Brody Caldwell, deputy sheriff and alpha of the Blood Moon, Texas pack, receives a phone call on the eve of a crucial summit between humans, shapeshifters and vampires. An assassination attempt has been made against the leader of the werewolf council. One of his brothers claims responsibility. After a series of attacks and increasing hostility from the council, Brody seeks out a former source to get answers—London Blake, the fierce and beautiful former alpha of the Austin, Texas pack.
Two years ago, London was exiled by the werewolf council for a crime she didn’t commit. With her pack subject to human rights violations and the council refusing to listen, London turns to Brody to help her gather the intelligence needed to clear her name.
Someone wants them silenced. Together they will have to race against the clock to discover who is behind the attacks before they derail the paranormal peace summit.
ALPHA is part of the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series. Sizzling hot romance. Guaranteed HEA.
Author Kat Kinney writes spicy paranormal romance and heartwarming cozy fantasy. Her books have found family, adorable pets, strong female characters, and happy endings!
She lives with her family and three extremely pampered guinea pigs who do not like werewolves, vampires, or dragons and wonder why their human insists on writing about things that like to eat them. When she isn’t writing about things that bite and howl, Kat can be found knitting crazy socks, puttering about her garden, baking entirely too many pies, and plotting out future books!
I'm such a fan of this series and this latest installment does not disappoint. This fourth book in the Blood Moon series focuses on the eldest son of the Caldwell family, Brody. He's assumed position of alpha in his pack, but it hasn't been easy to fill his father's shoes. (Or, you know, paws...) On the eve of an important meeting between humans and shifters, he gets an ominous phone call that sets of a chain of events which puts his entire family in danger. He turns to London, an exiled alpha and a woman with whom he has a romantic past. As the heat between them grows, they have to not only figure out how to save their packs, but if they can actually have a romantic future. Great story. Lots of steam. I'm really invested in what happens next!
I received an advance review copy for free from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is the first book I've read in this series, so I went into it blind. Now I must go back and read #1-3. Otherwise, I'll pine over when #5 comes out.
Brody is the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack and the ultimate cinnamon roll—sweet, protective, understanding, thoughtful, and a dog dad. London is a pretty bad*ss female werewolf, and an Alpha in her own right, even though she was dethroned. There was some history in a previous book or two, but the author did a good job of catching the reader up, so I didn't feel completely lost. In fact, the synopses of the previous books were well done and sprinkled in unobtrusively.
The plot was action-packed and exciting, with romance woven into the storyline. There was enough mystery around the events to keep it interesting, but it wasn't so complex that I felt lost.
The one gripe I have is regarding the end. The wrap-up of the plot was fast and abrupt. It all happened in the last 10% of the book (before the epilogue), and it conveniently wrapped up the major threads (a few were left for future books). However, since this is an ongoing series, I guess that's to be expected. There are several ways this book could go, and several more brothers' lives to follow ;).
I'm rooting for a River book next...or Cal...or August... Argh! All of them are so enticing!
Dogs, doughnuts, and forbidden love! Kinney runs yet another Caldwell brother through the emotional wringer in Alpha, book 4 of her Texas Shifters Series, and I loved every minutes of it. Two alphas can’t mate. It’s one of the clans’ top rules. And yet, the heart wants what the heart wants. Add in some action and intrigue among the werewolves and Vampire Nation, and you’ve got a story you won’t want to put down. A great addition to a fantastic series.
Another great installment in the Blood Moon, Texas series! I absolutely adore this series and it's an instant buy every time I see there's a new book. This story focuses on Brody and London, and I *think* it might be my favorite love story in the series (don't make me choose though!). Brody is so freaking sweet and hot--can he be real please? And it's so nice to see a female alpha in London, our kick-ass, sassy, smart heroine. The love story is sizzling and the plot moves along nicely. I can't wait until the next book! Highly recommended for paranormal romance lovers.
Since I pre-ordered this book and read it right after its release, it’s needless to say that I absolutely love the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series by Kat Kinney. The more I find out about the lives of the Caldwells and those who get pulled into the enigmatic werewolf family orbit, the more fervently I want the series not to end. The author has a talent for drawing a vivid picture you feel stepping into while turning the pages. Emotions, flavours, and smells – all come alive during reading.
“Alpha” is a story of Brody and London, two leaders. Both are tortured by hardships the power and authority usually bring, which probably is the main reason why both are perfect for their roles.
Brody is the alpha of the Blood Moon shapeshifters pack, assigned this role after the former alpha – his father – was kidnapped. In the previous instalment of the series, the patriarch of the Caldwells was found and rescued from the horrible vampire prison. There are reasons why he can’t get back into the alpha role, but it doesn’t make Brody’s life easier.
London is a former alpha of another pack. It’s probably one of the shapeshifters’ unwritten rules that there isn’t such thing as ex-alpha. True leaders don’t stop being who they are if they formally lose power. London is definitely one of those leaders who think primarily about what she could do for the people she is responsible for. Not what privileges she can acquire using the advantages of her position. Taking care of people is in her blood. As it’s an integral part of Brody as well. Does it make them perfect mates or turn their union into a threat to the paranormal community?
“Leadership wasn’t about absolute power. Leadership was about being there at midnight when your pack had a problem. It was about keeping the people assigned to you safe… I might not have been anyone’s first choice. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t the right one for the job.”
Brody and London’s story – warning: sizzling hot scenes will make your blood run faster! – once again proves that love isn’t about weakness. It’s also not about being afraid of losing the person you have feelings for. Love is about finding the one who makes you feel stronger. The one who stands by your side against all odds. Love is when thinking about spending your life with that person, fills your whole being with joy you’ve never experienced before.
As in all other books in the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series, besides love, angst, hot scenes, and incredibly alluring food descriptions, there are political intrigues, conspiracies, secrets revealed, and new questions asked.
This 4th book of the "Blood Moon, Texas Shifters" series, Brody and London's story, is an entertaining paranormal shifter romance and enthralling continuation of the series. There's plenty of suspense and some action as the relations between human, shifter, and vampire continue to deteriorate, and other factions make their presence known.
The characters are all compelling and interesting and there's definite heat between Brody and London, tempered by moments of humor and danger. The contradictory feelings that family can have for each other are well integrated into events and the characters' actions. The love and willingness to do anything for family combines with conflicting personalities and exasperation with each other's decisions and actions to make the characters feel real and believable.
There's a lot going on in the book and it keeps the reader guessing about who's behind the troubles and what exactly is the truth behind events. Some is revealed during the course of the story and new complications arise.
Overall, this is a terrific story, entertaining and engrossing, and with great sizzle between the main characters. I didn't want to put it down, needing to read what happened next. Looking forward to the next in the series!
ALPHA is the fourth book in the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series and London and Brody get their time to shine. I definitely recommend you read this in order as the overall story arc goes from book one and I feel you would miss out on some of the finer details if you don't.
Brody and London are both Alphas of their Packs and an archaic law says two alphas can't be mated. So both of them act as though it's just a bit of fun when everyone else knows it's not. As their relationship as friends and lovers is already long established, you don't get a lot in the way of their relationship changing or growing.
The overall arc moves along at a fair rate of knots in this edition, almost overshadowing the story between Brody and London in places. All of it was important and relevant, mind you. I just felt as though Brody and London's personal connection got lost in the mix even though they were the key players in the story.
A great addition to the series and I definitely recommend it, on the proviso that you read the others first! ** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

Alpha is the 4th book in the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series by Kat Kinney. I haven't read any of the other books in the series and while it can be read without reading the other novels, I wouldn't recommend it. There is too much going on that involves history from the past books.
I had a really hard time getting into this one. I couldn't really settle into the story until after thirty percent in. I just felt like there was too much going on. It was jumping from one thing to the next, without really focusing on any one thing long enough for me to take interest. It was only once things finally started to come together that I became more interested in the story.
The romance between London and Brody was pretty good. I liked both London and Brody and I enjoyed seeing them come together as a couple. Their dogs, Major and Poppy were cute, but I have to admit I got tired of reading about Major's obsession with sweets. I'm not sure if he even had a scene where it wasn't mentioned or shown.
Alpha is a mix of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. I would say it leans more heavily toward urban fantasy. There is a lot going on plot wise and while the romance was a main component, it was secondary to the plot. The story is filled with danger, mystery, romance, betrayal and political intrigue.
I would recommend Alpha it to fans of the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
So this is my first book reading the series; yes I know that crazy since it’s book 4 but it was still AMAZING!! I never felt lost and Kay Kinney is a genius with the ability to recap all the character’s histories without loosing the main story. This book was SO MUCH FUN to read and I’m glad this was the first book I read of this author. I’m sure the series it wonderful and I’m also happy this could be read as a stand-alone. This book will not disappoint!! Alpha is fun, very realistic even though it’s fantasy, enticing, intriguing, and keeps you at the edge of your seat the whole time! I’m privileged to be an ARC reader and review this book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Rvcd an advanced reader copy from Hidden Gems for giving my two cents. It took me a while to read this book. Figured I should've read the earlier books in the series. We meet Brody, cop and Alpha of his pack since his father was rescued and has stayed in wolf form. He is in love with London another alpha of another pack...however she was kicked out on false accusations. There's alot going on....and Brodys brother River seems to be in thr heart of the matter and his uncle Guillermo is apart of it bit doesn't know what is actually going on beside an attempt on his life. Between shifters disappearing the vampires taking more of a stand Brody and his family have so much to cover in so little time in order to save those that matter.
I did not want to put this book down. Being titled Alpha you think you know what you are getting into but Brody and London shatter all those expectations. Brody is determined to do the right thing to protect his frowning pack, he’s sweet with that gentleman charm. He knows what he wants and works hard to protect those he loves. London is strong at heart and wont give up on fighting for her pack and to find the truth about the past. The support is incredible and the strong family ties in this continues to grow on the fact that pack is whoever has your back. Kinney knows how to write about Austin, I love all of the location details she drops on there. The worldbuilding is fleshed out and makes me feel like I can drive out this weekend and get some good bbq and treats from Blair’s or have coffee at Dark while listening to Hayden sing. Each book brings me further into this world and I cannot wait for the next one.
Book four in the series brings Brody and London's story. The author brings strong characters and weaves a story filled with suspense and romance. It's well written with descriptive scenes and is a true page turner. Loved it.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This is the fourth book in the series about shifters, vamps, humans, and the tangled mess of interspecies lives intersecting while love blossoms amid the tension. Well written, with characters that you can connect with, Kat has woven a story of acceptance, of love, of passion - and oh boy the passion - that will leave you wanting more. I recommend curling up with this book, a glass of wine, and get lost in Blood Moon texas.
Another fantastic instalment in the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series. Deliciously dark and sinful. Great characters, and a well written storyline. Would recommend.

An enjoyable fourth book in this series Blood Moon, Texas Shifters. The story will hold your attention all the way through. The characters are likeable and fit well together. You will enjoy this book and series.
Another fantastic instalment in the Blood Moon Texas Shifters series. Brody and London take joint top spot for my favourite couple. I loved the dynamic of their relationship and the forbidden element. It was also nice to see inside Brody's head and to explore his caring side. The overarching plot really cranked up another notch in this book and had me flicking through, desperate to know what was going to happen! Can't wait for the next book.
Kat Kinney's Alpha Book Four is a phenomenal addition to the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters Series, which delves deep into the story of Brody and London, two leaders who face a myriad of challenges. This book is highly recommended for fans of paranormal romance novels. Their union, however, raises questions about the paranormal community's stability. Since both of them are leaders, their relationship could potentially threaten the delicate balance of power among the various groups of paranormal creatures. Brody, who serves as the alpha of the Blood Moon shapeshifters pack, was appointed to his role after his father, the previous alpha, was kidnapped. This leaves Brody with the daunting task of leading the pack, which is no easy feat. London, a former alpha of another pack, is a natural-born leader who believes true leaders are always responsible for their people, even if they lose their power. Her dedication to the people she serves is unwavering, and she is determined to do everything in her power to protect them. Brody shares this same sense of responsibility, and this common ground draws the two of them together. Alpha Book Four is a captivating and entertaining read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The chemistry between Brody and London is sizzling, and their story is one that will stick with you long after you've finished the book. With well-developed characters and an engaging plot, this book is a must-read for fans of the Blood Moon, Texas Shifter Series - a paranormal romance.
A well written story that was captivating to read. The characters were likable and I thought they had amazing chemistry. Their relationship wove together with the drama seamlessly. I enjoyed reading this book.

I have absolutely hated my day!! Why you ask? Because it has been to busy and kept me from reading this marvelous book from Kat Kinney! It has everything you could ask for in a book that will keep you involved, great characters, romance, suspense, and lots more. I can't wait for the next one!!
Alpha is another fantastic installment of Kat Kinney’s Texas Blood Moon Werewolves. We have watched Brody and London’s on and off again romance from afar in the other books, so I was excited that Alpha was their book. They are the ultimate enemies-to-friends-to-enemies-to-pranksters-to-lovers couple. What a roller coaster! Just when you think they are heading toward their HEA, their roles as pack alphas of two different packs get in the way. London’s family history, “on the run” status, and lock-picking abilities make her the best foil for tight-laced Brody. I loved how easily her pranks wound him up and his retaliation. Kat Kinney’s personal touches—like London’s love of cherry-lime soda—make each book unique and engaging.
Brody is my favorite type of book boyfriend—ultra-responsible. He may be alpha, but he’s not an alpha-hole. Brody is a servant leader who will fix the problems of his pack members before he would throw the book at them. From home repairs to grocery runs, he’s humbled enough to take on menial tasks for his pack. This is great for pack members but not great for London, who needs him to go against the rules to be with her. It also contradicts what they know of her family history…but no spoilers here!
Overall, this installment of the Texas Blood Moon Shifters is a wild ride of page-turning plot, swoon-worthy alphas, the best pet cameos ever, and enemies-to-lovers romance.
Brody Caldwell became the Alpha of his pack during his father's absence and is doing his damndest to protect everyone in his territory, human or otherwise - and he's also doing his damndest not to start something with London Blake. She lost her pack but she's still an Alpha. And Alphas aren't allowed to mate, so they absolutely CANNOT fall for each other...yep. No problems here. ;)
Definitely my favourite book of Kinney's so far. The overarching plot in this PNR series is one of the best I've come across and I'm always hankering for the next one. And yeah, I was hanging out for Brody's story because I just love Alphas and this was a two-for-one deal! London and Brody have such amazing chemistry. It's also nice to catch up with all the characters in this series...I'm rather fond of them all.
Alpha is the fourth book in the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters, and I think it’s my favorite in the series. I loved the characters, the romance, the intrigue, and the over-arching plot.
Brody and London are interesting characters, and I love the power dynamics in their romance! Both are alphas. Brody is the alpha of the Blood Moon pack, and London is the ex-alpha of the Austin, Texas pack. They’re both so strong and determined, and they have tremendous responsibility and loyalty to their respective packs. They also have an unbelievable amount of chemistry, even though the odds are stacked against them.
London was exiled from her pack two years ago, but she’s determined to find out who framed her and clear her name. She goes to Brody for help, but it’s clear pretty quickly someone doesn’t want them to find the answers. They make a great team, and they are tireless in their efforts to find the truth while protecting each other and those they care about. Plus, their love story is fantastic! Sexy, romantic, great banter, equal partners – there’s a lot to love about these two.
The secondary characters are great too, and I enjoyed finding out how their lives have progressed amidst the chaos, danger, and disruptions that plague their world. Their relationships and growing families are a bright spot in intense and dark circumstances where assassination attempts, kidnappings, brainwashing, and more threaten shifters, vampires, and more.
And London and Brody’s dogs are the best! Love Poppy and Major!!
The world and over-arching plot are super intriguing. This is a world where shifters, vampires, and supernatural beings in general are common knowledge, though humans aren’t all comfortable about the revelation. It’s interesting to see how this affects the characters lives and changes the political and social realms. I’m curious to see what role these attacks, investigations, and councils have in the future of the characters’ and the lives of all shifters and vampires.
Like the other books in this series, Alpha is a steamy and action-packed paranormal romance. Though it’s the fourth in the series, it can be read as a standalone. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, and I’m so thankful to Kat Kinney for providing me with an advanced copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
This series is incredible! With every book I fall harder! I very much enjoyed this couple...oh Brody and London were cool too, but I totally meant Poppy and Major! They're the true stars! All joked aside, I loved your book so much! There's so much growth in ALL the characters! I love the small details that Kat includes! For example, the bakery appears throughout multiple books & how far Topher has come along in his mental health! The stories link up perfectly, giving you glimpses into past couples lives, speculation if future couples, and the promise of the current!! I also love that Kat can build the romance scene despite so much background story! It's perfectly balanced! And of course always has me wondering what's next, which character may we see next books, etc! I won't lie, I get completely sucked into this fictional world, and I love every bit of it!!
I received this as an ARC for an honest review!! I hope I've swayed your interest! Start the series, you won't regret!
I received an advanced review copy for free for my honest review, and I am leaving this review voluntarily… I was a little worried reading it because I had not read the other books in the series but was told it could be read as a stand alone, and I can say confidently say yes you can but I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series just because this is a really good book and I know the other books is just going to be awesome I can't Waite to read more from this author i absolutely loved the world she created the characters where amazing. The love the family has for each other is what really drew me in, and I can't Waite to read river and Ellie's story next.
Admittedly, it's the fourth book in the series and I read it before I read the first three due to this being an ARC I received for free, to leave a voluntary and honest review.
That being said, it was so good! I loved the dynamic between the couple, and I was eager for more!
🌶️ Each book I think I’ve found the brother whose story I like the most, so really, is it a shocker to now say I liked Brody’s story the most?
His actual story, that is… not all of the intrigue circling the Caldwell pack and the world-at-large. But if a shocker admitting Brody and London quickly grew on me, considering I thought Brody was too stiff to be likable, and London is really a bit of a joke. I want to tell the book to make up its mind- is she a spoiled daddy’s girl who doesn’t take herself (or anyone else) seriously or is she as screwed up as everyone else in the series? How can she really be on the run if she’s constantly at Brody’s house or running around town buying donuts for the gang if she’s supposed to be hunted by vamps, wolves as well as the human governments?
As every other book I’ve read in the series thus far, an editor would go a long way towards streamlining what is becoming easily a cluster of too many arcs smashed together leaving me wanting to start a flowchart of who/what/where/blah/blah/blah.
Too much rushing of scenes where a five mile run between two characters and their dogs takes place within the span of a very short conversation. Things decided to be kept hidden are lucky to make it a paragraph or two before being shared. And the summit where the President of the United States is okay with the three-ring circus that is hyped like crazy (funny, the president wasn’t mentioned in any book before this as knowing about or getting involved in the situation, but hey, why not make this more political than it already was becoming)… oh wait, we get a soundbite after the fact and that’s it???
For this book anyway.
What’s next- if we have vamps, wolves and mixed offspring running amok in the USA then there is no way things aren’t also being outted across the globe and then it’s really going to be a mess, isn’t it?
Yeah, I’m fine with the vampires and wolves having their own issues and trying to deal with it but for three books now the world powers have not been even a whisper and yet it just explodes into being in the middle of this installment? (Sigh). If I had known what I was eventually looking at I wouldn’t have started… I read a wide range of genres, but political thrillers in any form are not what I want or thought I was signing up for.
Just give me the cutesy London who keeps breaking into Brody’s home to paint his dog’s nails or to hook poor Major onto some highly embarrassing new dog toy? Although I’m glad the family has now stopped slipping Major donuts now that the vet mentioned doggie diabetes in that poor dog’s future.
Give me the Brody who looks intimidating but has a gooey center and spends all his spare time helping his brothers and pack members (who are all these pack people as we have yet to really meet any of them other than family and love interests!… well, unless they make for a convenient way to force the storyline wherever it needs to go). Yay, more new characters out of nowhere who we will forget shortly afterwards when they aren’t mentioned again (yeah, we get it, other people apparently exist even if it’s only as a glorified extra).
Yes, there are plenty of moments to like, and some clunkers (what the heck, A????) and why bring up Rowan running to don a verrrrrrrrry shirt miniskirt if we aren’t allowed to find out what happens one August sees her in it? Guess I’ll have to wait for that scene to maybe be included two books from now???
Okay, that one is just probably move due to my blood sugar than an actual gripe… but, as a chronic illness sufferer, let me just say I want August’s story and yet I have to wait until after River and Ellie get theirs in first (even if R&E are my least favorite characters out of the core Caldwell group). Heck, I’d rather read Simon and Juliet’s story than River and Ellie’s… not so much because both are annoying, but I hate forced stories like this. I get Ethan and Hayden were in love since they were kids, but having their siblings fall under Cupid’s arrow as well is too on the nose for me, especially in a series pushing closer to serious rather than rom com.
But that’s a gripe best saved for the next book, where I will undoubtedly now ship them as a couple before the end.
As for Brody and London…. okay, yeah, it took long enough to get me on board, but yeah, they really are kind of cute together when all is said and done. But I really do need to know- just where is Brody’s property at? It sounds like it’s outside of town but then we get the line of how Major’s excited bark while indoors being loud enough to be heard all the way down the block.
Could someone please throw a map my way drawn to scale where everything is? And how do apartments keep being found at West and Topher’s building for people to move into? And outbuildings/cabins for everyone relocated to Blood Moon who still need daily rehabilitation sessions with Cal to stay in out on the ranch?
No, I don’t know why I keep reaching for the next book in the series when I have so many issues… I guess I’m just really wanting answers that make sense to finally show up. Well, that and August’s part of the story.
Really good book, terrible narration Story: 4 Stars, Narration: 1 Star, Overall average: 2.5 Stars (Rounded Up to 3)
'Alpha', the fourth installment of the 'Blood Moon, Texas Shifter' series is the best book in the series up until this point, but the unfortunate tragedy of this audiobook is the narrator is the worst narrator I have ever endured. I listen to hundreds of audiobooks per year and I am not being hyperbolic when I make that claim. The narrator's voice often sounded like chipmunks (think 'Alvin & The Chipmunks') at different pitches for several of the characters, and her non-chipmunk voices, though less-grating, were also not great.
I don't understand why this series relied so heavily on using female narrators when the focus of the books seems to be on the seven werewolf brothers (one brother for each book). While dual narrators are often great to have, I realize it's not always possible. In my experience there is a much smaller pool of female narrators who can convincingly do decent male voices than there are male narrators who can do convincing female voices that don't totally pull me out of the story. Unfortunately this series as a whole on audio suffers from a lot of mediocre and down right awful narration.
'Alpha' features eldest Caldwell brother (and pack alpha) Brody and his blossoming romance with ex-Austin, Texas pack alpha London Blake. I've not been a fan of Brody in the other books, but he was likeable in his own book, of course. I actually think this is one of the strengths of this series and how well written the characters themselves are. We get to see how differently they are perceived through the eyes of the other characters. I hated Brody in Ethan's book 'Crave'. I never really fully warmed up to him before this book as he was still an absolute jerk to Topher in 'Bound' and he never really apologized for his bad behavior when Topher's truths were uncovered and he was vindicated. He's too much of a pompous ass to ever admit wrong-doing. In his own book though we do get a sense of some of his own struggles, but I go right back to not liking him in later books. He's too much like his father I guess, whom I hate even more.
The real excitement of this book is the rapidly developing storyline that kicks off when we learn that an assassination attempt was made on their uncle, Guillermo Montemayor, and the suspect is their brother River Caldwell. None of them really believe that River would have really done it, and as they try to collect evidence of his innocence, attempts start to be made on their lives as well. They begin to question if their own uncle is trying to have them killed. At one point Sofia directly accuses her brother of sending men to kill them, and even though he denies it, I'm not sure she believes him at first. This scene stands out as really important to me, and it's a dynamic I wish River would learn from in the future, and unfortunately, I don't think he ever does. The Council are lying liars. As Sofia said herself, her brother lies, that's what he does. So does her son, but she always seems to be able to excuse that away.
Anyway, the family dynamics in this series is what makes it so good. The storyline is really good as well, but the characterizations, multiple points of view, and family interactions elevate it beyond your average genre storytelling, especially in these later books in the series.

BOOK:-ALPHA -BLOOD MOON,TEXAS SHIFTERS BOOK FOUR BY KAT KINNEY.
BOOK REVIEWER:-OKOKO AYEZU TAMARAPREYE.
SYNOPSIS A poetic style fiction on the rivalry between werewolves packs;vampires and shape shifters warfare in the city with blood moon pack and vampire nation attack on shapeshifters. The narrators in the story take turns in narration. It is also a book on leadership depicting the Alphas' as persons with mandate to serve and protect by "beginning" ( begin- ni-ng/begin-nee-ng) or Alpha- No(Fa in Ijaw)God- No gourd(palmwine gourd as in the absence of male or one who produces semen as of the male). In the story we see an attack of humans in major urban areas of the city by vampires and werewolves and a terrorism of shifters communities in a terrorism and counter terrorism and shifting of terrorism blame by terrorist, vampires and human protest groups. In all of the rivalry and terrorism, we see depicted media's nonchalance in distinguishing the culprit from the innocent. The story looks at human trafficking; slavery;the judicial system;magic;law ;mental health and defense of insanity;trafficking and domestic violence;life and death ;couples sharing babysitting duties and paternity roles;termination of citizenship;use of genetic data base information and technology in crime tracing and tracking telecommunications and privacy; amongst others. The story raises questions whether one could profer peace with vampires and instigators of violence as a tool for sustaining peace;whether calls and text received from unknown number is breach of privacy;when to use the defence of insanity whether when someone was ordinarily incapable of an act as spoken of Rivers the Soldier and the attempt to kill Guillermo and his abandoning his duty;whether a sprouting fire or fang is substantially justifiable for termination or just a moral imperative. We see Alek seek a solution to end the wars by use of drugs to curtail neuro manipulation of soldiers and shape shifters. From Brody in the story even as each character speak for themselves in this poetic style fiction ,we learn the werewolves packs and the council were teachers ,doctors, first responders,Barista's ,bakery owners, who wanted to live in peace. Death in the story is not spoken of literarily.
