When Mim Cohen arrived in Paris with her dad, and six year old brother Nat, their horse Flossy had delivered them to where they were needed. The travelling bookshop was magical, and Flossy always knew where they were needed next. When they met the artist Pierre, who painted beautiful portraits but was too anxious to sell them to their owners, Mim knew Pierre was the person who needed help. Finding the correct book in their magnificent bookshop was the challenge.

Sightseeing around the beautiful city of Paris, the three of them met some delightful people. And suddenly what was needed for Pierre became clear. But could they do it?

Mim and the Anxious Artist is the 3rd in the Travelling Bookshop series by Aussie author Katrina Nannestad and again, it was lots of fun. Nat is a consistently excitable little boy, while Mim is the sensible ten year old. Their dad is filled with purpose, his desire to help people at the forefront, while their mum lives in Vienna, working at what she does. An enjoyable series for youngsters, which I recommend.

I absolutely love this series! Mim’s life sounds so wonderfully perfect, just travelling the world in their magical bookshop and helping the people around them find the perfect books. These books bring some so much joy.

Mim is woken up by her younger brother, Nat, hitting her with a baguette.
'I'm listening, Nat, stop hitting me.'
'It looks amazing, doesn't it?' Nat replied.
'What does?'
'The Awful Tower!' Nat shouts, pointing out the caravan window.
The travelling bookshop is in Paris.
The Eiffel Tower is exactly what it's like in pictures.
'Maaa! Maaa!' Daisy, our pet lamb, agrees.
'Awk!' Coco the cockatoo fluffs up her feathers and frowns.
The door opens, and Dad sticks his head in. 'Have you seen it?'

Nat, Daisy and I join Dad on the bench seat at the front of the caravan. Dad gives the reins a little snap and clicks his tongue, as if he's really driving. But he's not. Flossy picks up speed. When we reach the right spot, our horse Flossy will stop. They race past Notre Dame Cathedral they hear the bells ringing. They speed along the streets and uphill until Flossy stops suddenly.

Dad waves and sings, 'Welcome ot Montmartre!' Artists are at their easels.

The travelling bookshop has arrived. Zedekiah, Miriam-Rose, Nathaniel, Daisy, Coco and the books are here. We don't know why. We know it's the place where we're meant to be. The magic happens.
The staircase going down is solid, with a sturdy iron handrail, different to the dark, rickety stairs of the last stop.

Mim and Nat go outside to explore. They eat chocolate cake and go on a carousel ride. Artists are in the gardens. They meet an anxious artist who does beautiful paintings but then doesn't want to sell them. He runs away when angry customers chase him. He hides and takes his portraits with him.

Madame Lachepelle invites them all to her home for afternoon tea. She has a large home and lonely days since her husband died. The Cohens go and enjoy her sweet treats, they all begin with 'S', so Nat is happy, that's his favourite letter. She asks Pierre to paint her portrait. He enjoys doing it, but he won't sell it to her. She doesn't get upset. It's the company she likes most.

Mim wonders why her dad is giving Pierre a book about 'gardening for beginners'. How could that help him sell his portraits? And then, her dad gives the lovely Madame Lachepelle a book about 'The World's Most Popular Souvenirs'. How could this help either of them?

When they receive an invitation to the opening of 'Gallery Pierre'. They all arrive in fancy outfits, which they'd tried on at the afternoon tea. The walls are covered with portraits. Madame proudly says she put them all up with guidance from 'The Happy Home Handyman.' The book Mims' dad had given her from the bookshop.

I loved this book as much as the first two in the series. How could you not, when a six-year-old loves The Awful Tower and the Loo? The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.

I loved this book.
After reading the first two books in The Travelling Bookshop series I was both excited and nervous to read this book. Thankfully I had no reason to be worried as this book was everything I had hoped it would be.
Getting to journey with Mim, Nat, and Zeddy; as well as all animals of The Travelling Bookshop, was like catching up with old friends; warm and much needed. I loved that we get to see the characters grow and develop more of their personalities as this series continues.
I think it is wonderful that each of The Travelling Bookshop has its own message and something for young readers to learn. Having this book focus on Anxiety was something that I was really interested to read about. The way in which Anxiety was handled in this book is perfect for the intended age of the readers of the book.
Katrina Nannestad has done a fantastic job with this book. It was sweet and fun, while also teaching young readers an important lesson without being heavy-handed in any way. The characters were interesting and at times intriguing, and the writing was easy to follow and perfectly paced.
Adding to Katrina Nannestad’s fabulous story were stunning Illustrations by Cheryl Orsini. Cheryl Orsini’s illustrations not only bring the words to life they perfectly complement the story being told.
I honestly don’t have a bad word to say about this book, and I can't wait to get stuck in the next book in this brilliant series.
Mim And The Anxious Artist by Katrina Nannestad is a wonderful addition to The Travelling Bookshop series.

I need to paint and draw portraits. I need to capture the face , the feeling , the heart, the soul of the people around me. To do it all with colour and line and blob and blur. I need to paint and draw portraits like other people need to breathe.
Like I need to sell books says dad , squeezing Pierre ‘s shoulder.
I look at the folder sign in my hand . Like I need to collect words.
Nat nods wisely . Like I need the letter S.
Pierre ‘s eyes fill with tears. He stretches out his long, skinny arms and pulls us all together into a group hug. Thank you! Thank you! At last someone understands.

What makes an artist who stands in a square in Montmatre not give them to the people who asked him to paint them? Mim and her father and brother meet this man and others in this book. Again the bookshop helps the lives of those who come including the Anxious Artist. It did not grab me as much as the first two.
