Sheltered Connections #2

Finding the Right Forever

Rate this book
One has no time for love.
The other is desperately seeking acceptance.
Only together can their hearts be made whole.

Owen

For the last seven years, I've been married to my job because it's easier than dealing with the angst that comes with relationships. I was only looking to grow my business, now I'm stuck dealing with a baker whose sunshine and lollipop outlook proves to be a monumental pain in my butt. Friends say I need to learn to have fun, and Parker could be the one to teach me. The more time I spend with him, the more I feel they may be right. Now, I want forever, but I don’t know how to ask for it.

Parker

I was only looking for a place to start my career as a baker. Somehow, I ended up with a boss who is as hot as he is grumpy. I should be focusing on my baking, and build security based on my own success. Instead, Owen is fast becoming my sole focus. My longing for acceptance, to heal the scars from an abusive past, have led me to an impossible choice. Do I pursue my dream job... or dream man?

Finding the Right Forever is the second book in the Sheltered Connections Series. This book involves themes of hurt/comfort, grumpy/sunshine, and a spandex elf suit. Laugh-out-loud humor, spur of the moment kitchen sex and two men too stubborn to see what's in front of them make up this 72k word story. Ridiculously horrible singing is included.

This is the first book I have read by this author and it definitely won’t be my last. This was a book with an incredibly solid start that honestly just kept getting better for me as I continued to read! It was such a sweet, fun story but also had some emotional aspects to it as well that had me hurting for the characters. I loved that the situations they dealt with and had to work through were very realistic and it wasn’t too easy for them to get through it.

Parker was such a fun character that seems always happy and confident on the outside but once you get to know him you realize how hurt he is on the inside and that he just wants someone to choose him! Owen was grumpy for sure at the beginning but seeing him open up more to Parker and really just be the person Parker needed was wonderful!

I’m super happy with the ending they had and I love that they found a way to have everything they wanted! There are characters from book 1 in this story but I didn’t feel lost or anything so this can be read as a standalone but I would like to go back and read book 1 as well. I absolutely recommend this book if you looking for a boss/employee, grumpy/sunshine romance!

Owen and Parker ❤️

I am loving this series! I adored Owen and Parker in this classic grumpy meets sunshine romance ❤️ it was so super swoony, Owen was such a gloomy and grumpy person coasting through life until he finally opened his eyes to notice his sunshine in a bottle Baker, Parker......poor Parker, always plastering a smile on his face even though he's got plenty of baggage and never feels good enough....I loved that Owen from the start of their relationship made him feel worthy and special. This book was so heartwarming and sweet, it was also so freaking funny in parts...it had me giggling so hard. I cannot wait for Jacob's book!! If your looking for a sweet, sexy and funny story this ones for you, I highly recommend.

This is a classic grumpy/sunshine slow burn. The characters are enjoyable and likable. It’s an easy lighthearted read.

A grumpy cafe owner hires an over-the-top happy baker who forces him to question his own happiness or if he’s just going through the motions and using his cafe as a crutch to hide from past pain. As time passes and Owen learns more about Parker's past, he starts to see him in a new light and starts to feel pesky feelings. Gasp!

In the end, they both need to learn to ask for what they want and trust that they are worth loving.

Absolutely fantastic this book, the first I read of this writer.
I will now read the previous books to settle in with these people
I loved the two characters especially Parker, a confectioner who hides his anguish in the joy that unnerves Owen, the boss. Until suddenly Owen begins to see Parker with other eyes, but parker's professional dream can throw it all away
The book is wonderful and a hymn to love and achievement
Can I give more stars?

4.75 stars, rounded up.

This is a true opposites attract story. Parker's easygoing, fun. Owen's a grumpy butt who never smiles. Parker's been in love with Owen since he started working for him. Owen just wishes Parker would stop it with the singing and crazy costumes. ;)

But of course they come together. It starts out as a friendship of sorts but that quickly changes to more. Unfortunately, there's something hanging over their heads that may or may not tear them apart before they even really get started.

I went back and forth on what my rating for this book would be. I was sitting at a solid 4 stars. That changed toward the end when I got to see Owen’s soft and sweet side. It’s been a while since a book got me all misty-eyed like I did reading this one. This went on for several pages. He was such a grump early on. Seeing his emotional side turned me into a big baby. He was so head over heels in love with Parker, but he didn’t want to hold him back. So he didn’t. He’d never want to be the cause of Parker not following his dreams.

A really good book, and edited SO much better than the first one. It was also nice seeing Dom and Micha again.

This was not exactly what I expected. It’s Christmas, and I don’t usually read holiday books out of season. Maybe there should be mentioned in the blurb?

But I love books with a grumpy/sunshine trope tho. This on has a lot of that. 😄 The characters are really lovely, even grumpy Owen who’s only interest in life is he’s bakery, so when he hires Parker as he’s new baker, Owen gets annoyed at Parker’s positive look on life, he’s loud Christmas music and swaying hips in the kitchen. I really loved that part of Parker, the way he still found happiness and joy every day in spite of his sad backstory. (I just want to put him in my pocket to keep him safe. 😍)

Off corse the two men find their way in to each other’s beds eventually. 😍 And Owen gradually starts to see and experience the fun in life again.

This is the second book in a series, and there are some good side characters from the first book in this one. I given the book 3 stars, but I wold have given it a half extra if I could. 😄 because of the very satisfying HEA!

I might reread this again, when Christmas-22 comes along! ❤️

Finding the Right Forever is a fabulous romance. It's the second book in the Sheltered Connections series by RM Neill and is easily read as a standalone.

These are two men who desperately need each other. But they are men who meet at a time when forever isn't in the cards. Dreams are in their way.

Owen helps Parker come to life and find the joy in living. Meanwhile, Parker helps Owen find someone who loves him and supports him.

I love this story. It's sweet, hot, and tender. It's a great hurt/comfort read with the most wonderful cat ever.

Finding the Right Forever is a great romance. I highly recommend this RM Neill book when you're in the mood for a nice second chance relationship.

Families don’t seem to want me. Why would a man want to share his life with me? Parker is sweet, funny, and tried to love himself even though he comes with some serious baggage.

“Last chance to change your mind before I kiss you.” Enter Owen. He’s so grumpy, I love how much Parker’s singing and fun drives him insane. And in the end its what he needs to have his day complete.

“I even want to hear him singing in my kitchen.”
“You are enough.”

This was not as steamy as some of the others I have read, but it had all the feels. I loved them. I love the way this rainbow of sunshine and fun comes into the life of a man stuck in his routine, and makes him see how much fun life is with someone. Even though it takes Owen for Parker to see that he is worthy of that too.

Nothing brings out love more than an annoying sweet guy! Owen is definitely the grumpiest of grumps! He buried himself away from all hurting by just working. That is all about to change when his new baker Parker arrives! Parker has his own past as well, but he projects a sunny happy personality that drives Owen crazy!! We know where that is going to lead! Two damaged souls connecting in a sweet and fun slow burn. All of the characters were so likeable, so it was pretty angst free as well! I received an ARC and I laughed and felt warm and happy for these two!

So many things to love about this story of Owen and Parker. First, I love that both come together over trying to establish a bakery within a coffee shop (always a favorite setting) and we get to see some of how that works, then we have workaholic Owen who has grumpily given up on relationships being charmed by Parker who has his own scars but hasn’t let them close him off from others. These two go together like a great cup of coffee that’s just a bit bitter and a warm, soft comforting croissant.

First book of R. M. Neill I have read. The story is cute with an adorable M.C., Parker, and a grumpy boss, Owen. I felt like it jumped into the middle of the story, perhaps their was a previous book, but I needed more background on Owen, his sexuality and why he was closed off emotionally. Parker seemed normally full of sunshine but sank into depression out of nowhere. I did enjoy they were both supportive of each other and open about their feelings once they interacted, except neither one could be honest about being in love. With a little more background and a more gradual versus insta love, I think this would be an excellent book. I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.

Dnf at some point !!

I lost 3 or 4 hours of my life !!! 😠😡

This is a trope I definitely don’t like, I don’t read it anymore and I haven’t for a whiiiiiiile and I really hate stupid miscommunication !!! “ it’s just for fun and sex, he doesn’t want more I can’t tell him I love him ” from both sides of course!!
And yeah H24 sex but mostly fade to black which is a very good thing.
Reviews are so misleading, I should’ve asked for more spoilers before I jump into it.
Fucking annoying !!!!

A cute romance, about two chalk and cheese guys, who are made for one another. Unfortunately, it takes a little while for Owen to suss this out, causing some angst in his developing relationship with Parker. I liked Parker's sunny personality, and enjoyed his positive outlook. An uplifting story, with a lovely ending. 3 and a half stars.

One is sunshine the other is storm clouds. Owen and Parker are the true opposites attract love story. But I think Owen is in some need of some sunshine. Good thing his baker is a ray of sunshine. Their love story is sweet and fun and you can’t help but want a happy ending for these two men. Loved it

A decent read but I struggled a bit with this one. I felt like I missed some of the backstory (maybe because I didn't read this author before) so I struggled feeling a connection with these characters. It was a well written book with a good story I just felt a bit disconnected, but that's a me problem.

This was a nice story and I liked the premise. Parker is so sweet but has really had bad luck and can't see himself as lovable. Owen has isolated himself and kept himself busy since opening his shop. There were a few things with the author's writing that threw me off fully enjoying the book more.

I love the Grumpy/Sunshine trope and R.M. just seems to know how to write books that call to me! This is my second book by this author and both have been a smash hit. Owen and Parker's story was hilarious, swoonworthy, and sweet with a side of steam. I freaking adore Parker and his sunshine attitude. I legit wish he was my bestie. I can't wait for R.M. 's next book.

Parker is a singing, butt wriggling, talented pastry chef, with dreams. But you know what they say about the overly happy? They’re usually hiding something sad. Owen is a grump who’s forgotten how to laugh. Does one have the attributes the other needs to be happy?
Finding The Right Forever is the second in the Sheltered Connections Series. Like book one, it, too, is told in the first person. It is also a tale where I felt unsure what to say in my review. The reason is, on the one hand, the story is a huge heart-warming, wholesome journey. On the other, it is so similar to book one in its formula that nothing was a surprise. I feel like it’s the curse of the sequel as it will always be closely compared to the original.
Parker and Owen are adorable. The boys and the extended cast are shining examples of what is good in this world. The backdrop of their journey automatically pulls at the heartstrings – an LGBTQ shelter, a pet shelter, a rescued, scene-stealer of a cat called Cheddar, Christmas, and one of the main protagonists has a poor dating history and low self-esteem.
When Parker gets a job at The Screaming Bean, he bakes while he sings badly and wiggles his butt. These elements begin as an annoyance to Owen. However, as Owen gets to know Parker, his view changes, and they begin a journey to their HEA. In the pursuit of getting Owen to smile, as cute as some of Parker’s kitchen antics are, my RL hospitality day job calls commercial kitchen regulations into serious question. In many countries, his antics would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Buuuut, this is fiction, and for Parker to act differently would partially remove several huggable moments.
There are some crossover characters from book one, but the story can be read as a standalone. And, if I were reading this story without having read its predecessor, I might be marking it higher, as I wouldn’t be getting that Deja-vu sensation. I feel awful for saying this, but because I had a good idea of what was to come, and that this story is low angst, I struggled to stay interested. I felt bad for Owen and Parker because they deserved good things to happen and for their story to be heard. Owen’s realization of his feelings and his personal journey was delightful.
For me, as loveable as Parker and Owen are, and some of the settings they experienced - charming. Finding The Right Forever didn’t quite flow as seamlessly as book one. Also, there is a strong Christmas theme, and in March my heart isn’t as openly committed to the season as it would have been in December.
But, looking at the story from another perspective – Finding The Right Forever is two men wrapped in a duvet of a story – one gets in cold, in need of warming up, and the other wriggles a lot, aching for strong arms to sink into. So, if you’re in need of a hug, or want to read a story about good people, finding their HEA, then this belongs on your shelf.

I want to give this story ten glowing stars. I laughed, I got teary (because I do not cry), I had the roller coaster of emotions. And I mean that roller coaster was 1oo mph laughed so hard I couldn't breathe cruising. But even the "I just want to hug you so hard" hurting moments were just as incredible. Since I'm writing this before the book is out I'm going to keep this spoiler-free. I hate spoilers. I will say again I laughed with this story - a lot! Parker is one in a million and I'm so grateful to know I have a friend like him. Even though they don't always show their Parker side. The writing is creative. The wordplay is phenomenal. The heartfelt moments are just that. And when Parker's eyes were rolling during those steamy scenes (because trust me, they are) mine were laser-focused on my kindle. I swear to god it could have caught combusted. The kitchen has never been so HOT!! Phew... I'm Blanche gif (Golden Girls) fanning myself just thinking about it. Moving on....

The story is a must-read. RM wrote about Logan and Austin and I thought she outdid herself. Then she wrote the first one to this series, Twice in a Lifetime with Dominic and Misha, and I thought she couldn't do better. Hands down she proved me wrong again! The girl can write and I cannot wait to see what she has going with the one character I've been dying to have a story for since she first wrote about him as a side character. I'm excited to continue seeing Parker and Owen in future stories (eyebrow raised RM hint, hint) but I'm ecstatic to see where Jacob is going and what she has planned for him next because if she comes close to what she did with Owen and Parker she's going to blow it out of the water.

4-4.5 stars

I read the first in this series a while back, and I remembered really liking it. If I'd had time, I would have re-read before I started this but that wasn't to be. In the end it didn't really matter as I remembered most of it anyway, that's always a good sign when a book stays with me.

I really enjoyed this too. I like the world the author has created here, the town and its' inhabitants. We did meet both Owen and Parker briefly in the first book but of course only really get to know them here. Grumpy/Sunshine is one of my favourite tropes, and Parker is sunniest of the sunshine. I loved his initial interactions with Owen, trying to get him to loosen up and smile, and Owen's attempts at resisting but you could just tell he liked it and was trying not to.

I will admit to swooning a little when Owen threw the jerk ex out of the shop, and loved the slight panic he had when finding out he had to be Santa. The slow burn of these two coming together was wonderful, the little touches are what made this story so good. I liked that Parker was the initiator of the relationship, but Owen was all in almost right away, very little angst. However no story is complete without a little bump in the road. I will admit to feeling more than a little sad on Cheddar's behalf when Parker went away - I love cats and hated seeing him (and Owen of course) so sad.

Partly why I read romance is because I'm a sucker for a happy ending, I don't mind really what characters go through as I know it'll come good in the end. I loved this book, and I love this series and I look forward to Jake's story next.

I received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest review.

This is the second book in the Sheltered Connections Series. I was able to fully enjoy it without having first read book 1. This is the story of Owen and Parker. Owen is a coffee shop owner who is thinking of adding baked goods to help his business grow. He is a loyal and true friend but most people have no idea. He projects this grumpy attitude and outlook. He has been burnt out by relationship angst and is solely concentrating on his business. He has forgotten how to have fun and enjoy life. Parker is a baker. He has just finished cooking school and is focused on opening up his own wedding cake business one day. Parker has had a hard life. His way of dealing with it is to project a happy attitude. He believes that what you send out to the universe comes back to you. He has had enough hardship so he focused on the positive. The first day of work. Parker's happiness and Owens grumpiness meet head on. You will start laughing at this point in the book and it won't stop. Owen accidentally commits for something that he needs Parker's help with. Slowly both men learn about the other. Parker slowly removes the grumpy off Owen. They both need confidence in their lives. Perhaps with each other? This is their story. It is very well written and easy to read. I read it in one sitting. There are up and downs on their journey and you will enjoy each step along the way. I loved this book!

I loved this book! I am a fan of grumpy sunshine love stories and this one is exceptional. Parker is the pastry chef in Owen’s cafe and approaches his work with a sunshiny optimism which his employer does not enjoy. Parker is a beautifully realized character, his sunshine is a result of a painful childhood. He is resolute in his positive outlook and I think beautifully brave in his determination to not let his past shape his future. Owen is also and interesting take on a grumpy MC, his past is not tragic but he has lost himself in his dedication to making a success of his coffee shop. I loved how determined Parker in his personal mission to make his grumpy boss smile. Such a simple thing, but really the foundation of their love story. These are characters who have a lot of kindness and depth which really drew me into their story and made me very invested in their happy ending. The author is able to do something remarkable with this book, which is to achieve real depth of emotion, characters who feel real, charming funny dialogue and chemistry that is both romantic and combustible. Like the first book, a real highlight for me is the lovely friendship between Owen and Dominic - which is the heart of both books. It’s a truly beautiful and uplifting love story, a must read. Loved it❤️

Owen is a grumpy coffee shop owner who has no for anything other than his business.
Parker is an absolute ray of sunshine and Owen's new employee.
Parker has had a rough life but he is so sweet and kind and just doesn't let life get him down.
Owen is constantly annoyed by his over the top attitude until he actually gets to know him.
As they first begin a tentative friendship it slowly evolves into so much more.
Parker eventually breaks through Owen's tough exterior to reveal a truly wonderful caring man.
Parker has never had anyone to truly care for him and it's a heady thing.
Parker has had a goal for quite a while and when it's realized, both men are struggling with the consequences of that decision and things left unsaid.
Parker's lack of confidence and Owen's need to not be a deterrent to Parker's dream leads to a small separation that also has a profound effect on Parker's cat Cheddar.
While apart they both come to the realization that they never took the time to actually discuss what they each wanted and quickly resolve the situation.
Parker realized his dream had changed to include Owen and Owen was already working to help Parker have his new dream.
Owen never stood a chance against Parker's sunshine and I absolutely loved how protective Owen was of Parker.
This was a light hearted story full of laughter, found family and some light angst.

Parker is jumping for joy when he lands his first job as a baker at the coffee shop, The Screaming Bean. He's realizing a life long dream. Beneath all that happy, his warm smile and gregarious personality hides some serious insecurity and self doubt.
Owen is proud of what he's built at the Screaming Bean. He's hired Parker in his efforts to take the coffee shop to the next level. But he doesn't share himself. His dour attitude and grim visage keep most people away. Only his best friend Dominic knows the real Owen - until Parker.
Parker is determined to bring some light and fun into Owen's life. Try as he might, Owen is unable to resist Parker's efforts and eventually gives in to Parker's sunny attitude. When Parker is offered a special opportunity, will Owen be able to stand up and take what he wants, or will he he do what he thinks is best for Parker and give up the best thing that's ever happened to him.
I loved the combination of Parker and Owen from the first. How could you not love a guy like Parker who shows a lust for life and fun. He doesn't let Owen's attitude get him down, but does all he can to pull Owen into the light. I loved this opposites attract story and celebrated the first time Owen let out a smile a Parker's antics. this is the story of two men who deal with their feelings in such different ways, but together they seek to open themselves and find what matters most. I can't wait the read the next story in the series.

Oh my loves! This story had me in my feels from the get go. I am a sunshine/grump lover! Parker is my sunshine smile boy even though his past is nothing short of sadness. Owen is a grumptastic boss of a man that doesn’t know how to have fun now that his baby The Screaming Bean is a working business and not just his dream anymore. The clash when they start working together every day is perfect!! Owen just doesn’t know how to deal with the sunshiny goodness that is Parker. The singing, dancing, bee bopping goodness that is Parker. Swoon!! When he finally opens his eyes and notices Parker, he falls and falls hard.

There are so many quotes I wish I could share. I think I’ve settled on this one. “I’ll take the wonky paper clip if it means youʼll still sing with a wooden spoon in my kitchen to annoy me.” Before saying this to Parker, Owen had been taking care him. After saying this, Parker told Owen how he sang to make Owen smile. This was such a sweet moment between the two of them.

R. M. Neill writes these sweet moments so well. She writes and has me in all of my emotions. Her writing makes me happy and sad sometimes, but also joyful. It can be spicy but also beautifully sweet. I’m going to keep following and reading her books for the happiness/joy factor.

Owen Dukarski has put a lot of time and effort into his coffee/pastry shop, The Screaming Bean. The somewhat serious and dour boss desperately needs to hire an experienced pastry chef to bring his business to the next level. When he hires the very talented and highly-extroverted (not to mention gorgeous!!) Parker, it seems that he has made the correct business decision…. that is, if he can keep his grumpy attitude from scaring away the help. Parker is all sunshine and unicorns - his happy and positive outlook a breath of fresh air to most people, but a grave annoyance to his cranky new boss. However much the two are attracted to each other, their personalities suggest that it would be easier to mix oil with water.

Finding The Right Forever is a wonderful book!! I found the byplay between the main characters to be charming and heartwarming. I couldn't help but to fall in love with Owen and Parker! It seemed that deep down they were made for each other - their personal backgrounds holding them back somewhat from true happiness. Happily, and without them knowing it, Owen and Parker find that each needs the care and support of the other. What begins as a business deal turns out to be so much more!!

A fabulous novel… very well-written, fun and entertaining!! 5 stars!

Owen is so grumpy, even to the point where he bristles at the cheeriness that Parker brings with him when he comes to work. Parker is trying to find his place, he is trying to establish a home base and he is so grateful for a job that he likes doing something that he enjoys. A happy baker means really good bread and pastries, right? The fact that Owen is so bothered by Parker's sunny disposition was the first sign for me that he was poised to fall. As we get to know them and they get to know one another it is apparent there is more to them than what each initially sees. Owen may be a grump but he cares deeply. Parker has had a tough life, he is still sorting himself out and he chooses to be joyful instead of focusing on his lack of confidence. On the surface they seem so different but at their root, both want someone in their lives and to feel like they are supported and loved. Their road to their HEA hits a snag or two and they have to work on their communication but they get there and it is so nice to see them find their balance and become a true partnership that includes Cheddar - Parker's cat. He made me wish I was not allergic. I am looking forward to Jacob's story. He seems like such a good guy.

When sweet and adorable Parker begins working at The Screaming Bean as the in-house baker, he brings sunshine, smiles and lots of off-key singing with him. Owen, the owner of the Bean finds this most annoying.

Owen has very little reason to be a Grumpy Gus, but he has traded fun for working hard and taking everything VERY seriously. Parker, on the other hand, could have left his tragic past and current difficulties drag him down and make him miserable. And yet, he finds joy in everyday life and shares that joy with everyone around him. Including Owen. Who is doing everything in his power to resist, until he just can’t any longer.

This book has all the feels, joy, anger, sadness, and realistic characters. Both of whom are so in need of each other. And when they finally get together, my heart just leapt for joy. It also has some of the funniest, most unexpected lines that totally made me laugh out loud. Such as, “He wore a reindeer onesie to work today.”

I recommend this book so much. The author does a great job with pacing, character development and the story is just wonderful.
