenge truly excited me, and the mention of Maya's sisters and the strange rumors surrounding them added an additional layer of mystery. I found myself deeply invested in Maya's journey as she faces her stalker and questions her own sanity. The potential for unexpected twists and turns only heightened my interest.
The book's lucid language and well-crafted characters, as mentioned in the summary, reassured me that this would be a satisfying read. I appreciate the author's ability to immerse me in the characters' emotions and experiences, making me feel like a part of the story.
This Book has Secrets, Suspense, romance, mystery, selfish motives, which makes it a completely package. The plot of book is set in a small town surrounded by Deep Forests. The Story revolves around a mysterious Villa which is a topic of constant gossip around the whole Town.
This is the Story of Maya- a widow who lost her husband a few months back, Pihu- her sister and Ravi - a scientist who came to the town for research on medicinal plants. Maya and Ravi came across each other when Ravi came to villa searching for a place to rent for his stay. And Maya found his thoughts about rain similar to her husband Ansh. ✨ During his Stay in the outhouse of Villa Ravi and Maya come closer but still something about villa and pihu disturb Ravi and he is curious to find out that. But Maya advises him to keep himself away from the main building of Villa and Pihu.
The story has so many secrets and revelations one after the other that keeps you totally hooked to the book. Giving any Spoilers would be injustice to the book. You need to find it for yourself after reading the Book. At some points you might feel it to be a horror Story but wait till you reach the end. ✨ Every character in the book has its own Secrets, their own motives but the future has something else in store for them. For me it was a wholesome experience reading this beauty and i completed the book in two days. Writing is Lucid, not too many characters making it easy to understand the Story. The story's narration is amazing.
So definitely recommended if you r looking for some lite but suspenseful Novel.
Losing someone who has been close to us is considered to be the most difficult emotional pains a person has to endure in their entire course of life.
But at the same time, we can also see that there is a sort of solace in remembering what our partner meant to us and how their memories will always stay with us.
‘Lies Look Like Love’ by Bijaya Kumar Mishra is one such story about heartache and loss. It is about overcoming those thoughts and emotions that can make anyone feel lost, alone, and worthless.
While many may argue otherwise, it is quite evident that there is strength in letting go, and finding a reason to stay strong. It is by doing so that we can move on and learn how to live and love again.
After the death of her husband, Ansh, our main protagonist, Maya sort of stopped living. She was breathing and moving, but it felt like the part that made her alive had suddenly disappeared.
To overcome the loneliness, Maya decides to rent a part of her house to a family, but fate has other plans when it brings a bachelor, Ravi in her life.
At their first meeting, Maya notices a similarity between Ansh and Ravi, now what is the secret behind it and how they are connected to each other is the entire basis of the narration.
I liked the way author has dealt with not only giving a great storyline to our main characters, but there was also a build up for the supporting leads as well. Hence I am going to give this book FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The title of this book merely reveals the core of the story frame. With a limited circle of people, the author has brilliantly narrated the story. This book is all about the story of the 2 soulful people who tried to protect their personal lives without the knowledge of each other later the love unearths their darkness by welcoming new life.
The characters are strongly built. The character's mindful play against each other enthralled me. I am astonished whenever the story reveals a new twist and turn. Each chapter prevails with exotic apprehension.
The author has plopped his perspective on feelings, love, darkness, life and love with a blend of the situation, which I like most. The storyline has an unusual knot with the cunningness of the women. But later the author has expanded that as selfless love.
This book is a perfect page-turner embedded with ample twists to prove the protagonist's characteristics. The author never missed muffling the suspense chapter by chapter.
Language is moderate. The plot is intriguing. Overall, I recommend this book to all.
Lies Look Like Love is one of the novels whose elements are so unified and coherent - from the title, to the characters' name, characterization, complications and sequence of events. The depth of feeling, the brutal secrets of the past, twists and gut-wrenching turns are powerful statements that will send you reeling, repel your senses, then grab you by the heart and pull you in deeper.
Maya’s life at the hands of fate makes for an incredible journey through this breathtaking story filled with real characters in a real world where bad things do happen to the undeserving and innocent, but the good that comes later is beautiful!
It is a tale of agony, loss, rehabilitation, friendship and love of every kind. Strong characters, plausible tragedies, palpable heartaches makes this story more beautiful. Author Bijaya has the ability to draw you into the story and live in the moment as each scene unfolds. All in all, Lies Look Like Love is an appalling story about two people who found solace and healing when they're both resolutely resigned to a life of loneliness.
Maya loses her husband Ansh untimely and is shattered. The outhouse of her villas is rented by Ravi, a bachelor in his thirties. Intrigued by the strange rumors about Maya's villa and her sisters, Ravi gets closer to Maya and love blossoms in the villa again. However nothing is simple as that. Maya is being stalked by someone who makes her question her own sanity. Lives and relationships are at stake and lies look like love! Secrets are to keep and truth must be unveiled before it's too late!
The eerily intriguing cover and the alliteration in the title were compelling enough for me to pick this one up. It's a gripping tale with the elements of love, thrill and suspense. I loved the writing, it's simple and keeps the reader engaged. It's a page-turner that I enjoyed cover to cover. Finished it overnight, it gave me chills.
With vulnerable and well-written characters, It's rather a short read of just 220 pages packed with lots of twists and turns that's free on Kindle Unlimited!
Amidst the forest, lay a lonesome villa, a cursed villa, a villa that shall not be named. And there dwelled Maya and her sisters.
Okay, it's not as creepy as I am making it sound. But yes, the villa was indeed amidst a forest and known to be cursed and the owner was named Maya. Otherwise immersed in grief at the demise of her husband, Maya found a little relief when she met Ravi, her new tenant.
But with a history of their own and their own versions of lies, what will happen of Ravi and Maya and most importantly, Maya's sisters?
I have never complained about short thrillers as they are always a breather. And with a plot paved with twists, Lies look like love turned out to be an interesting read. But I shall say that it will appeal to you only if you are a novice in the genre. The plot becomes a little predictable at one point and the end seems like an easy way out. But nonetheless, the character development does keep you hooked!
This is an amazing story with a lot of mystery, suspense and secrets making it a page turner . Maya , the protagonist is seen as a lonely and depressed girl after sudden and unexpected death of her husband she stays with her sister in a villa at a very deserted place . She often thought that she was been stalking by someone but neglected and ignored it later thinking it's something which she is making by herself in her mind. Later in story other important character joins them and stay with them as tenant, Ravi slowly they started feeling for each other but they both were hiding some secret . But what and why? Will they have a future together? Was she really been stalked by someone ? Grab this wonderful book it's definitely worth your time. Language used is simple and easy to understand and narration done is very well. Must read 😍👍
A thrilling and exciting story of a mysterious play with love mingled in between. It was a story of a widow Maya mourning her husband's death.
Ravi is a tenant in a Maya's Villa who is a research fellow on herbs. Ravi gets close to them in no time. Pihu develops some bondage with him and tries to come out of her loneliness despite her psychiatric illness.
Lies necessarily are not the downside always, sometimes it does work it's best to revive fresh origins.
The story revolves around Maya and her twin sisters Pihu and Ruhi and Ravi. The mystery about the twin sisters and Maya's dead husband Ansh is a thrilling and exciting plot. That made the reader unable to put the book down till the end. The climax is terrific. It is a great portrayal of characters and the plot with more intrinsic details.

Divided into 22 chapters, Lies Look Like Love is a suspense-filled thriller whose unpredictability is its unique selling point. This dynamic story, full of twists and turns, catches the reader’s attention and keeps them on edge.
This brings a freshness to the storyline that has a dark aspect to it, which is reflective of the tension and conflict created in the plot to attain a high level of suspense, horror, and terror. The effect is one of shock and surprise that sends chills down the reader’s spine.
Set in an isolated villa in a deserted location, the eerie atmosphere, in which the entire plot is set, is the first prompt to ensure a serious text that revolves around the dark and the deadly.
The book begins with the central character Maya reminiscing the habits and behaviour of her dead husband Ansh who loved reading. When she is visited by a scientist and bachelor Ravi who is seeking a place to live as a tenant, she immediately agrees to allow him to reside in the villa, as she needs the money and some company too.
Lies Look Like Love by Bijaya Kumar Mishra Book Review To her surprise, Ravi has a similarity to her dead husband Ansh. They both can taste the rainwater collected into a cup of tea and tell the mood of the rain. Over time, this landlady and tenant’s relationship blossoms and they become good friends, though Maya has more affection for Ravi than he does for her. Secretly, she is in love with him.
However, the story is very different on Ravi’s part. The more he gets to know about Maya, the more he is creeped out by her and the fact that she is quite secretive about her personal details and has three sisters who barely come out of their room.
It is at this point that the plot gets intense, terrifying, and thoroughly gripping. The twists and turns are gradual. There is no sense of abrupt ending or jumping from one aspect to another. It is this smooth transitioning from one scene to another, and the beautiful manner in which issues are blended, that makes for a wholesome, though spine-chilling read.
All through, it is hard to tell who is the real culprit, who has wronged whom, and why things are the way they are.
Lies Look Like Love by Bijaya Kumar Mishra Book It may seem slightly confusing at some points but each chapter raises a lot of issues, concerns, and questions that the attentive reader is bound to make note of. Most chapters end with this note of suspense, thrill, and terror that is not meant for the faint-hearted. Yet, there is a lot more than what meets the eye.
It is this deceptiveness of themes, the characters, particularly Maya, and the issues that run through the plot, that becomes hard to overlook. As the protagonist, Maya initially appears to be a damsel in distress, a widow who has lost a lot, yet her secretive behaviour, and the creepiness of the people that she is associated with, add to the gothic atmosphere of the narrative.
As a foil character, Ravi’s initial openness turns sour as he realises that Maya is full of secrets that are dark and not easily decipherable. While this intrigues him to some extent, it creeps him out greatly. The other minor characters are given a good amount of space to develop while the dead character Ansh is allowed a lot of room in terms of being a major part of Maya’s memory and imagination.
The lucid writing style makes for an entertaining read. Lies Look Like Love will definitely be enjoyed by lovers of thrillers, suspense novels, contemporary gothic fiction, and fiction lovers in general.
It is always fun to read a book from a new author or publisher. It was time to read Bijaya Kumar Mishra’s Lies Look Like Love which is published by Invincible publication in around 222 pages. It is a short story which can be completed within a single sitting. I must tell you that not only because of its length but the way story is narrated keeping the suspense intact, you want to just keep turning the pages. I was surprised that I didn’t hear about Bijaya before picking this book as he deserves more accolades for the kind of storytelling prowess he has. The book’s title sounds like a tongue twister initially but after reading the story, I understood why it has been named so. The story justifies the name of the book very perfectly.
The story is about how a widower named Maya is living with her sisters in a big villa when one man named Ravi appears asking to stay there on rent. He is denied initially by her but then he is allowed to stay in the outhouse. Gradually, he starts getting close to Maya, her caretakers as well as her sisters who look almost similar. Suddenly, he realizes some unusual activities happening in the villa which makes him learn about many facts about this family. He is now confused if he should continue staying there because of his new blossomed love for Maya or leave it. At the same time, Maya is also hiding things from him but doesn’t want him to go away. This whole psycho-analysis part makes the story very interesting.
I liked how author was able to develop chemistry between both the main characters – Maya and Ravi within few chapters itself. The treatment of both these individuals is done very seamlessly which has helped this book get its purpose fulfilled. I liked how author was able to execute different transitions in their relationship as they went through whole ups and downs of being together – initial awkwardness, closeness, distrust, coming together, revelation of secret and lot more. Along with this, Bijaya also assures that Maya’s sisters are introduced at the right time and the kind of word author has done to ensure that their psychology of mind reaches us is commendable. Handling a topic which is still a taboo in our society has been dealt with maturity.
I liked how the chapters are cleverly planned where each of them holds you so firmly that you get excited about the next one. Author manages to keep twists and turns come around at the right time which doubles your excitement to know what happens next. Writing a thriller is not very easy and when there are certain secrets post revelation of which it becomes more difficult to keep the interest of the readers alive, Mishra has managed to keep his narration enough strong to not let the story go down.
Overall, this is a light thriller with deep characters. Author’s words will make you imagine the whole villa and every scene in your own way and make you feel that the whole thing is happening in front of you. I would give this book 4.25 stars out of 5. I am really excited to read more work from Bijaya now and already waiting to read his next.

It’s fast-paced and has a gripping plot line that will surely leave you wanting more from such an amazing writer. I loved every minute I spent reading it and I highly recommend everyone to read it as soon as possible. The book has been professionally edited and is free of any grammatical errors. It’s very well written and flows smoothly. The climax was well built up and I imagined many possibilities for what could happen. However, I felt that it fell flat in terms of how it actually played out. This is probably due to my own personal preferences for how things should have gone but when you read a book like Lies Look Like Love you are constantly waiting for something big to happen and when it doesn’t you feel disappointed. It’s not one of those books where you can figure out who did it early on; there are plenty of red herrings thrown in to keep you guessing. Maya lost her husband Ansh recently in a horrific accident and while she tried very hard to cope with her grief, she finds a stalker standing outside her window every night. There are already rumors rife in their small forest town that Maya’s villa is cursed and every family that lived earlier there had bad luck haunt them. None of the residents of the town ever visited the villa but gossiped of Maya and her sisters, who never stepped outside the villa.
Ravi, who is a scientist, arrived recently in this town to research on few rare herbs found in the forest and stayed in the forest rest house. As the rest house is surrounded by multiple wild creatures from the adjacent forest, he goes house hunting, only to be turned back for being a bachelor. Once Ravi gets accommodation in Maya’s outhouse, he encounters Maya’s sisters and their mysterious behavior. Who is the stalker, what secrets does Maya, her sisters and the villa hold within them and how does Ravi get entangled in them forms the rest of the story.
The story has the ideal backdrop for a thriller — a sleepy small town surrounded by a dense forest, a mysterious villa with even more mysterious characters, a new entrant to the town developing a soft spot for the beautiful woman he meets. The story starts by posing multiple questions to the reader as everything around Maya is a mystery. After every few pages, the author keeps revealing few of the secrets that keeps the first half of the story interesting.
However even with few elements held by the author without revelations till the climax, I felt the story did not live up to the expectations it setup at the beginning. While a reader beginning on thrillers and mysteries might enjoy it, if you are regular with these genres, the climax does not thrill as much, and leaves some loopholes. Also, the story could have been edited better to keep it crisper, especially in the second half where Ravi’s musings take over the narration, at times become hurdles to the pace.
The author keeps the number of characters to minimal, without unnecessary cluttering. Ravi and Maya both have grey areas which keeps them realistic and interesting till the end. The story is atmospheric with the author’s descriptions transporting the reader into the locales. Pick this one if you prefer cozy mysteries.
