Feel like making a deal with the Devil? When badass bounty hunter Rebel Weston finds herself facing down an Arch Demon, practically daring him to fight, she has to wonder how the hell she got here.
It all started with a tracking gig for the Vampire Master of New Orleans. It was supposed to be find a missing telepathic mage, earn a bundle of cash, and walk away.
But nothing's simple in The Big Easy. Rebel is used to being the hunter, but now she's the one being hunted.
Rebel may be a Spirit Walker, but she's not sure she can get out of this one alive.
From wildly sexy werewolves to terrifyingly beautiful vampires and ultra-powerful witches who prefer their martinis up with a twist, Rebel is going to need a little help from her friends. ______________________________________

Praise for the Rebel Magic★★★★★ "Alex Fox ranks right up there with Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews." ★★★★★ "This series is reminiscent of Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter. Just as good." ★★★★★ "Rebel is a wicked good character. She is tough, intelligent, caring, and kickass. This was a wonderful discovery." ★★★★★ "When is this book series becoming a TV series? Someone needs to make that happen." ★★★★★ "I read through the entire book in one sitting and cannot recommend it too highly." ★★★★★ "These books give you a little something different than the same ole' werewolf, vampire, etc. stories."
Perfect for fans of K.F. Breene, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Devon Monk, Seana Kelly, Michael Anderle, Shannon Mayer, Annette Marie, BR Kingsolver, and Debra Dunbar.
I have always loved the supernatural, starting with an early-age addiction to the Queen of Paranormal, Anne Rice (God rest her soul, that brilliant woman!).
My motto is simple: write fast, publish fast, keep it fun. My stories are snarky, edgy, occasionally bloody, and seriously addictive!
“The man who raised me used to say we waste our whole lives perfecting our disguise while we search for people we can’t fool.
Fun and engaging. Not anything groundbreaking in any way, but I'm really enjoying it. Rebel is a fun POV to read from, and with new characters being added it is keeping my attention pretty well. Luckily for me there's 7 more books in this series to keep me going for a while
Giving me old school Urban Fantasy vibes, like Jane Yellowrock and maybe even early Anita Blake, before that series went to shit!
Have no idea what's going on with the romance, or if she'll go there with anyone. Gael, the master vamp, and the werewolf she meets in this book seem the obvious candidates so far. I loathe a love triangle, but this isn't giving those feelings so far, thank goodness.
This is the Book 2 in Rebel Magic series, and I'm having an absolute blast making my way through the series. This book propels off the first in a great way.
Pacing: Once again, this novel enjoys great pacing. It's short and snappy without feeling rushed. Its length corresponds excellently to the storyline.
Plot: I really enjoyed the plot in this book. The world that we are introduced to just keeps getting wider and wider. The progression of the story flowed nicely, and the villian was also sufficiently challenging.
The main character: Something I really enjoy about this series so far is how the heroine is so capable, both physically and with her smarts, but also acknowledges and accepts her limitations. Some FMCs suffer from a serious disease of being too stupid to live and chuck themselves into every dangerous situation for no apparent reason. I enjoyed the part of the book where Rebel accepted that she didn't have the super strength or speed enjoyed by the supernaturals that she was surrounded with and went to back off.
Rather than throwing herself blindly into trouble, trouble finds Rebel and then Rebel has to choose how to deal with it.
I also liked, however, how we are seeing Rebel slowly develop her abilities and get stronger.
Characters: This book used the introduction of the characters and developed them in an organic but really captivating way. We learnt more about Kai, Gael, and Ms Dottie even in just the glimpses that we got throughout the novel.
Every character has a distinct personality, which is something I really value in a series.
Fox also has an excellent ability to introduce more and more characters with it feeling natural. Aric was an interesting introduction to the cast. I also thought it was clever to
Relationships: Rebel has a great way of befriending the people along her journey, but also annoying exactly the right (or wrong!) people, so it makes a lot of the interactions entertaining to read.
I must also admit that I am a sucker for a good romance in my urban fantasy series. This book, rather than having a blatant love interest, has hints of romantic tension between Rebel and several characters. I must admit that I am a big fan of a slow burn and a more reserved romance than what is usually written in books, so this is right up my alley. All of the hints of romance between different characters really have very different flavours: the interactions between Rebel and Gael, Rebel and Kai, and Rebel and Aric all bring something different to the table. I feel there's no haste to come to a resolution as the natural evolution of those relationships is a joy to read.
Conclusion: This series is fast becoming a favourite of mine, and this second book just brought me further into the world and made me more invested. I highly recommend this urban fantasy series!
I love this book. I was in book two of another book when this series was recommended to my by Amazon. It’s such a fun book. I love every second of it. It’s a great read. The pacing is well. The words used extended my vocabulary and I mean what else can I say? Read this book. You really need to.
Never make deal with a vampire! Pity that Rebel had to find that out, the hard way. What seems like an easy gig for Gael, the head of the New Orleans Vampire Nocturne, turns into Rebel being a highly sought prize for an Arch demon. Just, what the hell trouble has she gotten into, now? Luckily, Rebel has a few new friends who aren’t out to screw her around. Will Rebel, Ms. Dottie, the werewolves and the shifty vampires be enough to battle and win against demons?
I have read both one and two in three days, could not stop reading,so hooked on all the characters , I’m looking forward to the next one. I have also got a work colleague to download and read too.
Yes, another fast, enjoyable read my friends! So much sexual tension and man, it was good. Amazing lead up to the climax and I wasn't expecting any of it. I'm enjoying this series. Love our little badass spirit walker and hottie male supernatural MC's.
One thing about Rebel that I love, is that she's not a flat main character who's already perfect at everything she does. She's relatable because she makes mistakes and she learns from those mistakes, she's also aware of her own limitations.
In this book she becomes the target of of a pretty important demon. I don't want to spoil much in terms of plot, but I can say that one of Ms Fox' talents is to organically and seamlessly introduce new characters who, in the long run, become part of Rebel's found family (one of my favorite tropes). Also, at this point we are introduced to new potential romantic interests, which definitely keeps things interesting.
Rebel takes no prisoners. She is a badass and powerful FMC, but although she's a spirit walker, she's profoundly human, therefore flawed, which makes her nuanced and three dimensional character with a soul.
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I completely change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring down a lot. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
I read this book right after reading the first one, that I rated 3.5. This book totally put me off the series.
I thought either Kai or Gael from book one was the love interest and was already annoyed at the trope, when a third love interest was added.
First time read the author's work?: No
Will you be reading more?: No
Would you recommend?: No
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
She certainly takes no prisoners and won't back down from a fight, Rebel will take on the world to save her friends. This unlikely alliance with the vamps, witches snd wolves gives Rebel a sense of family and draws her further into the intrigue and dangers of New Orleans supernatural society. Living on the edge gas it's excitement but the survival rate is very low. Good thing she has a vampire on standby if she gets in a fight. Fun and engaging characters who keep me turning the pages to read about their latest adventures.
Great story, fast read. 2nd book in the series. New Orleans paranormals are gearing up for mages with Rebel working for Gael to discover what happened to his longtime friend.
I didn’t love this one as much as the first book. It focused more on moving the mystery forward but left something to be desired in regard to characters. Which was a shame because there were some great new ones introduced. I just wanted them to be explored more. It’s still a solid book though.
Excellent writing, fascinating world building, engrossing story arc and absolutely wonderful characters. Complex and intelligent. Who could ask for anything more ?!?
Well I went ahead and bought the entire series as winter is approaching here in southern Ontario and staying warm inside with a good read looks like a good idea
Really liked this one. Rebel is in quite a fix in this book. There are warewolves, vampires, a coven of witches, a couple of fire mages and on top of all that a demon. Wow.
Really love reading this series. Loads of action, fun, adventure, intrigue and plots within plots. Amazing series and cannot wait to read the next book!
Rebel, the spirit walker, is back. Now teaming with the vampires, werewolves, and witches to take on demons and a prince of Hel. There's even a half succubus. Fun little story
