BETRAYAL. PASSION. MAGIC. And…WIGS! From the sparkling imagination of gifted entertainer Keke Palmer and her iconic alter ego, Lady Miss Jacqueline, comes a hilarious modern fairy tale about a wilting violet, a clash of personalities, and a multitude of hair.
MY DEAR FRIEND JANET
Poor Janet and her fifty shades of beige. At least her inner voice, the sensational Lady Miss Jacqueline, is coming out in an outrageously funny short story about magic, courage, and - oh honey - the wigs!
FROM THE DESK OF LADY MISS
Hopelessly sad and lightly drab Janet takes a spin with Lady Miss Jacqueline in this hysterically funny short story of a magical wig that turns a wallflower into the flashiest bulb in the room. Does Lady Miss go too far? Always!
CHELSEA’S WERK WEEK
According to Lady Miss Jacqueline, her dear friend Janet is killing it. But appearances deceive in this sharply funny short story about best-laid plans, dirty blondes, and living life in all caps.
KERI ON THE LOOSE
There’s a bold new Janet in town. Let Lady Miss Jacqueline spell it out for you: F-I-E-R-C-E.
But there’s a lesson to be learned in this fabulously off-the-wall short story about life on the edge.
SOPHIE DREAMS BIG
Starry-eyed Janet is enchanted by her new wig, but Lady Miss knows her dear friend will soon be caught in a tangle of doubts in this whimsical short story about courage, self-worth, and confidence.
This story is about Janet who is a bland character who has lots of ideas at work but never says much. She is capable of so much more, the last straw is a colleague peeking a look as she writes notes and stealing her idea.
Something has to change but what? The next thing we know she is trying on a wig, they are not just any wig they are magical and Janet transforms to a different character with each wig she chooses. The wigs have their own name as well as personalities.
The narrator Keke Palmer is quick witted a touch over the top but I got used to her quick fire jibes and insults, a fun collection of short stories but totally different to anything I have listened.
This collab is phenomenal!!! Keke did the absolute MOST with the narration and it was wonderful to see all her characters come to life in one story. I can only imagine how much fun Jasmine and Keke had making this gem. 💕✨💕
Such a fun listen! Keke Palmer is one of my favorites to follow online and I was so excited to find out she had made all these characters into an audiobook. She does the funniest voices and impressions on Instagram and I love her so much. A couple of the voices were a little annoying at times but overall I had a good laugh and really enjoyed this light read. Perfect to listen to while driving.
If I had to choose three words to describe this short story series, it would be light, fun and positive. Keke is brilliant. The way she articulates and performs through this series makes all the characters come to life. This story is about a woman name Janet that lacked confidence in herself but through different wigs she manages to become the woman she was meant to be. My favorite character is Lady Miss Jacqueline. I loved her roasts, arrogance and confidence. Some may think she was a you know what… but in a entertainment world, I loved her. It was very entertaining. She went soft at the end so I guess she has a heart. 🤣 I loved her southern Belle accent. She did it so well. I would have to say my least favorite characters would have been Chelsea and Keri. It was the valley voice and the dude voice for me because other than that they handled business. So take away the voice I would love them. Keri was a wild child. 🤣🤣 Sophie kind of fell flat for me and wasn’t as entertaining because she was overly nice. The overall message of the story is that sometimes a person needs a confidence boost and or great support to realize their full potential. Read or Listen to find out if Janet got her happy ending.
It is a very short series that can read or listened to in a day. This series is very eccentric and descriptive. Keke does a great job at bringing it all to life. If you want something light and innocent give it a chance.
I averaged my ratings of all 5 series to get my rating. It’s a 4 because I wasn’t in love without all the characters. I still believe that Keri should have been a home girl.🤣🤣

I’ve seen Keke Palmer on Good Morning America and always felt that she had a feisty, spirited and fun personality. That same type of personality shines through with Southern Belle Insults. It was an interesting concept to have a character like Janet, with the professed “beige” personality, morph into the various types of personalities and characters that only the best wig can bring forth–and while I’ve never worn wigs myself, other than for Halloween costumes, I imagine that same kind of energy I feel when I wear one, becoming the character I’m trying to portray is the same kind of energy that Janet feels. In essence, the experiences bring her out of her shell and turn her into something other than “beige.”
What I thought was great are the moments where there are reflections of the fact that who Janet feels she might be from one wig to the next, are really just extensions of who she is inside, there all along. This becomes evident with the cute guy she has a secret crush on from afar. He works at the coffee shop she frequents, and at one point, no matter which persona she happens to be that day, he tells her that he sees HER and has known who she is–no matter the Chelsea’s, Kari’s, or Sophie’s. Janet is Janet, and that is more than enough.
This short story collection (really just one story in five parts) was simply delightful. The character Lady Miss Jaqueline is hilarious, and Keke’s narration is nothing by superb. It’s fun, and free if you have Amazon Prime.
This is a collection of short episodes/chapters about some magical wigs that when worn, completely takeover the mind and body of the wearer and try to fix their dreary, dull, drab non-existent life and hopefully, their personality too...maybe. The concept was interesting and I liked the set-up in the first chapter. The second chapter was okay-ish but the third - just nope. Can't do it. Can't continue listening to this. Hate to DNF but after working all day with my eyes glued to the screen, I need to read/listen to something that I'll actually enjoy, not some narrator yelling in my ears with a ridiculous accent. :/
This has got to be the best story I have ever listened too! I laughed so loud I'm sure my neighbors heard me. Only the author could narrate this as she knew exactly what the characters should sound like. Although it was a fun magical story it's also a good lesson. I need more of these!
Jasmine Guillory can write engaging characters like it's no one's biz. Combine that with Keke Palmer's ability to bring even a WIG to life and you've got a hilariously wild ride!
I read the full Keke Palmer Southern Belle series as prime reads. My Dear Friend Janet was interesting, just interesting enough to make me want to know what happens next. From the Desk of Lady Miss is Janet taking control of her work and the ad campaign we learned about in the first book. She may have taken things to the extreme though. Reading on to see what happens next. Chelsea's Werk Week sees Janet taking it too far, but her confidence has such a boost that she wants more. More, aka Keri, comes with a warning though. Keri on the Loose takes Janet on an adventure where she makes choices that are for Janet. Sophie Dreams Big is a sweet conclusion to the series. Believe in yourself.
