Bobbie Faye #2

Girls Just Wanna Have Guns

Rate this book
Bobbie Faye Sumrall just landed in a mess of trouble. It started when she agreed to help her diva cousin, Francesca. Turns out Francesca’s mom, Marie, swiped a fortune in gems from Bobbie Faye’s uncle, who’d swiped them from someone else. Now there’s a hit out on Marie, and Bobbie Faye is racing to find her—and the jewels. Plenty of people would shoot Bobbie Faye for a stash of diamonds. Hell, some would pay for the privilege. But now Bobbie Faye has other distractions, Trevor, the drop-dead-sexy FBI agent who may or may not be the real deal; and Cam, her steamy (and steamed) detective ex-boyfriend who’d do anything to keep Bobbie Faye out of harm’s way…and get her back into his arms.

Toni McGee Causey

Toni McGee Causey is the author of the critically acclaimed and nationally bestselling “Bobbie Faye” novels—an action/caper series set in south Louisiana; the series was released in back-to-back publications, beginning with CHARMED AND DANGEROUS, GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE GUNS, and WHEN A MAN LOVES A WEAPON. She is also a contributor to the USA Today Bestselling anthology LOVE IS MURDER, as well as the KILLER YEAR and the DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO MISS NEW ORLEANS anthologies.

While pursuing an MFA in Screenwriting, Toni had scripts optioned by prominent studios and recently produced an indie film, LA-308, which now has offers of distribution pending. Toni began her career by writing non-fiction for local newspapers, edited Baton Rouge Magazine, and sold articles to places like Redbook and Mademoiselle. In her copious spare time, she practiced her Ninja skills, though she can’t prove it because no one ever saw her.

She and her husband, Carl, thrive in the French Quarter, where they’re not the craziest ones on the block. Sometimes, they’re not even second craziest. She and Carl have also owned and operated a civil construction company for over thirty years [hence, the crazy], with projects all over Louisiana, Mississippi, and south-eastern Texas. They are also working on a home/remodeling project in the Quarter. Her grown sons survived her (they might say ‘barely’ but they don’t get to write the bio, ha!), with one becoming a SWAT police officer and one becoming a Firefighter. [In other words, Toni rarely sleeps.] Meanwhile, she and Carl are absolutely frothing-at-the-mouth proud of the two g-kids and three step-ish-g-kids (it’s complicated, but it’s all good).

One day, when she’s grown up enough, she’s going to get another puppy. This may take a while.

4.5 stars-
It all started with a bank robbery, a dead jeweler, and a sniper. Sounds like a lot right ? No, not for Bobbie Faye that is a slow morning, easy breezy. I enjoy the heck out of her. This girl is like two tornados dancing during a hurricane. She get's shot at, hit, kidnapped *a lot*, accused of crimes, turned blue and she still get's up and kicks the butt that needs it. Can she handle weapons, heck yeah, she can throw a knife and shoot better then most. She has skills, stands by her family, loves a good chili dog, and a sense of humor. What's not to love about her ? She goes in my top ten women characters I enjoy following.
Let's talk men, yes, there is a triangle of love. One damaged semi lost love (Cam)and one fresh, new, untested love (Trevor). Both men are sexy, tall, macho, men of service who spend time measuring each other up but not at the cost of Bobbie Faye, she comes first to both of them. Nice to see in a book right ? Cam is a hard core follow the rules kind of guy, which cost him the girl.

Trevor is a break the rules, smash them, fix them to make them fit kind of guy. Both are such great guys it's hard to be on one team, but I lean towards Trevor. Why ? Cam lacked the communication gene when he needed it. That's all I got.

So the tale here has Bobbie Faye being accused of heinous crimes. Then she is kidnapped, told to find something, not to find something, to find something. it's a cluster of fun. Wait somebody is shooting at her, they want her dead. Trevor is watching from the shadows, undercover his part becomes very involved. He covertly sneaks in little touches, whispers and protects her. Cam, is on the side of the law, she look guilty, there is proof that she is. Meanwhile, things are burring, blowing up, ugly truths are being uncovered. Bobbie Faye learns how much her friends and family believe in her. She also faces a love that may be the one. Impossible unending action, intrigue, backstabbing, voodoo, steamy satisfying mattress dancing, hot hunky men, nasty baddies- it has it all.

Loved the title with the parenthesis and the crawfish thingie on it, I don't know why they felt the need to change them later on. This one had me laughing out loud within the first 40 some pages. Some of the exploits were so ridiculous, but hilarious nonetheless. It kind of got a bit complicated at the end, lots of different players running around, but still enjoyable. Though I did like the first book the best out of the three.

Another fantastic romp through the swamps! And the fields, and the State House. If you ever need a wild ride pick-me-up, go on a Bobbie Faye adventure. I do hope these stories continue!

Poor Bobbie Faye, she can never get a break! She's got even more people after her in this book than the last one. This time everyone wants her to find a huge stash of missing diamonds. She knows they want her to find them because as soon as she steps outside her work (where there's a gunfight going on) she's kidnapped and driven around the block as her family's threatened if she doesn't help. As soon as she's dropped off another group kidnaps her, does the exact same thing, then rinse and repeat as it happens again! She's also trying to figure out why she's appearing on a security tape shooting and killing a jeweler. We get to meet more of her family and the love triangle between her, Cam (ex-boyfriend with a lot of history) and Trevor (new boyfriend) develops a lot more. I really enjoyed finding out who was the mastermind behind the murder, I didn't suspect them at all. Can't wait to read the next book, this author's hard to put down once I start.

This books was simultaneously hilarious and thrilling. You can't predict what Bobbie Faye is going to get up to next, and I genuinely didn't figure out (and perhaps didn't care so much) about whodunit until the denouement. I was much more interested in what BF was going to do or say next. Having two hunky specimens of manhood doesn't hurt the plot either.

While most of the plot was too insane to be believable, it was still very enjoyable. Best of all were those little bits of humor thrown in that perhaps non-southerners might miss. (I can imagine my LSU alumn father's horror if I had gone to 'Bama!)

Even though I picked this book up without realizing it was part two in a series, I didn't need the first book to understand what was going on. However, after reading this book, I am definitely going to pick up the other books in the series. I hope they are equally funny.

Bobbie Faye Sumrall's cousin, Francesca has tasked Bobbie with finding diamonds that her mother stole from Bobbie's uncle. It quickly becomes evident that many people are after those diamonds and Bobbie Faye is right in the middle of the search. At the same time, evidence surfaces linking Bobbie Faye to a murder, so she not only finds herself searching for the diamonds but also trying to prove her innocence. Meanwhile, former boyfriend, Cam is working behind the scenes trying to help, and current boyfriend, Trevor is using his undercover assignment to secretly protect Bobbie Faye from the many people who seem to be trying to kill her.

Girls Just Wanna Have Guns is another wild ride with Bobbie Faye. The story is over-the-top ridiculous, which just adds to the humor and fun. Text messages inhabit several pages that help keep the reader on track, but it is the case notes at the beginning of some of the chapters with information written in the margins that provide some of the funniest moments in this book. While there are multiple character perspectives, Bobbie Faye's and Cam's are the most prevalent, and Trevor's is still mostly unexplored. Overall, Girls Just Wanna Have Guns is extremely entertaining, leaving this reader excited to read the third and final book of the series. 4 1/2 stars

Another fun read that is pure entertainment. I forgot to mention the main things that bothered me in the previous book and it was amplified in this book. There are a lot of bad guys in this book. 3 different sets to be exact with more than a couple people in each group and sometimes it felt a little choppy when switching to another character's POV. I would be so engrossed in Bobby Faye and Trevor's adventures and then bam, next paragraph starts off with another character. And the character would be introduced by name before giving us the description of who he is (and then cluing us in on which group of bad guys he belonged to).

The other thing that threw me off in the previous book was the character of Ce Ce and her whole voodoo/juju magic stuff. However, while in book one I felt like her character's actions were more a distraction to my enjoyment of the book, in this book, I found her character enjoyable because of the scenes towards the end and how she helped Bobbie Faye.

Back to the good stuff, this book definitely follows in the 1st's footsteps when it comes to over-the-top-ness but again, I enjoyed practically every minute of it. The heat turns up between Bobbie Faye and Trevor and the tension between those two and Cam also goes full-blast. I have to say I feel sorry for Cam. He seems like such a good guy and he's so torn up over Bobbie Faye and Trevor's growing relationship. With that said, I'm still Team Trevor all the way :)

I have to admit, I didn't really like the first book that much. It had so many things going on that I had to put it down every 20 mins or so to catch my breath and think about what just happened. I also dislike books with multiple POVs, so that was a bummer. Another thing I can't stand was calling her Bobbie Faye. You'd think that the people around her would shorten it SOMEHOW (points to Nina for calling her "B"), but nooooooo. It's Bobbie Faye this, Bobbie Faye that and her name alone added 10% to the book.

The second book was even worse as it had about 277489321 POVs and I lost track of who was who after about 5 chapters. HOWEVER, we got to crawl into Trevor's head and he was so cute about Bobbie Faye, it made the whole thing a lot better.

But then it went downhill again. They pretty much agreed to marry by the end, and let me remind you that they only spent 3 days (THREE DAYS) together in their entire life so that was so far fetched, even the massive romantic in me looked confused. Also, after the 463298 thing exploded, I was rolling my eyes so hard I though I would damage my optic nerve.

I'd say this book was ok but the only reason I'll read the third one is because I liked the way Trevor and Bobbie Faye interacted.

While I gave the last book 4 stars, this time it's 3. Why? For starters, the case was just ... A little too far-fetched for my taste. And while it still had its funny moments, it just wasn't as hilarious as the last one.
Then - waaaay too many POV overall and coming way too quick.
And last - well, this time we did get also a POV from Trevor. But not that many scenes - and, like I mentioned in my review of the first book, there we didn't have one. And here too it were by far not enough to sway me from my conviction that she should end up with Cam.
Who gets the most POV-scenes right after Bobbie. But I'd still be very surprised to see them to end up together. Sadly. So, I hate that. I want her to end up with Cam and when that doesn't happen ... Yeah well, I'm not going to be happy. Especially as I still don't get why the author is doing it like that. If she wants to marry her off to Trevor, then why oh why give us much more Cam than Trevor?

This was a book I stumbled across at the library and, to be honest, I chose it because of the title. What an eye catching title!

I realized once reading it that it was second in a series. I usually like reading a series at the first book, so perhaps that is why I felt a little distant when reading this. I couldn't fully connect with the characters. It was an enjoyable read, I especially loved the plot and how it kept kicking up a notch, but it wasn't one of those must-reads for me where I was especially in love with the characters.

Hence, the 3 stars.

The plots a lot of fun, though. I don't know that I've read a book that so successfully turns up the intensity level and heat so well plot wise. It would make a great action movie!

J'ai adoré, c'est la suite de "la très très mauvaise journée de Bobbie Faye". Il y a toujours autant d'humour et l'intrigue est originale. C'est d'avantage de la chick lit que du suspens, mais je le recommande.

When I picked this book, I wish I had noticed it was #2 in the series because I probably would’ve read the first one first. It felt like I walked into the middle of a story AND everyone else knew who all the characters were, so the “narrator” had to fill me in super quickly so that the rest of the audience didn’t lose interest. This was not helpful at all and a little jarring.
So who is Bobbie Faye Sumerall? The female Jack Reacher, in my book. Definitely not an original, and not an imitation either, but a copy of a copy.
There were several aspects of the book I didn’t care for. Namely, the never ending introduction of a new character. By the end, there’s Bobbie Faye, her BFF, 2 boyfriends, plenty of family members, bad guys, town folk, and way too many government agencies’ employees. I don’t know what all these people have to do with the elusive diamonds at the heart of the story, but somehow the plot moved along.
Which brings me to point #2 … the nonstop action. Remember that scene from that one Fast & Furious where the plane taxied down the runway for about 20 minutes? That’s what this reminds me of.
Despite the drawbacks, I enjoyed the overall story. Bobbie Faye is generally likable and her theme song should be Danger Zone. I doubt I’ll read more of the series, but I can envision myself someday Googling the things I found most compelling: who IS Nina, and who does Bobbie Faye choose? (If she chooses herself because she eventually comes to realize **something profound **, I’m going to eye roll so hard, it will shake the world.)

The story in book 2 flows so much better than in book 1 and I loved the characters even more. You could probably start the series at book 2 but it’s definitely worth getting through book 1 for the background alone. If you like the Stephanie Plum series I would say this one will be a winner for you too.

This book features Bobbie Faye, who is basically a Southern Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich's bail bondsman). She's a woman who gets herself into situations where a lot of things explode and many people shoot at her. Also just like Stephanie Plum, she's caught between two men. I liked the snappy dialogue, but it just went on too long.

I enjoyed this book and all the characters in it. I have to admit I do think Bobby Faye, the main character, is a bit over the top but, maybe that is just what the author intended. It is a fun read - lots of people who keep popping out of the woodwork - and very good humor.

KINDA, SORTA, NOT EXACTLY - BOBBIE AND TREVOR SERIES #2 - GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE GUNS

Praise for Bobbie Faye's Very (very, very, very) Bad Day

“Causey doesn't miss a beat in this wonderful, wacky celebration of Southern eccentricity.”--Publisher’s Weekly, starred review

“It's about time women had an Amazon to look up to… Bobbie Faye is a hurricane-force heroine who makes this novel the perfect adventure yarn.”-- The Tampa Tribune

“If you like Janet Evanovich, if you're looking for a lot of unlikely action (when is the last time someone you know escaped a burning boat by lassoing an oil rig?), or if you're simply having a bad day, go out and find Bobbie Faye. She's an outrageous hoot.”--The New Orleans Times-Picayune

"Bobbie Faye, Southern, eloquent, kick-ass, highly accomplished and just plain nuts, is a magnet for the most colorful collection of riff-raff and the most sexually compelling males south of Minneapolis. Throw in an unlikely MacGuffin and you've got a very, (very, very, very) entertaining book."--Harley Jane Kozak, Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity award-winning author of Dating Dead Men

It had been a whole freaking month since Bobbie Faye Sumrall had blown up anything or been shot at, and that was almost a new record. Then her diva cousin Francesca waltzed up to where she manned the gun counter in Ce Ce's Cajun Outfitter and Feng Shui Emporium and everything just went to hell. Fast.

Francesca's mom has disappeared with exceptionally valuable diamonds swiped from Francesca's dad (difficult marriage) so of course Francesca broadcast to every insane psycho that Bobbie Faye could recover the ersatz family jewels.

Accused of one man’s murder, Bobbie Faye’s on the run as an unintentional Pied Piper to a rabid band of thieves. She has to find the diamonds, figure out the motives of the dead sexy FBI agent who's pressing her for more than just the jewels, all while racing to side-step her steamy (and steamed) detective ex-boyfriend before the deadline arrives and the diamonds disappear.

Bobbie Faye Sumrall is back in fighting form in this second installment of crazy, wacky adventure through Cajun country.

Gird your loins, find a comfy chair and grab your favorite drink before you begin because this book will suck you in like a tornado once it gets going. Some fans of the first Bobby Faye adventure bemoaned the time Causey took to fill in the romantic back story on the Cam-BF storyline while others knocked the slightly slower pace created by fleshing out the competing characters working against the tour de force heroine, I felt like it was mostly time well spent giving me a breather between bouts of laughter. This sequel has steamier romance, similar absurd moments of catastrophe (to the first), & more eccentric supporting characters. If your a Stephanie Plum fan who likes the smaller supporting cast and a focused perspective of the unfolding story through the eyes of your heroine, stick to the first BF adventure and read no further. On the other hand if you are a fantasy reader who enjoys a diverse cast of characters this may be a good crossover read (especially for fans of Jennifer Rardin, Ilona Andrews, or even Darynda Jones). I found this book more enjoyable than the first due to the increased cast since I never knew who would take a central role creating new snafus. All in all this is a book I keep on my shelf for beach reading or a rainy day when I want lots of laughter with a dash of romance.

Bobbie Faye Sumrall really does have the worst luck. Too bad for her, lots of fun for us the reader. After the bad day she had in the first book, you'd really wonder what else could happen. But as we come to learn, bad days, which generally include gunfire, car chases, explosions and other mayhem, are a common occurrence for Bobbie Faye, and this book is no exception.

This time, Bobbie Faye's bad day starts with a bad dream. Then, while at work, her cousin arrives to ask her help only to have a sniper start taking shots on everyone. It goes downhill from there. Kidnapping, more snipers, international bad guys, stolen diamonds, blown up bridges....the fun goes on and on. Along for the ride again is super sexy FBI man Trevor. Building on the strong sexual chemistry in the first book, this time round things positively ignite. Of course, since this is Bobbie Faye we're talking about, things can't be easy and so ex-boyfriend, full-time cop, Cam, is also once again chasing her heels. And this time, he doesn't know if he'll be able to help her or hurt her when evidence begins to mount that she is the cold-blooded killer of a local jeweler.

A fast-paced, take no prisoners romp, you will be chuckling along from disaster to disaster. Girls Just Wanna have Guns is a great addition to the series. I'm looking forward to the next installment, When a Man Loves a Weapon.
