I’m unemployed, recently divorced, and living with my parents. I have nowhere to go but up.
A year ago I was married and living in a wealthy neighborhood in the biggest city in Alabama. That was before my husband left me and I tucked tail and ran home to Mama. Now I’m literally banking my five-year-old daughter’s future on my getting hired as a teller at the local credit union.
I may not have a college education—at least not completely—but beauty pageants, sorority functions, and Junior League events have taught me how to interview like a pro. Too bad I’m stuck driving my daddy’s old Ford with no air-conditioning in the Alabama summer, which is hotter than a jalapeño's armpit.
But that’s the least of my worries after I play chicken with a chicken truck and wreck Big Red.
Between the truck driver’s colorful cussing and the sheriff’s flirtatious questioning, I’m ready to fly the coop any way I can. That’s when Tanner Nash, the biggest prankster in high school, comes out of nowhere and rescues me. He saves me and my interview, winning the role of my new bestie back in Apple Cart.
We have more in common than I ever imagined—especially when it comes to wanting to ward off all the matchmakers in Apple Cart County. A little fake romance seems like the perfect solution to both get what we want.
Kaci Lane is an Alabama girl whose mission in life is to write stories that relate to real-life issues with a bit of comic relief. While unsuccessfully trying to learn Spanish for a decade, she has become fluent in Sarcasm, Southern Belle and movie quotes. She is married to a true Southern gentleman and has two young children, all of which help keep her humility in check.
With a background and degree in journalism, Kaci has written almost everything about anything. Well, except for topics that would make any good Southern Baptist’s face turn the color of a Crimson Tide football jersey.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book!! Chicken about Love is a hilarious and insanely good clean romantic comedy. Small-town Southern life is perfectly captured from the nosy “greetings” to the fact that you can’t run to the grocery store without seeing someone you know. Tanner and Hannah did teach me a lesson…. only fake date a cute guy because you’ll probably end up falling in love for real.
Hannah’s starting over and Tanner, well, Tanner might finally be starting for a change. How are these two supposed to cope when their fake relationship generates mighty real feelings? Oh my gosh! That was just so much fun. It's sweet and it's so very funny. It's filled with everything good (and bad) about small town living: everybody knows what’s going on and most of them have an idea they think will help. I loved watching Hannah find her self-confidence again and seeing Tanner come out from behind his siblings’ shadows. These two are so perfectly adorable together. I hate having to let them go now that the book’s over and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
Hannah heads back to her hometown after her divorce, unemployed and living with her parents. She is now pinning her hopes on getting the job as a teller at the credit union. But she’s not starting out well right now, driving her dad’s old truck with no A/C on a hot day in Alabama, then having an accident that wrecks the truck. To her great surprise, Tanner Nash comes to her aid and gets her through her interview.
The two of them decide to team up and fend off the busybody matchmakers by pretending a fake romance. It seems to be working well, until those pesky “real” feelings surface and bring along confusion and insecurity. Now what will they do?
Fabulous! Really enjoyed this clean, romantic comedy with great banter and a slime ball or two thrown in for good measure! God, being remembered in prayer and giving of thanks for the food He provided were mentioned too.
Loved how, even though the small town gossip mill is in full flow, they can be counted on to pull together to give two of their own their happily ever after.
Highly recommended - please read!

Fun, clean romance. Hannah and Tanner make a really cute couple. Fake relationship that (of course) morphs into real love. Characters are well written and believable. Enjoyed reading this. I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
Definitely grabbed my attention right away. Poor Hannah and the chicken truck! But that's how she met Tanner again , who is such an awesome guy! Loved Taylor! Loved the story! Fantastic book!
Another great happily ever after. I absolutely loved this book. These books are fun and relaxing. The author does a great job making you love the characters
Moving home after her divorce finds Hannah finds herself back in Apple Cart. A few car mishaps to start her first day adulting back in her hometown, between a flat tire, no spare and getting Daddy’s Big Red on the road to her job interview at the back seems like her day is picking up. Until an accident with a chicken truck, Big Red in a ditch, and being rescued from a high school friend hopefully gets her day back on track. The loving rumor mill of Apple Cart wants nothing more than to see local resident Tanner setup with a nice woman. With Hannah arriving back in town, this definitely brings up a new optional suitor. Tanner being used to tut town matchmakers decides to, hopefully, get in front of all this by proposing a mutually beneficial arrangement with Hannah. A few select dates to keep all the busybodies off BOTH their backs. But how long can this last? A fake relationship…will real feelings come about? Will Dalton, Hannah’s ex show back up?
This is another fun story that Kaci had wonderfully written. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it.
This is a clean second chance, southern romance. I loved it!
I liked Hannah as a heroine, how strong she is and all she had to overcome to get where she was. I loved the chemistry they had with Tanner, and how they put Taylor first every time. I am not gonna lie, I got frustrated during the climax of the plot. I just wanted her to come clean to Tanner, but then I guess going through what she did creates a little resistance.
And Tanner!!! I loved this guy, he's so funny with "all those chicks crawling all over him" 🐥 that was gold. He's just a sweetheart. I loved him! And I definitely liked how he was with Hannah and Taylor, it was just so cute. Even with her family too.
I love this series! I loved seeing Jack and Bianca again... I hope there are more books involved! So many good second characters here I will definitely keep reading from this author. So so good. Check this one out!
* I was kindly gifted an ARC from the author. This doesn't influence in any form my review/opinion of the book*
I don't know why it took me so long to get to this book! Chicken About Love by Kaci Lane is the second book in the Bama Boys Sweet RomCom series. I recommend reading them in order, although they would be okay to read as stand-alone novels.
Read for:
🐔memorable meet cute (re-meet they knew each other in high school)
🐔small-town vibes
🐔southern charm
🐔witty banter
🐔chickens
🐔fake dating
🐔HEA
Two of my pet peeves play a minor role in this book (jumping to conclusions, and I won't say the second because it would be a mild spoiler). However, they were not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the story. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Thank you to Kaci Lane for giving me a copy of this book back in 2021. I don't think I was supposed to review it, but if I was, I am SO sorry it took me so long to get to it! All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Hannah is back in town after leaving her husband. Determined to make a new life for herself and her daughter, she has an interview but is running late and has an incident with a chicken truck. Tanner arrives on the scene as part of his job. He remembers Hannah from school and starts to spend time with her, and they agree to fake date to keep the town match-makers away from them, but could it lead to something real for them?

This was a wonderful Rom-Com story. Tanner and Hannah were made for each other. Friends from school, reunite and create a plan to fake date. Of course, things don't always work out as planned. They thought this would get all the busy bodies in town to quit trying to set them up on blind dates or with friends and relatives. Some of the things they do will have you laughing and then there is also a tear or two that you will shed. I loved this story because you could put yourself in their places and relate to it.
I have read all the books in Kaci Lane's Bama Boys series, and have loved them all. But I think this one's my favorite. I mean, what's not to love? You have a guy who's never felt good enough, but has hilarious conversations with everyone he meets, a former head cheerleader who's now a single mom because of a cheating ex, a small, gossip-filled town, and a fake relationship. Oh! And chickens! Yep, this one's my favorite. You just can't beat their banter and the sparks.
This was laugh out loud funny! I adored this sweet southern romcom! Tanner and Hannah have depth and are relatable characters! I can't wait to see what comes next in this series!
I received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.
I will let my four daughters and two granddaughters read this book. It isn't all that often that you find a book that you can let everyone read. I fell in love with this whole series.
I really enjoyed this book. The country side of Alabama is really pretty, as someone who has been there. The rustic life and the close knit community reminds me why I love books like this.
Hannah and Tanner are adorable. I really liked them together and as separate characters. Both are extremely unique and sweet. What I loved about each is that they had their own goals, but were really respectful about Hannah’s daughter. I love it when a single parent really keeps their kid in mind and this mom, Hannah is awesome.
The entire fake relationship premise is one of my favorite tropes. There is so much tension and spark. I love it when the characters realize that the whole act might be an act for the world, but is as real for them as ever. The romance has cute kissing scenes and adorable banter.
Also, this book made me laugh. I loved the sense of humor in this book. My humor is often dry and the snark was up my alley.
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. I enjoyed this story and the characters. The book really embodies small town living in the south. Hannah comes back to her hometown after divorce. She and Tanner knew each other from their youth. He surprises her when he has her back after her day is going horrible. This begins a mutual relationship to defeat the matchmakers. It will lead to much more than they thought. The story is full of humor, strength and acceptance. It is about moving forward and finding love again in a small town.

I am loving the Kaci Lane Bama Boys Series. Kaci Lane does a superb job interweaving the characters and drawing you into their lives. They are so believable and their feelings of love, angst then happiness make them so relatable. I typically read at night when I get into bed, thank goodness for my Kindle because I can read without worrying about keeping my husband awake. I say this because I have a hard time putting Kaci Lane books down, they are that captivating. Please keep writing these sweet, funny books Kaci and I will keep buying them!
Hannah and Tanner are such a cute couple and Taylor steals the show. Their romance starts off fake then turns real but both have their own issues to overcome. They do get their happily ever after, what a beautiful moment, and everything turns out well. Dalton is also a unlikable character.

This book was an absolute joy to read! Tanner and Hannah's story is a sweet clean romance that was so much fun to read. It hooks you on the first page and will keep you turning the pages. I loved it and highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of small-town romances. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Loved this book! Story was sweet and well written. Hannah was a sweet divorcee who's ex was a douche. Tanner was a guy who had never been in a relationship. When she moved back to town, after her divorce, she and Tanner made a pact to hang out, to stop people from setting them up on blind dates. This is their story of love.
I tried to read the first one and disliked the set up so much I skipped it to read this one. This was more believable but the leading man just didn't do it for me. I'm glad he grew up by the end but it was tough reading. This is a clean romance with no religion.
