Interior designer Faith Hudson knows better than anyone the value of a home. Growing up as an unwanted kid in foster care, she hangs onto every last treasure, always searching for the place where she belongs. Out of the blue, Gabe York, the musician ex-boyfriend who broke her heart, calls to say he wants a second chance... and asks her to renovate the Cornish beach house they used to share together. It's bittersweet for Faith, but she's nothing if not hopeful...
But it's not long before Gabe is up to his old tricks and Faith's optimism is tested to its limit. It's a good thing the renovation – and sexy kitchen-guy Henry – are keeping her busy... because one thing is becoming clear, turning a house into a home is less about the colour you paint the walls and more about the arms that hold you while you watch it dry...
Nancy grew up in Canada, but at the age of 12 her family moved to Italy. Catapulted into a world where her only contact with the English language was her old Judy Blume books, Nancy became an avid reader and a die-hard romantic.
Nancy stayed in Italy and, despite being surrounded by handsome Italian men, she married an even more handsome Brit. They now live in Sicily where she teaches English.
Like Erica, the heroine of The Husband Diet, Nancy is of Italian descent, but she swears that is where the similarities stop. And she’s absolutely never fantasized about murdering her husband.
Nancy has had a number of romance novels published, but The Husband Diet is her first Women’s Fiction book. She is a member of the RWA and a keen supporter of the Women’s Fiction Festival at Matera where she meets up once a year with writing friends from all over the globe.
A real good feel romance book. I was drawn in right from the beginning. The story is about Faith, her sister and children, who are her world. Her on off relationship with Gabe her boyfriend, who she finds out has cheated on her. Then she meets Henry and his son Orson and things start to look up. Lots of twists and turns which i love, keeps you interested in the story to the end. I really enjoyed my first novel by Nancy Barone and look forward to many more.
"Even if memories are flooding through me like the sea at high tide, I can only go with the flow, and accept that what is done is done. Put it all in the past and look forward instead."
Quite a sweet read! It felt a little predictable, but there were some curveballs in the plot that definitely surprised me.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Head of Zeus publishing for the ARC.
Starting Over at the Little Cornish Beach House is a lovely, feel-good romance. Faith Hudson and her twin sister, Hope, has spent their childhood in foster care, and all they wanted growing up was to belong. This story focuses on Faith as she goes through a very heart-breaking breakup with her long time boyfriend, rock star, Gabe York. But a few months after, he suddenly wants her back. Is this finally the happily-ever-after she wanted? A return-of-flame romance?
This book was exactly what I needed to take a rest from all my thriller and horror reads. The main character, Faith, is very funny and I can somehow relate to her internal monologues of wanting to belong and wanting to have get everything finally work out.
I definitely enjoyed how this book ended and how the conflicts were addressed. I most definitely appreciated the women solidarity in this one. Truly, reading this was a breath of fresh air. 💙

This was a sweet read but it didn't grab me as much as I thought it would. For me I couldn't see the point of the plot, I kept getting the feeling there wasn't really a plot to follow. There was also a lot of miscommunication between the characters. Looking at the reviews this book is great for some people, it just wasn't the book for me.
I was lucky enough to receive this arc from Net Galley. Unfortunately it was well and truly not my cup of tea. I found the main character to be annoying and mildly pathetic, there was a GIANT miscommunication trope, and the plot was non existent. I’m sure this book is for someone but it isn’t for me.
Starting Over at the Little Cornish Beach House by Nancy Barone is a love story with some dark overtones. Faith lives in the most beautiful beach house ever with the man she loves, rock star, Gabe. It had been the house her family had vacationed in before her father left, she realized. It had been redone and then Faith, an interior designer, decorated it. It was perfect. Just what they both wanted. They'd had a fabulous and sexy night and the next morning Gabe dropped a bombshell: he had found someone else. She immediately moved out into a small apartment near her sister. A few months later Gabe called. He was done with his new love. Could she go back and make the beach house look like it had before, and would she come back? Could she love him again? It was everything she wanted to hear. She took her crew to the beach house where they saw the biggest tragedy they had ever seen. There was animal fur carpet on the kitchen floor, for crying gout loud, and much of the rest of the house was RED. It was horrible. As for wanting him back, of course she did.
Poor Faith. She had trouble making up her mind. She loved with her whole heart and didn't see bad in someone she loved. She ended up paying for that. So much happened in this book that I can't begin to replay it. You will have to read it for yourself. There were so many lies and so many misunderstandings that it is mindboggling. Faith is just as her name implies. She has a twin who has two young kids who she loves with all her heart and spends plenty of time with. Her joiner has a young son, too, who he brings to work sometimes and she falls in love with him and with his father. Gabe, of course, lets her down when the girl friend turns up pregnant and he decides to do the "right" thing. It is a roller coaster ride, to be sure, but such fun, most of the time. Good read.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Starting Over at the Little Cornish Beach House by Head of Zeus, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #headofzeus #nancybarone #startingoveratthelittlecornishbeachhouse
Cons: - horribly oppressive of gender roles - sickly - highly unrealistic (her sister is a single mum to two children whilst being a multiple Michelin star chef but can take time off whenever, but has little money and uses her sister as a babysitter, Faith gets engaged after, what, like 4 dates?!) - incredibly irritating: Henry has said like 1000000 times he wants to be with faith, so why, after she says she doesnt, but changes her mind the day after, would be not want to be. And why would she doubt everything. It's just hugely grating and leads into the next point - Faith is a huge whinge-bag.
MY BOOK RATING SCALE I try to keep all of my book ratings on par with one another, and therefore have set the parameters below, bearing in mind that I do not DNF books:
1) Wished I could DNF, with no or very few redeeming features.
2) Poor, but had more redeeming features than the first category (perhaps a moral behind the story, or true life experience). Wouldn't recommend these books.
3) most books should fall into this category, as average books. Not outstanding in any particular way, but was an acceptable version of the genre and story. Often these books have potential to be much better, but the concept or characters are not developed enough.
4) these books are great versions of their genre, but not outstanding enough that I would recommend to people who aren't interested in the genre/reading in general. They are excellent examples of certain parts of the books, with few faults, although there were some parts that could have been strengthened.
5) excellent books. Should be very rare! Little to no room for improvement, and recommendable to anyone, regardless of their interest in reading or genre preference.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. I was able to find the audio version through my local library. I usually love books like this.. but this one was just a pass for me. I absolutely could not stand the MFC. She is whiny and completely unlikable. Also, the story is extremely unrealistic. Why on earth would she agree to start a family with someone who just broke up with her and was cheating on her? Also, it was not her house the BF could have done whatever he wanted with it and she does not get the final decision. She is so selfish. Everyone has to realize she has the problem with abandonment issues and so she gets a pass to be just whiny and selfish. The last straw with this book was when the MFC said to herself about snow white and how you realize the seven dwarves were Chauvinistic aholes. This is ridiculous. You can always tell the author's views when she puts crap in her books like this. Also, the language is really strong for this type of book. We as the audience don't want to read this type of stuff.
Cute, fast read. This story continues Faith and Gabe's storyline. In the last book, they broke up and Gabe started living with Faith's university nemesis. Faith has spent the last 6 months trying to get over Gabe, but then he calls her out of the blue and asks her to come back to the beach house and restore it to the way it was when they were together, and he assumes that also means they are back together.
Faith gives a half-hearted attempt at trying to remain friends with Gabe, but within hours of him showing up at the beach house they've fallen back into bed and she is dreaming of designing a nursery. Sigh. I don't have a lot of patience for the weak heroine trope so this grated on me. The rest of the book didn't hold a lot of my interest.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
Faith and twin sister Hope spent their childhood in foster care, moving from one home to another. All Faith wants as an adult is a family of her own. She thinks she has that with rock star fiance Gabe, but her world soon comes crashing down around her ears. Can she continue the renovations of their beach home with her team and local joiner Henry, and leave Gabe behind for good?
I'm afraid this book wasn't for me. I loved the scenery descriptions, and the child characters were adorable. However the adult characters were irritating, no one seemed to be able to talk to anyone else and I couldn't relate to any of them. I also found the timelines a bit patchy, things didn't always quite make sense to me, as if the author got a bit carried away with the story when writing!
Thank you NetGalley and Head of Zeus for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What is there to do when you wake up ridiculously early and cannot fall back asleep? Finish an adorably, sweet ARC is what there is to do.
Starting Over follows Faith, an Interior Designer, as she attempts to bring the beach house she shared with her rock star former boyfriend back to its previous glory. Faith is grappling with her past in foster care and lack of belonging as she works to move on from her disastrous relationship. In her quest to find home, family and love, Faith might just realize everything she has always wanted is right in front of her...
This cute and quick read by Nancy Barone takes place in Cornwall with interior designer Faith, her cheating ex and a potential new beau.
I loved Henry and Faith's relationship, especially as Henry was always there for her and somehow knew what she needed. Not too big of a fan of all the miscommunication that took place, and didn't really love how Faith handled the news she got about Henry. Otherwise, I loved the characters and the overall plot of the story.
Thank you the NetGalley and Head of Zeus publishing for this arc!!
I was given this book by NetGalley and Head of Zeus publishing written by Nancy Barone and will be published on May 12, 2022. I really enjoyed this sweet, lovely read. Faith is an interior designer who has an ex that wants her back but he’s a cheat and a liar but the she meets Henry who changes everything. This is a lovely read and it goes through all of emotions a romance brings you through. I definitely give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It used be the home where she and her twin sister were born , now it belong to her ex fiance and after 6 months apart he is asking her for a second chance and her to make the place as it used to be . She accept to redising the house and then she will decide about them . With her works Henry the joiner who is nothing like her ex , Which one will be her happy ever after ? I received this book from netgalley and the puclisher as an arc . Thank you . All thoughts and opinions are my own .
Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review. What a truly lovely book. Faith is a twin to her sister Hope. They have been together like ports in a storm all their lives. They are soulmates and sisters. Faith has been with her popstar boyfriend Gabe for three years and is desperate to start a family. He’s reticence. Will they survive or will she get stronger. This is a great book and I really enjoyed it.
Faith Hudson and her twin sister Hope grew up in foster care so what Faith wants most is a home and family of her own. Her rock star boyfriend dumped her and just as she was struggling to move on he is back and wants to start again, but can she trust him? I really enjoyed this book, but got a bit irritated by all the misunderstandings along the way. It was obvious to me what the ending would be but I think it was worth 4 stars and would recommend it for anyone who enjoys a romantic story.
Growing up in foster care, Faith is determined to find a place where she belongs. When her ex-boyfriend, musician Gabe York, calls to ask for a second chance she moves back into the home they used to share. However, it’s not long before Faith’s heart is broken again. Will she be able to move forward and find the family she longs for?
This was a cute easy read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Faith is trying to move on from a broken heart but she gets a second chance. Gabe, her ex asks if they can start again and wants her to renovate his beach house. Who wouldn't want to live in a house on the beach in Cornwall? Henry, the joiner and her team of designers move to Cornwall to renovate the house ruined by Gabe's new, but now ex love. I enjoyed this - an easy to read romcom but there were a few too many misunderstandings - just talk to each other!
Another new author for me this year ( #23 of 23 for 23 ) and one which I enjoyed.
Faith Hudson is an interior designer who knows better than anyone the true value of a home.
Faith along with her twin sister Hope, grew up in a succession of foster homes, often feeling unwanted and unloved, but always searching for the one place, where she truly felt she belonged.
Gabe York, is Faith's ex-boyfriend, he calls Faith suddenly out of the blue saying he wants a second chance, and he wants her to renovate the Cornish beach house they used to share together.
This house happens to have significantly more bitter sweet memories for Faith than those she has had with Gabe in the past, because it's also where she used to holiday when she was much younger, before her father ran out on the family, and everything went so horribly wrong.
But it isn't long before Gabe is up to his old tricks - yet again - he's met someone else.
But Faith has the renovations to keep her busy, and there is also Henry the rather handsome kitchen fitter, and it seems that there is more to Henry than his kitchen fitting talents, but obviously I'm not going to be the one to tell you what that is, you're going to have to read the book for that little nugget yourself.
A lovely book and I would certainly read more by this author.
I found this book so hard to read. The main character was completely idiotic. The dialogue was awkward, regularly repeating names at the start or end of each sentence, which is not how people talk. The story didn’t make sense, with the main character suggesting that the main love interest was hot and cold when in reality he came on stupidly strong from the beginning. I almost gave up on it a number of times but I hate leaving books unfinished. I just really think this one missed the mark.
*I received a copy of this book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for this opportunity*
In the newest installation of Nancy Barone's Cornish series, Faith is an interior designer in a tumultuous relationship with her chart-topping rockstar boyfriend. After being unceremoniously dumped, she finds herself suddenly tasked with bringing their shared beach home back into it's former glory with the help of a local joiner and her employees.
STARTING OVER AT THE LITTLE CORNISH BEACH HOUSE wasn't my favorite. The overall plot was lacking, the main driver a disastrous miscommunication trope that was pretty much brushed over at the end. I also felt like the characters were all flat-- none of them had more than one or two notes, which made the book difficult to enjoy for me.
SOATLCBH is a rom-com beach read. It will be a great pick for someone looking for a predictable, unrealistic romance that can be read quickly.
Faith returns to bring a house back to it's former glory. The house holds some painfull memories but hints at a brighter future. She pours her heart out bringing it back to its tasteful state.. There are relationships to work through, family relationships providing support and the beautiful Cornish views from a stunning house raising itself back to glory. A gorgeous read
I'm sorry this book is just bad. There's no nicer way to say it. The lead character is incredibly whiny, and Franky bordering on obnoxious. On top of the it relies heavily on the classic miscommunication troupe. Through most of the book I just had a strong desire to shake the main character. She's either a complete idiot or written as one. The book is so sacrine and just ick.
I liked it very much - characters were a bit jumbled in the telling - but sorted by the very romantic and beautiful ending Faith and Henry Faith and Hope - orphaned sisters who both turned out so great
I received an ARC of Starting Over at the Little Beach House, by Nancy Barone. This is a lovely story about Faith. I did care for Gabe at all, but Faith and Henry are lovely.
I loved this book, the characters are wonderful, well described and great people. I found myself shouting(in my head) no Fiona ! So many times, but an amazing end .
