Rate this book
Gain an informed perspective on Christianity and homosexuality. There are many misconceptions about Christianity and homosexuality. Christians are often perceived as being simply reactionary or behind the times. We can sometimes speak where we do not understand. We can do better. Do you have an informed and biblical view on homosexuality? In How Should We Think About Homosexuality?, Mark. A. Yarhouse brings his expertise to bear on this question. If we are to speak with clarity and conviction, we must first be informed. Christianity has long held a sexual ethic regarding creation, family, and sexuality, and Christians must know how to relate to other views of sexuality. Yarhouse considers how to think about recent scientific findings and sexual identity language before suggesting avenues of fruitful discipleship for same--sex attracted Christians. The Questions for Restless Minds series applies God's word to today's issues. Each short book faces tough questions honestly and clearly, so you can think wisely, act with conviction, and become more like Christ.

I got the impression that Yarhouse, basically, does not believe folks can come out of identifying as one of the letters (LGBT).

As an overcomer thru the conviction of the Holy Spirit and the healing power of Christ Jesus I left my lesbian past . . . . God used a Southern Baptist Church to love me with the love of Christ Jesus

My story is not unique. There are 100s of thousands of us who have walked away from a life in the letters.

This D.A. Carson series is intended to help Christian undergraduates understand social issues as they enter college. In my opinion, Yarhouse did a terrible job of the objective.

I say this given the fact that his information is based on his studies and his writings and his experiences with folks identifying or not in the letters. His info is based on his research. I've read on his ink on these topics. Very little space is given to those of us who successfully thru Christ, left the lifestyles.

Disappointed in the beginning of this booklet when he mentions the APA in 1973 removing homosexuality from the DSM. He didn't mentioned the only reason they did this was the gay militant activists who were violently disrupting their regional meetings across the states.

He did mention Spitzer's study on those who left homosexuality. He failed to mention how gay activists bullied Spitzer in his older years to recant.

While toward the end of this writing Yarhouse does mention some scripture. He seems to forget God's created order as he seemingly leans towards same gender attractions (SGA) being natural.

He ends the writing speaking of celibacy and singleness. That's disappointing in that it's a mind set of being about God's glory than whether or not a person is single or married.

Too many with SGA focus too much on the struggle of celibacy and singleness. Being single is a gift from God in order that we may be about God's business

The key is not introducing people to heterosexuality, it's about introducing the to Jesus Christ

This short book is no walk-in-the-park. While it is concise, this book is fairly academic—I wonderful thing if you're looking for that (I was!). But this is not something you could just hand to the average church goer or student. Of course, anyone who reads this will learn a great deal, I know I did. Something which is refreshing about this text is that it is research oriented, academic, and nuanced. There is no hint of 'culture war' rhetoric. Instead, Yarhouse makes his case in light of his professional expertise, his theological conviction, and his concern for others.

Heavier on psychology than theology perhaps, but this makes it a standout introduction to a christian psychological introduction to the topic.
