Dum needs to free Matty from his chains. When Dee and Dum go to break Matty Beckinsale out of the priest’s coven, they don’t expect him to be Dum’s fated mate. But Matty is scared and hurt and suspicious, so Dum probably shouldn’t mention that straight away.
They decide to take Matty home first, then Dum can start to woo his mate properly. If only Matty didn’t have other ideas…
Matty has done things his brother can never know about. The priest has always used Matty’s power because he knows Matty would do anything to stop Ant finding out what he’s done. When two dragon shifters come to rescue him, Matty takes his chance to put things right, once and for all.
A fun, adventure romance between a witch who has some wrongs to right and the dragon shifter who would just love to help him with that.
The fifth book in the DRAGON’S MATE series, Breaking Free can be read as a standalone. It does feature some crossover characters, though, so why not enjoy the whole series?
This book is everything I love about fantasy, romance, shifters, fated mates and found families. Featuring a powerful witch, two brothers who want to protect each other, a manic dragon shifter, magic, nicknames, lots of feels and an HEA.

You can expect a big helping of Body Positivity from Hope’s stories. Every body is beautiful and Hope loves writing about men who learn that they are sexy and worthy… and find just the right person to prove it to them.
When writing alpha/omega gay romance, she likes to play with stereotypes and gender expectations. She loves a soft-hearted alpha and a bossy omega.
In her fantasy romances, Hope can’t help but write about shifters, magic, fated mates and found families. Her stories have lots of heat and lots of heart.

While I think Matty and Dum make for a cute couple and their story was nice, I kind of wish we got more dragon/dragon couples and explored more of the world and clans Hope already created. No complaints on the book itself, but I kind of wish that from the series
Another winner in my book. I love the twist and I love the fact that there are active and positive females along with f/f ; m/m; f/nb; represented in these stories.
There is a mix of timeline in this book, with the story of Matty starting off e tangled with that of his brother's and the first interaction with dragons. Once everything happens there and Dee and Dum get sent out to rescue Matty this book takes on it's own direction as we learn what happens over there.
Matty may have magic unlike his big brother but that has seemed more of a curse than a blessing. He is powerful, but not powerful enough to get himself and his brother away from their abusive coven. Matty finds himself stuck, helping the Priest at the coven to stay powerful by hurting others. Matty is trying to stop what is happening but with his brother constantly being threatened he knows he'll give in. When dragons come to help him Matty is both suspicious and afraid, because the power they hold is everything the Priest has ever wanted.
Dum hasn't much ever though about a mate. He found himself talented at doing things no one liked to do to protect the clan, and he found that his cousin Dee was the same. The two of them enjoy doing what needs to be done to protect their clan and help out Nana, and so times even scare their clan mates just a tiny bit. But when Dum meets Matty and realizes he has a mate things shift quite a bit and he realizes just how much he wants to help his mate, protect him, and bring him into the clan.
There is some concern about the mating between Matty and Dum. After all, Matty is young and seemingly innocent, while Dum delights in dispatching threats to his clan. Learning about Matty from his own perspective shows that this young man has been dealt a rough hand and from that has a core of steel and a temperament that both supports and steadies his more impulsive mate. There is benefit to each man in this relationship and they build a connection quickly.
Another enjoyable story with a bit of fire and revenge after the events of that last book.

One of my favorite from the series. I fell in love with Dum and Dee (but particularly with Dum) and I think that Matty is great for him, with all his complexities and fears and his traumatic past but still being a sweetheart underneath.
I didn’t like the constant implication of Dum being “weird” or “crazy” but I did like the rest and I think that the book has a very good balance between the romantic plot and the more adventure plot of fighting the Priest.
I enjoyed the book and getting to see the MCs connect and get to know each other. Being fated mates doesn't mean you don't have to work at the relationship and reading the MCs inner dialogue about each other added an important layer to the storyline that I enjoy. I liked getting to know Dee and Dum better.
Dum and Matty are the best! I love them. This book kept me up all night. I couldn't put it down. It's so good! I love the anti heroes falling in love and learning to trust each other. And I love the found family tropes. This book is amazing! ❤️ I love the markings between Dee and her mate too. That was beautiful. This is so well written.
